So you actually need to be VIP or buy new region to be able to do it and probably lvl115 (maybe lvl110+ can do that introduction but I don't have lvl110-114 character to check it).
It's just coincidence since we do introduction and black book 6.1 at the same time usually but I didn't finish 6.1 after completing introduction on purpose and old tome appeared for me...
We got the 2nd page that translates to Nameless, which Thorin tells you. The problem is we mistranslated it and jumped to the last page for that part.
We thought it meant without brother.
I love to know what nameless really meant.

NOW.. For all the people saying "You can find it in Skumfil!" STOP it. Of course you can BUT you have to be at the right quest stage to get it.
Third page of the book is in Zudrugund, i.e. inside Nar's Peak... the library.
Getting that page completes the quest and you get a new rune that sends you to Thorin's Hall.
You find Orring in Thorin's hall, above the crafting area on a ledge. (Just explore up there)
He sends you to Nud-Melek.
Go to where the dorf you talk to for the epic is at 9.1S, 101.6W
You get some elvish and a picture of flower.
Quests says to talk to someone who may know about it. Find that elf in Caras Galadhon, on the way to the INNER stables.
Elf sends you to find Nauthlandir. That's in Fangorn (AKA Entwood - AKA Derndingle mode) 41.1S 82.6W
Back to Elf, Back to Orring, Back to outside Bat Cave, Click on Tattered Note
This starts the final quest. Back to Othrikar, Talk to Luki. Talk to Runvarth.
Collect the items needed. Black Adamant, Khazad-gold Ingot and NOW you can go to Skumfil left side and the item needed is on the left NOT on Old Gnawer but just in his room.
Turn in stuff, go back to Erebor, go allll the way back to the right hand side next to the throne pedestal on the right side room and the keyhole is there. Click it, enter door, kill dude, turn in quest at Thorin.
I'm tired. Thanks to Elisapee for the translations and help while he was streaming, Thanks to Yolli and Crazypants for all the help as well. I'm going to bed.
Ok... and what Nameless has to do with all of this? How it's supposed to find the page in Zudrugund?..

Back in the Dunland (Enedwaith?) epic quest line, Nar used to forget names all the time.
Listen to the exchange between Nona and Nár
Frithgeir has prepared the brew for Nár, and you should now see if it has the promised effect.
Nona says, "What did you say to my brother Wadu when he came here?"
Nár says, "Wadu?"
Nár says, "Aye, he was a brave dwarf."

This quest is a nice idea but that step made me give up, too casual. Same for Skumfil thing. You should have clarified you need an expansion pack cause a quest like that is supposed to be cleared without any p2p content tho.
Believe me. We LOVE this kind of thing too. It was so fun combining brains and time between much of the community. I was in communication with a lot of people the whole time and tried to keep the information flowing in this thread too. Sadly, there were some people who weren't wanting to help out the community but we still got past that.
Also, who was the dev that snuck in this thread and posted this :)

Cool resource for translating some of the game's other runes, as well (given the distinction between Moria and Erebor runes).
Well, I'd just like to say well done and thank you to all the people who managed to work out this mess of "clues". Made no sense to me at all even after Chromite posted the solution. And the goat's only got 200 health. (Yes. I'm being that guy. It's my turn.)

Agreed- more of this kind of stuff would be great. It was fun, and thanks Chromite and other in here for helping out with stuck moments. I couldn't get the Quipquip to work flawlessly, and had to change letters sometimes (or just fill on the blanks when they did silly things), so I avoided the thread for a while until I got the poem bit sorted. Have to admit though, the link between Nar and Nameless had me stumped. the only thing I can think of is epliogue quest in Erebor, (possible spoiler on main N Mirkwood questline, do not read further if you don't want to see it ). . . . .
when Thorin III is throwing a bit of a bash and Nar joins the party. I can't remember the dialogue, but seem to remember Thorin mentioning something about a nameless friend. I could just be imagining that though :)

For me a good riddle is one that you can't solve for some time but then, when you find (or you told) the solution, you exclaim: "Wow! How is it possible I didn't find out it earlier? It's so obvious!"
When you have 5+ possible answers on why the riddle has this solution and not another, it's... ehm... not a very good riddle imo. For some reason I have a feeling that the first person who found the last page at Nar's Peak made it accidentally by spamming "delete" key in all the significant areas of Middle-Earth instead of solving a puzzle :p
It would be really nice if an author of this quest (was it MadeOfLions or DrOctothorpe?) come out and explain what exactly was his idea behind the "Nameless" clue :rolleyes:
Apparently you need to get everyone to leave the room for a certain amount of time (maybe a couple minutes) to get Grotur to reset.

Yeah, I'd like a confirmation on that too. I'll leave my 'treasure hunter' character on the shores of Mirrormere until I either figure out the link between those two runic words on that pedestal (the paper with the word nameless + the MBÔ(NG)D* or BREGO in other translation key, on the pedestal) and Nár's Peak, or someone gives a reasonable explanation :D.
I read all the quest texts concerning Nár and his Peak, and didn't see any mention of anyone calling him Nameless. It's possible that I missed something, though, because I am in kinda hurry most of the days...
And I'm not sure about the thing him forgetting names either .. it seems as if he, in his crazy state, is actually pulling persons, monsters and names out of his imagination or memories, and connecting them to people in real life, instead of not remembering any names as such. And when he gets sober for a while, he just doesn't recognize all the people around him because he wakes up from this stupor. That would never lead me to him in nameless business.
I'll get to the finish line eventually, but I want to do it in some sort of 'from clue-to-clue' order, as I understand it should be doable as well.

So can you still start this, or was it only yesterday? I can't imagine they woudl do something like this with a mount reward that's only doable one day. All the players who weren't available to play that day.. Also is it soloable?
Cord confirmed that this quest chain is available from now on, no time limit. You need to finish Intro to NMW to pick up the quest though (I also had to literally jump on top of the NPC giving the first quest to start it as he had no ring over his head and there was no scrap of paper near him - that was right after the event went live though so a relog would prolly help as well). You also must have Moria xpac.
There's a nice screenshot on the page 4 of this thread showing the starting point.
It's completely soloable, you only need to fight one serious mob(and some lvl 58 ones).
you can still do it, but i am wondering how you are supposed to enter inner calas caladhon if you havent unlocked the necessary quest chain yet. the rope outside wont work. any ideas?

I played some MMO (Ultima Online docet) where some Staff members were focused only on this kind of quests. Would be a nice way to entertain playerbase.
I totally agree those In Game Masters (IGMs) brought an extra element to the game which the player base appreciated. I remember them adding more forges in Bree so player characters had more space to repair and armour and weapons for new players who could not repair their own. That was where I gained my first silver enchanted weapon!
They later evolved into Event Moderators (EVMs) and Europa was lucky enough to have a roleplayer as theirs. He would take time when not running events in game around the Lord British story arc to attend player run events etc.
Certainly by todays games UO is very old, but it still leads the way as far as many things go, such as housing customisation, and the player run RP community they supported.
Yesterday I finished the quest!. This Puzzle was quite Fun, i even got out the "The Return of the King" Book i had, to translate the runes! and help of some friends

Great event, even if the clues were too obscure for me to solve it myself. I did manage to finish it, by standing on the shoulders of giants as it were. A big thumbs up to those who solved it, and so quickly as well! Nicely done.
You must be at the correct point in the quest chain, when the second dwarf in Othrikar asks for the ingredients. I run Skumfill early on when I deciphered the message and the metal piece wasn't there.
Also, a friend of mine had problems getting it, said he had to search the room a bit, turn around etc. It is selectable, by spamming DEL I was able to see it even before entering the room - maybe it has several respawn places?

Hello! I am responsible for this puzzle :) I will come out from behind the curtain since this is mostly solved.
Nameless was the keyword for the keyword cipher that lets you decode the ciphered text. Basically, this step was skipped because that quipquip website (I have never heard of before!) let you brute-force the cipher and got you most of the way there.
Now that the text is all translated, what does the first letter of each of those text bits spell out? I numbered them for a reason!

I really enjoyed the quest. Please do more in the future. My only criticism would be please leave the quest line connective tissue in place as we move through the objectives. It was very confusing to have the quest simply end, and not know there was another step without reading the forums. I realize you wanted us to participate as a community, but these dead ends felt more like simply looking for spoilers as a short cut, rather than trying to figure something out in a cooperative fashion.
Otherwise, loved it.

Poor Nar, there he was for a day or two, totally the centre of attention, only to be undone by a handful of paper :)

One possible altered version could be having "Nameless, In Exile" as it gives both the cipher key and the lead to go see Nar in Zudrugund.

I still can't help but feel that the quest lacks some connective tissue between the coded pages from the chests and the runes. On their own both just seem to be dead ends with no reason to connect them.
One other criticism, and I don't really super care, but felt it should be noted, by sending us to Moria, you are in essence sending us back in time. At that point in the progression of the game, the Iron Garrison has been driven out Moria. So you really shouldn't have been sending us there.
So I talked to Orring in Thorin's hall and he suggested I go find Rúnvarth. I have searched and cannot find any other reference to Rúnvarth. I don't know where I'm supposed to be directed to now. I know what the forums tell me to do. But I want to know why I should go to a bat cave.....what am I missing that indicates I should go there..?
I do not have the rep to enter Calas Caladhon, I tried the rope but it has no effect. Is there any other way to get into the area without fussing with rep and such?

The last quest can be/is bugged.
If a player interact with the stone in the secret chamber but then not going close to the dwarf NPC, the quest will be blocked for all fallowing players. :(
If that rope isn't active for you already then short answer is no. It activates for players who have specific epic vol. III quest (book 6 iirc) that require you to go there or proper anniversary quest (which is obviously not possible now).
It is also active while introduction: Northern Mirkwood is underway but you have to finish it to start this scavenger. These are 3 exceptions I know from general rule which requires you have friend reputation with Galadhrims to enter Caras Galadhon.
However unlike someone claimed you don't have to own this region. You should have acquaintance rep from epic and the rest can be done doing some preparation quests available to everyone. Also if you already been there earlier thanks to mentioned above exceptions and tagged inner stables then you can simply swift travel there from Galtrev since they didn't add reputation requirement for stables that connect with CG but were added later than Lothlorien (there is 1 more I think, you can check in stables panel).
Ah, if you are curious then you can't be summoned or ported there without friend rep, so no workaround that way.
Evidently I missed the text of the poem. I was pretty sure I had read everything I found because I have pages of notes....but going back it wasn't til I read the text in Wiki-pedia quest notes that I saw the poem. I came back on another character to do the quest and never saw any poem for that character either! Without lotro-wiki I never would have seen the poem at all.
