World Transfers

I have a question about one of the character transfer effects...

I have an open beta Male Spider on Meneldor (yes male == you can tell by familial titles, "Father of..." or "Son of..." rather than "Mother" or "Daughter")

This was a bug fixed sometime in the first year of the game, but the fix only applied to spiders rolled after the fix.
In the past, anytime one of us few remaining ancients transferred to another server, the fix was applied.

Will this bug fix still happen with this new transfer system?

I am very proud of the fact I am one of the very few remaining original spiders, with the bug to prove it.
I would be saddened to lose that distinction.

Thanks for the continued feedback on our pesky questions. I have one for you. I know currently Elendilmir has been the unofficial "Oceanic" server. There are many Australian, Kiwi's and Asians playing on that server. If that server closes, will you be able to designate an official "Oceanic" server for those players who play outside of prime time US? So we know which server best to migrate too. As some servers which are highly populated, can be pretty quiet at 3am EST. Whereas Elendilmir seems to be consistent with numbers 24hours. It will be good to keep all the Aussies together too

So we basically get penalised for having characters on different servers then and have to buy extra slots? I think you should at least raise the number of free character slots since these transfers aren't exactly voluntary.

I don't think I'll have this problem myself, and as a Lifetime account holder I can easily afford to buy more slots with my monthly TP allowance but it strikes me as unfair regarding F2P / Premium players.

For all these people who think or hope that the EU RP servers would survive this:

It´s nearly impossible! For example. There are six german servers atm! They will merge to one german server. And all the non-rp servers should be forced to go on an rp server and stick to their rules? there will be one rp server for the EU region... and this will be an english speaking one. no doubt

That's why I propose 6 servers, so you have a choice between RP and normal for every language.

There are six German and six English EU servers. (And two French.) The German servers seem to be about equally busy as the English ones.
I expect the end result for the EU servers to be two German, two English, and one French.

I have been a VIP and actively played and continue to play on Nimrodel since May, 2007. Should a naming conflict occur if I must transfer, I will be extremely upset to have a 1 added to my name because that name was used by someone who started the game (possibly free to play) two or three years ago. You should think about giving some consideration to those few of us who have supported Lord of the Rings Online since the beginning!

That's why I suggested that character age is considered as well on top of the activity check. I really hope that Turbine reconsiders this.
At the moment the solution is very unfair and prone to abuse. Those that are forced to move have to make all the sacrifices whereas those that can stay at their home server are not affected at all.
Oldest naming rights first if two characters have been active over the last year is what I propose even if I lose some if my names because I'm not one of the longer time players.

You can reserve your names now and play pranks on others by reserving their names. The current plan is prone to abuse and it will happen. Mark my words.

This has been proposed literally dozens of times in previous threads on this topic. Rest assured Turbine was and is aware of players' concerns. But they seem to have made their decision.

I don't think it will, but maybe I'm giving the community more credit than it deserves.
Personally, I think folks have more important things to do with their time...and that maybe you are blowing things out of proportion.
I guess we will find out.

Some of us suggested ./played as the rule for keeping the name. But that 'discriminated against founder/long term casuals'.
And some of us suggested oldest account. But that meant inactive accounts created 5 years ago got priority. Which sux.
And some suggested VIP should have priority...but that discriminates against premiums who spend on the game, too.
And many people said, if they had a community on the server (and even F2Pers have community and are known) then why should they change their name on a server where they are well known, and have played for years, for an incomer who no one knows, anyway?


So short of a complex algorithm taking all these factors and more, into account, this seems the fairest and the simplest.

With any luck your names will have been held by someone who took them in alpha and hasn't played since...and you'll get to keep them.

edit: Me, I have a list of alternatives I have created a f2p account to reserve. But plenty of people on Landy who have transferred recently seem happy with their -1.

I'd suggest (as per Landy world chat) that the default rename be 'the first' or I II III etc as this is classier...but it's probably too late for that.

edit 2: i had hoped they'd give us 1 extra character slot for free if we have to transfer-rather than the fluff- or a choice between the two. Then at least we could move all our stuff to our other 'main' server with one character...

These are already transferring with you now. The problem was the shared stuffs that so far could not be transferred :) So no worries there :D

You may say the same about the native population of the server. Those coming in with the others from their server also have communities and are well known. So why should they change their names for some native residents that no one of them knows? This argument works both ways. ;)

The thing that really grinds my gears (lol)...folks going on about losing their name...just add a bloody surname.
How hard is that? I know, I know..."I don't want to use a surname!" "Using only my first name defines who I am!!" "Only hobbits have surnames!!!" etc. etc. etc.

Whilst it's great to see a sitrep on the transfers, I too am a little disappointed with the naming conflict resolution.


When, the server transfers were first mentioned I took an exploratory journey to see if my names were available. Alas they were not, indeed all of them belonged to characters between lvl 7 - 12 with last login dates many months prior. But If I'm reading this right, all they need do is login just once before the transfer/merger and they'll keep that name.

Is it not possible to assign the names to the player with the most hours played?

I'm mean if someone logs in just the once, but then decides, meh... And moves their main to another server but leaves the dummy one there - never to be played again, and I've moved all my toons there, and lost the names... That's gunna tick me off.

Oh, I trust the individual server forums will remain open untill well into the next year so people can co-ordinate with friends about their movements?

So... no free character slots?

Rats. I have 10 slots, some mains and some guild-crafters on my account, and a character I use to wander the Shire with my son. I was hoping to bring over my Snowbourne character (good RP name), my Laurelin RP hobbit and some from Withy.

If I bring 10 characters on to a server that I already have two characters on, will I be told to buy 2 more slots, leave two behind or will they simply combine and add the new chars on?

What really bothers me is housing. I don't want to move. Although there is enough housing available according to Viv, I have my doubts that I can keep my street address. And I love my Falathlorn home. I also have a kin house in the same neighborhood not far from there. No other place has the same view right from the yard.

Question about this statement "When transferring a character who owns a house on a world, the belongings and the history of the ownership of that house will go with that character to its new world. This means storage capacity, Upkeep Prepayments, Ownership time and Grace period time will all be remembered and applied to the house you might purchase on your destination world. "

- Does this mean that only character who owns the house on a world will be able to purchase the house on the new world? If not and any character on the account can purchase the house on the new world, will the belongings and the ownership history of the house be transferred to the character who purchased the house in the new world?

I agree, surnames would be better.

What I also think should happen is Turbine finally needs to release some inactive names, I am talking about level 1 characters who have never logged into the game & have sat that way for years. I have come across tons of names that cannot be used & have never logged in.

I'm having a bit of trouble checking whether my character names are taken and wondered if anyone would be able to help. To check whether they are already taken on the new server I can try to add my characters names to my friends list. If they are taken it will add them, if not I receive the error that "The player does not exist". However, for two of my characters I receive the separate error "This character cannot be added". Furthermore instead of receiving the error that the player does not exist when I try to send them a tell I am instead told that they are simply offline. At first I thought they must be a monster player but this does not appear to be the case. The best explanation I have had so far has been that these are characters from Codemasters that have not made the transition yet but I wondered if Turbine or anyone else could confirm this for me?

For bound housing items that are returned to their owners when the kin house needs to be moved, how are they returned?

Are they returned via in-game mail, character storage, or character inventory?

Just want to know so if people in the kin need to free up storage or inventory slots to be able to get their items back, I can let them know in advance.

I live in Sweden and I don't know my latency either but thankfully I have no lag at all :) A little bit at Weatherstock, but mostly just when moving the camera rapidly over the crowd while zooming out, and when I first rode up the hill. The only way to know how it will be after the move is to wait and see... and hope :)

Got a question what is stopping current players now rolling new characters with the names they want to keep on every server (asuming it's not taken),so they sort of reserve the name,seems a bit of a free for all really.
For me I just came back after 3 years waiting for the EU servers to move back to the EU side due to high ping,what I think would of been a better idea is go by age of the said active character as this would stop the above issue from happening,(this would actually affect me as I have just re-rolled a lot of my 4 year old characters lol).Is there no way this could of been done ?
