This.
It would be a reasonable bonus to help mitigate the disappointment from the EU, NZ and AU players.
Edit: And transfers across the original two hemispheres should be opened up both directions between all 10 servers!

April fools day here already? If anything, things are going get worse. I speak from experience
When I see how they did switch from Boston to New Jersey I don't want to think what would be like when they try to move to Amsterdam. We can only hope they will make significant improvements with this NJ datacentar. Sadly, with Turbine history - I can't see that happening.
There were some info before that datacentar in Amsterdam is just like datacentar in NJ - they are property of WB. Maybe it is not cost effective or they just don't have manpower and knowledge to make that move.
With information that Turbine is going to make Game of Thrones Mobile game and pleanty of other mobile games I think that LOTRO and other "old" stuff Turbine made is just going to linger around as long as there is some profit for WB...
Good thing Black Desert is out next week, goodbye Turbine, disappointed, but not unexpected.
Inferring you didn't know how your service worked! I'm not sure how you can take credit for cutting San Jose out of my route from the UK but this early improvement has done nothing to address game lag. Unless you are announcing a dedicated pipe that you've been laying across the Atlantic this last year there is no possible way that European Players are best served by a NJ datacentre rather than an Amsterdam one other than your inability to run one let alone two or you didn't want a comparison of two sites that might run differently.
The move was expected to improve performance. It didn't. The game does not report undue packet loss when the game lags, only when we log into game, are you saying it's been changed to misreport? Is the Latency reporting off too? Is the problem the routers/servers that are unresponsive to pings/tracerts?
I welcome some optimisation. Will it be applied to the PvE game also or does it involve just a degrade of PvMP map areas? I would hope it addresses the increases to the load on client and server introduced since Rohan release and piled on ever since. How is the game so flaky that it takes so much time to configure?
A middle finger would have sufficed. Demolition?
"This is expected to improve", "also looking into", "we hope will lessen the strain", "should improve", "work... to improve" so this has been with the lawyers for the last month, that explains the delay!
Mac
I didn't say it was set and ready to go. Turbine said at some point that we would have two server clusters, one in NJ and the other in Amsterdam. But that was months before the actual move to NJ, so in that time gap Turbine realised it was not a good investment and/or whatever caused them to not go through that route.
I think it's possible that Turbine was thinking in moving to Amsterdam until the new servers in NJ caused the problems we know. When that happened I think it was the breaking point at which Turbine determined the move wouldn't be worth the benefits.
Note that these are purely my opinions, I have no real clue on what Turbine thought and think about this "move to Amsterdam" situation.
Nope, Turbine are corrupt, just not as corrupt as your brokerage house, they are also incompetent liars.
Sadly, like a fool, I fell for the EU datacenter lie and purchased TP in the pre-xmas sale (as a lifetimer I didn't need to spend anything). Well this decision and the appalling way it has been handled has ensured that it was the last money Turbine ever get from me.
I am sure that Turbine from beginning never planned to move servers to Amsterdam. That's really bad.
I am not a raider and I am also not an Etten guy. But even the normal login takes for me much much longer. The black window at the begin of a login takes now minutes rather a few seconds before the server move. I have no idea, why, but I observe this since the server move consistently for all three VIP accounts. Even moving items from inventory to the bank became very time consuming. Lags in West Rohan and Gondor became much more noticeable compared to the time before the move to New Jersey.
I'm so glad that I abandoned the US servers I was playing on and started fresh on EU servers last year. Equally glad I bought a 2 month GTC 2 weeks ago. Bah.
I've yet to see any evidence that anyone from Turbine "lied" or was "corrupt" or intended to give players the middle finger. Frustration is causing a lot of hyperbole in this thread.
This is just another example of Turbine not being able to deliver on its promises, despite the best of intentions.
As I've said before, the proper way to read any statement about the future from Turbine is as an indication of their intentions at that time. It's not a promise, and it's not set in stone. If circumstances change, their plans can change. Their only culpability is in not making it clear that it's not a promise, and in waiting too long to advise players of their change of plan. I have no reason to believe that Turbine has ever been dishonest about their intentions at any given time. (Although not telling players about a change of plan is on the border of dishonesty. I would prefer for Vyvyanne to explicitly state that the current plan is to never move any servers to Amsterdam, rather than leaving open the tantalizing possibility that it might happen in the future. Surely such an admission at this point wouldn't piss off players any more than the above announcement already has.)
I hate it when people lie and dont do as told we would have servers in amsterdam , the game is unplayabalelag in minas thirit lag in ettens as you wont believe lag on skils and now turbine said its all ok BULL yes i,m typing bull because it is fix the game and keep your promises
Oh, come on. They might as well stop releasing any announcements as all, as those are clearly not worth anything. I'm leaning toward thinking that they never intended to move to the EU at all; that was just intended to lure people to come back/start playing, and then to put up with the bad performance due to the NJ move.
What kind of optimizations? Could you please talk to us a bit about this? Is this a coding sort of thing, or are we going to see a reduction in the amount of buffs and debuffs? Specifically starting with the zone-specific buffs in Out Posts, Keeps, and Delving Bosses.
When you say there's going to be optimizations, could you talk to us about what came out of your investigations? What has been causing the problems that you are going to optimize?
I am leaving this game for now.. I was really happy as an EU player when it was announced. I went back to the game, even bought VIP to start level on EU server. Then this. Now i will cancel my sub..
Simple solution - ALL EU PLAYERS CANCEL SUB AND CONTINUE AS PREMIUM, MONEY IS THE ONLY THING TURBINE UNDERSTAND.
The false announcement, many months ago, about the EU servers being moved to Amsterdam was responsible for the break-up of my kinship. We were a group of EU-based players playing on US servers (back before the merges, when PvP action on all EU servers was pretty poor). The announcement caused a good few players to go back to the EU servers, because they thought that eventually the server move would benefit them and grant much improved performance. I always had a suspicion this would fail to materialise and stayed on the US servers.
I understand that a huge number of people are going to feel angry and let-down by today's announcement, even though the complete radio-silence on the matter previously had already convinced anyone with half a brain that the move was off. That said, I do actually believe that this is in the game's best interests. LOTRO is a game in its twilight years, and has very little in funding and developer time compared to other MMO titles. I for one would much rather see these resources put into improving the horrendously unoptimised game-engine and server-side problems. In reality, moving the servers to EU, gaining players a slightly improved ping time, would have solved nothing.
I will be cutting back my LOTRO playtime and exploring other titles, but I am looking forward now to u18 and the improvements it may bring to game performance, especially in PvP.
Of course plans change (and quite a few of us came to the conclusion that the EU data centre plans were no more a while back), but given this thread one would have thought that Turbine would have responded sooner and not keep the community spinning for as long as possible:
