Manstan and I have butted head on other issues in these forums often enough but when you boil this issue down to where the rubber meets the road the issue IS

Don't you dare take my FE's away from me or curtail them in any way

Some people have added in shades of grey and suggested compromise methods but the actual issue is as stated above. Manstan's ego can be abrasive but in this case he isn't really wrong.

Who is arguing this side? From all of the posts on this topic that I have seen, this has been a very small number of posts. Saying that everyone who isn't on the "opt out toggle" side "doesn't want to lose their ability to harass other players" is not true.

One side thinks that "Forced Emotes" are a terrible thing and anyone who uses them are "griefers". The other side thinks that side 1 is overreacting and they aren't that big a deal.

If Turbine can put in the much discussed toggle without causing other issues then I don't think many people would care. Even those who love using the festival emotes.

Perhaps you should read back through the thread again, there are several posts where people expound on how an opt out would effect their game play. I've read everything from it would prevent them from finishing deeds; or make it take an obnoxiously long time. To it preventing them from playing the game the way they want to. Ether way it is the same thing, they don't want people to be immune to their emotes.

There are at least three sides: the two you mentioned plus the side of the reasonable folk who say "Regardless of how I feel personally about using or being targeted by pranks, I understand there are those who do not like being targeted by them and those who like to get the deed associated with their use. An opt-out toggle which disables the effect on the target yet which still allows the user to advance the deed gives everyone what they want."

They do for the caster, at least they did for me. I didn't have the chance to test if they show at the targets.

Why can't you just stop throwing insults at each other?

It is already confirmed by Scarycrow that we will get at *least* hotspots which will protect us from forced emotes with U10. And hopefully we even get more protection and hopefully without negating the deeds that are tied to the prank-items.

It seems to me that Turbine dev's have made a decision on this discussion. It's only a matter of time till we get told what they will do beyond putting hotspots into the map.

There is no need to insult anyone anymore.

Sorry Max, that still puts you on the in favor of an opt out side. Ether you are in favor of it or not, there isn't really an in between.

Glenwin you are right. If they are putting in serious business zones then it is quite apparent where Turbine stands on this matter.

I'm actually surprised that they're not up for purchase in the store yet.
From turbines standpoint it would be good marketing to add them.

I thought the "Serious Business" flag was promised for U10, not U9?

For the Pony stage, it was announced as being in today's update. I had the impression that was to be the case for the beer garden & methel stage as well, with others being added for 10. We'll have to see what Scarycrow or another bluename tells us.

I never was a supported of forced emotes, and each time there is a festival, it only encourages the miss-use or abuze of the forced emotes, I now hate when we get into a festival season for it means forced emote pranking will be much worse than other times.

I used to craft at Bree and Galtrev, but when festivals occur, i go look for more obscure crafting places where I can be left in peace to my crafting.

Frankly, I would prefer forced emotes be restricted to only work in specific areas such as the festival areas, and nowhere else; thus it would be known if you enter a festival area you are free game to emotes.

Darlgon I'd like to add something to that from personal experience. When I was 8 years old my father held me down and tickled me till I lost control of my bladder, then spanked me for wetting my school clothes. I haven't been ticklish since, and find someone trying to tickle me more aggravating the FEs.

This is about what I expected this thread to devolve to. Tickling and pissing ones pants, a spanking reference is just icing on the cake.

Still no toggle, which is baffling but the forced emote threads are normally amongst the most entertaining.

It's a game. Just a game. I think that the developers make some poor decisions myself, and I spend far more time disparaging this game than I do praising it, but advocating for the devs' wholesale firing because they've implemented something that you didn't like is... unbalanced.

If McDonald's introduces a sandwich that you don't like, do you rant at their offices demanding the heads of everyone responsible?

Other people don't exist solely to make everything you interact with conform to your exact desires, and a video game certainly doesn't. If you have that much outrage to spare, use it for something worth the outrage, something that matters - not a stupid video game.

I use /laugh to make a ;feebleskills alias with the following output: "Max laughs at Player A's feeble skills" when someone uses a prank on one of my characters. But I usually don't care if my characters get pranked (although I am in favor of an opt-out toggle).

When I use it, it makes me think of Emperor Palpatine in The Return of the Jedi.
