Update 5pm EST we are still seeing issues with Nimrodel when we turn transfers on for it. We are investigating the issue, but do not have an ETA at this time
Yikes! Hope it gets figured out!
Our kin leader was lucky and got to xfer - our kin has now disbanded and it's members will be hoping to move soon :)
I'm sure glad we started this process this morning so we had plenty of time to figure it out before most players on that server got home from work/school...can you imagine if we'd had to wait till 3PM to start figuring this out?
Said no one at Turbine...
:/
OK I can now confirm we are seeing successful transfers off of Nimrodel. It looks good to go now. Wait time is about 2 hours
Got it now - thank you! :)
Huzzah!

yup - can confirm my xfer is in progress :)
thanks!
Because Nimrodel was not yet ready, I transferred two characters from Anduin to another EU server. This process is still going on.
Now I don't see Nimrodel as available. Can I only move from one server at a time?

Question for a Blue-Name:
What if, a long time ago, you changed servers voluntarily, and decided that you wanted to leave your older-names behind for whatever reason. You wanted something fresh, something new, you wanted to be able to roleplay, and so you moved to an RP-encouraged server, changing how you named your characters, placing more time and effort into names, etc. Then, you realize that, now, with World Transfers, you want to try to reclaim some of those old alts, and move them over to the server that you are currently on. After all, you had invested past time and hours into those characters- though it wasn't enough to pay 50 dollars to save 20-40 levels that could, compared to 50 dollars, be simply repeated. You were willing to spend that on level-capped characters, because, well, they had the most time and investment involved in their in-game growth and development. Now, you realize that you have a choice: you can let those 2 level 20's and 1 level 43 disintegrate into pixelated dust in endless limbo, or, for free, because the closing of the world isn't optional, you can try to salvage those old alts. But, you detest how you had named them in the past- you want to rename them into something more lore-appropriate, though your current server is still only an RP-encouraged server. Doesn't matter.
Now, from a name-griefing-avoidance and enforcement perspective, you know that you can't just make those characters on your current server, so that when their counterparts transfer-over from the other server, they'll get the -1's, and, therefore, rename tokens. You know you can't do this because it looks like you're doing something wrong- although you aren't. Your intention isn't to steal someone else's names or grief them. They are -your- names, your characters, and you are simply trying to get rid of your older names, for aesthetic reasons. You simply don't like what you had named those old characters on the old server a long time ago, and you'd rather make them fit what you are currently doing, like roleplaying, far more. You've changed as a player, and the types of things that you like to do in-game have changed as well. You don't want to exploit anything or break any rules. You just want to tailor what you had made in the past, that is now transferable to the present, to fit your current play-style. That is all.
That's the honest truth here- it's all I want to be able to do. I cringe at my old characters' names, like Nagation, and would rather turn him into a Limben (and if that's taken, then something else) or something similar, an actual Sindarin name. Prior to my movement between servers, I was more of a casual player. I got interested in roleplaying, and can now be called a roleplayer. I've changed. And so I don't like how casual Phan made Nagation- I want Auru, as I'm called now, to be able to salvage that level 43 character on Nimrodel, the leveling and experience, etc., without having to keep that atrocious name.
So, I'm the other extreme- the opposite of the player who wants (and rightfully so) to keep her/his name that she/he has had for years. What may I permissibly do, that will not involve having to spend 995 tps on a rename token? I want these alts, their leveling and experience, to be transferred over to my current server. But I want to toss those old names in the trash, giving them something new and better than what I had named them before. As I said, I never want to exploit anything or do anything wrong, and I certainly don't want to appear as if I'm doing so. I love LOTRO, rules and all, and I just want to be able to enjoy the game-world and quest and rp in peace, a BB here and there; that's all. This is why I'm writing here rather than making a dumb decision, or deciding not to transfer at all.
Ty for your time and patience :)
Phantion, your message is probably way too long for Vyvyanne to sift through to get to the point of your question. Here's a distillation that she might actually read and comment on:
If players would like to rename their characters when they transfer, does Turbine have any objection to intentionally causing a name collision to get a free rename token?
And based on the communication in the past, I think the answer is no.
Phantion:
There are multiple ways of going about solving your issue. If I understand it correctly, you have characters on a closing server whose names you no longer like, and you would a chance to rename them. One of the ways you can do this is to create a NEW character with that name on the server you want to go to. When you move your old character, it will see some level 1 with the name, and you will then get "name-1" and a rename credit.
If that is possible, that would be the easiest way to go about it. If, however, your name is already taken by some inactive character, this will not work. If you attempt to transfer, the inactive character will be renamed, and you will not get a -1 name, and not get a rename token. There are two ways around this:
1) create a character on a closing server with that name, and transfer it BEFORE you transfer you original name character. You only have limited opportunity to do this as the character creation on a server will be turned off as soon as the server is opened for transfer. If you do this, you will transfer on to the server with the inactive person. The inactive person will become "name-1", you will retain "name". If, however, you now transfer your old name character on to the server, it will be renamed "name-2" because "name" is taken by your transfer, and "name-1" by the inactive. You will also get a rename token, and there you go.
2) create a character on ANOTHER remaining server with the name, and transfer your old character there. Later, once you have the name you want, you can move it to Landroval as part of one of the free transfer events. This is slightly more risky, because someone on Landroval can take the name in the mean time.
In any case, Turbine or a "blue name" will not have a solution for you, you sort of have to be creative within the rules of the current naming policy.
to the best of my knowledge the friends lists sorts correctly. If you have a toon on your friends list that last logged in prior to march 2015 and that toon (the march 2015) is listed before that, it is considered 2014 or older, ttbomk.
I have friends who have not logged in since 2007. When I sort they need to be at the bottom of the list, always, no matter what the month. Sometimes I add a note as to what year they last logged. Its complicated. I'd love to see the year on the friends list for this very reason.
Could someone please tell me if there's a specific link for reporting major bugs due to server transfers? My transfer completed but my account has become completely unusable.
Update: Found the cause of the problem and corrected it. Transfers from Nimrodel to Arkenstone completed successfully.
And now, let us stand while we sing the Arkenstone Anthem...
Arkenstone, oh Arkenstone! Our new home shall you be.
Arkenstone, oh Arkenstone! From Sauron, you we'll free.
No dwarven gems can outshine you.
Your beauty is always bright and true.
Arkenstone, oh Arkenstone! We'll love and protect thee!
- Telemachos Rex, Leader of the Clan of Crimson Ivory
Can you explain what "completely unusable" means?
If you want to file a ticket, either do it in-game using the F7 key, or, if you can't log on at all use http://support.turbine.com to create a ticket.
