Oooh, edgy, Annatar! :) I hope you'll forgive me, I tried to soften the definitions a bit to make them a little more light and cheery to read. I got the Old Timers (went with your alternate name, which is awesome) and Crows in, but stopped just short of Old Crows because I realized they're a marriage of the two others...and there are literally scores or even hundreds of additions to make once we start mingling the categories with each other. :) Thanks for the new types!

lol Epic! But wouldn't the Professors be much like the Tutors? Or is it more in terms with how technical they get, with Tutors putting it in layman's terms and Professors speaking in Latin or Greek or something like that?

Ha! I saw the Professors as being kind of like the Thorough, but more technical! Maybe the difference between them and the Tutors is in motivation: Tutors live to help others, while Professors live for the thrill of understanding something completely. In the end, we all benefit from both, though.

I know what you mean! I remember years ago having a conversation with a Professor in the hunter forums, and he kept saying stuff about the cosine of the derivative of the nth polynomial, and I would ask back, "so I should use pen shot after ISB?" and he'd sigh at me and spend two paragraphs explaining about the log rhythmic nature of the decimally repeating skill rotation, and I'd be like, "so I should use pen shot after ISB?" and we went on and on like that for two pages, he eventually blew me off and began responding to someone who could speak his language. :)


p.s. I still like to use pen shot after an ISB, I just don't know if it's the wise choice. hehe

ROTFL! I... I... just don't even know what else to say! That is just the funniest story! *busts a rib* And I can sooo relate! My older brother has an IQ of, like, a billion, and got a 34 on his ACT or whatever it was. He's one of those tech geeks with an amazing memory. NEVER EVER EVER ask him to help with math homework. He'll basically sigh and launch into a long explanation of, as you put it so well, how the cosine of the derivative of the nth polynomial... *headdesk*

lol yeah, some people are just...well, they're just Professors. :)

Interesting list. A couple of them gave me a good laugh!:p

"The Insider"- Often characterized by seeming to know something about a topic that they cannot admit to. May be known for citing obscure news sources to validate their claims, so as not to appear in violation of any NDA. Gets defensive if called a liar, because they believe they know the truth. Often can not be dissuaded.

"The Representive"- A council member who reads all, but is afraid to comment, for fear of letting anything slip out that they are not allowed to share.

A few categories that I've noticed:

The Statistician: able to take any number from any source to create graphs in pretty colors to prove a point. Any point. Often arguing completely opposing points with the same chart. As long as there are numbers, anything is possible.

The Programmer: knows absolutely everything there is to know about computers, internet, game development, coding, and everything else related to the technological side of the game. Posts tend to drift in and out of binary code, with frequent references to machines that existed before you were born. Frequently found in the Suggestions forum because they know exactly why anything you could every possibly want in the game can't be done, and tend to come out of hiding whenever there is unexpected downtime.

Mom: just wants everyone to follow the rules and be nice. Sometimes the peacemaker, sometimes the disciplinarian, always eager to show you where self-improvement is possible (after all, if we don't tell you, how will you know?). Now go wash out your mouth with soap and off to your room!



Personally, 4 parts Disillusioned and 1 part Mom. But my title says The Wise, so I'll go with that. :)

Thanks, guys! The Insiders are a lot like Turbine Team Wannabes, not sure there's a real distinction I can make there. I like the Representatives, but need to change the name because the word "representative" and what we're told about the PC do not square...I'll call them the NDA'd, maybe. ;) I LOVE the Moms, they're definitely going in! On the Statisticians and Programmers, how do we distinguish them from The Professors? Thanks again, you two. :)

To me the Team Wannabes seem more like 'unofficial moderators' than anything else, but maybe that's just me.

...Yeah, I wasn't too keen on Representives, but I didn't want to shoehorn it into just 'Chancellors'.. The NDA'd has the virtue of covering.. more than one Lotro focus group, so that'd work!

Hmm, maybe the Professors, as in real academia, have specializations? In the same general field I was also recently observing the Economists, who seem to have particular knowledge of financial dealings of gaming companies and enjoy Thorough posts about profits, revenue, business models, and related topics. Closely related to the Statisticians, they walk a fine line between the Professors and the Tinfoil Hats. Where does the truth lie? Only The Wise really know. :)

lol, nice, you could start an entire sub-category based just on the Professors, you already have 3 or 4 academic fields of study put together! :)

LOL, I love it. I'm usually a lurker/casual who stalks the dev tracker, but fit a few other catagories depending on the day of the week, the topic and degree of the angle of sun shining in the window (usually because it is coming back up after I realize I spent another night reading the forums). I used to be a worker reader, but they blocked gaming sites at work. (How dare they!!! It's like they think I am there to actually do work or something.)

I think I'm both the casual and the worker. Definitely a worker. I thought I might be a professional because of my high post count but a lot of my posts are longer than 5 words lol.

So that definitely makes you a Professional! It's just that you're not a Hall of Famer, because you use more than 5 words per post :) And once you are a Professional, you're probably no longer a casual. So you're a Worker - Professional. That's a nice combination to be! :)

I usually have the forums open on one of my monitors while I am working, but I only tend to look as 8 or 9 forums.

Yeah, the guy who invented the Worker category, Mcflyvii, said something similar about himself at work. But he was a lurker (something like 120 posts over six or seven years); at over 5,000 posts, you are definitely no lurker, haha!
