Re: ALES & TALES (every Monday!)
Dwarven bump...
This week's Ales and Tales is being held in Edhelion
From the Lorebook:
Hundreds of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings, the Elves of Lindon founded a refuge upon the slopes of Ered Luin, where wood for the White Ships was gathered and elven wine was made. Edhelion, it was called, and it was a place of contemplation and peace...until Skorgrím Dourhand, an evil Dwarf-lord descended from the kings who once ruled the long-ruined kingdoms of the Blue Mountains, led his people, allied with goblins and trolls, against this elven refuge.
Talagan Silvertongue, the Master of Edhelion, sacrificed himself to defeat Skorgrím, but Edhelion was abandoned in respect for its many fallen defenders. The Elves removed themselves to the foothills of Ered Luin and founded a new refuge, Duillond, nearer to the elven port of Celondim, which ferried the wood gathered in the mountains down the river Lhûn to Mithlond, the Grey Havens. The Elves of Duillond lived in relative peace with the dwarves of Durin's line who had followed Thráin and Thorin into exile in the Blue Mountains, but now tensions between Elf and Dwarf is rising once more.

Re: ALES & TALES (every Monday!)
And this will be the last Ales and Tales before the "gulp" change. Excitements and Laments. It may be the most interesting one of all. Free drink and smoke to sooth your pontifications.

Re: ALES & TALES (every Monday!)
The last Ales and Tales before F2P comes is history! A large crowd! the mood was some subdued, but Rohans ale lifted a lot of spirits! Ash played a song about not leaving Landroval that made Tinki cry. but we are all preparing in our own ways to face the unknown. Another good evening!

Yes a historic Ales and Tales indeed. Do not fret though Tinki we will face the unknown together on Landroval!
And thank you for the ales, i finally made room for them!

Re: ALES & TALES (every Monday!)
Ales and Tales in Combe today! Nibbles and Nobs at the Comb and Wattle inn. Make sure to /join channel alesandtales in case there are any hiccups with layering. We will use that channel to make sure everyone gets into the same layer.

Re: ALES & TALES (every Monday!)
I hope I can make it to this one, as I'm working late this evening and have been missing them because of that. Hopefully all goes well and there isn't too much of a problem with lag. I was playing a lowbie yesterday and around Combe and Staddle especially there was vast amounts of lag.

Re: ALES & TALES (every Monday!)
What a nite! Tinki came home drunker en a skunk! It seems she was preparing the refreshments and had a certain keg she couldnt get open. So she stood it on end and jumped up and down to loosen the lid. she fell through and according to her she had to drink her way out.
My apologies to all for her behavior! I understand from what coherence she could make that this was the BEST party ever in the history of Ales and tales. But she was pretty happy no matter what I suspect. thanks all who pitched in at the last moment! It was huge!

Re: ALES & TALES (every Monday!)
Side note. I think all would agree there was around 100 attending. Prior to the big party we were advertising heavily about fellowing to get into the right layer. I think maybe 10% of those who tried gave up. I read a lot of chat about it didnt work and dont know if several ever got in the right layer. I hate layering. Its no good for rp at all. and I think they better get more customization for it . A big event needs 3 or 4 people advertising to help gather unlayered toons. It is nothing but hectic to say the least. I was avertising in regional (promoting the event) and was swamped with tells "I am here but I cant see anything" style.

Re: ALES & TALES (every Monday!)
This is the first Ales and Tales I have attended in about two months... My summer was very hectic and I was happy to see the event going strong upon my return.
I attended in character as both Valaraein and Illuvarion but was unable to stay too very long — but the stories and music were wonderful and seeing both old friends and meeting new ones was delightful.
Things being as they are I think that it went very well — I had no problem getting into the right layer (thanks to members of the Lonely Mountain Band for being so well coordinated when it came to that!) and while that was a little bit of a hassle it wasn't too bad.

Re: ALES & TALES (every Monday!)
Thanks for everyone who showed up and put up with the layering. I think there is a little bit of a learning curve that the community will need to go through to deal with layering in these events. It didn't take me long to find the right layer, but I noticed a bunch of people milling around in the wrong layer when I first showed. As a new player, it would have been quite confusing. That said, it seemed like we did everything possible to quickly get players into the "party layer". I'm sure this will get more streamlined as people become used to it.
The performers were wonderful, and the crowd was a peach as well. There was some initial chaos as the crowd sorted itself out, and a few stray folks who didn't know they should hold their music during the event. But those stray musicians shut up quick under a barrage of /tells and the audience soon was respectful and participatory. So participatory that I had to shut off /emote at one point so my /say channel wouldn't scroll by like crazy. Apologies to any /em RPers I inadvertantly filtered out.
I was pretty impressed that we managed to pull off two extremely well synchronized line dances. I felt a little strange telling people they could buy the dance from the store, but that seemed an improvement from before where you were just out of luck if you showed up without knowing how to /dance_elf2. Remember, if you want to participate in group dances, its a good idea to come knowing /dance_elf and /dance_elf2 and /dance_dwarf. Dancing in the crowd can be done with /dance, /dance_hobbit, /dance_hobbit2, /dance_dwarf2, /dance_man2, and /dance_jig. Partner dancing is best with /dance_man, /dance_man2, /dance_elf2, and /dance_elf.
Hats off to the musicians who kept us supplied with dance music, with special thanks to EMS for their many dance tunes they provided. We had original songs by Macalaure and Ghingeriel, which was absolutely wonderful. Also, several tunes with lyrics, including a delightful song by Tarnorili. It did not involve frogs or logs.
Musical mentoring was bigger than it ever was, with many minstrels offering their mentoring services. This week, I streamlined the process a bit by just pairing up mentor and student before moving to the next player, rather than waiting for each player to get mentored. That method worked very efficiently, and there were many new players eager to learn an instrument.
And finally, thanks to the Lonely Mountain Band for getting the layering sorted quickly, and generally helping to keep the event flowing smoothly. Far apart, Never alone!

If you want to hear the frog on a log poem again you'll have to ask really nicely. I only bring that one out on very special occasions!
Ales and Tales is always good fun, even though at this one there were too many longshanks there for my liking! *chuckles*

Same here with filtering out emotes. Not that I am well known, but if I didn't recognize any "waves" or "bows", etc. directed toward me... I apologize.

Re: ALES & TALES (every Monday!)
Well, even though I've known about it for a long while now, last night was my very first time at Ales and Tales and it was so much fun! I wasn't able to stay very long, but what I did see was pretty impressive. It was a little overwhelming though with so many people there, but I'm really glad we managed to figure out the layering thing. That was also my first time joining a fellowship to switch layers and I didn't realize that it doesn't happen automatically - that you have to press the layer icon. So, thank you LMB for being so coordinated with that. I also want to thank everyone else for all the work they put into pulling this off every single week. Hopefully I'll be able to make it again next week.
By the way, that Blackberry Ale was no joke! Vatna had a mug of it and thought that might be the end of her night she got so drunk...but she pushed through the haze and came out the other side to enjoy a little more of the night.

Re: ALES & TALES (every Monday!)
I did find the 'Don't have elf_dance, go the store!' A bit discomforting. I cringed....twice :(
But the dancing was excellent!
Some silly dwarf performed some song. He wasn't memorable. BUT THE LYRICS!
Oh man! They were by Kaleigh. All that was worth remembering =p

Re: ALES & TALES (every Monday!)
Impressive! I haven't seen a RP crowd that big since the old Holowood events and the Nomad Markets on Starsider (SWG). And very organized too. Met some very nice folks, if in passing, but it was hard to really get to roleplay with any one person given how much seemed to be going on. It was like I was a tiny roleplaying baby and everywhere someone was jangling some keys. Sorry I had to leave early though.

Re: ALES & TALES (every Monday!)
This was yet another wonderful event! I was impressed with everyone's patience (especially Harperella's) and enthusiasm. The music was wonderful as always! I especially enjoyed Macalaure's enchanting original song and Tarnorili's lyrical ballad, proving that there are many layers to a dwarf, kind of like an onion (is that from Shrek?) and ...Bree!
I was so nervous about "singing," as I usually leave that to Dovie, that I forgot to tell Harperella I had a song to play! Fortunately she was kind enough to make room for me to sing my new hobbit song, "Regarding Hobbits," and Dovie and Lorenael were tremendously awesome staying up late to help!
After about 6 hours of attempted uploads, I finally manged to upload the song/movie to You Tube...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2sXueqTODk
Keep your eyes open for cameo appearances from a few of Landroval's lovely hobbit (and non-hobbit) community!

Re: ALES & TALES (every Monday!)
As always, Ales & Tales hit the spot. It's a great event to wind down and have fun on what usually is the worst day of the week.
It was a great turn out and I seen at least 2 new people awed by such a large gathering. I hope it continues to get better with the layering.

Re: ALES & TALES (every Monday!)
A wonderful event :)
And the layering seemed to be largely defeated, though I heard a few couldn't manage to get past it :(
Hopefully as a community we will learn the best way to get around the problem, or Turbine will change it up a bit.

Re: ALES & TALES (every Monday!)
Thanks for organising it! I'm from the UK so had to stay up til 3am to join in but it was well worth it!

Re: ALES & TALES (every Monday!)
For all the Newcomer players in Landroval, Ales and Tales will be held in Celondim tonight.
Celondim is located in the bottom left side of the Ered Luin Map. If you are a Dwarf or Elf character, this is the zone you began the game in.
For those of the Hobbit race, take your best route to the top left corner of the Shire map, a place called Needlehole. At the very top of the area you will see a Gate that you will zone through to enter Ered Luin. Once in the zone, travel north to Duillond and then left and down to Celondim.
For those of the Man Race, take your best route to the Shire and follow the directions listed for Hobbits.
If you have access to Swift Travel, you may ride to Celondim from the following Stable Masters:
West Bree
Michel Delving
Thorin's Hall
There is a User Channel that has been created for those attending Ales and Tales. If you have access to User Channels, then type the words /joinchannel alesandtales followed by a space then enter. To send a message in this channel type /listchannels followed by a space then enter. This will show you the User Channel number for the Ales and Tales channel. Once you find the number assigned to Ales and Tales, merely type a / followed by the number of the channel, then a space and enter. This will make the Ales and Tales Channel your default output channel. from then on you merely have to hit Enter type your message then Enter again and it will send it to Ales and Tales.
Due to the game being Layered to prevent lag, you may arrive in Celondim and not be in the correct layer for the Event. If this should happen, merely type a request in the Ales and Tales User Channel asking someone to invite you to the Layer. You will have to become part of a fellowship with this person, then click on the Icon on the bottom right side of your screen. It will allow you to transfer to the Layer of the fellowship you have joined.
If all this works, you should now be in the correct area but may not be in the correct location. To find the location, merely follow the green arrow on your Radar and it will guide you to the location of the rest of your fellowship.
Assuming you have done everything right, you should now be surrounded by a mass of dancing, drinking, music-playing, and generally loud people.
What you do after this is up to you. Have fun and mingle. Hope to see most of you tonight...
