Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival of 2010
"Disclaimer: No shrews were harmed in the making of this game. Stomp-A-Shrew is a challenge loved equally by humanoid and shrewish participants alike. All shrews are present of their own accord, and are free to leave the game at any time."

That's nice for the shrews, but how many goldfish died before she got the puppy?
Very much looking forward to this event. Happy anniversary, Budgeford! :)

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival of 2010
Thanks for the diary, very nice.
I really like that you are slowly but surely adding and improving the festivals every year, it's very much appreciated. Stomp a shrew sounds like a lot of crazy fun and the addition of The Ale Association opens up a whole new set of future boozy content :D

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival of 2010
Question: Will we ever see the new regions get something out of a festival? I know we need reasons to go back to EL, MD, BREE, TH, but Moria would be a nice place to do stuff especially for this new AA. Maybe this summer we will have a game in... wait for it... wait for it... Enedwaith;) lol

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival of 2010
I love these festivals, I thought the hedge maze last year was brilliant, and although I was too busy to try the hammer smashing thing (every time I logged in somebody in the kin wanted help with Mirkwood content :/), I will definitely be trying it next year.
I am quite excited to get this Moria keg that I keep hearing about too, since I have the other two and use them regularly.

Oh I hope so. Maybe that could be apart of this dwarf's plans. He'll go where those Inn League hobbits wouldn't dare to venture.

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival of 2010
Thank you for yet another Festival Game and a brilliant Dev Diary.
However, now you have me cursing because I have to wait 3 more days before the Spring Festival begins! GRRRRRRRR
;)

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival of 2010
Thanks for the diary, I really can't wait to see the festival :)

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival of 2010
One thing baffled me while reading this dev diary, about the shrew game. In instances, all mobs see the players. Is this shrew game going to be lots of players at the same time? If not, then making it an instance from the start would have saved a lot of shrew level adjustments. ;)
Also, I am not happy about the mean spirit added with the Ale Association. And I will have to see the nastiness going on every time I enter the dwarven area to go up the steps to craft or do an ore consignment. Why don't characters who help this dwarf LOSE rep with the Inn League? You lose elven rep when you poach animals for that dwarf in Lothlorien. It should work the same here. There should be consequences for choosing evil actions.

but alas, the code delves too greedily and too deep.
LOL! Nice diary.

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival of 2010
Baruk Khazad! Something that we dwarves can call our own! (And please don't call it AA. Just because we drink doesn't make us Alcoholics and we sure aren't anonymous.

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival of 2010
Woot woot, I cant wait. I am more excited about the Ale Association. Beer!!!
-
Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival of 2010
I'm so looking forward to the shrews! If they are half as fun as the beer fight, that's where I will be spending a lot of time.
Also looking forward to the Ale Association. Thought about losing Inn League Rep for assisting them also when I read that - it would make sense in a way. As long as I get my beer though, I'm good with either group.
I'm wildly interested in *gasp* new cosmetic items! YAY! :D Although, I will mourn the 999 blueberry tart recipes I got last year... heheheh (I hear they fixed the drop table on those this year.)

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival of 2010
Sounds great! :) Now.. anyone have any pictures of the new/old spring fest stuff? I missed last years festival so this will be my first.

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival of 2010
Very well written diary! Just enough about the mechanics to be interesting and just enough about the content to be enticing.
-
Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival of 2010
But I am kindred with the Inn League, and earned it the old fashioned way without hitting anyone over the head. How am I expected to defend against the insidious Ale Association?
(more importantly, where are my inn league outfits, and my inn league donkey :-)

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival of 2010
Thank you Turbine for playing into my hands! In my latest series of mylotro blog entries chronicling the misadventures of my Warden, I insinuated that the Inn League was actually a sinister organization bent on power. These developments will give me a lot of fodder for further entries! Muahahahaha!

How fun! I can't wait! I enjoyed reading the dev diary and checking out the replies here- thanks for posting the pictures!

Re: Dev Diary Feedback: Spring Festival of 2010
would have much preferred something be done with the inn league instead of adding another drinking club.
2 inn league outfits exist that have never been released to live...why?
no reason to go beyond friend rep...why?
i also find the idea of sabotage against the inn league as distasteful.
i for one will be boycotting the AA.
if you could find the time/resources to add the AA...then you had plenty of opportunity to advance the IL.
:(

As a dwarf who bought a house in the Shire because it seemed like a place where pies and beer were never more than a stone's throw away, I agree with this sentiment. I'd much rather spend the festival enjoying MY beer rather than ruining someone ELSE's. Why would the heroes of the Free Peoples sign up with this idiot as opposed to running him out of town? Did you run with this idea based on any user input?

Also agreed. Stomping Shrews sounds fun, but screw AA.
Also, have any of you Devs considered doing something festival-y in the housing neighborhoods? Maybe something as simple as a scavenger hunt? Call me crazy, but it seems like adding a token bit of festival content to the housing areas might be a good way to generate more interest, and enhance that festive feeling.

The shrew game will have multiple players participating at the same time. But you are quite correct that monsters in instances 'see' all players despite level; and that's exactly the tech we're using here on these shrews to make them 'see' all the players. :)

LOL, I see you are sidestepping the Ale Association objections though. Could you explain why there is no Inn League rep loss from trying to harm the Inn League?
