U12 Warg Corruptions (DPS)

So I was really bored and decided to do some testing on DPS corruptions. I did this on an R8 warg, with 2 red OPs. I unequipped all other traits during the test. I used a heavy training dummy and just recorded the damage numbers from Claws. There is no variation in damages on claws when using the training dummy, so this provided a near perfect testing situation. Numbers of course will vary based on Battlefield Promotions, but should hold true when it comes to variations and percentages.

I started with a baseline of 0 Critical Ratings and 0 Mastery Ratings (C=Crit Corruption M= Mastery Corruption DfP/H = Damage for Power/Health)

The first 3 Critical Corruptions or Mastery Corruptions show ~10% increase in damage, while the second 3 only correlate to a ~5% increase. DfP T2/ DfH T2 only show less than a 2% increase in damage despite claiming 5%. The T1 is even worse by barely making 1% increase in damage numbers. You're better off slotting a single Mastery corruption than a DfP/H T2 and you receive the same increase in damage with no trade off. There is about a 10% difference in damage between C3M3 and C6M6, substantial but definitively hitting diminishing returns. The difference in C6M3 and C3M3 is only about 4% increase in the critical magnitude, while the mastery difference between C3M3 and C3M6 is 5.4%. The obvious difference is the crit 6-set heal bonus when you receive the Killing Blow vs the -100% power cost (that isn't working).

Edit: Tried HfD T2, and it only decreases damage by ~1% rather than 2.5% when traited with C3M3.

I can confirm the above.

The reason you don't get 5% more damage from a 5% Damage-for trait is simply that creep damage bonuses are already very high and Damage for X is additive, not multiplicative... with 3 OP bonus and no traits/corruptions equipped, my rank6 reaver sports +89.7% melee damage.. adding another 5% to that won't give me the full benefit.

The damage bonus on mastery rating tooltip isn't the only thing however.. Based on it alone, the base damage of my Serration should be 524.. 5% of 524 is 26, and if I slot +5% damage for power, I only gain 22 more damage.. which means there are some bonuses that aren't shown on the tooltip.. to wit, reavers have +15% melee damage passively and at rank 6 I've got 5% from battlefield promotion. 524/1.2 = 436.666 for the new Serration base damage, of which 5% is 21.833, which corresponds with my actual damage increase quite closely.

Simply put: devs have kept on increasing creep damage too much through the damage bonus rather than increasing the base damage of skills. My skill (with 3 ops) that does 994 damage actually has a base damage of 437. That's a damage multiplier of 2.27 before I've even slotted any traits.

I'd check for numbers without outpost bonuses, but might take a while before freeps take them all.

Meanwhile Health for X effectively works multiplicatively. Health for Power 2 + Health for Damage 2 gives you 1.1*1.1 = 1.21 health multiplier. There's no reason why Damage for X couldn't work similarly as I see it.

Interesting test, but why on earth would a warg ever have 6 crit rating corruptions slotted? I always run with Pack Alpha...mainly for the finesse, but the crit rating is nice. At rank 9 with that and 3 crit rating corruptions i'm at 24.6% crit...just 0.4% shy of the cap. Dev% is capped at 10%. Throw on top of that Frenzy being active 75% of the time.....I suppose my question is why even bother testing with 6 crit ratings? Just to increase the magnitude of said crits/devs?

Yes, exactly, to test the critical hit magnitude. It also carries a nice heal bonus when you steal the KB. Even though the crit % is capped, wargs achieve well above that consistently. Considering a good percentage ~40% of your skills will crit when crit capped the magnitude of crits do have a positive impact on your dps. This does not take into account those silly freeps who stack massive Crit Defense percentages in lieu of other stats.

You can see the magnitudes impact on dps by comparing C3M0 to C6M0 or C4M0 since mastery is not playing a role in dps. The difference in 3 extra crit ratings creates a positive magnitude on crit damage of 4% and 3% more damage per Dev.

I'm always surprised at how little the different combinations affect damage output.

When I'm fighting someone that has heals the +50 pts of damage make no real difference; conversely,
when getting spammed with 2K-6K attacks the 3% damage mitigations don't matter either.

I don't see how anyone could nerf themselves - you could have a computer randomly pick Creep
traits and 95% of the time you'd be within a very few points of damage with any other random build.

Really not much flexibility there.
