Had download some stuff but then got stuck too but now it's finally patching.

Patched and ready to roll!

I highly doubt ours are, tho. I've been seeing more and more connection loss issues in the past couple of weeks, with the loss-rate rising steadily with each day we've been getting closer to Isengard. Last night, the 21st was packed, with Enedwaith completely raided for repeatable quests and I had a nice 3-5% constant loss. Being LM on Gortheron was fun then!

The patch servers were taken off line. Please remember we are updating the servers and there will be periods of up time and down time until we announce that all worlds are open and available for play. We will try to keep you updated on when and if the patch servers are available, but please keep the following in mind:
- Leaving your launcher open while the patch servers are closed may cause your client to hang and not patch until it is restarted.
- Third party sites do not accurately reflect the status of all our internal services and would not be the most reliable source of information on what is or is not open. We recommend you follow us on twitter @lotro or visit our facebook page http://www.facebook.com/lotro or visit this thread frequently for updated and accurate information. High load and heavy traffic may make Twitter and facebook the best options for server status updates today.
Also, as some predicted, the forum issues are related to gold spammers trying to spam the forums and not entirely due to the load of players checking status.
I was lucky enough to be patched just before the patcher went down for the first time.
The thing people need to realise there are going to be huge amounts of people trying to log in to get patched at the same time. I highly doubt that Turbine are going to have a 1,000,000Gbit internet connection connected to super PC's that run on nuclear power because they are so powerful.
My point is appreciate the fact that you are not the only ones trying to get their clients patched and it is going to put immense strain on the hardware.

Still can't connect on both computers.
No, clearly not, that's the problem.
Additional server capacity can be rented as easily as renting a car, if the company is willing to pay. Regular server overloads and connection problems just mean that a company tried to do things on the cheap and/or failed to anticipate demand.
(That may or may not be the explanation for in-game loss though, which is more likely to be down to ISP/internet issues outside Turbine's control).

This predictable raging makes me sad. The release date has been fixed for months. Its tomorrow, so if it is up today, its early. Why would we need monstrous resources spent on server capacity etc for a ridiculously short term problem. I get we are all excited to have something new, but raging (your words) about the update not being here yet, when it is still 24 hours earlier than everyone expected it (until last week)....
Counter of Stairs
My complaint has nothing to do with not getting it a day early. If it was released tomorrow the problem would be exactly the same - unable to connect, servers falling over, queues. The release of an update is a major event in the life of a game and entirely justifies expenditure on additional server capacity.

Cant wait until I get home from work and start the download process, hopefully things will have calmed down by then.
@Grim - don't you have anyone at home to just launch the client?
it'll be up and ready by the time you get back home!
I can't say I know how easy it is to rent servers, hook them up to the rest of the system and install the software, so I can't really comment on that.
I think there's a slight difference in attitude here, tho. For Turbine, the extra waiting players have to do while patching can help them spread the load on their game servers. So, save on patch servers, save on game servers! Well, maybe, just speculating.
The cause of the in-game loss I have tried to pin down through Pingplotter, showing that the majority of my loss comes from Turbine's IP-addresses. My point of mentioning this is that it might be an argument in your case. Maybe the servers are indeed too weak to deal with the strains they experience on any day but the most calm ones.

better than me...i started to patch and then the client ended up hanging up on me and i had to ctrlaltdel all over again and now im stuck back at trying to connect
People, why are you so fussed and upset?
We have all day to patch, and in the evening when servers do come on(?), you wont be ready for a gaming marathon anyhow. If you are, you clearly need a life.
Besides, the official date still is 27th, don't get your hopes up, be grateful they started fiddling with the update process a day early.
Go play some other game in the meanwhile, Middle Erath is still gonna be here when you return.

What is the deal with gold spammers? I haven't seen a single thread, so do you mean that they are trying to send massive amount of PMs? (not prehistoric monster syndrome) I hope massive banning takes place at same time
Many philosophical problems are caused by such things as the simple inability to shut up.
Correct, you haven't. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. We're blocking and banning just as quickly as we have been in game. New releases always draw them out. It will calm down as the launch window passes. Until then, we'll continue to battle away.
In the mean time we've shifted some resources to improve forum performance.

Dont forget there are a lot more people that will be patching now that we EU players are here, so I hope they have taken that into account
