I think You've succeeded very well. *claps* Well done !!!
Yes with Stout Axes we have finally gotten a more closed metal helmet (not totally closed but still) than the usual open in the front ones. One of the few reasons I wanted Stout-axes to get my hand on that hlmet as well as their axe. However that one detail that sticks out on the top of the helmet still annoys me. It reminds me of one of those German/Preussan early WWI helmets almost, a relic that survived from the 1800's military design I guess. That detail sticking up looks more like something You'd see on a parade or ceremonial outfit than in acctual combat.

The Germans quickly replaced it for combat too during WWI with the more practical M16 Stahlhelm (model 16) more protecting design, that then was in use (even if modified like the m35 m40 etc) for a long time and even inspired later helmet designs.
For some reason Turbine and now SSG chose to put such things on top of quite a few helmets. They would be totally unpractical in sword or axe fight as it would be easy to swing at it and make the helmet either fall off, or at the very least be very uncomfortable around the neck strap if anyone did hit that sticking up piece with a very hard blow. Potentially dislocate the helmet and cover the sight too. Not a thing You'd want to happen in combat. I do get it on parade or even ceremonial, like the winged helmet of the Minas Tirith Fountain Guards. But as pratical in combat for the common soldier, naaa, but oh well I digress.
I would much prefer more helmets like this in the game.

Well You get the idea.
We have some designs like that in LoTRO, but often they made the part covering the eyes in some weird dye and more look like some Venecian carnival mask than acctual helmet face protection. Over designed in my opinion, ruining the helmets looks.
I'm not saying helmets in real life history were never overly designed and had things sticking up and all kinds of ornaments etc. Especially as parade outfits or for ceremonial use. Royal Guards etc. Sometimes to emphasis rank or status, but the most common soldiers did not have that as often, even if sometimes they did. Even things that served no partical function than to simply signify a certain rank, regiment or just be decorative. Sometimes it can even look very pretty in my opinion, but not all the time and it should be more common with not so decorative helmets, as the common figher or soldier probably could not afford it. Just as it was with the colour "purple" in history, as it was way to rare and expensive to produce from a snail/mollusc, only the most wealthy wore it and in some places not even allowed for anyone else.
If SSG could also revisit some of the old designs and improve them, like I really like that shield but for the part that it's like a octagon almost and not round. I understand that it's easier to not design rounded edges and instead make more sharp edges, especially back in 2007, but nowdays it looks outdated. Turbine/SSG have designed shields later than that that are more round in shape but still not this one that I would have liked alot if it was only more round. If some like this octagon shape on a shield, then design another one that looks the same, wood and iron cross and all, just make it round.
All that being said (and non of it being negative criticism of your combination), I do think You have come up with a very nice result. I much prefer this to say colourful over designed outfits. Bravo !!! *thumbs up*
