sorry for stupid thread, but i can't open thread out of "New Player Questions & Impressions" forum. Why?
Turbine has implemented a system which limits newer posters from posting new threads outside of the New Player forum. This was enacted to deal with spambots that register to the forum and post their spam. There's no information publicly released about what is required to have the limitation removed, but the gist is that it is most likely a combination of age of your forum account and how many posts you have made.
then i must write more posts? xD
Not necessarily. The exact nature of the posting limitation is not publicly known, because if it was, the spammer would circumvent the restriction.
If you have a question, you can post it in this forum. But, don't post simply to spam up your post count. Because, that might have the opposite effect of what you desire, potentially increasing the duration of your restriction, possibly indefinitely.
Ok, thank you
No one said these restrictions were solely on those with new accounts.
You have, and your profile shows that you last post was in August. You know, 9 months ago. You're hardly what I'd call an active poster.Quote:
I'm sure I've posted in other forums in the past,
Irrelevant. If money was all it took to remove the restriction, professional spammers would pay and we'd be no better off.Quote:
I've paid plenty of $$ to play this game;
Expect for there being a sane reason, you're otherwise correct.Quote:
and you're telling me I can't post anywhere relevant for no sane reason until some unknown something happens maybe one day?
Bahaha. I was surprised when i saw that i can't post. Problem being with the activity part of the restriction, is that i really only post when there is server maintenance and im waiting for the game to boot up - but more importantly, I will probably seldom find threads that i would be interested in posting on in a restricted new posters forum. My game account is nearing 3 years old, and my forum account i finally just activated today because i saw a post that i would have liked to post on in general discussion. It would be fantastic if someone would lift the restriction on my account, as this rare occasion of my interest in participating in the forum may not occur for another 2 years. and by that time i would hope that i could reply to relevant threads, instead of discussion how i cannot do so, in the newbie forum. :) either way is ok with me.
Since this is on the same topic as my less insulting thread, I'd like to add a few cents to the discussion.
My account has been activated for over two weeks, maybe three. I've posted at least 10 times in this area, maybe 15 even. My account is still restricted.
That aside, I respect the efforts to keep slime off the forum. What I didn't appreciate was some Mod locking my thread and threatening to ban my account simply because I ask questions as to what we can and cannot do in this forum area.
Lastly I will restate my unanswered last question from my thread. Can we set up threads here to play word games or discuss lore while we pass the time waiting for forum freedom, or will that be counted as spam?
Hi,
Sure, but if someone's had an account for a 6+ months (without spamming even though they had the opportunity) then the chance of them being an actual spammer would be extremely low (and the risk of "punishing the innocent" unjustifiably high).
Yes, I'm not an active poster. I find these forums to be very slow and mostly useless (and the moderators to be excessively zealous), and so I only really post when the server/s are down for maintenance. Like lots of people, I also take "many month" breaks from the game (e.g. from when I get bored with grinding the current content, until some time after a new update/content is released and decide to come back).
Hey, if spammers want to pay hundreds of $$$ on an account (that would get blocked almost as soon as they start spamming), then that sounds like quite a good way to raise funds to me!
You're deliberately trying your hardest to ignore sane reasons, and this tactic doesn't make for a rational argument.
Ah, here i found just my question.
So i am new to LOTRO and obviously also to the forum. Now i am not much of a forum kind of person, just here to check out the kinships and aply for one.
Now i understand why i am not able to reply in the 'kinship' sub-forum, but i don't really know what to do just now. So, any advise on how to be able to contact a kinship or even start a new one and find members when i am not able to post anything?
If you want to know about how to form a Kinship, just go to speak to any Clerk on Kinships to create one.
As to how to either advertise that you want to join a kinship, or you want others to join your kinship, you don't have to be able to post in the Kinship subforum. You could simply advertise in Regional chat where people are likely to gather. Bree-town is always bustling with people coming and going. And, since there's a festival, several people are gathered at the Shrew stomping event in Ered Luin and the Maze in north Bree-land.
Other than the New Player category, i cant post/reply anywhere on the forums, anyone know how to fix this?
Awaiting my transition to full posting privileges as well... No spam or trolling here :)
Good to know.
So, on this account and on all new player/unused forum accounts we're limited to one section. There should be a way that we can confirm that we are indeed not a spam account and wish to use the forums for legitimate reasons. It's a bit hard to build up to whatever requirement we need to meet to post in other forums by only being able to post in the new player section, which is pretty much the least relevant section for anyone who's been playing for a month+. Say there's a 20 post requirement we must meet here before we're allowed to branch into other forums, we'd have to be either very creative or very nooby to fill that requirement in the new player section alone. There should be an alternative to this. Thoughts?
And, what's to keep the spammers from lying and them spamming all the other forums?
Again, what's to stop a spammer from creating 20 threads of spam, then start spamming in the other forums?Quote:

This is a sticky issue. Made no less sticky by the fact that we're keeping the new posters locked into the same forum as the spammers, where in the event of a massive spam attack, the threads of the new posters are likely to be buried, giving a negative impression of the site and diminishing their interest in the game.Quote:

I don't really have an answer that would ultimately keep spammers at bay, and I really don't want to see captcha be implemented here. Though, at the very least, Sapience should put up a sticky thread explaining that there is a posting restriction so we don't have a "why i no can post elsewhere?" thread every few days.
I think you misunderstood my post, that's the current system from what I understand. You have to post here a certain number of times before you're granted access to other areas of the forums. That should change to something more effective and player/poster friendly.
