What do Creeps do with the Legendary Runes acquired? Sell them off or will they be needed later on? My guess is to sell them off - but that is only a guess. I thought I'd better ask here first.

Yes they can be sold to vendors since they have no use for creeps.
You gotta chill to take it to the next level.
