i heard about a magical word named Torrent.
lets pray to the gods of internet that turbine learns this word too![]()
Is there any news of when we can expect to get past "A connection attempt failed"? http://images.lorforum.turbine.com/i...cons/icon9.png And is the RoI released today already?

I'd love to see you all on the forums for small private servers for other MMOs that require people to patch by messing around with their install files and essentially debugging it themselves in various ways instead of having it auto-update for them. Oh wait, I have, and it's worse.
Carry on
(and be patient, the whole point of patching today is so it's done all the sooner and people can actually get IN tomorrow. If the servers go live today, that's a bonus)

how can i checked, if i'm updated? left launcher alone for some hours, no unable to connect
I once worked for a company with a Very Large Web Presence, in which the continual service of that Very Large Web Presence was crucial - ESPECIALLY during times of high demand.
There came a time when we made changes designed to better adapt to such unexpected surges of web traffic. The changes were tested extensively and thoroughly, and everyone was satisfied that the changes were working properly, and that we were well-equipped to handle such traffic surges.
And then we had one of those massive surges of web traffic.
And everything went down. HARD.
You can try your best to prepare for the unexpected - but the fact is, it's UNEXPECTED, and you can never be certain that what worked perfectly in testing will function just as well when dealing with Reality.
...That having been said: if what someone else said is correct - that the launcher is trying to connect to patch.lotro.com which is currently out of service - is patching really happening at this time at all? Or am I just stuck in the queue, and that's why I'm getting the out of service message? I'm still a bit confused on this, even after having read the entire thread.
My suggestion would be to put a sticky at the top of the forum, titled, "CAN'T CONNECT? READ THIS FIRST", detailing the most up-to-date news on the situation and pointing people to this thread. That way, at the very least, the rest of us can have fun mocking the people who can't understand those five words.![]()
The problem is that the launcher has to check realtime against a server. Otherwise how will it know it has the correct patch. maybe they can program something to stop checkinf for patches for a time but its very dangerous if the the current patch has a bug and they have an update and if they programmed it to stop checking for some time
Took about 10 min start to finish on patch.

I'm pretty sure Turbine has a couple people employed simply for the purpose of PR and handling things like contests, and those people more than likely have little to no experience in computer engineering/networking or coding an MMO, which means having these people help probably will do more harm than anything else.
Let the engineers do their jobs and let the other people continue to do what they do best. If that means Turbine can get a couple contests in, then that's great. Everyone is doing their part, whether that's fixing the game, or getting more people to enjoy the game.

No issues, just limited resources. As Sapience clearly said, it's the users that already patched the game who block the resouces for unpatched clients. So if they keep attempting to log in again and again, we'll never be able to patch ever. They dont even get that the game servers are offline, still they attempt to log in again and again. If they would just let it be and leave all other users to patch, the game servers might be up earlier.
Even after doing to restarts still having the issues i just think that it might be better to just wait and see. i am however itching to get up to 56 with my rk since i have left my champ to collect dust.
So I can't even get a connection, much less get to "examining programs" or start patching... I've tried restarting the client and reseting my connection, is it just a matter of waiting?

It isn't like the employee in charge of the contest is the same one(s) who are working on the game, they have a few different employees in different departments. It's like being at a nice restaurant and having the valet drop everything to run in and help you prepare the food.

Normally patch days are just that -- the patch and system down time take up most of the day and, if you're lucky, the game opens up in the late afternoon and evening. It's almost always been the case.![]()
We'll get there eventually! Besides, we weren't officially going to get the update until tomorrow anyway, so if it opens today it's a bonus.

The answer is no. You would be downloading a Mirkwood client and then still need to patch to Rise of Isengard.
While we are aware some companies do this, and some outright block IP ranges, we do not. Our servers don't care what IP range you are coming from, the priority is the same.
My first MODEM was 300 baud and cost just over $500 in the early 80s. I was about 13. Started my own BBS when I was about 15 and have been working with communities and the online space in one form or another ever sense. So about 30 years of it.
The same reason why some in the US can't. Load. As noted by others in this thread there are EU players who have patched and US players who have patched. It's not region specific. Probably more European players are commenting than US players because it's 1PM in the US and most US players are still at work and not yet at home trying to patch.
