thanks!
try:
rake, root, and digs
I get the feeling I’m at least a little way out, but I’ll go for:
What are Combe, Stock and the Delving Fields?
i just happened to be unable to sleep and looked in, and saw this :p
much closer, the correct spelling is Burrowes (according to my copy, anyway.)
and i'm cheating with the first two. consider them as verbs, to rake in the ground, to root, to...
(edit: they're still all names, just using verbs as a means to get there ;p )
Who were Grubb, Grubb & Burrowes, the overseers of the auction of Bilbo's estate?
Here's something a bit different...
What would happen to someone who could taste the heart of a dragon and withstand its poisonous blood?
What is a hyperpolyglot?
interesting bit there..but CORRECT!! They would know all tongues of Gods or Men, of birds or beasts, and their ears would catch whispers of the Valar or of Melko. Your turn!! ;)
OK.

These items have alliterative nicknames applied to them by goblins.
Argh! What are Orcrist and Glamdring A.K.A. Beater and Biter?
Right, next one:
The day the dwarves came home.
OK, recap:
A mighty warrior, possibly even stronger than an elf (wording changed slightly - my mistake, the word "lord" is not actually used in the text)
Hint already given: Not first age
New hint: much smaller than an elf :)
Who was Bullroarer Took? He led the defence against the Mount Gram Goblins, & supposedly knocked Golfimbul's head off & down a rabbit hole, thereby creating the game of golf!
Who was Bilbo?
Who is Sam?
After "sticking a pin" into Shelob.
The goblins thought there was a great Elf Warrior prowling around.
You got it!
“By all the signs, Captain Shagrat, I’d say there’s a large warrior loose, Elf most likely, with an elf-sword anyway, and an axe as well maybe; and he’s loose in your bounds, too, and you’ve never spotted him. Very funny indeed!’ Gorbag spat. Sam smiled grimly at this description of himself.”

You’re up!
OK, next one:
This uncouth highwayman was known for his culinary skills.
Very close but...
No. Not William.
Who was Bert?
Bit lengthy, but here goes...:D
This being originally was one of the Maiar, but was corrupted & seduced by Melkor. After many battles, survived Morgoth's defeat, & finally took refuge beneath the Misty Mountains.
Yeppers, all yours!! :)

This royal suggested using bird calls as a means of communication.
Ah this one is easy (prepares to repent for being cocky :)) - I must have missed it before. This it Thorin giving instructions to Bilbo when they are sneaking up on the three trolls:
“Now it is the burglar’s turn,” they said, meaning Bilbo. “You must go on and find out all about that light, and what it is for, and if all is perfectly safe and canny,” said Thorin to the hobbit. “Now scuttle off, and come back quick, if all is well. If not, come back if you can! If you can’t, hoot twice like a barn-owl and once like a screech-owl, and we will do what we can.”
Off Bilbo had to go, before he could explain that he could not hoot even once like any kind of owl any more than fly like a bat.”

OK, here we go:
A distant relation of Bilbo Baggins, who ended up travelling even further east than he did...
Who was Basso Boffin? He left home at 26 to sail the ocean, and was never heard from again.
Another hint: a very well-known hobbit...
Who is Peregrin Took?
That's it!
The king gave the Ring Of Barahir to the chief of the "snowmen" of Forechel in thanks for helping when he and his folk were stranded.
Cirdan sent a ship up north to rescue the king and his folk. Shortly after departing the ship was crushed in ice and went down, taking the palantirs of Anuminas and Amon Sul with it.
His story is told in verse here: https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthr...-The-Last-King
Grats, the turn is yours!
A hero of old rode it into battle to slay an original firey beast.

Thanks! Let's see...

Hint: this Elf was a reluctant Ring-bearer
Who is Cirdan, the Shipwright (or Shoprite, for the commercially inclined)?
By the way, he is (I think) the only elf to be known for wearing a beard....
Sorry for the long delay! Thread wasn't showing as updated on my subscribed!
Yes, you're correct: Círdan was Narya's original bearer till he passed it along to Gandalf, but he was less known for his role in aiding the race of Man fend off the forces of Angmar and the Witch King during the Third Age.
Now yours is the turn to ask :)
OK, next one:
This person was the daughter of a major character and the mother of several minor characters.
Tolkien couldn't decided if he wanted this character to remain as one really old Elf or two different ones!
