World Transfers

Yeah, I can see my post was too long- I just wanted to establish where I was coming-from, that's all. Ty to those who responded- I do know the 'make an alt with the same name and then get the -1 on-transfer' method. But before I'd even bother doing it, I'd have to A- know that the names of the right alts (the higher-levels transferring into Landy from Nimrodel) would get the -1's- rather than the level one alts with the same names, and more importantly, B- that Turbine was ok with this. If its deemed as a form of exploit or name-griefing, however unintentional (-not name-griefing in my case since its to change my names, not someone else's), then I simply wouldn't do it at all.

So, Turbine, is it ok for me to try to get guaranteed free rename tokens for my alts who will be transferring from Nimrodel into Landroval?

Any word on the status of Brandywine upgrade and transfers?

I would like some official word on how it is supposed to work if a personal home owning character transfers onto a server where there is an existing personal home owning character. In particular, how does additional, purchased, house storage work in this case? Is it supposed to merge? Or are you simply supposed to lose the additional purchased storage for the transferring character?

The purchased storage is merging, but the 30 slots you get initially when buying a house is not.

So:

Closing Server: House with 30 base storage + 30 purchased storage = 60 storage.
Destination Server: House with 30 base storage + 45 purchased storage = 75 storage.

End result: House with 30 base storage + 30 purchased storage + 45 purchased storage = 105 storage.

The reason you don't get another 30 "base" storage is that it is part of the house price..... You would in theory be able to buy 10 houses on closing servers, and get a buckload of storage for "free." You get refunded the house purchase price, and as such get refunded that 30 base storage too.

Transfers FROM Brandywine are open now.
Transfers TO Brandywine will open when the new hardware is in place, which Vyvyanne has now estimated to be "just before the Thanksgiving holiday", so with a little luck in about 5 weeks. :)

You won't get "guaranteed free rename tokens". When you transfer, you may get the -1 addition if your name is taken AND considered active. If you do, you get a rename token, if you don't your name won't change.... If you want to change the name still in that case it is a purely voluntary name change and you will have to pay for one. Turbine is NOT going to issue free rename tokens to everyone who transfers and whose name have become "inconvenient" to them somehow.

Since you are on Nimrodel its a little harder to do "test" transfers, you will have to create characters on Windfola (the next on schedule for next Tuesday) and see how they transfer next week.

After many attempts at transferring some of my characters on Nimrodel, I would like to know if I can get assistance to transfer them. It seems the automatic system won't allow me to transfer 4 of my remaining chars. I have succeeded at transferring 8 characters from that server already, but for an unknown reason, 4 of them won't go. I have followed and read the procedure previous to the transfer, but now I don't know where I can get assistance to fix my situation. Any advice or help is welcome.

Since I answered on the thread you opened about this, I will just copy/paste my answer here too:

Have you logged these characters in recently? If you haven't logged the characters in for quite some time, you may have to do this first. There are some cases where characters don't transfer properly, for instance when they changed the housing from multiple chests to 1 "big" chest, and when they changed the inventory system from 3 to 6 individual bags to a system where you could change the bag layout. These changes are apparently written to a character when you log it on. Another example is the update they did not far prior to helms deep where they attached marks and lootbox/key to deed completions, and when you logged on a character that had done those deeds you would receive a lot of marks and possibly some keys/lootboxes on logon.... It is with those kinds of things the transfers won't work right. There have been a few of these updates over the years that "change" a character when you log it on.

Finally, there is one scenario I am suspecting but not sure about: If your character has not logged on for 1 year, and you transfer it to a server where your name exist and it is also inactive for 1 year, who gets the name? It could very well be it does not like a variable like that and it chokes. The solution is to log on the character, make it "active" again, and try the transfer again.

If any of the above isn't true, you can file a ticket on http://support.turbine.com and the support team should be able to help. Expect a wait time of a few days.

Apologies if this has already been asked and answered, but I'm considering moving my characters. My only concern is over my housing items. My inventory, vault, shared storage and housing chest are all pretty much full, so what will happen to my housing items if I was to transfer? Would I need to purchase additional storage beforehand in order to avoid losing items?

Is there a means to fix this issue?

The situation I have experienced is that I have 60 on the closing server, 60 on the surviving server. In each case this consists of 30 that came with the house and 30 more purchased on top of it. Homeowner transfers from closing server to surviving server. Storage capacity on the house on the surviving server is still 60 after the transfer, exactly as it was before the transfer. If I understand you, and the other related post, this is an error. The new total storage on the surviving server should have been 90 (30 initial + 30 purchased on first server +30 purchased on second server). But it is actually still only 60.

It should be 90 if you made +30 purchase on 2 different serers than merged those toons onto 1 server

I would submit a customer support ticket or call Turbine and explain the situation... they may be able to refund the tpp or grant you the storage space

Same here.
My Nimrodel had bought 45 housing storage, and my Arkenstone had bought 30. Only the extra 45 shows. But no biggie to me. No clue if I got refunded the price of the storage or anything like that, which may be the case.

Thanks. I'll submit a ticket then. Just wanted to be sure it was an error before I bothered anyone further (I'm sure they have their hands full as it is!).

Everything will go into overflow, you will not lose anything. In my example I am both kin leader and house owner. When I moved the kinship, it dumped the content of everything in my kinship house and my normal house into the 60 slots of my personal house (as soon as I rebought it), which ended up being something like 230-ish items in 60 slots of housing space. Your storage will then say e.g. 232/60, and at that moment you can only take items *OUT* until you reach a number lower than 60.

The same is true for your vault, shared storage, wardrobe, etc....you will not lose any items.

One thing you WILL need to be careful about is bound items. If you move, e.g. 10 characters to server A, and 5 characters to server B, and you move all of your house/shared storage to server A.... any items that were bound to players that you moved to server B, will become "bound to unknown player" (it will say that). There is nothing you can do with these items except right click --> delete, OR if you really want that item, move the character it belongs to from server B over to server A when transfers are available. So if you want to KEEP any items bound to players when you spread your characters to various servers, make sure those items exist in their personal vaults or their inventory bags, not in storage that MAY move to another server, such as shared and housing storage.

I just now successfully moved 8 toons from Nimrodel to Arkenstone (about 30 minutes ago). It took 3 minutes to get a confirmation email for my home owner, 2-3 minutes for email about shared items, and then 1 minute for the other 7 toons together. Of course then I had to go through my list deleting name-holder toons on Arkenstone, renaming, and having to continuously select which toons I want available (every time I delete a placeholder), and which ones stay locked until I buy more character slots.

Just checked my bank - all items there as well :)

Now to find a house...

I will be very happy when Vilya opens for transfers :D
