Oh I like that riddle. It does sound like a beautiful blond woman. Just another reason to like the riddle.

Haha yeah, though I had no particular beautiful blonde in mind:)
Yes you are correct it's a face:) well done
bleh:P I was hoping that one would be tougher
Ok LA your turn?
(PS. i actually prefer brunettes but i couldnt think of a treasure for brown or black hair lol)
edit: btw from your post before, Womdon, grats on lvl 50! :)
Don't count out the redheads! Fire in the hair begets a fire in the soul... heheh.
And thanks, it certainly took me long enough to do it. I actually hang out in the forums while at work more often than I get to play the game itself.
I know it's Last Alliance's turn, but I have a riddle prepared from yesterday I was hoping to share. No offense LA, don't mean to step on your turn, just throwing mine out there as well. This is another one of those that I had quite a bit of fun writing:
My will has shaped this mighty world, valley, rock, and sand
Much of its visage and its form were crafted by my hand
My servants long have strived to gift the world with sacred truth
Even now, though weak they are, and back unto its youth
The fiercest of these servants, my loyal herald of might
Whose only quest and dream it was to set the world aright
Long spread deserved woe to the wise and worthy's foe
Ever was he strong, and ever leading battles' flow
His power and his blade have seen battles wide and far
Awash with misled foolish tears and beneath the stars
He brought the death of he who dared to sully my great name
His spirit burned with such a fire that only I could tame
He oversaw the vanquishing of foul crafters and of kings
But fell amidst our great conquest; for him my heart sings
To immortal eyes it was not long before I fell as well
Though not slain, my punishment is cruel, ruthless hell
And to our undue defeats there are many to be blamed
But to paraphrase a kindred spirit, "Hope you guess our names"
By the way, the answer to the riddle is two different people, so ya gotta get them both to guess it right. :)
No problem at all, another riddle is always welcome. I tend to take a while to find the time to start writing anyway. Now I'll read yours and ponder it...
(btw, grats on 50)
Hmm... It makes me Think of Sauron and the Witch King of Angmar, though Sauron didn't really shape the world at all... perhaps Morgoth and Sauron?
The answer isn't Sauron/Witchking, or Morgoth/Sauron, although you're certainly on the right track.
Looks to me like Illuvatar and Morgoth
No, not Iluvatar/Morgoth (Iluvatar never really "fell") but again you're on the right track.
wow thats quite a riddle, it mustve been a lot of fun to write,
ive been pondering for a few minutes here and im thinking the falling to immortal eyes and cruel ruthless hell bit is not literal, just a sad state of being... and the line about the spirit burning with fire (and the misled foolish tears bit for that matter) just screams Feanor to me. Also the valley/rock/sand line makes me think Aule since earthy things were his province hehe. And feanor was a "student" of Aule's... but i cant think of any way that Aule "fell" to immortal eyes and was "punished", being one of the Aratar and all...hmmmmmmm
perhaps his reprimand from Illuvatar for creating his own little dwarvish race lol
well anyway my current guess is Aule/Feanor
best I can do at the moment, Ill keep working on it when i can
nice riddle in any case
You know I've always been fascinated with Aule and Feanor, although they're not the answer. Aule's definitely my favorite Valar.
There are quite a few references in the riddle to specific people or events, although none of them are described specifically. What can I say, I like being vague ;). I went ahead and bolded a few words that I think will help in picking out the trickier of the two...
My will has shaped this mighty world, valley, rock, and sand
Much of its visage and its form were crafted by my hand
My servants long have strived to gift the world with sacred truth
Even now, though weak they are, and back unto its youth
The fiercest of these servants, my loyal herald of might

To immortal eyes it was not long before I fell as well
Though not slain, my punishment is cruel, ruthless hell
And to our undue defeats there are many to be blamed
But to paraphrase a kindred spirit, "Won't you guess our names?"
I think that might help a bit
Hey everyone, man I haven't looked at this thread in a while.
Now onto Womdon's riddle.... I'm amazed, that riddle sounds really beautiful; however I'm sure I will be puzzling over it for a while.;)
good to have you back Bailo:)
im still working on Womdon's monster as well, when i get time
ill have another guess tomorrow maybe
Is it by any chance Fingon/Maedros? I'd say Angmar is pretty hell-like, and Maedros was chained to Thangoridim.
e.h.b
Hey Bailo and E H B, how's it going?
The answer isn't Fingon/Maedros, but good guess!
ok, as promised, here's today's guess. had a couple minutes to ponder it this morning, as the boss is away annoying someone other than me for once.
My guess is Melkor/Gothmog (lord of Balrogs)
gothmog being the chief servant and herald of might of melkor, Feanor being the crafter (silmarils and other shinies), and one who sullied Melkor's name (first named him Morgoth the "black foe of the world")
It was Gothmog who gave Feanor his mortal wound.
Finally gothmog was defeated, as was Melkor.
So there ya have it MELKOR/GOTHMOG
edit: i did a little bit of research just now. I was curious about the "beneath the stars" line. The first encounter the elves had with Gothmog was a battle under the stars before the first moon rose. (battle of Dagor-Nuin-Giliath- "Battle Under Stars" )
further edit: LOL i just had a funny thought about the last line. Their kindred spirit spoken of : The Devil!
And the "wont you guess our names" - a reference to the old line from "Sympathy for the Devil"-- "Pleased to meet you! Hope you guess my name!!!!" hahaha very cool Womdon (even if im completely wrong)
You are, of course, correct, Elvyen. Good job nailing that one. Yeah, the stars was a reference to the Battle under stars and the tears was a reference to the Battle of Unnumbered Tears. I figured Gothmog would be a good riddle subject since he's not that popular of a character, yet he was involved in many of the most monumental events in the Sil.
EDIT: Aye, that was the purpose of that last line ;). I thought the reference was at least a little clever when writing it.
ok latest riddle, was a quick effort- racing to complete it b4 the boss returns.
it's ridiculously easy but I think it sounds pretty
A lady tall and slender, she
Fair maid of shady splendor, she
Beloved wife in ageless life
Yet now, naught but a memory
Across the River Great she fled
Fair gardens planted there ‘tis said
How long ago none living know
For hidden are the paths she tread
That is some splendid prose. Independent of the riddle itself that's a very nice poem.
As for the content, I've got a vague idea but I may have to think about it for a while. My initial reaction though, was the Entwives. Is that correct?
To expand on that guess... how about Fimbrethil?
Nice job, your both right:) I was specifically thinking of Fimbrethil (aka Wandlimb)
I'm good Womdom? How're you?
Good riddle womdom and and elvyen. When I read your riddle Womdom I did think of Melkor, however I wasn't in a thinking mood the other day so I thought I was far from the mark :p
Work befuddles the mind.
Man I need to come up with a riddle, all I do is spam this thread with my guesses and small talk... I'll just have to make a mental and physical note to remember to write on up.
I'll be looking forward to seeing another Bailo-written riddle, as I recall your last one stumped us for a good long time :)
In the meantime, here's one I wrote while sitting bored at my desk, wishing I didn't have to work Saturdays:
I went to the heart of evil and struck the dark lord himself - But no Elf am I
I make mountains my home, and bear gleaming gold - But no Dwarf am I
I lended my strength to Luthien in mercy and in love - But no Man am I
I was the favored servant of the greatest of Vala - But no Ainur am I
I was King of my folk, though strong, to no realms did we lay claim
For when your spirits are lofty, all the lands look much the same
Is it Huan, the hound of Valinor?
No, not the hound of Valinor, although he does fit a few of the lines pretty well.
Yeah, but a couple don't fit at all. Oh well. I have no idea...
