Stable Mounts Issue and Stuttering/Hitching issues

If you are still experiencing the Hitching/stuttering issues that were a result of the Update 6 client issues, or the related Stable mounts issue, please post here.

Let me be very, very clear. This is for those issues specifically introduced in Update 6. If you have a 'lag' issue that you have experienced since Moria, or ROI, or Mirkwood, plesae do not add that to this thread. We are attempting to isolate a specific issue. Posts not directly related to that issue will only slow the process, confuse the discussion, and delay any solution.

Consider this a pre-emptive thread as we've seen reports that may or may not be related to the issue at hand.

If you see some other issue, please use the /bug command in game and file a bug report. Do not post it here.

    Lag is not fixed ......

I came on after update and the stuttering and skill lag is the same as it was before i look for a thread to see if theres any comments and its been closed so i am opening a new thread. I did not have lag until update 6 i have tried reinstalling, i tried updating drivers and then ultimately formatted my harddrive. Nothing has worked and whatever fix was made on todays patch was not effective. I have filled out a bug report was told that that is not what im supposed to do and that they want a tech support request which has been sent back numerous times tell me its not filed correctly. I will give the same information I have given many times and hope you guys can fix this.

Well, I havent really had much lag pre-U6 and after U6 (and especially tonight) there's been very annoying lag spikes/stuttering with a duration of 2-5 seconds. It doesnt appear that often (apart from tonight), but it's there.

Re: Stable Mounts Issue and Stuttering/Hitching issues

My stable mounts for normal and swift travel stopped moving just after logging in after update 6.1. One was from Bree to Hengstacer Farms and the other Thorin's Hall to Michel Delving swift travel.

At both times the horses stopped moving after a few seconds of bad lag.

Just to clarify...for pre-U6 hitching/lag/stuttering/rubberbanding still use the Customer Service website ticket entry tool and chose Tech Support?

And for pot U6 hitching/lag/stuttering/rubberbanding use /bug in game?

My guess is some people can't always tell the difference, although it's reasonably clear to me which is which when/where it's happening. But I just want to understand what the proper channels of communication are.

To report a bug you should always use the /bug tool in game at the time you experience/encounter the issue.
Forum posts aren't very effective bug reports. Going back into the game and making a report long after the fact is also not an effective report as the tool includes information about your character status and location in the report. Making a report after the fact greatly diminishes it's value.

Let's not make this thread about the proper use of the tool please. There is a very good sticky on the subject already.

I had a swift travel stable mount from Hengester Farms to Bree stall out on me about 2 hours after the servers came back up. I had to relog to get it going again.

Freawaru, if you submitted a ticket in-game, then you've contacted our in-game GM staff. The GM staff are not members of our technical support team and cannot assist you with an error such as this.

In the post that you quoted, Mirthgar gave a link to our online support system, http://support.turbine.com. In order to get assistance and have our team look into your particular issue, you need to open a ticket with them through that website. When you're submitting your ticket, make sure to choose "Tech Support" from the list of available support teams.

So, to answer your question, no, do not submit a bug report on this. Submit a ticket to technical support. I hope that clarifies things some. :3

Re: Stable Mounts Issue and Stuttering/Hitching issues

I have had major probs with Stable master travel, both swift and whatever the other is called. In fact, I don't believe any of my travels have succeeded since U6. I had one fail twice on the way from Pynti-Peldot to Zigilgund, once right at the gates of Pynti-Peldot and once about 200yds away from Zigilgund, as well as several others across Middle Earth. All of my insta travels work, but my horse never actually rides up to the stable master, it just freezes up about twenty feet away from him, facing backwards or sideways or something. I am hoping this gets fixed before I hop into Moria, since I don't want to be stuck hiking through there instead of using a guided goat, as I have heard it is notorious for getting newbies in the area lost. I appreciate you guys making an effort to look into and fix this though. LOTRO ROCKS!

Re: Stable Mounts Issue and Stuttering/Hitching issues

I can confirm that the issue still exists, currently in ToO Fire Frost wing, T2 with 12 ppl from all over the EU and we all lag for 2-3 seconds at the same time.

This has happened for all our kin Since Update 6, as well as any FS or Raid that i have joined in the prevailing time since U6.

Re: Stable Mounts Issue and Stuttering/Hitching issues

I have had this problem since the update, from various different stables (Tinnundir, Thorins, Esteldin, others I can't recall).

Either the mount just stops 50yds from setting off (logging off and on again resolves it), or doesn't quite get you to the destination and just drops you 'nearby', like a lazy taxi driver. When it doesn't do this, it is usually quite laggy.

Forgot to mention, this is mainly with swift travel mounts.

Swift travel MD > Bree landed me without a mount at the point you appear in Bree west of the gate. Twice.

Otoh Foundry run I didn't notice any of the lag spikes we've seen quite a bit of.

No change, still locking up for multiple seconds multiple times an hour in the Ettenmoors. Beyond frustrating at this point, and borderline unplayable for a class that needs upwards of 5 flawless button presses to execute just 1 skill. Lag spike = useless Warden.

Still hitching. It's really noticeable when turning using the keyboard but just normal travel throughout Stangard it also happens. Also seeing a delay when mounting/dismounting.

Still having a stable mount problem - tried to get from West Bree to Suri Kyla by swift, and the horse stopped dead just outside the Bree gates.

The hitching seems worse - at first I thought it was just Bree was a bit more crowded because of the anniversary festival, but I nearly fell into the sea in Suri Kyla going across a bridge on my own horse - even out in Kuru Leiri, where nobody is - the hitching was bad, both on foot and on horseback.

Great patch - nothing really changed

Took a swift travel from galtrev to bree, when my horse decided to stop after entering the gate. That's just one example.

Waiting seconds executing one skill, after pressing the button.

So when is the next (maybe working??) patch coming?

Re: Stable Mounts Issue and Stuttering/Hitching issues

I have not had the Stable Mounts problem since the MOST recent tiny-patch (i forget the proper name).

However, since that recent patch, I have begun to experience strange lag that would be appropriately labeled "stuttering/hitching". I had assumed they were personal lag issues, like perhaps Acrobat tried to download an update and it was hogging my connection or something.
However, after reading some of these, I thought I'd post and let you decide. These aren't all the times it happened, they're just the ones I can be clear about instead of "I had some rubberbanding".

    Specific examples:
--yesterday I was running around picking up slop in Isengard dungeons - I picked up one slop, ran to the next, and was told I was already interacting with it... was confused for a sec, and then poof! I was back by the kitchen master guy who bestows the quest.

--two days ago, I was in a group attempting the beginner Stangard quests (rescuing sawmill dwarves). As we ran to the quest location, I seemed to hit an invisible "wall" and couldn't run any farther forward; I could run backward a few steps, but could not pass this imaginary line; at the same time, I saw three of my companions' mounts seemed to be running in place a couple meters behind me. Realizing it was a lag issue, I spoke in voice chat instead of trying to type in fellowship text chat - however, at the same time I was speaking, I saw a couple messages come through from others typing in /f although I was still stuck (and saw them as stuck). The fellows confirmed that they were not stuck at their end.

--Later in the same group, I encountered some stuttering during combat - would hit skills and get the "marching yellow ants" or "pending skill" animation, but the skills would not engage. (Clarify in case anyone was going to ask: This was not a stun/silence/timing/gameplay/PEBKAC issue. It was clearly lag.) It happened once for about 20 seconds, worked for 10-15 seconds, and then got stuck for another 20-30 seconds just before/as we completed combat.

Re: Stable Mounts Issue and Stuttering/Hitching issues

Just stopped on a stable horse right before quick travel (TH->Bree).
I can't judge if the situation is better or the same - I largely skipped most problematic times, but the bug is definitely still here.
    I'm on Brandywine, btw.

Re: Stable Mounts Issue and Stuttering/Hitching issues

Sorry to report this Sapience, but the patch did nothing to fix the lag issues (not the normal lag), the stable ride issues, nor the excessively long loading times. I had none of these issues before U6.

I tried various stable rides all over the map today while doing the festival quests. Out of approximately 14 to 16 tries, only three actually finished the trip. The ride from Combe to Bree was particularly strange... just after I got past Straddle and into Bree, the horse hitched and stuttered a few times, then a LOADING screen popped up! I returned to the same place, frozen, and had to dismount, but the music had changed from Bree music to Shire music. As soon as I moved, it switched to Bree music again.

All of the weird lag is still there too... 5 to 10 seconds for ANY panel to open - vault, vendors, stable, quest-givers, all of them - and the backward AND forward rubberbanding is still there as is the freezes for no apparent reason. I can understand it in places like the festival areas where there were dozens of characters and fireworks being set off all packed into a small area, but running through relatively deserted areas and suddenly freezing for 5 to 10 seconds just makes no sense at all.

As for the loading times, they are simply horrendous. From the very beginning, right after the launcher starts the connection, I have a black screen for about 1 to 2 minutes. Then it flows through to character select rather normally. From character select, it takes a painfully long 3 to 7 minutes to actually get into the game, EVERY TIME. Once in game, every new load, whether going through a door or using a map or Hunter skill, takes up to a minute and once through, it may be another 30 seconds to a minute before I can actually move.

This is TOTALLY unacceptable! I never had any of this pre-U6. I was really looking forward to the Anniversary event thinking this was fixed. I even took the precaution of turning everything in the options down to the lowest settings in anticipation of the crowds. Instead, with the added throngs in some areas resulting in normal lag on top of these issues, some areas are completely unplayable while nearly everywhere else is just plain frustrating.

The problem is, I'm having a difficult time distinguishing between normal lag issues and these other issues since I'm getting both. And if I tried to file a bug report every time I had an issue, I'd be sitting here doing nothing but that. It's nearly continuous. If I get 1 solid, unbroken minute of normal movement and response times out of every 15 minutes, I'm feeling lucky. It's that bad.

I also see no difference in game play with the latest update - I still get long loading times esp. at login on my main, skills delayed or not going off at all, freezing, hitching, and "lotroclient stopped working" messages on exit.

Re: Stable Mounts Issue and Stuttering/Hitching issues

I don't know if my 'lag'/'hitching' issue is the same that others have been reporting but I had tracked it down to be related to all of the writes the game did to the "The Lord of the Rings Online\browser\TWebBrowser\his tory.dat" file.

After today's patch I was also disappointed that my issue hadn't gotten better. I was preparing to /bug it with details and in the process I moved the file to another location so I could determine now fast the file grew (it was current 6.5MB or so). I had to restart lotro as the file was locked. I found that after moving the file (I think deleting it would work too), my lag/hitching was significantly improved.

Also, the file is now only 44KB. I had deleted the file a couple of weeks ago when I got suspicious about it, and it had grown back to the 6.5MB size in one play session. Now, after a decent session, it is only 44KB.

So, if you are still having issues, it is worth a try - delete "The Lord of the Rings Online\browser\TWebBrowser\his tory.dat" - no guarantee but it really helped me.
