Re: Hidden Nuggets we see all the time...
It's already been mentioned that the Ronald Dwaling line of quests in Evendim refer to Tolkien lore like the lead dog, etc. While doing the quest chain one of the things he asks you to do is find the missing first page of his new book. Well just on a hunch I looked at the page in my inventory after finding it and right clicked it to use. The first line of Ronald's book is "In a Hole in the ground there lived a boar" Then in red he adds "No, no thats not right!" The first line in "The Hobbit" is "In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit." I took a screen shot of it but Havent uploaded it to a hosting site yet.

A lot gets missed when folk don't read the readables. :D

I wish some indication was made when such an item was obtained. I don't know how many text items I discarded or surrendered without reading because I didn't even know it was possible.
Even now that I know there are readable items out there, the fact is that many quest items that could be made readable are not - so often I find myself out of the habit of checking whether or not I can read the item.
Personally, I wouldn't mind an option to enable an "automatic read" - such that whenever a readable item is obtained, it is automatically and immediately presented to the player.

Oh. Well I read that wrong then. I think it's funnier my way.

Here's one that needs no translation. I'm in the habit of taking a screenshot when I ding a level (in The Game That Shall Not Be Mentioned I had an add-on that did this automatically :(). It helps me see the course of my character progression, as my memory is not what I'd like it to be. If I know I'm close to the ding, I'll have my finger poised to pounce the print screen button & I try to get the pretty swirl effect, so it's immediately clear why I took the shot. A split-second slow and I got this shot when my little hobbit dinged 13 back in April:

I've gotten the ding circle on my woman hunter three times. Here are the best two, if anyone (/poke Judiah) would care to translate:

Never managed to time it right on elf or dwarf.
PS -- All this wonderfulness & my hubby went back to his paladin in that other game because "there's not as much humor in LotRO".

I was just browsing through this thread for the first time in a while, and not to be pedantic (heh) or off-topic, but the stars move in relation to each other. This means that tens or hundreds of thousands of years ago, the constellations that are made up of stars that are relatively close to us would look completely different to how they appear now.
In fact, the five "middle" stars of the main brightest part of the Big Dipper (handle and bucket) are part of an open cluster that is in the process of catching up to our solar system and, iirc, will pass us in about 10,000 years.
On topic: Is it just me, or has anybody else noticed that some of the higher level Orcs, Blogmals in particular, say the name 'Saruman' when they are fighting us?

Only the White Hand Orcs should do this, so if Blogmals are saying this, it should be bugged.

You are misremembering the time scales involved by several magnitudes, actually. Depending on the constellation they will have looked much the same even tens of thousands of years ago.
This great site gives you a quick and easy way to see the changes (look for the Distant Worlds Star Mapper). Taking for example the Big Dipper, going ten thousand years backwards or forwards in time gives little difference in look. 26000 years back (the time it takes for orbital procession to bring back Polaris as the north star) makes a change that few would notice, and even 100,000 years ago the constellation had that characteristic "dipper" or "wagon" shape.

Heh, got one! Yay for me! lol
Anyways, I haven't fought a White-Hand anything in months...next time I log in I will head to Angmar and see if I can duplicate it...I am sure I was in East Malenhad, just to the east of the line of Watchers.

How come we don't get a sticky? This is a great thread, and it's been going strong for 6 weeks & 35 pages. What gives? The Rejected Cloak designs thread is less than a month old & only 27 pages, and it got stickied. Can you help us out here, Berephon? Please? Pretty please?

If you keep an eye on your inventory while doing quests, you'll notice when the readables appear in your inventory. As far as I can recall, the ones with a green background are just static quest items that you have to turn in to someone, but the ones with a gold/yellow background can actually be opened and read.

With all the spam this thread receives from the Dev Tracker, does it really need to be stickied? You can thank Berephon for most of that spam, too, by the way... :p

I haven't caught any of them saying "Saruman," but I could swear I have heard a couple yell "Snaga!", which is kinda weird, if you ask me.
Chances are that I just misheard it, though.

I honestly don't recall if any Orcs say this, but as Snaga is Orkish for "slave," who knows?

I am working on this, of course work work gets in the way *sigh*
The transliteration appears to be "gwalad a gwwarth" which doesn't really mean anything that I can tell, still working on it. It's hard to tell what the vowels are (they are indicated by the little marks above the letters, which is hard to see clearly).. Occasionally I've seen tengwar that is gibberish, they may have expected noone to actually get a screenshot and/or care :)

No, I have heard this too, and just thought it was a reference to one of the Orcs that captures Merry and Pippin when the Fellowship breaks, though I may be making an error on the spelling.
The only reason I brought the issue up was that I thought it was wierd for an orc that wasn't a White-Hand to be using the name Saruman, and Berephon's initial response to my post backs that up.
FWIW, I haven't been able to reproduce the 'Saruman' call, so I may have been too deep into the Absolut that night.

Re: Hidden Nuggets we see all the time...
Definitely sounds to me like some orcs - big Dol Dinen ones IIRC but may be elsewhere I have been recently such as Eastern Malenhad area - say "Sa Ru Man" in battle. Have heard it on multiple occassions.

Take your time, I'm a patient person (sometimes). :D
And...
Yay! We're stickied again! Thanks, Berephon!

I fought a couple orcs in Gorothlad last night, and I distinctly remember one of the fat ones saying "blah blah snaga!" Not sure what the "blah blah" actually was, but "snaga" was definitely in there. It'd be nice to have a list of all the little nuggets that our enemies scream at us.

Re: Hidden Nuggets we see all the time...
I have read through the majority of this thread and I might have missed it...if so, I apologize.
Could someone tell me what the translation is for the words on your combat target circle?
I'm not sure of the "official" name for it...*chuckles*...but there are words written on the ring around your target's feet, while you are in combat.

Yes it's been mentioned a couple of times ;)
dhe hwun that is chosen
Or "The One That Is Chosen"
I've got a few translations here once I get a few more done (including the level up circle, if possible) I'm going to add some more to that thread.

Cool! Thanks, now we just have to find out what it changes to when in combat. :D
