Yeah thats it. Still get it on every alt. Just been a while since I got one through Moria. Thanks for the correction

While I also generally disliked the brighter version of Moria I can understand that it does a much better job of showing off the fantastic world building done within each of the zones which can otherwise get lost within the gloom.
I do hope they never change the Moria maps... just good enough to be useful, but not so good that they arent confusing! Exactly as they should be. Well done map designer!
And if book Lotr was oriented the way Lotro was, then Frodo would have been in Isengard in 3 hours on foot or insta fast horse from south Bree into Mordor.
Direct comparisons don't and won't always work. Something has to be practical for a game. You can't have a quest in Bree which says "go and see the last homely house" and then make a player take 2 weeks to get there!
The Epic quest to find the bottom of the well, usually ends in death if you jump. Granted, the death then puts you in the Waterworks, and the bottom of the well is closer. I've taken one or two to find it on foot, but most will just jump. Jumping off cliffs is a form of fast travel in Moria, as depending on where you jump, you can dictate which rez circle you will arrive in :)
@ OP. Moria doesn't hold much feeling of depth in the early zones IMO, but it does as you approach the Southern end, and the Fanged Pit has a great sense of depth.
It's tricky

"I don't know how you'll get to the bottom safely, but you should find a way down to the Waterworks and then look for Narag-kheleb, the bottom of the well. I expect you will find it southwest of the mighty aqueduct in the depths. Don't jump down the well itself, though, unless you think you could fall for uncounted fathoms and land alive on your feet."
A very case of "don't do it" :D
They changed this many years ago now. They made it so that you always die in free fall. (although there is always an exception)
I can't remember why they did it as it used to be a fun rite of passage when your group jumped and you were one of the survivors.
I guess it was something trivial like not allowing it as too much of a short cut to the vile maw in the days previous to the instance join mech.
Oh ... happy memories.... anyone who died in the fall had to hand around food and tokens to the rest of the group :D
I got saved by lag a couple of weeks ago.
For years I've taken new alts through the same routine: run into Chamber of the Crossroads, right click stablemaster, run to well, and jump in. A couple weeks ago I did my usual but lag caused me to turn wrong heading into the well. Went in and hit that ledge. Walked off the ledge and made it to the bottom in one piece.
