That's sad. LOTRO was the only game when 'turn off world chat' wasn't my #1 priority upon logging in a new character. But since coming back to the game, it's been necessary. I guess there's always someone *that* desperate for attention, & it's always unwise to respond, but sometimes so hard to resist. (aka, 'why they do it.') Best to just turn it off entirely. But I remember when I first started LOTRO - someone asked what could reasonably be called a 'stupid question' in chat, and I held my breath for the usual barrage of abuse. Instead, someone just answered, and the conversation moved on. Oh well. "Progress."
When you transfer a house owning character the house does not come along, just the contents (in escrow), extra gold to buy a house of the same size, and the storage chest slots you've purchased. The idea is that you can then buy a house and it will have the same size chest as the one you left behind. Then you get your stuff out of escros and redecorate.
If you had any stuff in your house that someone else owned, it returns to their escrow.
I do not know how they will handle merging the storage chest purchases.
World chat on Laurelin is amazingly civil, better than Landroval IMHO which is still much more civil than other games I play.
But. I created an account on Brandywine to see what that is like. That world chat is horrible. There but for the grace of policies, go we.
This is my problem. I have mains on Imladris and Landroval. I'd like to move everyone to Landy, but... I don't want my hobbit main to lose her house and the storage I purchased. Not to mention I don't have enough space to pull her things out at the new server. Tough decisions to make.
Suggestion for persons who find themselves unable to keep their names:
Use the Surname feature to claim your former name as your last name, at least for a while, so that others who wish to find you will know you.
In my case, that won't help too much; I had perhaps a bad habit of plagiarizing my own names, so I'll have to create some new ones for my people who aren't on my home of Landroval.
I have deleted all but 3 characters on one of the closing servers. These have the same names as characters on another server where I am playing. I have 8 characters on that server. I figure I can move the 8 to a new server but I was hoping maybe that we could move them all to the same server instead of just leaving them in limbo indefinitely? Would I have to purchase additional character slots. I mean this isn't my decision or my fault and it would be nice to just have them all together to play since we cannot just exit back to a choose server menu. Characters already being played have full banks etc so trying to delete them and hold on to crafting supplies they have etc would also be difficult. Otherwise I could delete a couple maybe and fit the extras in world after the first move. And the only other thing I am worried about is lag created by a server with high population.
Sorry if this was answered somewhere down the thread, I don't normally hit the forums that often, but I guess I'll ask and deal with the consequences. Let's say my character is level 100 and has been played for the last 8 years and the destination character is a level 1 "nameholder"...this means that my level 100 is going to lose their name, regardless of time spent and kin relations and everything else?
If the level 1 "nameholder" has logged in within the last 12 months then yes, you will lose the name on your level 100 and become "nameholder-1" and receive a name change token. If the "nameholder" has not logged in within the last 12 months then you will take over their name and they will be "nameholder-1" and be awarded a name change token.
A "solution" to at least store your items might be to create a new F2P account and buy a standard house with that (preferably next your main house). Then give rights to your main account character(s) so he/they can pay for upkeep and chest space. I've been using this method for years and it helps me well with my storage problems. Only caveat is that you will have to level that F2P to level 15 so he can buy a house.
For years LOTRO has not dealt with Issues that we have had with the game, now they pull this on us...Really! It will take me about a month to get myself ready to transfer, then transfer. VIP and I get to pay for wasting a month of my time just to play/pay again. LOTRO did you think about that?
I don't just feel ripped-off, I am being ripped-off!!!!!! So are all of you VIP's. They just killed the game, TY LOTRO for all your mismanagement ...Great Job!!!!
Wow, what will you be doing in this month to "get ready"?
I'm really just interested. It took me about half an hour to save my names on my destination server and I was lucky, all but one were still available. Maybe I'm missing something I should do?
One thing that everybody should possibly check is if he has bound housing items in "foreign" places (other houses of additional accounts for example (kids, wife, husband, own) or kin houses). You should get those back just to be sure not to lose them.
Example:
account 1 has a house with character A
account 2 has a house with character B
character A owns a bound item in the house of character B
- character A transfers off the server (the item will stay in house of B)
- character B transfers off the server (the item will vanish as the original owner A does not exist anymore)
I don't know if many people are affected by this (I am) or are even aware of this possible problem. Better check this now than be sorry later.
I'm not the type of person that care so much about name of my character, however I know people who do care so much that they are willing to quit game if they cant get their names.
I'm wondering, why is naming system so limited in lotro. I think a lot of issues would be solved if we could be allowed to make name + surname in creation. So for example If i want to be Sam, however there are 10 other people who want to be Sam as well then they can easily. Sam Red, Sam Blue, Sam Whatever etc... u get my point. Its kind of not even realistic that only one person can be called certain way.
I apologize if this has been answered previously, but the thread is a mess and some straight answers are hard to find:
Have created a new Character in my "target" world/server (a character I will keep, not created to reserve a name or anything like that nonsens, I will move all characters over there when time is due), I realize I can't send him stuff from the characters on the other server, which frankly is annoying but we all know of it.
- If I get him a house, will that house serve as the new account house when transfer is done? Or will I end up with two houses?
------------
I have absolutely thought of this, and encourage others as you have, to remove and thereby send back bound items to alts or others folks before they leave the server, to ensure they have those items back in their possession!
I'll have to think carefully on this to ensure my husband and friends have their items back before we move.
I for example, have my main in a kin, with some of my bound items in the kinhouse. I also own a house, my husband owns a house, my other accounts own houses, as well as having a kin/kinhouse on one of those other accounts. If I was careless, I might move my 'kin owner' before taking his bound items off the other houses, or move any of my characters before removing items from one of those houses... oh the confusion lol. I don't recall who has what on any of those houses after moving decor around so many times!
Easiest thing will be to remove/return them all to the owners prior to any moving:)
An option for you would also be to contact (if possible) the nameholder character on your Target Server, as many people are setting up nameholder characters on several servers, as they may want to go to that server, but are not sure. It might well play out that they do not go to your Target Server and be happy to delete that character so you could retain your name. This might require some patience on your part, and some courtesy on theirs, but neither commodity is unheard-of in LOTRO. Maybe not as common as we might like when we need the courtesy, but still not unheard-of.
This can be a special case; say you buy a Standard House on Target Surviving Server [TSS] for short-term use, but have a Deluxe on Current Departing Server [CDS]. If you move the house-owning character from CDS to TSS, the Standard House on TSS is retained and the Deluxe house value is available to the transferred character, but he has no house purchase option, as the account already has a Standard House.
A work-around is to abandon the Standard House on TSS before you move the house-owning character from CDS to TSS, but this leaves the issue of storage for the contents during that time, and loses the storage space bought with the Standard House. A more complicated work-around is to move the Standard house-owning character from TSS to another Surviving Server (this should be free until some time in October, we believe), taking the Standard House contents and storage slots with him/her, and buy a new Standard House on that (temporary) Surviving Server. Then move the Deluxe house-owning character from CDS to TSS and buy a new Deluxe House there (on TSS). Then move the house-owning character from the (temporary) Surviving Server back to TSS, and the maintenance and storage from the Standard House are added to the Deluxe House. More awkward, to be sure, but you end up with a Deluxe House on your Target Server.
While Turbine could make a system that would take care of that for us without the 'housing shuffle' (and the extra transfers), I suspect the need is too rare (I'll be doing it a few times) to justify the development and testing costs for the 'special' system - a few extra automatic transfers is probably much more economical for them.
Right now I have maxxed out housing storage slots in both my deluxe and kin houses.
When I transfer, will I need to have already purchased a deluxe house on the new server to get those storage slots granted? Will I lose them if I don't have a house already? Housing storage costs were raised significantly since I originally bought the house, so this is something I need to plan for.
Is this also true for kinhouses? It takes quite a long time to be able to get a kin to the rank to be able to buy a kin house on the new server. If I already need to have a kin house on the new server to be able to preserve the storage slots, that's going to make it take longer for me to move off my old server.
