Thre are a number of factors involved. Also, to be very clear, this is not solely to discourage spammers. There are those who feel the need to create alternate accounts to violate the community guidelines and, they hope, avoid detection and consequences. This restricts them as well.Quote:

Hello everyone! I just started playing this game a few days ago, I created a character on the Snowbourn server, and I just went to that server forum to try to post and the new thread button isn't available. Do I need a certain post count before posting in server forums?
Also I am level 22 now and I have yet to see any other real players running around, so far over the last few days I have the feeling like I am playing a single player game, which server is the most populated?

I am older VIP player but just started using forums and have the same issue. Admins explained that after your first post timer is unlocked and in some time (they did not define what time or how active you have to be on forums) you will be able to post on all forums. Let's see how long does it take.
Regarding servers - Brandywine is by consensus most active server, Laurelin/Landroval are quite active being RP servers and all. And also Gladden might be active as it is on top currently when you are trying to log in.
Thanks for the reply. Hopefully I will be able to post inside my servers forum very soon. Looking to meet other players on my server but it makes it hard not being able to post threads there.
Keep in mind, this is the way LotRO's quest structure is. (Almost) All quests are one-and-done (not-repeatable).
So, you simply go to a quest hub, do the quests, then move onto the next quest hub.
Thus, as you quest in the wilds, it's not unusual to not see others questing near you as they are likely either behind of you or ahead of you.

Just would be interesting to know what are the factors and the length of being in forum purgatory. I am sure that Turbine wouldn't count number of posts as it some of these widely available forums would be spammed by newbies :D
Turbine is being deliberately mysterious about this. If they told us what it takes to get past the restriction, then the spammers would do that thing and they'd be all over the place again. Nowadays we just have to deal with them here in the New Player forum.Quote:

Kudos to the OP for remaining calm, but for every one of him/her are ten more players who give up feeling mildly annoyed or snubbed, and never connect to the community, unable to participate in discussions or class forums to ask questions, etc., which means they are more likely to drift away and give Turbine nothing. They really need a big red warning at the top of the forum--or something. Have to agree that SWTOR is worse though.Quote:

Is there any difference once you have passed the restriction between account types on the forums?
It's not so much as being locked out of the forums mysteriously so much as the fact that they have restrictions in place the moment they create their account, regardless of whether or not they've paid money. And while $15 for a month's sub with SWTOR seems like a big pill to swallow for a griefer, the SWTOR forums do actually receive those griefers who feel it is worth their money to post nasty things on those forums. To be very honest, the inconvenience is very minor.
