How to test cosmetic pet features?

How can we test the cosmetic pet features without having at least one pet? The Huorns are still very rare.

You can not. I do not have a Huorn. I wonder if the Huorn use the same functionality as the Lore Master cosmetic pets. If so you just need to get one of the many Lore Master cosmetic pets by playing the game.

Of course, some customers have Huorns in live to mess with.
Unless stated otherwise, all content in this post is My Personal Opinion.

You bring up a very good point.

The admins will be dropping the Cosmetic Pets items in the Crafting Hall of the Eyes & Guard Tavern whenever we are online to help out with this. Feel free to stop by and grab a few pets.

In the meantime, I must report that my LM, who has
both an Onyx Lynx combat pet and a pussycat noncombat
pet, cannot bring them both in at the same time. I just
tested it; whichever pet I bring in first, when I try to
bring in the other, I get an error message.

Is there some box to click, or other mechanism somewhere,
that enables a character to bring in more than one kind of
    pet?

(Note: I don't have any kind of Huorn yet, since my BR
character hasn't done however many quests are required
to get one. Note also that I don't particularly crave to
have one, but I would like to have my two kitties at my
    side. )

    To quote the patchnotes:
Lore-master non-combat pets will not be affected with the current design. If there is feedback against this being the case let us know, Lore-masters!
I believe you are out of luck so far, you cannot call both loremaster pets at once (so far). I guess you just answered the feedback that you would like to change that =)

The Lore-master Non Combat pets exist on the same system channel as the Lore-master Combat pets, which is why only one of those can be out at a single time.

The new Cosmetic Pet system for all classes exists separately from those used exclusively by Lore-masters, which is why a new Cosmetic Pet and a Lore-master Pet (combat or non combat) can be out at the same time.

I will pass on the the developers that you would like to see the Lore-master pet types able to be simultaneously out, however!

This is a gross mis-understanding on your part and a major design flaw by the Devs.

The acquisition of any of the new cosmetic pets is 100% non-deterministic!

They are not RARE as Sapience stated in his chat on Sirannon (Hobbits to Isengard)
Q6. Why was the cosmetic pet based on RNG drop
That’s just the mechanic for this particular pet. It was largely used as a test to see how players receive the whole concept of cosmetic pets, and it seems they’ve been received very very well. There will be more ways to acquire different pets, but they are meant to be a reward for hard work. Everyone wants the rare thing because it’s rare, but not everyone can have the rare thing or it wouldn’t be rare anymore.
They are RANDOM -- which is VERY different.

Hm. So a non-LM cosmetic pet will be (statistically speaking)
something different every time you summon it?

    C'est la guerre.

I still have Sic 'Em, which has saved my bacon more times
than I care to count, mostly in the crafting instances. They're
random too, but they fight like nobody's business.

No each cosmetic pet is a specific skin. What they are talking about is way we currently obtain these Huorn pets are completely random as to if they will drop from the Seed quest reward box.

The current method of gaining Cosmetic Huorns is not the only way they will be obtained. There will be a number of ways to gain a variety of pets in the future, with different pets having different rarities. This is just the beginning.

As for the Huorns specifically, I will pass your feedback on to the developers.
