Returning spider - LF tips vs. guards

    Pre-amble:

R10 spider, have been playing intermittently last couple updates, but mostly in an RvR scenario focusing on debuffs / cc. Now that freeps are pretty strong again, less and less creeps are playing and it seems like a good time to solo roam as freeps aren't grouped as often. Spiders are still very strong against most classes; high rank champs and wardens are tough (as they should be), but doable if everything goes right. I am, however, having some difficulty vs. well geared, high rank red guards who are willing to blow everything....ignore the pain (+3 debuffs removed from pts in yellow line) and warrior's heart. Thrill of danger I know to watch for and I pick my opportunities to fight away from friendly npcs (read: free heals).

Ideally it seems like I would want to save my burrow for when the guard pops warrior's heart, but I'm finding I have to blow burrow a little quicker than I would like because I can't burn down the guard fast enough if they keep ignore the pain on CD.

I'd love to hear from some more experienced spiders how they find success fighting good guardians, or from guards with tips on how to fight the class well. Obviously some guards can't be soloed, but I welcome the challenge.

    FYI:

This is just my stock standard roaming build...I don't trait vs. specific classes.

    Class Traits:
    Scytode brood
    +10% morale
    Enhanced Piercing attack
    Enhanced Tainted kiss
    Enhanced Paralytic venom
    Enhanced Trapdoor Sanctuary
    Armor boost

    Racial traits:
    Eight legged Foe
    Swallower of Light
    Born of Shadow
    Shelob's Gift
    Enemies of the first children

    Corruptions:
    3 Crit rating
    Health for Power R2
    Health for Damage R2
    Damage for Power R2
    3 Crit protection
    3 Mastery Boost

I'm sure many folks would point to my build being pretty dps oriented and most likely pretty squishy...that may well be a legitimate criticism. I use web the earth to maintain distance and shadow's bite to keep from getting smacked around too bad when its on cooldown.

    Thanks in advance!

Power drain it and survive until the power is gone.
All its skills are now useless.

This would be a good tactic, except any half decent guard will have killed you by then.
Most spiders i've seen go for the following tactic:
    1. Burrow
    2. shout in OOC
    3. Profit

Hence the " and survive" bit.

    The other tactic works too

what makes it even harder on guards, is that a number of them have 60k+ morale and still are very very viable.

Most spiders are complete and utter trash. I'm curious to see what other spiders are doing to kill guards 1v1 without resorting to calling out solos. I'd rather not sit in my burrow impotent, thank you very much.

A decent guard is never going to lose a 1v1 to any creep, mathematically its impossible. You seem like you know what you're doing though already so if a guard is actually bad enough to be killable you should win, only thing that would work better is switching out crit D or mastery for physmit

Red guards running around "solo" don't count as solo at all, they're not looking for real pvp just free points and kbs, they deserve to be zerged

hi mate, i think i see myself in the exact same struggle. i'm a r8 weaver on laurelin, and i have (obviously) tried a number of times to kill a guard (him and me solo). as no one gives a serious answer, i try to add some.

i'm pretty well geared towards absorbing damage, and in my 1vs1 vs guards i first of all try to keep distance. with our web the earth skill on a 25cd is awesome to kite guards. as someone else already suggested is to try to power drain them, until they need to be careful what skills they use. so for example, i'm down to 30k (got 90) and his max morale is 40k, with 6 or 7k power. i got him to 2,5k power. this is the example of one of my last fights against guard. i try to powerdrain him into the ground, doesnt work. so i keep kiting him, with some hope he might do something stupid. of course when i'm down to my last 10k i try to burrow, this works and he waits. then his outofcombat power just pops up and tears boil up from my burrow. when i unburrow i web the earth, do some stuns and run away.

havent managed to kill one totally solo. just wanted to share my experience hehe. very curious how other broodling brothers take on guards!

Before you burrow, use Catch Prey, (By being R8 I assume you have it) he will stay in combat and he won't have his out of combat morale and power regen. The only way the player would overcome this during the burrow is to run out of distance to remove Catch Prey, which can also give you some kiting space, or just run away, since you won't have a chance against a good Guardian anyway. Luckily for you most players are pretty bad so they won't notice they have Catch Prey active.

nice one! never thought about that. 2 days ago i managed to kill a guard actually, with another warg. he did 80% of the tanking and like 60% of the damage. i did the rest. it was a fight for atleast 30 minutes, i died once and i burrowed atleast 4 times (cd is 3min). it was a chore! i now avoid guards and some wardens. it really is quite depressing that i nééd to avoid them (solo atleast i mean) because it will be just a one side fight. i will be dead in atleast 1 minute unless i burrow, which is not worth it anymore, not even to try to escape. i dont like to escape, unless i think its appropiate. also the healing mini's and fire rk's with uncredible heals are a true chore . I hope it will not become worse then it already is.

I mean, i have as a weaver 1 heal, and that is if i kill someone (i know you can use the trick of killing some npc's in a fight, which gives you the response you need, but there is also a 30cd. and it heals right now for around 11k, which is 1 crit). I'm fine with that 1 heal, i truly am, it challenges me to do the best i can, but if a warden or guard does a full max heal or for 80% or something for the fóurth time, i ragequit in a silent way, in my self. Not really whining, but more explaining what the effect of these heals are.

Anyway, thx for your tip actually found me inspired to search a little bit more about tips and tricks for weaver, still learning every day!
