One of my more recent finds I really liked was in Cliving where I got to play 'Detective' and help solve a crime. Really appealed to my inner Sherlock Holmes.

Even though we poke fun at the feckless Grey Company (ignoring that of course we know MUCH more than they do about the course of events they aren't directly involved in) I think that Volume of the Epic remains my favorite because it brings out the many, many allies that fought against the encroachment of Sauron.
Outmatched, underinformed, and sometimes reckless, they struggle to find their way. Knowing no one will probably know if they fall except their immediate companions.
Candaith made a brash decision. Then, he stood by the predictable (to anyone else) outcome of that decision.
That is good storytelling.
And I cry every damn time.
Yes, this was a traumatic event for me also. I'd been using his second-best bows for ages... I seem to recall zerging with other L15 baby hunters in pre-launch Brandywine to get 'em after we'd exhausted the possibilities of Thornley's bow. About the Oath-breakers, though... did they *really* serve Sauron? I don't remember that bit. I know they had been expected to serve the King and defaulted on that commitment, but I don't remember anything about serving Sauron.Quote:

I'm currently levelling an alt through Mirkwood, and I've come across a storyline that I've really enjoyed in the past - the Audaghaim chain, involving the shades and the story of the way in which they pledged their allegiance to Sauron. In a region which, to me, seems to be more about the 'kill x, collect x', Audaghaim stands out :)
I'd love buy a beer for whomever it was that wrote the text for the level 50 Guardian Quest.
You know, there one where Sam says some dwarf misheard when he was talking about being a master Gardener, not Guardian. That was a good way to use Sam for the quest's purpose. Before that point in time I thought it was very odd to have Sam as the Guardian Icon, since he really hadn't done much of it between Bag End and Rivendell.
So without Sam acting out a place at that moment, somebody came up with a good "funny". I loved it.

In the Shire I actually remember the quest with the one Hobbit, who is taken (accidentally) to Isengard and back again, the most. It's actually the first Hobbit who was taken to Isengard, so Legolas is somehow getting lame with his quote in the Two Towers. ;) But however I really likes the outcome of this quest chain just because it's somehow funny to think about it.
And also he has been there before all the HtoI-runs. ;)
The quest is Took and a Tower. You can look here in lotro-wiki for it. It's the final quest of a quest chain in the Green Hill country.

I just completed the Huntsman storyline in Enedwaith again and it's even better than I remember it from the first time. (I rushed some of it that time, due to having trouble with the flickering critters when playing as a hunter.) Definitely one should read the quest text.
So often I hear that "Tolkien is taken from the Norse mythology" ok, maybe some of it.... but not all of it. There's significant Central European mythology there too. Some of it is similar to Norse, but not the same. I was lucky enough to have a Mythology class in high school and never stopped. Although I became a 'computer geek' my book reading was things like "Lost Tribes" and "Economies of Lost civilizations" and similar stuff. So when I saw art in Helm's Deep that reminded me of Tengrin mythology, I just stood before it, stunned for about 30 minutes interpreting it. I wondered whether it was taken from a book, or if someone knew enough about it to create it all-new. (The piece I'm talking about is behind a scroll table and between two of the trainers, I think Loremaster trainer is one of them on one side.. if you want to see it.)
My husband who's ahead of me in the story tells me there will be river spirits. Yeah, Central Europe to the core. Can't wait. I'm in no rush toward the end, I'm reading, looking at art, etc. I hope you are too. Drink it in, it's where the action is if you can see it. This game is like a museum.

I was moved when I saw this particular video because in Bulgaria I know they still tie red and white ribbons to trees today in a spring ceremony, maybe a hint of where some of these people have migrated, or how far the shamans travelled. In other places you can find various stories of the world tree with Middle Earth between upper and under worlds. Often even some kind of messenger being that travels the tree. That cosmology is not unique to the Norse or Scandinavian, but it's best known from there. You're right that Tengrin is a bad keyword for the internet. I didn't realize how bad it was.

This article talks about how the world tree idea may have formed.. with the frozen cold (northern) underworld being downstream from the warmer upper world, assuming you accept the source to be the birds and rivers imagery. I see much of this as just overlays one can place if one wants onto the symbolism. What you get out of it is probably epigenetic anyway. (OK I know that is googleable.) As I've said elsewhere, games like these are living fairy tales, it's what makes them so precious to me. Yeah I play them for fun, but if there's a good story too, that's priceless. Art and story are so often interwoven.

I switch to moving with the keyboard from my usual habit of moving with the mouse, tag them from a distance and click the skill. The skill has some spatial tolerance so it will fire even when you're a bit too off but in order to bump them towards the direction you desire you need to be pretty accurate :)Quote:

No one has mentioned Gun Ain storyline? It was intresting to see storyline from normal region quest to be continued in epic storyline. But I wonder how those feel that haven't brought Angmar and just jump into story in the middle?
