I can recommend GW2. Especially if you are running Linux, I can tell that the client works fantastically with Wine (unlike ESO, at least). Compared to lotro, there are few drawbacks. First, of course, GW2 lore is nothing to be even closely compared to LotR or to ESO, and in the main quest line, the first and oldest quests feel pretty poor - it gets better later, but anyways, story and lore is not its best parts. Even if it has pretty good UX at some things, in some things GW2 is pretty clumpsy: for example, build swapping is so tedious that many players make several toons with same class, just because it is easier to switch toon than a build; the plugin/addon system is non-existent and thus it has been playground to all sorts of dirty hacks, some of them leading you to get banned if you get caught.
But in many other fronts it is great game. I personally like the fighting there, especially PvP side fights.
I came to lotro with Oblivion-Skyrim background, so I think that for me ESO would suit very well. Sadly I cant get it working with my setup. And cannot even try to solve the problems, because you need to pay to get access to it.
This I totally agree. I miss my time with lotro. It has had very moemrable moments, lots of things to do. But I can't come back before certain things (which I have repeated like years) will change.
