    Well let's see. Durin VI was killed by the balrog, and I'm pretty sure he didn't have it. I don't remember anything about Durin V or IV. Durin III did something with Moria IIRC. I don't remember anything about Durin II, and Durin I was too early for the rings.

    I'm gonna have to guess Durin III, by the process of elimination.

    Ummmm, let's see.... this one might be a little tricksy.

    Who was King Bladorthin, what is he (race-wise), and what's his story?

    (His name might not be familiar to you... he appears in the Hobbit... here's the quote:
    "From that the talk turned to the great hoard itself and to the things that Thorin and Balin remembered. They wondered if they were still lying there unharmed in the hall below: the spears that were made for the armies of the great King Bladorthin (long since dead), each had a thrice-forged head and their shafts were inlaid with cunning gold, but they were never delivered or paid for."

    if i am right my question is:
    What did the dragon glaurung name Turin after the sack of nargothrond and what does the name mean?

    not sure if it easy or hard, i just read that part of the book of lost tales today so it is fresh in my mind.

    Actually you're wrong... probably. The real answer is ABSOLUTELY nothing is known about him. He is never mentioned in ANY of Tolkien's works besides that one line in the hobbit. His name is actually one of Gandalf's early names that Tolkien was considering for him. It's Elvish for something.

    I'll let someone else answer your question.

    No answers for several days so I'll give it a shot... Do you mean "Mormakil", an early form of "Mormegil", or Black-sword?

    This was a tough one and in all fairness I had to look it up. I do not believe Glaurung ever actually came up with a new name for Turin but he does refer to Turin as Mormakil after the fall of Nargothrond in the "Lost Tales" version. I wouldn't be suprised if I am wrong considering that devising a new, subtly mocking name for a well known hero strikes me as something Glaurung would have done in this situation. I might have just missed it in the reading...

    Assuming that is what you had in mind, here is a new question:

    The Doors of Durin stand (or stood) at the west gate of Moria. Who constructed the doors and who inscribed the writing upon them?

    Re: Middle-Earth Quiz!!

    The Door itself was made by the Dwarf Narvi, the inscriptions on the door were made by Celebrimbor.

    If I'm right someone else post a question, I can't think of any.

    Here is one many folks will know off the top of their head:
    The inscription on Balin's tomb reads "Balin son of Fundin, Lord of Moria". What minstril/loremaster of the first age devised the runes used in the inscription?
    Daeron.

    What are the runes collectively called, both singular and plural forms? I know, not fair....

    EDIT: hey, wow, I ninja-posted!

    Cirith is plural isn't it? If so, singular would be...Cire? Total guess.

    The plural is cirth; therefore, I think the singular needs to be certh. Is that correct?

    Singular = Cirth

    Plural = Certhas

    That's just my guess

    I can't seem to recall any instances other than the Orc captain in Moria and Saruman's dagger, so I would guess twice, although there may be more instances of it protecting him that I can not recall.
