this is something your team should have taken into consideration the first time, not after the fact.

Yeah, this is the part that smells a little bit.
And judging from what's come out in the last few weeks, either there are a LOT of very eager "short cut" spenders...or this company has become VERY good at cash temptation.
Or maybe both.
Ah well...to each their own.
While I have very little respect for SSG and how they've chosen to monetize the game, I personally agree with them on this. I wish they implemented far more of these, even if only to teach the OCD and the 'I want it all and I want it now' crowd.
The fact that the store offers ways to reset the quests though... that's always going to leave a sting and one can't help but question their good intentions... and whether it needs to be implemented through such a grindy daily instead of an elaborate quest chain.. well. It's what we've come to expect in this genre, however sad that may be.
Well I certainly agree that Bingo was a roaring success. You hadda wait. It was like waiting for the next episode of The Mandalorian. Except you hadda wait longer. Weekly episodes of "Bingo" type chains would be something I would pay for. Unfortunately, I suspect that the coding would take much longer than the writing. And I don't think SSG has the assets of Disney. Grin.
(Now if Disney were to buy SSG.....)
Aren't there dozens of festival-related deeds that award cosmetic items that are intended to be done over several years (specifically, the "use 300 X and get a permanent X" deeds)? Why is it surprising that SSG added one more?
You're missing the point. It's not so much that they have added content that can span more than one festival, it's the whole - we want it to last longer, but hey, buy this to make it not work as intended - thing.
Those use 300 consumable items are not a good comparison. It's possible to purchase 300, with just 300 tokens, which can be earned at the rate of about 60 per day in Frostbluff alone (discounting snowball fights). So five days to collect each of the items involved and about 2.5 hours to consume them all. Less than a week.
If they really want this new thing to last, then take off the short cut. Job done.
That is exactly how all 'buying the shortcut' mechanics work, though, isn't it?
Leveling is "intended" to be going from 1 to 130 through all the numbers in-between.
Travel to a quest location is "intended" to be through walking, riding, etc.
People can mithril-shortcut their way around daily deed limits. They can get more than one hobbit gift a day.
There being a shortcut to the reward here does not mean everyone has to use it. It just means if you see someone with the reward now, *that* person definitely used it. Unless that reward is something game-breaking, I think the only thing stopping the rest of us from waiting until we can get the reward the "intended" way is willpower.
It's exactly how all "buying the shortcut" mechanics work, and we have an ocean full of them in the game already. We don't need one more added to a festival, especially a festival that is usually, until this new thing, centred around good will.
Having a ton of bugs in the bed, doesn't mean we should welcome more.
Cordovan has stated, that this has been "added" (which means is a new thing, not like the other usual things like it throughout the game) to give the players looking for longer term activity to work for. It kinda doesn't work when you add a bypass to it. It fundamentally changes the concept of "longer term".
How is this different, though? Why should *I* care if someone else wants to spend money to speed it up?
Now, if you want to say the game should get rid of all mechanics like that and go back to making money other ways, ok. I would disagree, but at least it would be consistent.
As for Yule being centered around good will, some of the questline would disagree with that (although yes, it is presented as good and bad choices), and we already have the deeds for event mounts that can't be completed without spending mithril unless you happened to get all mounts on all characters over the years.
So yes, some of it might be problematic in general, but this is in line with how things work now.
I still think a good solution here would be to have the deed done in stages. Give some points for stage 1 and 2, then the final reward at the end of 3. So some can be done each year with a reward and some progress.
You just trying to find black cat in dark room. No one force you to monetize this one. I don't see anyone from SSG force you complete that deed in current festival.
Yup, you're right, nobody is forced, but that isn't the point. Nobody is forced to buy a key to open a lootbox either, but hey. No black cat searching going on here - just feedback, which I would hope - is welcomed by the people that count. If the "intent" is to prolong content, then prolong it. Period. No shortcuts.
far as my memory goes isnt at all unusual to have not able complete during original festival deeds then we had encores or a leave it out of mind till the next one or if completionist pay and do
to much placed on must do now his moment has always been a long game
Yes, but you have to *buy* the items. And to be able to *afford* the items, you typically have to spend 3-5 tokens on one, during a festival. So, what, 900 festival tokens to get enough for just one deed. And Holloween festival has 6 or 7 of those deeds all by itself, so that's, say, 5,400 token's worth of stuff to buy in one festival. I challenge you to do that in the space of one festival without using MC to reset all the festival quests.
I can't do missions yet, but I think its fine as is being that its intended be over more then one yule festival, except one thing, the Mithril Coin reset has to go if the intention is have it be done over time of a few festivals.
Nope, your math is off. In the yule festival, the cost of the consumables is 5 yule tokens, per 5 consumable items, so, 1 token per item and 300 needed for the deed. In Havestmath, the cost is different, 3 tokens for 5 consumable items, so 180 tokens.
And nobody here is talking about finishing 7 deeds in one round of festival, they are talking about finishing one, a single deed. Every consumable deed (stand alone, as in one, single) is able to be completed during a single festival.
Ah, figured there was a chance the math was off. Nice to know they're a bit more practical than they looked on the surface, though my impression of them still remains that they are clearly designed to be done over the course of several festivals, so I am not seeing an issue with one more deed along a similar line. That, in particular, is feedback for SSG, since Cordovan is looking in.
IMHO, they more stuff what can be done during festival, more cool and greater things we can get. Doesn't matter if it takes 1, 2 or 5 years, more content means just more fun. People who crying about monetization and imagine in anything, almost anything in the game way to use mithril coins, just boring, sad and don't want to have fun
I am not a fan of needing to wait several years to finish a deed or quest, neither willing to spent Mithril coins or LP on finishing a quest. There are many things im willing to pay it (like more house decoration slots or the race change token) but this is not one. :p
Skipping any dramatic response, I will simply state that the last deed/quest I did that took more than one season was the old Black Mushroom pot, where you planted in Spring and harvested in Fall.
I'm not against the mechanic in general as there may be people who enjoy that. It's just not for me.
