hmm... my guess is Sting.
a "cold hard" sword that frodo/bilbo used as a "protector" often.
It, at times, "preserved the ring-bearer" (Frodo,Bilbo) from the "former ring-wearer" Gollum. He was scared of the blade and respected its carrier hehe
And Sting saw lots of action, ("was struck") but never broke.

I would think the Ring is the answer to Sir Silverlocket's riddle, it was struck, but could not be marred, it was always cold, even when left in the hottest of fires, obviously extremely hard... It saved Bilbo from Gollum in the cave... If it is the Ring, good job! That was a good riddle, even if I think you might've put something in about the Ring's treachery, altho that might make it pretty easy.
So, uh, yeah, that's my guess.
ok im at home, my wife had an idea for silverlocket's riddle. If theoneringer's guess isnt right, my wife's/my new guess is Bilbo's mithril coat:) The ring bearer, Frodo, was protected by it from an otherwise fatal blow. And the line "From former ring wearer" means the coat was from the former ring wearer being Bilbo, and the "ring" he wore was the mithril rings the coat was made of haha:) ok ill look back on monday and see what the verdict is:)
I believe the mithril coat is the answer to that one. :)
That was my second guess, but it was never specifically described as, "being cold," so i didn't say. Everything fits the Ring really well, to me anyway....

You haven't told me if I guessed correctly yet. Did you not see my guess? If you haven't seen it yet, go back a couple pages until you do. If you have and it was wrong, my second guess is the barrow wight that imprisoned Frodo and the hobbits. Although that doesn't fit a bit of the riddle...

The answer is: Azog. Azog was the Orc "Lord" of Moria.

The part which probably stumped most of you, the
"The ringed-one now asleep,
His head filled with stuffing"
part reffers to when Azog beheaded King Thrór after he visited Khazad-dûm. Azog then took his head, stuffed it, and mounted it on his shield. The "ringed" part indicates that Thrór
was one of the bearers of the Seven Rings Of Power.
Ah, yes... that makes sense. I don't know why I didn't think of that; Azog is my very favorite Goblin King of Moria! T'was an excellent riddle! Keep them coming! I guess "till oak comes knocking" refers to Thorin Oakenshield? Although it was Dain Ironfoot who slew Azog.

was the shirt of mithril mail. The "Preserved ring-bearer from former ring-wearer" part was supposed to refer to the time when Saruman tried to stab Frodo after the Battle of Bywater.

Very good riddle JoeyJordenson! May we read many more from you in the future! I kept thinking "oak, oak, what could that be?" But all I could think of was an Ent, but that didn't fit.... As to the Mithril coat riddle, I thought the Ring fit it better, but I see your point about Saruman.
Alright, I've got a couple more riddles here. (hey, the1ringer: you saw on axesofthedwarves.com that I'd make up some dwarven riddles. I've realized that if I made dwarven riddles now, it would give you a great advantage at guessing them. So none of these are dwarven riddles! Ha! Or maybe both of them are dwarven riddles... but it's also very possible that only one of them is a dwarven riddle, and the other isn't.) Anyways, here they are.

Ever upward I climb,
Myself shadow and light passed through,
It seemed to take an endless time,

Well, I know the first one is Bombur, that is really easy. The second one is quite confusing, did light and shadow pass through the object of the riddle, or did it pass through light and shadow? Did the thing ever stop climbing, as the third line suggests, or did it really take an endless time? Did the light and shadow slay it, or the climb? With the answers to these questions, I might be able to figure it out.

About the second one, sorry guys, I had to make it confusing so it would rhyme. :p To answer your first question: "did light and shadow pass through the object of the riddle, or did it pass through light and shadow?" shadow and light passed through the object of the riddle, the object of the riddle did not pass through shadow and light. Next question: "Did the thing ever stop climbing, as the third line suggests, or did it really take an endless time?" As I said it "seemed" to take an endless time. The thing did stop climbing. Finally, "did they slay you or did you slay them?" The object of the riddle is the one that was slain. I hope this makes it easier for you guys!

Well, I agree with you accept for one thing: he was slain by the Balrog, which is one person, not multiple people, as in "Until at last I they slew" so I think it's referring to multiple enemies here.
Sorry, Gandalf is incorrect. As theoneringer said it was one person who slew Gandalf, not many. Also, shadow and light didn't really "pass through" Gandalf.
How about the Endless Stair/Durin's Tower in Moria?
Seems to climb up forever. Balrog (shadow) and Gandalf (light) pass through it (them) and in the battle atop the peak the tower/stairs are broken (slain). Am I close? I have to be close, tell me I'm close :
