Was just wondering what the best race was for a Lore-master. Never really thought about it but plan on making one after getting sick of a burglar.

It really doesn't matter.
Vocation and Race matter more. For example, a Scholar greatly benefits from being an Elf, because they get a port back to Rivendell where you have the Superiour Study and the Scholar's Guild.
I picked the race of man, mainly for the extra 3k heal that you get at level 35. I don’t use it too often because of the hour cool down, but it is wonderful backup to have if both your LM heal and pots are on cool down. It has saved me quite a few times. At lower levels the +20 will trait is pretty nice for the power boost too.

I play a Human Lore-master, and the man-heal is definitely a plus. Along with Wisdom of the Council, that makes two "oh ****" buttons for you to draw on in times of crisis. It's saved me a couple times in difficult fights.
However, I've heard people praising Eldar's Grace, the elf racial which gives a 75% parry chance for 10 seconds. Thinking back on the number of times I've died because I'm being swarmed and can't get any inductions off, I can definitely see how this could be handy.

The Elven stealth skill is also far from useless. It has a mega-cooldown that makes it unusable as a regular fighting instrument the way burglars use it. But it does enable you to sneak into some particular area for a quest or other every now and then. Again, this is particularly good for Scholars.
The human's upper-cut is useful when fighting mobs that can disarm you. You just punch them on the chin. Very satisfying.
Elf: stealth, port to rivendell, Eldar's Grace (parry skill)
Man: in-combat heal (comes in handy as a backup if WotC is down), port to Bree
In retrospect, I'd probably rather have the Elf's stealth & Eldar's Grace since WotC is a pretty short cooldown -- I can count on one hand how many times I've actually saved myself with the Man racial heal (it HAS happened, just not a lot, and surely not more than I could have used stealth).

Put me in the Elf group.I have been playing my Elf LM Scholar for almost 2 years now, and I use my stealth quite a bit. I would probably have used the manheal if I had it, but only in dire straights, where as I use the stealth as part of my normal play planning, especially if I am running with my lynx.
Strictly speaking stat-wise. I play a human LM and I currently have more Will than I know what to do with. I've been window shopping to replace gear for a little more Fate and a lot more Vitality. (already have my virtues set up for Fate and Vitality)

This is a pretty good reason to pick Elf as a race (and especially if your LM is also a scholar, a very common combo apparently (was mine too), as the +20fate trait is handy, seeing how much will LMs get. Probably offset by the 2% sword bonus (men) vs 1% sword bonus traits, though.
So yeah: either works.
I stumbled across this thread and it has been over 10 years since the last the last post so why not revive it a little.
As far as for Human versus Elf the choice is so trivial when it comes down to which Stat is better that I choose an Elf female because I like the hairstyle #19. That is little the race matters in the choose for this class.
Why as a male do I play a female toon? The male is an upper body powerhouse that is capable of lifting a horse over his head while punching to death a 10' troll with no way of adjusting it so that you do not fell like your are going to rip the door frame off with your shoulders each time you want to go into the Prancing Pony for an ale.
Reviving such old posts is actually considered bad etiquette on every online forum and a common reason why forums archive old posts. So please do not do that again, it confuses readers who will have a hard time following the conversation.
Nowadays there is actually a 100% clear preference for an LM race when it comes to grouping/raiding, and that is Man. Purely because of Duty-Bound Morale buff for groups. Fate is irrelevant, the weapon damage bonus is irrelevant, but 5% more morale is huge if it can mean surviving a 250k damage hit or not like at Shakalush Boss 2, that would otherwise be a one-hit.
