You got it! Well done.
ok a quick and easy one,
12 brothers walked ‘round, hand-in-hand, single file
The eldest and youngest wear harsh face and bitter smile
Hey, I'm new to this thread, just found it today, but it's fantastic!
You guys are really clever, I've had a blast wasting company time perusing through these riddles. As for elvyen's latest, I'll venture a guess... The twelve months of the year?
I don't know if that guess was correct or not, but after reading that gem of elvyen's a few pages back I thought up this one:
What is my name?
Its first is the first of he who loves in shadow
Its second shares its form with he who reads these words
Its third yields rolling peaks, but its valleys number one
Its fourth bookends the firstborns' azure gift
Its final is within this entire line's brigade
So... what's my name?
You are correct! nice job:)
and welcome to the thread! isnt it great hehe, its the whole reason i started coming to the forums at all
and that's a really cool sounding riddle you started off with, hope to hear many more from you in the future
now to ponder the answer hehe
By the way, I just edited it, I made a mistake when typing it in originally. Changed "bookmarks" to "bookends". Makes much more sense that way. Sorry about that.
Haha very cool riddle! was fun to figure out,
I think I have the answer, but I wont post it now because I can't make the fifth line fit yet, still working on that one. In the meantime someone else might answer it
ugh:( here's the boss, back to work
Welcome to the riddle game! That is a difficult riddle. I can't seem to decipher it... I have figured out parts of it, but like Elvyen I can't get it to fit. While we wait for someone to fit this all together, here's another riddle I wrote this morning.
Over spears and swords,
Over mattocks and bows,
A darkness approaches,
A blackness grows,
But it is not this blackness that you seek,
It is another of which I speak,
It drapes low, filling all with dread,
It lingers there, overhead,
Now it falls with whirling flight,
Destroying the good and fastening to light.
LA, Is that the darkness that spread out in the the Return of the King?
Hmmm... this probably isn't it, but the "destroying the good and fastening to light" line reminds me of Morgoth and Ungoliant destroying the two trees.
OK im not feeling confident about my explanation of the fifth line of Womdom's
riddle, but I'm gonna take a stab at it! The name is GIMLI !!!
What is my name?
Its first is the first of he who loves in shadow
This is definitely Gollum, so first letter "G"
Its second shares its form with he who reads these words
Me! "I" am reading these words hehe, so 2nd letter "I"
Its third yields rolling peaks, but its valleys number one
obvious hehe, "M" has two hills and one valley
Its fourth bookends the firstborns' azure gift
ok.. here we go.... at first i thought bookends meant the letter was on each
end of the word, but Im gonna say that bookends here means just at the end.
So since i needed the "L" to fit, im gonna guess the firstborns azure gift is either the phiaL from galadriel or the silmariL of feanor, though azure still poses problems..
Its final is within this entire line's brigade
This is cool! the letter "I" is in every word of the line, the whole brigade haha
so there ya go :) well done Womdon, even if i'm completely wrong hehe
(edit: wow quite a riddle LA, that will have me pondering a while.. THANKYOU! ..unless Bailo or Womdom are right hehe)
Excellent elvyen, you nailed each line :)
Although the fourth letter, L, referred to Luniel the blue star. But I'm glad you liked the riddle!
ACK!! i should have thought of that! very nice!
I've got a new guess for LA's riddle, one I think fits a bit better...
Ancalagon the Black?
Sorry, no one has yet correctly guessed my riddle. :) Very nice job on Womdon's, Elvyen!
I don't usually check the forums when I'm not at work, but this riddle thread has me hooked!
Ok, so your riddle has me stumped so far Last Alliance. I'm assuming it's lore-related... so let's see....
Multiple darknesses, fluttering from above... any chance it's the darkness that snared Frodo and the hobbits in the barrows? The trap the wight used?
I'm afraid I may be better at making riddles than solving them, heheh.
sorry, that's incorrect.
I'll hazard a guess... a Balrog?
Wow LA.... you've really got me with this one
Answers come to me,.. and then I hit the last line and they go up in smoke:mad:
destroys only the good?.. FASTENS to light... and the first lines are perhaps irrelevant since the darkness they describe isnt what we seek...
couldnt be any force of nature since that destroys all, not just the good
still pondering...
LOTR related? (ACK i hate asking for clues)
crows.. carrion birds.. tornados... fear... ACK! nothing fits hehe
Where are you Silverlocket? Your guessing prowess is needed for this one I think
is it Angmar?
Ok, I think I've got one last guess in me... and to my way of thinking it fits the riddle better than my others...
The Oathbreakers
nope and nope. I didn't think this riddle would be so difficult... to answer your question, Elvyen, yes this riddle is lotr related. Every riddle I've ever posted in this thread has been lotr related, and I don't intend to start writing unrelated riddles any time soon. :) I hope Berephon is still around, he may be able to guess it.
Theres a good number of creatures in Middle Earth that could fit all the lines except for the last part of the last line in your riddle LA. I will hazard another guess, though I am not 100% sure how it would fit the last line. Could your riddle be referring to the great beast upon which the Witch-king rode in the Return of the King?
Sorry, that's incorrect. Although a great many creatures may fit most of my riddle, they kind of ignore the first half of it. The first blackness is not irrelevant, it's very important. In fact, I thought that the first two lines would give away the answer. That's a hint, by the way.
