The Lord Of The Zings - The Escapist's Critical Miss web comic tackles LOTRO

I approve of this comic.

That comic is awesome. Personally I like to think of my RK's DPS as a stand-up act, and the Orcs as hecklers. Epic conclusion = "...but that would be unfair to aardvarks. GOODNIGHT" Shocking words = "[censored for Comedy Central broadcast]."

You know, I've been given infractions for linking stuff with less offensive language than that. Amazing how a "positive" message containing "mother****er" and "dip****" is somehow more appropriate than a negative one with "bast***" in it.

RK's are supposed to be so wordy, but they don't make any vocal sounds. I thought this was odd when they released the class. And where are her stones?

Yeah, I'm aware. I generally don't have a problem with Turbine's moderation of its forums (in other words, my infractions were either legitimate or pushing the envelope), but this particular example shows a pretty blatant double-standard; if that cartoon were negative, the links to it (and possibly the thread itself) would have been axed rather than commended.

I guess positive or negative are in the eye of the beholder. I see the cartoon very much leaning towards the latter. I loved it! :D Reminded me a little of insult sword fighting in the comedy classic Monkey Island.

I find it neatly highlights the laughable justifications behind two of the sillier classes that have been shoehorned into the game world in order to appeal to the lowest common denominator and impose the trite old MMO trinity of healer-tank-dps. The absurdity of the totally unnecessary whiz-fizz-bang rune keeper in particular was delightfully exposed.

Don't get me wrong, lotro is a wonderful, fun, generic fantasy MMO, or I wouldn't be playing it. The world builders in particular have done an amazing job. I just wish Turbine's interpretation of Middle-earth was closer to Tolkien's vision than to Beard and Kenney's ;)
