Words of Courage - worth it?

I have a Captain, level 100 running red line. I usually run in a 3-man fellowship or solo. In the fellowship, I provide a lot of the DPS and healing. I have been wondering about dropping Words of Courage since it is both awkward for me and does not provide that much healing. I usually rely on combat skills for healing with rallying cry to keep everyone healthy. I find that trying to target a companion while in battle is too slow and breaks the damage dealing healing flow. Any suggestions?

I used WoC quite a bit pre-imbuement when I could pop it on a player and not have to reapply it to them for 30 seconds. Now it's a challenge for me to have it going on all of my fellows even if it's the only key I'm hitting, because it expires so quickly.

I don't have current numbers on it, but it's still something I use, regardless of the line I'm running. It's no Bolster Courage but a heal is a heal, and when the mini's dead I'll take what I can get.

I'm not sure you are aware of this option, so I'll mention it.

If your three person group has someone taking aggro off you (either by taunts or out DPSing you), the best way to use Words of Courage while DPSing is to push the Words of Courage heal through the enemy your group has chosen to kill. That way you aren't wasting time constantly switching targets between the enemy and your fellows. For this to work, you have to have a Combat Option turned on. It's called something like "Allow Skills to Affect Your Target's Target". You execute Words of Courage while targeting the enemy, and your heal applies to whomever has the aggro of that enemy. Of course this won't work with Words of Courage if you have aggro, since WoC doesn't affect you.

You probably already know this but just in case you don't, you can always target fellowship members very quickly using the keys F2, F3, etc. Which person is which depends on the order they show up in your fellowship/raid panel, but if I'm going to be healing I will just press them beforehand to see who is whom, that helps me get it into memory better than trying to count.

I did not know about the F2 and F3. That could be helpful in other cases as well. I did remember the targeting option, though I had forgotten about it. I thank you both for that information. I still wonder if the skill is worth the slot in my legacies since the heal is so minor and the ability of Captains to heal the party through doing damage is so synergistic. Usually, the group healing works quite well to keep my companion healed. My companions are a Guardian and a Loremaster. The Loremaster usually spot heals when needed. I guess a better question I should have asked is whether the legacy is worth it or not.

I have the legacy slotted because my captain switches between the 3 roles quite a lot, I can't be bothered to make multiple LI sets, and because my kin has more than enough pure DPS lines. It's useful for me in healing (though less useful than it used to be), and can take some stress off of the mini by healing players if he's busy focusing on keeping the tank or some squishies up.

I'd suggest picking your legacies by going to a list like this and start by circling ones you know you want, and crossing out ones you know you don't. Helps me to narrow down what to take.
