Separate name color for the community team?

Hello everyone,

Sapience just mentioned in another thread that there is a misperception that "blue name" means "person who writes code for the game". Seeing as how there are currently green and blue names to differentiate account support from other official Turbine representatives, it would kind of make sense if the community team were to be assigned a separate color from blue to clearly define them as being separate from actual developers.

Any thoughts on this?

I should further clarify this. MOST of the people players speak to do not write code. Only engineers (who rarely post) actually write code.

And seeing how this hasn't been an issue for 6+ years... I'm not sure it has suddenly become one.

To be honest, I'm not looking at this from the standpoint of there potentially being an issue -- it just makes more sense from a practical standpoint, personally.

So you're thinking of something like:

Blue Name: Community
Green Name: Account Support
Red Name: Developer

Like that?

I don't think it's really all that important, but it would be nice to see. There are quite a few of you blue names running around, it would make it a little easier to keep track of what you actually do! I'm sure that quite frequently RockX gets messages about threads being locked, or you get questions about some dev thing or another.

Why? We don't want coders wasting their time posting on forums particularly anyway--and thankfully they rarely do. We pay them to code, not schmooze. If they did, it'd be a sign of management issues.

The only thing account support people say is they can't provide private support on public forums, contact via their signature (IE, submit ticket/call). They don't need a special color for that.

The majority of people who interact with us are those hired to interact with us. All there needs to be is a distinction between the regular forum users/customers and those paid to be here, so the latter have recognizable legitimacy, IE, "uniforms".

The context of their posts makes it clear their purpose (often, simply being social)!

I pretty much have to agree with this. Sapience and Celestrata are the middle ground between us and the coders. I'd much rather have them code than spend time taking abuse from the forum members.

I think the color system is fine just the way it is.

Blue seems to be a traditional color on official gaming forums to flag employees in general so too many colors could potentially become more confusing for some folks :eek: However, most often, you'll find the blue name's role in their signature--which may, or may not clarify what they do because well, we have quite an assorted crew on our development team, some of which perform various tasks. This is another reason why colors are an issue... there are more roles on the team than colors in the night rainbow!
