Noice~ think I covered everything >.>
No estimated uptime :(
Mmm pie!
Yeah I hope it's soon. Would be nice to get some gaming in today - been bored all day and it's almost 7pm now :/
Don't make me watch more repeats!
Dragged out of the house all of yesterday, but I figured it was fine since I could play before class today. So much for that. Can't even browse these forums well. Half the time I get sent to a generic maintenance page, and the other half they just load incredibly slow.
Like trying to post this! Got a generic maintenance page.
I confess I didn't catch the advance notice in the launcher, but this weekend was crazy for me and I was mainly on when I was exhausted.
Still, how many maintenances do they need? I know things are being readied for F2P, but good grief. This makes three times (that I can remember) the game's been down for 'maintenance', and for extended periods of time, within a 7-day period. They should have had all this prepared adequately beforehand so that it would take as little time as possible, and yet now we're told there's no estimated uptime, and within an hour of when it was supposed to have been up! You'd think they would have known before then, but...
They could at least keep the forums reliably up whilst they're doing this, but it's been a crahp shoot (this isn't a rude word, it refers to dice but I've had to be imaginative in spelling since it's bizarrely censored; since when is that word naughty enough to be censored?!) trying to look at threads. Some load, some don't, some say the site's under maintenance...
I'm just sounding off, feel free to dismiss it all...it's just irritating that I had Plans (tm) for today and got up early, got everything done I needed to do, sat down to implement those Plans (tm), only to be faced with 8+ hours of surprise! downtime.
hum.. come on guys!! Complaining that they're always doing maintenance on the servers, blabla we can't log in!! HEY!! F2P is coming, this is big, i think it's normal they have to do some maintenance on the servers. guys who knows about computers also knows that you can't go faster than the actual computer. sometimes, unexpected bugs can happen. Give them some credit. I think they're doing a great job here.
turbine listen: paying customers want an update from you about the downtime!!!
Pay to Play=Right to Gripe folks! Been with LOTRO 3+ years and their maintenance record is truly awful. Obviously today was not routine maintenance it was another add-on to get ready for f2p and (as it usually does in MMOs) it blew up in their faces. Now they are picking up the pieces and trying to decide what to do next. WOW went through this same process until they finally learned and started doing it better. Sort of like sex before then after marriage. Turbine, however, has not yet learned anything in this are. Extremely disappointed not be be able to play today as planned. But I anticipate far worse in the coming months as f2p comes online. Maybe the smoke will clear by Nov-Dec. But if Turbine does truly mess up a good thing I suppose I will lose interest and take my subscription elsewhere. They have until late Oct to prove themselves in this before my renewal comes up so I am understandably anxious to see them to this right.
It's right there at the top of the page in red letters - hard to miss
Or did you mean that you wanted them to make up some number to make you feel better, if they don't know they don't know. Sapience is really good about letting us know when he can of any changes so just chill.
Frankly its all Rubbish!
think of a car!
You buy it or pay monthly, Once a year you get it serviced where you dont have it! However you get given a courtesy car to replace it!
the same should be done here!
Have a temp system while they work on the main one!
That would be customer service! and would make everyone happy, Frankly they shoudl consider what they are using our Money for - not to sub the New F2P people! but to give us something back for the time and effort we have put into this game!
Rant Finished
PS im Pissed as its a Bank Holiday in England today and we have not been able to log on since 10am! Its now nearly 9pm! that is a full day wasted of Game time! Will i get it back _ NO!!!
Almost 3 extra hours so far.../rage
You should demand your money back!
You'll need to do a little math, but it is only FAIR. Take the expected uptime over a month. Which would be 24 hours x 30 days. Then divide that by the amount you pay a month, and then figure out how much you are owed for this and all down times for the month!
Server Maintenance Update Notes we probably won't be seeing:
Wow did something blow up on an epic scale. We have been testing this new
patch for weeks with no issues then BOOM the friggen thing bombed during the
installation. It's a war zone right now down here. Doritos bags and empty cans
of Mountain Dew are strewn everywhere! So far casualties are minimal with only
two junior admins down. We'll keep you updated!
I understand your impatience and anger, and I'm right there with you. However, the analogy to a car doesn't work -- a car is relatively cheap and used by 1 person at a time, so a dealership can stock a small number of spare cars to provide people during intermittent issues. In this case, you are talking about a system shared by thousands of people, more akin to a subway line than an individual car. For a 'temp backup' to work, there would need to be a workable replica of all servers to handle load during an outage. That would double Turbine's cost of supporting the network, and it's simply not realistic.
lost play time? think about the time uve lost when u type /played...i know personally ive spent an accumulated time of about 5 months of my life litterally on this game playing...its maintenance ppl...go do something else...i spent the day cleaning...was planning on playing today cause today was my kids first day at school...but hey didnt get to...i did something resourceful...i was planning on being on at 2pm est when it said it would be back up...but looks like theyve screwed something up as usual...ive been playing for 3 yrs roughly...im used to it...kinda glad i was able to get some housework done...and now ill prolly take a well deserved nap lol
The problem is that F2P will benefit Turbine. It is meant to bring in new subscribers and create more revenue.
New content benefits the paying customer, and Mirkwood I don't believe took this much maintenance. They wouldn't have needed to go f2p to bring in new subscribers if they kept their current ones happy with new stuff to do.
I am fine with extended downtime if when I log back on I will be getting the benefit of updates/content, or even for general maintenance. I am not ok with extended downtime that is meant to increase Turbine's revenue.
