Re: Tell the Community Team: July 10, 2009
Question 1
Would you be interested in an item that would allow you to disable “monster-kill” XP for a fixed period of time?
I wouldn't but if it would cause all those whiners to shut up on the forums than I am all for it.
Question 2
What does “end game” mean to you?
All the repeatable content and gear for people who have hit the level cap. Basically anything that keeps you playing when you are done leveling.
Question 3
Occasionally we offer ‘special’ items like the Writ of Passage or Unique Cloaks to our players. What kind of special items would you like to see in the future?
I am a big fan of housing so I would love to see special housing items like the Birdcage and Mouse that were offered to us in MoM.

Question 1
Would you be interested in an item that would allow you to disable “monster-kill” XP for a fixed period of time?
Not really. I like the extra XP, since I am a fairly casual player it helps me level faster.
Question 2
What does “end game” mean to you?
Nothing. I'm not an end game player. I see no point in knocking myself out to get every piece of special armour (even though I do wish there were an alternate way to get some of the special armours) or kill every big boss, or do every raid over and over again in hopes of getting some special item. I find playing that way very boring.
Question 3
Occasionally we offer ‘special’ items like the Writ of Passage or Unique Cloaks to our players. What kind of special items would you like to see in the future?
Perhaps a Writ of Vendor discount so we can get the same discount we get in our neighborhood if we are off somewhere crafting and run out of a certain item, a Writ of Repair discount if we are far from home and need some major repairs to continue to play and/or a Writ of Superior Work Facilities that would allow us to use a regular work facility as a superior one. I would prefer special items that don't take up precious storage space.
Also special furniture that could actually hold clothing so we don't have to use so much storage space for cosmetic clothing.
Things like, the Writ of passage, that really have value and are useful, unlike that one pocket item you could get with the MoM reward tokens that gave a 5 min run boost with a 4 hour cooldown (that was ridiculous), or many of the cloaks that have been handed out.
I would also like it if the "crit" items we make with guild patterns were signable/nameable like the same item is when we crit it with a regular recipe. It should be, afterall we went to all the extra work to get the Guild standing and there is a cooldown period between making pieces (unlike the regular recipes that can be done as many times as you want) so we should be able to name/sign our guild pieces.

No, I would not like an item that disables monster kill xp.
(An item is bad, as it would take up a precious bag slot, and be subject to an arbitrary timer which would force me to go back and use it after it wore off...this would be annoying.) I, however, would like an option somewhere in the UI options that would allow me to disable/enable monster kill xp at will. Same for turning off the "blue" in my xp bar, and turning off xp rewards for quests, if possible.

The end-game is anything after the max-lvl is reached on my character. The reason I won't cancel my account saying "I win, next game" is the content, such as raids and crafting, and the developing game story line (I love JRR,) that hold my interest in the game. The legendary weapons hold my interest, for now, but frustrate me in that I cannot customize them more, such as run a special quest (or win a special nemesis-drop item) that would allow me to swap out a bad legacy for a good one on a weapon. I would also love to be able to craft legendary weapons for people, but it just doesn't seem worth the effort right now if you can't customize it yourself.

Writ of passage was great, it didn't take up bag space! :) Much better than the implementation of the glass of angral that I deleted within a week; Turbine has come along way since the start of the game.
Things that become passive skills when used are wonderful, and almost anything along those lines would be welcome. My idea of a new type of item would be something that would become an active cosmetic trait, but it would be usable say, once per day, and it would create a halo of light around your weapon, or cast a halo of light around a person's head (light of the vala in the eyes of the elves,) much like the glowy-hands of minstrels. Not only would this look cool, but it could be useful for a raid leader to make himself glowy, in a cool way, rather than putting a big paw above his head to mark himself.
Another idea would be to get a special horse-emote that you can learn by right-clicking a scroll. Something to make your horse do something neat: such as rear up hi-ho silver type style, or walk with high-steps like a Tennessee Walker. Heck, even jumping up into the air while stationary, like a Lipizzaner, would be neat.

Question 1
Would you be interested in an item that would allow you to disable “monster-kill” XP for a fixed period of time?
Not at all.
Question 2
What does “end game” mean to you?
To me it is content which challenges the skill of a player, has a very HIGH replay value, has tangible rewards equal to the effort put in. That said I enjoy group content as I love coordinating with other players. So raids are very much what I enjoy bother 12 and 24. I wish Turbine would make another 24 man raid. I like crafting that actually has some meaning, give crafters access to Radiance gear. I like 6 man instances as well. More instances like the Battle of Lorien would also be great!
Question 3
Occasionally we offer ‘special’ items like the Writ of Passage or Unique Cloaks to our players. What kind of special items would you like to see in the future?
I would love to see class specific mounts :)

Re: Tell the Community Team: July 10, 2009
Question 1
Would you be interested in an item that would allow you to disable “monster-kill” XP for a fixed period of time?
Monster-kill.... no, not in the least. ALL XP/Quest XP.... absolutely!
As was mentioned in the "25% Bonus XP" thread, the majority of your XP comes from quests, not from monster kills. So disabling monster kill XP won't do much, and it isn't a solution to the "we want slower leveling" crowd (IMO), since as has been pointed out the bulk of XP comes from quests.
Toggle All XP... totally, I would love that. That way I could actually do all the quests at level rather then mostly blue/green/gray.
Question 2
What does “end game” mean to you?
Level cap primarily. When there is no more XP to be had.
Question 3
Occasionally we offer ‘special’ items like the Writ of Passage or Unique Cloaks to our players. What kind of special items would you like to see in the future?
A scroll which reduces the cost of traiting at the Bard... like the Writ of Passage.
A single-use scroll which summons a Bard wherever you are, so you can retrait mid-instance, but with a higher cost like the Repair Anvils.
A scroll which reduces base Mail postage.

Question 1
Would you be interested in an item that would allow you to disable “monster-kill” XP for a fixed period of time?
I don't know... I don't see why you'd want to? Unless you think you're leveling through the content too fast. Well, in that regard, sure, I think the best video games allow you to customize your own experience as much as possible, so why not bring this item in game for those that want to slow down their leveling experience?
Question 2
What does “end game” mean to you?
For me, it's doing the hardest instances and raids available!
Question 3
Occasionally we offer ‘special’ items like the Writ of Passage or Unique Cloaks to our players. What kind of special items would you like to see in the future?
Unique horses and titles

Question 1
That would be a cool way to help stay in the same level range as your friends, or you could link the two characters together.
Question 2
Here in LOTRO end game means my elf goes into the west, and we get to rebuild places that have been destroyed.
Question 3
Silly and useless powers that are fun to use...like having Radagast the Brown teach us to speak to animals and have a parade of squirrels and toads follow us around, or make those dratted cats leave that room in Bree. That place has got to be in need of cleaning, did you see a litter box because I didn't.

Question 1
Would you be interested in an item that would allow you to disable “monster-kill” XP for a fixed period of time?
Don't really care for such thing
Question 2
What does “end game” mean to you?
Generally means the content when ones character reach maximum level. Most importantly further character development after the level increase. Currently Lotro is excellent by having lots of followship instances and LI as an alternative leveling. More job traits are always welcome to further working your character to a different path then others same class as you.
Question 3
Occasionally we offer ‘special’ items like the Writ of Passage or Unique Cloaks to our players. What kind of special items would you like to see in the future?
Cosmetics will be the best.

Question 1
Would you be interested in an item that would allow you to disable “monster-kill” XP for a fixed period of time?
Why would anyone ever want to do this?
Question 2
What does “end game” mean to you?
Content that requires much more than just having a max level character to have a chance of completing. End Game content is content that requires nearly the best gear that can be acquired for your class from other places or else you will be simply crushed by the "end game" content. I would like to see more things that folow along the line of DN where the end game content is tiered - You need to finish the 6man radiance instances to get enough radiance to go to the watcher, and you need radiance from the watcher in order to not have negative skill level in DN. I hope that prior to the next levelcap raise there will be more content that has static dread along the lines of 180gloom, thus requiring significant progress from DN to move into it.
Question 3
Occasionally we offer ‘special’ items like the Writ of Passage or Unique Cloaks to our players. What kind of special items would you like to see in the future?
I would like special items that are rewards for all members of a kinship that complete certain instances on certain days. Example for a 1week event: must kill the lost one 3 times on monday, defeat flagit from DN on tuesday, gain 100,000 renown on wednesday, kill the watcher thursday, etc.
This could be things that are very difficult to complete and even more difficult to keep up with for the entire course of the week, so an end reward for keeping up with all of the requirements for a week would be great "show off" item for members of a kin to receive.

Not for me, but I could see how some people might like that. If you are trying to do all of the zones in a linear order, you will begin outleveling the starting MoM quests long before you get to them.

I used to be a pretty serious WoW raider, so I can certainly appreciate the end-game raiding concept. However, it's extremely difficult for developers to stay ahead of that curve; it's a lot easier to clear content than to develop it.
Endgame to me would be features that encourage repeated interaction with players and NPCs. PvMP is one example. There's nothing wrong with making that more robust to give players a solid endgame option that doesn't require raiding. I would avoid creating special "pvp" gear and turning it into another gear grind, however.
Wealth accumulation is always a popular goal for a lot of players. WoW handled this well with daily quests that would provide reputation and gold. Personally, I would make the player choose to get reputation OR gold (since getting reputation for doing a hired task doesn't make sense). Perhaps 2-3 quests available per faction would be appropriate, but set a maximum daily limit to avoid gold inflation (i.e. no more than 10 daily quests per day by a single account). I could see mail and pie delivery quests being repeated in the Shire!
The collection of vanity items is also a popular endgame option. WoW solved this by adding titles (heh) and greatly increasing the variety of mounts and non-combat pets. Obviously, lore restrictions prevent mount proliferation in LOTRO, but pets! Let someone have a lot of pets in their house, and they can take one with them on their adventures -- perhaps disallowing them in instanced raids.
Another type of vanity item is the trophy. WoW introduced extremely rare fish types for the most committed anglers. Catching all of them granted a title. LOTRO should have something like this. When I say 'rare', I am talking about fish that are about 1 in 1000 drops. In other words, so rare that only the most committed fishermen will get them. Perhaps completing the rare-fish deed provides a vanity item for fishermen in addition to a trophy: a cap, a jacket, a chair, a special fishing pole.. you get the idea.
In a similar fashion, rare unique mobs could spawn infrequently and provide special trophies for hunters. There were rare mobs in wow that would spawn once every 2-3 months, but they didn't have the concept of a trophy. Hunters would love to bag these rare and almost-unique trophies! Just make sure that the spawn points are somewhat variable so hunters don't feel like they have to camp a single point to find the mob.
Or perhaps the trophy dropped by the mob is given to a local NPC, who promptly stuffs it and puts in on display with a note: "captured by Player X"... that stays up for a month, giving the hunter some public credit.
For farmers, vanity gardens and flower beds for their houses would be nice. I mean real gardens, not the fake ones we have now, where the player can grow ingredients to sell or supply his cooking skill. The only limitation I would make is that no skillups can be made in a personal garden, since that would inhibit player interaction in non-instanced areas.
Finally, there should be some interactive mini-game that players can enjoy to pass the time with each other when they want to socialize but don't want to raid or kill mobs. One good suggestion I've seen is a tavern dart board game. Perhaps players in taverns can challenge each other to a game of darts, opening up a mini-game that they can play. Perhaps a monthly "champion" is named for each tavern, entitling them to free drinks for the month!

Answers:
1) I don't do monster-play, so this means nothing to me, to be honest.
2) "End Game". Basically, the end of the game. Let's hope we're not discussing this already!
3) Why not have each server vote(and people can't vote for themselves or any of their toons) as to who best represents their server as a helpful, kind and generous person. One vote per account. The top 3-5 from each server get a special title, and perhaps a special item that would allow them to port themselves somewhere they have already been to, and would be available once every 30 mins, totally free as a reward for being such good representatives of their server.

Re: Tell the Community Team: July 10, 2009
Musings on the "END-GAME" thing....
I kinda have mixed feelings about the very term, "end-game," itself. To me, the term sounds too much like the chess term, in which a player is trying to figure out how to checkmate his opponent and end the game!
Far from being the "end game," I think a well-designed MMO's activity at the level cap (in whatever form it takes) should be seen more as the beginning of the real game. To me the whole levelling process should be seen as sort of an extended customization process, in which our characters acquire a more-or-less unique collection of items, skills, and attributes. And then, once the player has tweaked his character to the maximum extent he/she can under the rules of the game's system, the player moves on into a collection of content designed for characters of that level of development.
Unfortunately, this is not what we're getting.
The problem with LOTRO's approach so far with the whole "end-game" thing is that it winds up feeling like little more than a break (or worse, a collection of features deliberately designed to be time sinks) until the level cap is increased again, ushering in the next phase of level-grinding. The mentality appears to be that levelling in and of itself is content. And so, true "end-game" content never gets the chance to accumulate. We're given a raid here, a raid there, and a token PvP zone... and that's it until the cap goes up. And then, when the cap does go up, the previous "end-game" content is instantly made obsolete, and the process of cranking out a new raid or two for the new end-game kicks in again from Square One.
Treat your level-capped characters as Heroes of the Realm, for crying out loud! Build content for them at their level! And if people are complaining that the "end-game" phase of your MMO is boring, look for reasons why they feel that way. My bet is that one root issue will turn out to be insufficient tools for customization of their characters, resulting in cookie-cutter builds and gear collections.
As far as the sort of content I would be interested in for complete-template characters, I would postulate three categories: 1. Raiding; 2. PvP that feels like it fits into the game-world; and 3. Pursuit of epic storylines. Of the three, I would prefer to see the most emphasis on #3, since this is Lord of the Rings we're dealing with. Crafting would also fit in there somewhere, if it were worth a flip in this game's level-cap environment.

Question 1
Would you be interested in an item that would allow you to disable “monster-kill” XP for a fixed period of time?
Not for me, no.
Question 2
What does “end game” mean to you?
"End game" is the time when the fun of leveling is over and I continue the journey by other means: gaining rep, for instance. The parts I enjoy the most are exploring places I couldn't go before and continuing the epic books. What it most certainly does NOT mean is raiding and forced group content. I enjoy grouping and raiding, but my schedule makes it tough to squeeze those in. After two years in the game, I still haven't seen the Rift Balrog, and all my characters are currently stuck at group-only book chapters.
Question 3
Occasionally we offer ‘special’ items like the Writ of Passage or Unique Cloaks to our players. What kind of special items would you like to see in the future?
Beats me. Fun fluffy stuff suits me fine, but another possibility might be something that would give you a free damage-type scroll, like the ones you get from Midnight Raid and such.

Question 1
Would you be interested in an item that would allow you to disable “monster-kill” XP for a fixed period of time?
No
Question 2
What does “end game” mean to you?
"end game" means I can no longer progress my toon due to an impossible instance such as DD that no one seems to be able to beat as of book 8. Dont believe me? inspect everyones toon in game, most toons that raid are 5/6 always missing that "act of god to beat DD" helmet.
Question 3
Occasionally we offer ‘special’ items like the Writ of Passage or Unique Cloaks to our players. What kind of special items would you like to see in the future?
writ of passage was corny and not too effective. Unique cloaks are always cool especially if they have good stats to back them up. If not some of the designs are cool.
Also maybe special cloaks for amount of time playing the game, 1 year u get a cloak , 2 years u get a cloak , and so on. that way people can see how long youve been playing just by the type of cloak you are wearing.

Question 2
What does “end game” mean to you?
An outdated concept incorporated into min/maxing level based games that ruins the immersion and sandbox concepts much more appealing to long term growth and interest in a product (game).
Game(r)s seem to get into an arms race mentality regarding quest items and subsequently 'challenging' content that equates to merely 1) twitch play, 2) accumulating/having enough friends online in any given time and/or 3) yet more health/debuffs what have you on end bosses/minions.

house decorations that are interactable - UO had a great thing going with plants
more horses/ponies ^_^
books
musical instruments
bedrolls/tents

more hats! I love hats!
NPC for your house (hire a gardener... cook... maid...)

Question 1
Would you be interested in an item that would allow you to disable “monster-kill” XP for a fixed period of time?
I wouldn't use it, but I would support its inclusion.
I acknowledge that it would pull the team away from things I would use.
Question 2
What does “end game” mean to you?
For my play style, LotRO has no end game. I don't mean that in a positive way, but I'm content with things as they are.
I don't enjoy raids or PvP, the traditional "end game" content. My 60 still has plenty of quests she hasn't done (and I do them!), but the epics that were un-soloable at 40 are still un-soloable at 60, and there's even less chance of finding a group to do them.
Question 3
Occasionally we offer ‘special’ items like the Writ of Passage or Unique Cloaks to our players. What kind of special items would you like to see in the future?
More titles and cosmetic items that are available once, for a limited time, as a reward for participation in certain things. The "Master of Forgotten Lore" title is the best example. One-off horse, cloak, wallpaper, and dress textures are nice too. Don't bring them back again later, as occurs with the season festival items -- let them stand as markers of how long your character has been in Middle Earth, and what she's participated in.

Re: Tell the Community Team: July 10, 2009
Question 1
Would you be interested in an item that would allow you to disable “monster-kill” XP for a fixed period of time?
Yes, I would. I'm new to LotRo and sometimes while levelling I find I'm levelling a bit too fast for my liking. While I still finish off the quests, I end up doing a fairly large number of them when I'm three or more levels above the recommended level. And I do prefer to experience the quests at around the level they're designed for.
Question 2
What does “end game” mean to you?
I'm a 'WoW Refugee' – in WoW I levelled two toons to 80 and raided four nights a week, clearing everything from Karazhan to BT, and from Naxx to Sarth 3D. I left WoW when I realised that raiding was the only thing left in the game for me and my heart wasn't in it anymore. I guess I still see raiding the 'end game' – what you do when you've finished the rest of the content – but I wish it didn't have to be.
Question 3
Occasionally we offer ‘special’ items like the Writ of Passage or Unique Cloaks to our players. What kind of special items would you like to see in the future?
Mounts are always good. Armor/items that give your toon special visual effects or abilities (eg different dances) would be good as well.

"End game" means PvE content that is designed toward level 60 (or whatever the current level cap is) players. Most of the time this means group content, from 3- to 24-man instances. The game will only last as long as players have lots of content *after* they finish leveling; this is true no matter how casual or how hardcore the player lies on the spectrum.

Re: Tell the Community Team: July 10, 2009
1. Yes. Once my player does not need XP, sure. Or why not give XP for doing other things? Just making it to a place in Exploration for Deeds counts as a Deed but you receive no XP. Same goes for Crafts. You do earn Crafting points but no XP while Crafting. Why not? LOTRO should be more than a "hack and slash" game!
2. End of the Game? When the new Map areas Open up (Mirkwood and Rohan for example) Elves ought to be able to Earn a special Port to Mirkwood and Humans a Port to Rohan. Great Repuation Horses for both of those areas! To meet up with the Fellowship in Mordor would be great.
3. An Extra Pack Space for all of your characters would be perfect! A 6th pack that could hold the same amount as the first 5, same deal as the Writ of Passage, wow, that would be like Manna from Heaven! No one ever has enough storage space. Allowing Purchase of 2nd House would be nice! Same "family" group. Or reduced prices on Vault Space. Any and all of the above would be much appreciated and valuable!

Re: Tell the Community Team: July 10, 2009
1) More options is fine, but why kill mobs if you don't want exp.
2) I have personally played many Online games my two favorites were Everquest and Wow and this one. Pulling ideas from all of them can help in end game. Like in Everquest(longest game palyed for me 6yrs+) to get to the Plane of Time if I remmeber you had to complete instance quests (which were hard) to open it up. All online games though follow the same pattern, kill more mobs to get higher level to get better gear, even with expansions. Put in instances that are puzzles/mazes where you have to figure out how to beat the boss. Or one thing that was neat in WoW (the early years, later it was the same stuff over and over) was to open up an end game instance the whole server had to participate in an event for like a month just to open the zone up to use. We like tracked our progress, had to get crafting materials and the number to acheieve was insanely high proving not just one kinship/guild could do it. Could do something like that. Everquest had a system where you could improve your talent points for exp when you get higher level so you still did the instances and quests, to motivate you to keep ya going. So maybe add a system like that. However, I am completely new to the game and not sure what the "end game" now is like, but some of these ideas would be cool.
3) So many new players have come along it is great to reward those who have been here long enough, but maybe the newer players should reap some of the fun stuff/items too. Maybe a system where, you been in game 3 mos you get this item, 6mos, etc. And discounts on vendors would be neat or repairs, or I like the idea of Outfit items, people like to play dress up.

Question 1
Would you be interested in an item that would allow you to disable “monster-kill” XP for a fixed period of time?
I would not use it, but as most have said, its another option that some would use.
Question 2
What does “end game” mean to you?
End Game to me (and this I am assuming means level cap, not necessarily the end of LOTRO) means 3, 6, 12, 18, 24 man RAIDS.. This should not be ALL there is to do, but definitely a part of END GAME.. Put a decent MP experience in there and I think people will be happy. I am all for some "siege mechanic" Monster Play battles. MORE MP OPTIONS, NEW MP AREA!
Question 3
Occasionally we offer ‘special’ items like the Writ of Passage or Unique Cloaks to our players. What kind of special items would you like to see in the future?
I would like to see a unique pocket item for various classes offered. I would like to see more pocket items offered in the game period..

Not personally. I've yet to see the benefits for it. But if it doesn't change anything else and is valuable to others, then I don't see why it can't be offered.
Question 2
What does “end game” mean to you?
I don't think it should exist in an MMO :)
The LI's keep LOTRO going. I'd recommend taking a look at DarkCloud2 for ideas on weapon advancement and fishing. Both are fully fleshed out and very entertaining. As for the LI's you get such a small and finite number of possibilities, its not entertaining for long. I'm hoping more gems/runes/etc. are coming in future patches along with more options for the legacies and weapons. I'd like to spend more time fishing once major quest hubs are depleted, but there is no incentive (i.e. pole leveling for rare fish, bait and location for the right fish, rewards, etc.)
Question 3
Occasionally we offer ‘special’ items like the Writ of Passage or Unique Cloaks to our players. What kind of special items would you like to see in the future?
Do something about the star wars looking Moria mount :p (I think the population is now diverse enough that perks can be given to people beyond certain levels, instead of limiting it to something that EVERYONE has to be able to do)
Instead of giving the entire population the same cloak, how about making one for each race and class. (1 different template for each race and then make variations according to class). This means it would take 2 hobbit hunters crossing paths before the same cloak was spotted, etc.
