I'm just imagining that I'll be the very last to move. I'll have my nice "it's my house, now! Muahahaha!' elf waiting on Landroval & just when it's my turn, they'll shut its transfers down. Then I'll get stuck on a server that fancies pvmp or something likewise serious. Or - it could work out perfectly... there is always that!

I assume the Bullroarer Client/Launcher will have the Copy Button as this will be a function of the launcher, not the web-page.

But we won't know until the patch server comes up.

Although it may be that the normal Game launcher will provide a copy to Bullroarer option when it gets patched -- It looks like we won't know until Monday.

Xhiu, you know that no character on bullroarer, no matter how they got there, can be transferred/copied/moved from Bullroarer to any live server. Please do copy characters to Bullroarer to test the launcher version of the character copy/move utility.

:-) If I were moving, yes the same thoughts would likely got through my mind. Fed Ex would lose my bank transfer and more....

Neither of these answer my question, though perhaps I was unclear.

It’s not a transfer token. It’s an alert on the bottom right hand side of my screen that pops up every time I log in that offers a name change. I didn’t destroy it, I simply ignore it. Like many people, I’ve grown attached to my character name. I would rather keep my name and the -1 than change my name entirely.

My question revised: I transferred earlier this year. Someone else had the name Wiga. I became Wiga-1. The original Landroval Wiga hasn’t logged in in over a year. If I transfer Wiga-1 off of Landroval, then back to Landroval can I get Wiga and the person who hasn’t been active in over a year get the -1? (as the name priorities should work).

I KNOW the new transfer system is not active yet.
Of course I used a paid transfer.
I don’t want a -#. I don’t want a new name.
The person who has my name on Landroval hasn’t been active in over a year.
If I transferred off of Landy, then transferred back, can I get my name without the -1, since the peron with my name isn’t active?

Naming Priorities

With the new transfer process, when you transfer your character to a new world, the world will check to see if there is a naming conflict. If there is, it will grant the name to the incoming character if the character existing on the world has not been active for one year or more. The less active character will have a -1 added to their name and a rename token granted to the character. (Rename tokens have no expiration date.) This should prevent the majority of unnecessary renames for those transferring from the impacted worlds.


so according to that if the person hasn't been active in over a year as you say,then you get the name and he/she gets the -1

Only if you transfer from the other server with the name Wiga, NOT with the name Wiga-1, so you will have to rename either way.

So the process would be:

1) Transfer from Landroval to one of the other 3 servers that you can transfer to.
2) On that server, buy a rename token, and rename yourself from Wiga-1 to Wiga.
3) Now that you are Wiga, transfer back to Landroval, and the inactive Wiga will lose his/her name.

Of course the caveat is that one of the other servers MUST have a "Wiga" available for you to use.

I don't want to be a pain but could someone please publish a list like this US one for the EU players? I would try and do one myself but have no idea how to go about it.

Last month I started transferring all my characters one by one to Laurelin as I wanted to roleplay. I realise I should have waited now as it would have saved me a lot of money as I am an altaholic. I was still in the process when the transfer option was removed. I appreciate that I am lucky, depending on whether the world closures will affect me, as I have only three characters left to transfer. This includes a kin leader but I already emptied my houses and lost them when the home owners moved. I am quite excited about the storage and other items transferring that I sadly missed. I didnt realise how much the shared wallet items would be missed.

I hope that everything goes smoothly and that they will allow everyone to at least keep the -1 after their name or come up with a solution that will satisfy the majority of very concerned players. When I was doing the transfer last month (I now consider myself something of an expert :) ), I was sure that I was told that the rename tokens that some of my characters received were to be used within 30 days. Am I wrong? I hope I am (for once lol).

Not 7 months though. All they said in the beginning was that servers will close and that we'll get info about the rest later. It has only been a few days since Turbine told us they were going to take this road when it comes to names. It would have been a waste of time logging in on all our characters if it had turned out that they were going by earliest created or most played or something else :eek: Not that it's a problem if it stays a once only thing. The problems will appear later if they start selling rename tokens that can take character names at any time if they haven't been logged in lately :eek:

It's been millions of posts about people arguing what might happen on names from ppl getting from one server to another ever since that letter came out first week january. Speculation was already there, and now it's a reality. Seriously, if i care about one name, ill take 5 minutes to log in on each character I care about.

There is no perfect way to deal with naming conflict. No matter what happened, someone would end up upset.

I can't muster up much sympathy for players who've not logged in in a year. You've gone, you've quit, you're not reading the forums or your emails about the state of the game. You are an ex-player. Things might happen while you're not paying attention. If such a player were to return then fine, but it'd be an odd person indeed to care so much about the state of their account in their absence they'd get mad they'd lost names, but never read a Turbine email stating the servers were merging. Game change all the time. Your choice to keep in the loop or not.

I haven't gotten any emails to date about the server closures. I'm using the same email I signed up with. When will the emails go out to alert the people? Before someone takes their name, or after? If they're not expecting such an email will they know to check spam folders? Everybody's situation is different and we have no right to judge other players who believed their characters were safe.

Hmm.... Since this game went live 8 years ago, NO 1 has had to worry about some 1 being able to take thier names. There have been plenty of people returning lately, maybe they have been gone for some time, no matter, they never had to worry about thier names. Period! Until.. well ..when this all goes into effect. I for 1 have not gotten 1 email about this, ever. I must be 1 of those people that has sympathy for anyone losing thier names! I wasn't a big fan of this idea, from the get go. The whole inactive stuff.


If people would put themselves in others shoes, I just wonder how they would feel if this was reversed, and they happened to be the 1 losing thier name/names. This is going to be hard enough on people as it is, lets not make it any worse, shall we. Show some compassion.

I have one question. Some of my characters are in different Kinships and am I able to decide if I don't want to stay with those kinships after the next update on August the 3rd? Or do I have to quit the Kinships now before the update? Just want to make sure.

I can't agree with this at all. I love LOTRO, but like many games, I take a break from time to time. Until March, my last login was right before the trait tree implementation. The game seemed very dead then, in terms of other players. Right now, LOTRO is in an exciting place with PvMP love and new instance/raid love as well. Also, no more worrying about a level cap increase so getting those First Age Weapons doesn't seem as futile.

I have put many hours into this game but also taken multiple breaks. Sometimes a half year, sometimes a year, sometimes 2 years.

People will have to change the names of some of their characters... period.

I have taken long breaks as well. And I think it's a reasonable expectation that your characters and your progress remains intact. After all, maintaining that information has no impact on the active player base.

Having said that, I emphatically believe a name wipe of all characters not logged into for a year is both fair and in the best interest of the game. Names are not a big deal early in the life cycle of a game, but become a big issue as games age. It is simply unfair to those actively playing and paying (read: keeping the lights on so you have a game to come back to!), to allow inactive, non-paying people to take up such a precious and limited resource.

For me, it is a simple question of fairness. Freeing up the names for everyone (including those who choose to return and contribute) seems reasonable and equitable.

I wonder if we will see clubbers on the closing worlds. While the majority transfer off it will give clubbers an open oppertunity.

I think everyone should get a free naming token irrespective of naming conflicts.

I'd check if the name and name-1 are not in use on another server available to transfer to. I'd make characters with each then. Transfer there, to become name-2 and get a free rename token. Delete your name without suffix character to free up the name, now rename yourself to the plain name with no suffix and transfer back to the server.

IE, the goal is to transfer back in with the name without suffix.

When the kin leader transfers, the kin is disbanded on the old world. If you follow kin to a new world, and the kin leader went there first, you will automagically be in the kin again. If this is not what you want, you may transfer to a different world, transfer before the kin leader, or leave kin, it makes no difference when you do those things per the calendar date.

Simple answer, try it when the service is available. What is the worst that could happen, you wind up with Wiga-1 or Wiga-1-1. If you do try it let us know how it worked out.

Did you actually read the Blue post I was quoting at all?

They clearly stated in that post the following: " Please note I found an error in the original article, which we are working to correct, but I will state here .... The paragraph has incorrect information. Free moves between the main worlds will not start Monday, only Bullroarer copies will be available that day".

Why would they bother to post this information was incorrect in the original paragraph they posted if, as you say "Transfers never started for "everyone" on Monday, the letter clearly laid out the process"

If it was "clearly laid out", it would require no post buried on page 8 indicating the original info was incorrect and needed to be corrected, now would it?
