Eh, Orthanc even lacked the "trinity". DPS was major boss and is what I believe kept kins from being able to do it. If you can't DPS like a mofo, Lightning challenge was about all you could probably muster. Or maybe Acid as intended.
Of course everyone wants the game to cater to their preferences. Turbine is fortunately in no position to completely write-off any of their traditional niches, though. We can bellyache about the upcoming raid format (I have myself), but in the end we're still here waiting for it with some degree of anticipation .
None of us have to be here.
True enough. I'm somewhat confused by the "I just wish people who like different things than me would go away" attitude. (Actually, I'm not really confused - real life examples abound of people who can't handle those who are different in some way, or have a different viewpoint, or like something that they don't. I shouldn't be surprised that it spills over into MMOs. It's just funny to see it expressed so blatantly.)
As for Orthanc, it's not like you could pull off any of the bosses in Orthanc without a tank or without a healer. Just because you needed high DPS doesn't mean that the other roles weren't necessary.
I like fights that require a lot of DPS - DPSers should be required to be at the top of their game just like the tanks and healers are. I think that the Shadow boss was very well done - needed top-tier DPS but also needed good positioning, a good tank or two, strong healing, and CCers at the top of their game. It had something for everybody.
No, I know. I'm just saying I think you couldn't do a lot of Orthanc challenges without exceptionally high DPS and that's something we hadn't really encountered to such a degree before IMO. The trinity was still there, (actually I think there's a quaternary because CC could be almost as important as tanking if implemented as such) - but DPS was what people needed to get over the hump - Acid zerg, definitely F/F and Saruman was instantly a whole bunch easier if you could get the first 4 mobs down ASAP.
Even a fight like Shadow would have been magnitudes easier without the 5-minute timer - and I feel the timer tips that fight more into the DPS > all else category. Of course the strat needs to be there, but hopefully you know what I'm saying.
Also with the trash - I definitely felt that mega deeps could push you through a lot of it - and was pretty much required in Lightning, Acid and Shadow wings. Healing and tanking wouldn't save you nor allow you to carry on indefinitely while your lackluster deeps whittled things down.
So while I think the trinity was still there, DPS was definitely king like never before. I hope they can step away from that in at least one of the upcoming raids. I play primarily DPS classes, but the whole thing just becomes really transparent and stale IMO. The need for deeps pretty much peaked with the BG gauntlet IMO because it all felt so frantic and exciting. Conversely, DPS in Orthanc mostly just felt like an exercise.
I understand what you're saying, and I should've been clearer in stating that I didn't really think that you meant that tanking and healing were extraneous.
I guess my point is that I like that everyone has to be at the top of their game, including the DPS. While the timers may feel somewhat artificial, I don't think that I'd see a fight as very challenging if it could be beaten with meager DPS as long as you had enough healers to keep everyone alive indefinitely.
Conversely, I don't think that a lot of us would find a fight challenging if we were able to just completely zerg through it by killing everything so quickly that stuff like aggro control and healing weren't really needed (like, say, DN trash).
That's why Orthanc Shadow Challenge and Gortheron Challenge in OD are a couple of my favorite fights - there's something for everyone to do, and they have to do it very well.
When we've had fights before that didn't require top-notch DPS, they'd eventually be seriously undermanned. To me, while that's a nice accomplishment for the people that do it, it also just highlights that those fights require little more than one good tank, one good healer, and some people who (to borrow a derogatory phrase that some non-raiders lob at raiders occasionally) know how to follow the dance steps. The only challenge in something like that is maintaining focus while you repeat the same pattern for 30-60 minutes or so.
So yes - if we get fights that are little more than straight DPS races (like the Turtle), I can understand why they seem like uninteresting one trick ponies. But, if we get fights that are DPS races but also have other important elements, then I think that those are DPS races done right.
That is how mounted combat works right now. With some creativity, it would be relatively easy to design some really challenging, really fun mounted combat fights. Think about having to protect something on the move, or to protect several things while destroying something else.
Or protecting two different, widely separated things. A boss that can't be dismounted and has the ability to dismount players combined with some other interesting mechanics. A boss that you must kill before he leaves an area. A fight where dismounted players must simultaneously do something while mounted people do something else. Example: players must dismount to climb to the top of a massive Easterling siege engine to kill/retrieve something while other players prevent enemies from following them. The enemies could be powerful enough that dismounted players stand little chance against them inside the siege engine.
There is literally a limitless number of different things you can do, even stipulating that basically everyone is DPS-ing on their horse. The sky is the limit here. It's not just "dismount, kill." That's the &&&&&& way they designed Bugud, but it doesn't have to be like that.
It's intellectually lazy to require very narrowly-defined archtypes complete very narrowly-defined tasks to complete some challenge. That penalizes players from thinking creatively, and it is sadly the way 95% of MMO's work.
It also means that once you figure out how to do something, you can do it like that every. single. time. Booooring.
tbh, mounted instances?? seriously? they first need to fix the current state of mounted combat. As a guardian there's no point in even bothering atm, it's pretty bad since you can't come close to a mob due to all lm/mns/rk/hnts just riding laps and shooting at ranged. At the moment I'm still looking for the nearest butcher to bring my warsteed too... ><
You could do some nice things, but in the current state it's just a pain controlling them.
I had hoped for more instances and tbh, kinda hoped for OD scaling since we've farmed BG so many times already. While OD was only here for like 4 months or so before the next area was opened. But would be nice to run it again, yet they have to be careful though, since a lot have done those instances already, so scaling them is fun, but how long can it entertain you?
This x-pac and instance cluster(ahem) remains the reason why I returned and then unsubbed from LOTRO. The only content we get is a raised level cap with much of the same old easy, boring questing, now with the added bore of mounted combat that offers no real challenge or really a new play style, just more of the pain of having to chase stuff (for melee). End-game players, PVMPers, continually get shafted. E.g., the complete bug-fest fail that was Dragioch, and now 3 single boss raids on some far away release. Granted, there have been some good instances of that type, like the Watcher. The problem is, they were good back when we had a large amount of end game content to pick from, not when that's just about all we had. Anyone remember when CD/etc, all the Moria instances, all the Mirkwood instances, as well as OD were run regularly? There are so few end-game players left now, though, that this shouldn't matter. Why even release instance clusters anymore? I imagine the remaining, largely casual playerbase would prefer more storyline quests and solo instances.
They already are. We're getting the entire BG cluster scaled in this update.
Its the "Instance cluster" included with the "Riders of Rohan" expansion. It was never advertised or promised to be "Instances in Rohan itself". Theres nothing geographical or historical of note to make a viable cluster out of in Rohan, and indeed all the major stuff ripe for instance content occurs in Western Rohan and later in the timeline. We'll be getting that when we get Western Rohan (eg, Helms Deep, Ents Taking Isengard)
Hello, is posible copy my Laurelin character to Bullroarer beta?. i use that http://my.lotro.com/charactercopy but the grids are empty, no character to select to transfer. Anyone can help?
Only US characters as far as I know
A problem with the Warden.
Hello mates, i am seeing since the Rise of Isengard Beta the last year that the wardens animations are diferent in bullroarer and when i play him in Laurelin.
When you use Quick Thrust, or Shield Bash, or Taunt, you can see how in each 'hit skill' the javelin is throwing to the mob, but when you did that in normal server (Laurelin) the animations are not equal even you loose dps for that.
For example you hit Quick Thrust and you see the javeling is throwing to the mob but faster you push shield bash and the warden is in normal position but "you can see how a javeling go out from your chest to the mob!", i mean you dont see the animation throwing that second javelin...
Please, in each beta test, i like very much this system on the warden´s attack and auto attacks. Put that system in the normal server when update comes!!
Another question for the beta testers:
Is there any sign of another use for the Tokens of Hytbold you need to rebuild the town? I really dont want to keep running the Hytbold dailies any longer. My Hytbold is done tomorrow for my main character and i will only play dailies for the armoury-set for my alts. Once this is done, i will stop playing them for a while. But: When they patch a vendor in, where you can change the Hytbold-Tokens for something useful, then i will still play the dailies to collect the tokens.
Any news here?
First, I'd like to think about being able to ride in a straight line, at a steady speed, without the horse teleporting back and forth across the landscape.
There isn't a shred of evidence they will ever even fix *that*, given that Mounted Combat has already served its purpose (getting people to pre-order RoR before they found out how buggy it was).
They laid off a bunch of devs, the expansion was late and buggy, the instance cluster is late and lame, they are likely behind on future content upgrades too, major bugs in class mechanics go months without even being acknowledged, much less fixed, the community website has been in "beta" for three years and still barely works, and you think they are going to magically make mounted combat actually work anytime soon?
You can already (on the live servers) convert Hytbold Tokens into Eastemnet Silver Tokens on a 1:1 basis, and use those to buy LI scrolls, consumables, ring upgrades, etc.
^ This. While scaling old instances is not a substitute for new content (and I would like to stress this point), it would certainly help keep a lot of us occupied and busy. Personally, I am quite fond of several of the SoA instances, and in some cases never got a chance to run them on level. It would be awesome to run through them again with level appropriate challenges and rewards! It is sad to see instances repeatedly becoming obsolete after each level cap increase.
Also, since the expansion itself was delayed, I am not really surprised that the bigger parts of the instance cluster were delayed as well. Is it disappointing? Yeah, but it was expected.
On the subject of 3-mans, I honestly enjoy them very much, since I am in a small kinship and normally play with a very small group of people. However, only having three slots really decreases the flexibility of the group, and more often than not you get stuck with the standard healer, tank, DPS deal. It is possible to get around this, of course, but you have to find people willing to take that challenge, and sometimes that can be difficult. Personally I like the challenge, but I know not everybody feels that way.
With full fellowship instances, it is much easier to get the needed balance. While I do like three man instances, I confess I am sad to see diminishing focus on full fellowship content. One of the things I loved so much about Mines of Moria (my favorite expansion) was that it shipped with six full fellowship instances (seven if you count Forgotten Treasury), as well as the two Eregion three mans. The quest and leveling content was solid and there was plenty to do when you hit level cap. We do not see that anymore with expansions, it seems. I liked that MoM had a balance between small instances and bigger group instances.
TL;DR version: 3-mans are fun, but so are full fellowship instances. Ideally, it would be nice to see a balance of the two.
This 100%, and I would even go as far to say that for some people it IS a substitute for new content (I include myself in this category) since it is allowing them access to content that would otherwise be trivial and not worth experiencing. How many people starting the game today would ever do Carn Dum, Urugarth or Barad Gularan?
Although I am running low on deeds to complete in these 3 instances across all my toons, there is NO REASON at ALL for people NOT to hit Carn Dum & Uru. BG, well, that's another story... I'm always encouraging people looking for their class items to stay away from the skirm vendors and go to the instance, if for nothing else then the deeds.
CD & Uru are soloable at 85, and contain MANY, MANY deeds. I would however love to see them scaled regardless, and more Orcs/Uruks added to CD for the deed.
*lol* you wrote all that rant (your word!) and you ask that "question". Really funny. :p
But what is no fun, that in some way you right. I do not like to pug in raids too, because many players can't play their class. That's the simple truth. But if we look at the "why": this game became so solo friendly, that one can hit 85 without any grouping. In fact, this game is one of the most grouping hostile MMO i ever played. You can not really do questing with your friends becaus you have so many solo instances.
Grouping content (ex. raiding) is no way rewarding. Look at the history of Fornost, i's been the only one* 6 man, befor level 50. No one wont really play that, because there was not really rewarded and it was "to long". What have turbine done? Splited it up - that player can play shorter etc. etc. - and then: making a gatekeeper machanic (you have to do part 1, then part 2, then part 3 etc.) and the reward is not even worth to speak about. Wahoooo! What a great change. Fornost is now just for players who wants an empty book of deeds.
Same for Helegrod, the one and only 24 man raid. Splitting up, but you have to do part A, and part B ... to go to Thorog. An awful ruined instance. The 3-man instances ... an another big Wahoooo! You can't do (all of) them in any combination of classes. (turbine said, is was designed for exactly that). Yes, yes i know ... skirmishes. Let me say: Wahoooo! After two years of skirmishing around i hate them. Really really hate them.
ad *) Yes the Barrow-downs i know, once a wonderful inctance and now many little pieces of nothing.
However, it is no need for anybody to group in this game. I can understand that players wo seldom or never grouped, can not play their classes in groups. That must to be learned too. I had to relize this, as i recognized there are many players at 75 (now at 85) who never been in the Rift of Nurz Ghashu and never done any groups. But this players need a chance too, to learn how to play in groups/raids. For me it is only one requirement for this players in my raid: being interested in the played class(es) and willing to learn group play. If they do: everything is ok. If they don't: "see you later alligator".

yayyyy
I understand that some players enjoy scaling old instances. I personally don't like going back to do old content. I have been there and done that. I have no problem with them scaling old content, unless it is delays or comes as a replacement for new content. This new ic is very disappointing to me so when i heard they were scaling bg i already had a bad taste in my mouth. I dont care for three mans, but I can live with them. I also have hope for the raids but with one boss raids they can easily be fail. What really bugs me is that we only get one six man, and when they come out saying they are scaling bg, to me it just seems like a coverup for not giving more new content. I realize that it probably is not that way, and that with new expansions every year turbine may not have time to release as much new group content as i would prefer. Which is why I would prefer a smaller level jump, and/or more time in between expansions as long as more group content came into the picture. Naturally, though my views come from my wants, and I realize others want different things from the game.
This is all just an initial reaction, and we wont know for sure how good everything is until we see it in action.
I would have been happier to have one 6-man instance than I am with three 3-mans. I can't say I'm surprised about this, though. I'm sure if the instance cluster stayed outside of the RoR package, we would have a raid, a 6-man and a few 3-mans. Since Turbine never said what the instance cluster would be, they can easily say, okay, we will add the cluster onto the expansion. Then, they can release the real cluster later on and charge for it.
Pls dont scale or revamp anything in Angmar - Rift, uru, BG and Carn Dum should stay original as it was in 2007/08. Those are only instances that stayed untouched...
Keep the spirit of the old times!
There are groups that run it on Landroval. If the raise it to level cap that only normal dedicated raiders would be able to go at that level. This is not most players. So if you want to run it with a PUG or with casual players or you're not geared up to the level of a dedicated raider, then you will need to lower the level. But I suspect if you lower the level that it will be harder to find a group than it is today.
Right now you can do Rift with 4 players with high levels instead of 12. Possibly even 2 or 3 with a very good group. So it is worth trying to find a group because it's relatively easy. If people refuse to go because the loot is bad, are those really the sorts of people you want to group with?
We did duo Balrog on Gilrain - Vanilicious / Nenuiale its easy with right setup and tactics.
As champion in glory i soloed From Barz - Thrang. You are fine as long as you buff up high tactical mitigation.
I found my Hytbold champion tanking set very nice coz of bracing attack heal and inc healing bonuses...
What is up with the 3, 3 mans?......
Bring back fellowship instances! That was probably the one thing I LOVED about Moria it had a awesome amount of 6-man's!
3 person instances are cool the first and second time you do them but after that it gets old fast! where as 6 man's you can do a lot more due to the type of trash and boss fights that can play out due to having 6 members.
I'm a healer and personally love healing groups which is probably what disappoints me most about 3-man instance's I guess :(
/unsigned
I'm sorry but some player's nostalgia is not a valid reason to leave Angmar untouched. Not at all! I'd even call it very selfish... Currently is very difficult to find a party for some group content there, I'd welcome rescaling the instances so more players may experience them.
I know we are now at the SOON stage for this update but surely it has to be released next week with Christmas the week after if theres any major issues it wouldnt be ideal getting a fix on the servers !?
I started reading this thread, but got a bit bogged down in the vitriol and negativity - to the extent that I felt obliged to comment, to provide something of a counterpoint view.
For info yes I have only been playing a year, but am still enjoying it immensely.
Three things I am commenting on: -
Why are there Hobbit locations/instances in Rohan expansion
Why u not release all now Turbine
Scaling of older instances.
Hobbit locations/instances in Rohan
There are a lot of comments about how Hobbit instances are not in Rohan, ive been cheated etc.
Small point, the Hobbit battle was called the battle of 5 armies. The battle near the lonely mountain in LOTR was called the battle of dale. Check out Return of the King appendices for details.
This battle is key for us, why did a hoard of easterners not rampage accross West Rohan laying waste as they went, enabling Orthac to be destroyed, Helms Deep to occur and the Theoden and his horsemen to go to the aid of Gondor?
In my view it provides an effective connection between East and West Rohan expansions, though I am not clear on how our participation works given timelines -unless its just to be seen as instances rather than our experiencing it in main timeline (which seems reasonable to me).
3/6/12 man
Can't comment on the merits of 3 .v. 6 .v. 12 man's thats different for all of us, but given development slippage I would rather have 20% of a cake now and the rest later, rather than none now and all later though YMMV.
Scaling Old Content
Finally, I have not been here since the inception of LOTRO, nothing like it (just 12 months) as such there are a good number of raids (and 6 mans) I have not been able to do on level. Given the changing population, it is likely that people like me are in the majority, then the changes being made to existing 3/6/12 mans, to make them scalable is key to longevity of LOTRO, and has to be faster than crafting new content.
I understand that this is not in the favour of those of you who have been here longer, but, it is reality, and suspect that I am one of many (possibly a majority) who will be able to do the Mirkwood instances on level for the first time, just like I've been able to do Fornost - note NO one was interested when I was passing through the Lone Lands on my champ on-level. So my sympathies for those of you who feel this, but I hope they keep scaling instances - and would like to see CD, Rift and Uru done, I love those but have yet to do CD and Rift on level.
I agree and same here. Healing challenging raids and messy 6-man is what i find most fun in this game. But absolutely nothing to do as healer during 3-man. Occasionally you might have to drop out of warspeech during last or second boss. You don't even need a healer with a good Warden in the group.
To be fair, scaled BG and SG will need a lot of healing, among other things. Probably a lot of reviving and frustration as well lol.
If you fear the scaling of instances and the separation of the players to different pools, then should Turbine better scale the players instead the instances. This would result in one big pool where everybody couldjoin the groups. Just assign the loot to the real player level and nobody has any disadvantage.
That seems backwards. Now you can get a group of players from 50 to 85 who can all join in and be able to assist and not just look around. If it's scaled you will be able to only get groups for level 85, because no one will set the level lower. People do still go to those places, even the Rift. Today a casual player can go into the rift with bad gear and bad skills and have fun. If it's scaled up then the casual players are locked out.
Yes, this could help to. This is essentially what City of Heroes did with mentors and sidekicks. However in that game it was mostly often used to power level someone.
However this idea still bypasses one problem I see and that is too many players will refuse to run any content if it's not a "challenge" and does not offer good rewards. I think the Moria instances got a lot of activity once the level cap was raised to 65, because a lot of players were able to then get into those instances with quest-only gear and not knowing all the details of the fights and the scripts and succeed, with no one gear checking them or insisting on challenge-only runs for more medalliions/loot, etc. Especially the harder instances I think were even run more than they were previously.
The only thing that disappoints me is that we're essentially getting three Turtle runs and not a large, deep raid encounter like Orthanc, OD, Bg, Rift, or Hele.
Granted, I had a lot of fun with the Watcher and Dragioch (Turtle was a complete joke), but THREE of them in one update and nothing else raid wise is just blah. Gonna get burnt out pretty quickly.
Obviously I could be totally wrong but it'll be in the back of my mind until we learn more.
Totally agree! Raids and 6-man = Fun for healer, 3-man not so much.
I'm not against the 3-mans, they should be a good time filler. I just wish they didn't make all 3 of them 3-man's.....
I'm actually really happy they are scaling the Mirkwood instances etc cause I took a break from the game right after Mirkwood came out and didn't come back until RoI so I haven't done any of them before which will be good.
Will a new epic book be included in this update?
I would think that the reason the instances are coming out first, small raids second, and no release declared for a large raid has to do with the amount of time and work that goes into each. Instances are easiest and fastest so they are being delivered as soon as they are ready. Raids take longer, but these small raids must be close enough to completion that Turbine can give a firm date for release. A large raid isn't mentioned, but that doesn't guarantee that they aren't making one. It's possible they simply have no idea how long it will take to finish or have run into a problem that may take a long time to solve and they don't want to run into the same situation as this where people are expecting a release on a certain date and they have to delay it.
I also suspect that the reason we have no Rohan raids is that they can't figure out how to co-ordinate 12 players on war steeds without crashing the instance. Trust me, in beta even the normal quest instances had problems with mounted combat and they only managed to fix it days before the release. No one had any idea mounted combat would be as much of a pain as it was to get working. The mounted combat mess was what delayed the release in the first place. And delayed it again. And again. Turbine probably moved these non-Rohan instances up in the queue so players would have something to munch on whle they work out the problems with the content they originally intended to release.
Personally, I look forward to several additions of content to Rohan (hint, hint). I imagine that much wasn't working well enough to make the ship date and will be coming down the pipe eventually. I would actually prefer Turbine to postpone new regions for a while and flesh this one out a bit more. For a huge area, it still seems bare-bones to me. I wouldn't think that that content would cost extra. Turbine always provides a few free content upgrades between major expansions.
How many TP will the part 1 of the instance cluster will cost?
So I got this huge blob on my screen saying I have an "auto-bestowed" quest. That's fine and dandy. But once I accepted, I got a second blob saying I can complete it. The problem is, I'd like to compelte it later on, but I don't like having this huge blob eating my screen space. Not everyone has a super duper dandy widescreen monitor.
Can we please move the "Finish" button to the quest interface panel? There's no need for on-screen action item once the quest has been accepted.
Known issues Update 9 posted before the game(clusters) even goes live....this is just toooooo dang funny.
You GOT to love it.
More stuttering rubberbanding electric slide(lame) Warsteeds please. Whats the next ghost town(Bree) to be redone(waste of coding)? Please oh please when you do the upcoming 6 man and raid, make sure they are more uncontrollable out DPS the timer to explosion end bosses(sins of the past reborn ala LoTRo). ohh ohhh OH and JUMPING we LOVE jumping and how you added it as a Strategy. We LOVED jumping around in the acid wing. WE LOVED it in fornost (1st boss) when you dont even touch the water and fail CM (or a person has lag issues). I honestly do not think the x y axis is working there either...but it looks pretty..... it sure does look pretty, for a place no one goes to and you cant even buy a group to go with you lol. I now go to Eoworth when ppl have to climb the tower. Run up one.. two.. three, since I have little lag(less then most folks) and sit up top watching ppl fall n break their legs or better yet die because they have to much lag to jump. Its an infinite source of amusement since there is nothing else to do for a new expansion we all purchased. Except to go grind the same skirms we've been grinding for the last FIVE YEARS. Scuttledells reminds me of the ice cave in everquest but instead of falling off ice ramps its webs.....assanine!!! Hate hate hate the new looting and auto assign, nice of you to decide I shouldnt get my class LI and give it to the class that cant even use it. We have already decided that if this holds true for raiding in the future...no pugs/casual players allowed. Simple fact that if your kin works on a assigning system(ladder,DKP etc) if that pug gets anything epic (ie symbol, orange legnedary) he/she will rarer if ever give it up simply because your kin has a system in place. Haven;t done any of the 3mans on T2 yet but im expecting more "uncontrollable" boss fights with redonklous adds in the same style as OD n beyond.
PS. Im done with your NEW player experience and have rebuilt Hytbold. Now can you direct me to the switch I need to throw.....to burn it all back down to the ground???
I'm really really REALLY looking forward to the next expansion release with mega bugs, so I can go back and grind old content we've done for YEARS.
BTW thanks for gimping my burg some more...along with hips not working 100%, Touch and Go being totally useless, Enrage not putting the range mob into melee, Bosses who are FM immune. Addle was just more icing on my Lotro comedy cake. I dont think Addle was working as intended anyway. Since when I addled a mob(caster) which is suppose to add 50% cast time to it. It would cast again before the my own 5 second CD was up...lmao. So if I DIDNT use addle and add 50% on the cast time what would its cast be.....neverending??? I dont PvP but as I hear from others it seems going from one of the most feared classes in the moors to the top of the food chain for the creeps is kind of sad....but for me...again. Its an infinite source of comedy. I now play my mini in redline if you want a healer go get a RK lol.
(walks out the door as the sarcasm settles) /emote bye
The +50% cast time, as you call it, means only that the caster will take 50% longer for his induction to finish. It has nothing to do with how often the caster can use the induction skill.
If an induction is normally 2s long, your +50% induction multiplier makes it a 3s induction. That's it.
Question: Instance Cluster: Rohan (about 1400-1500tp at store) really contains only 3x 3 man instances? From its description I guess- yes, from its price i would say- no way, its price for full IC.
So many of you complain about: that we have only 3 man instances. That they were supposed to be in february, but some are now, that it is pointless to play them. That it is a joke we will get only "single boss" raids. And more.
I still don't have IC (need to know answer to my question..).
But i think it is great idea to give us 1) some instances before main raids will come 2) to give us 3 man instances- most of you riding people just don't like (don't know why) 3 man instances. Or even 6 man, if there is raid possible. Now we all have possibility to play those instances. If we were given 6 man, i bet 90% groups will form only for 6 man. Or, if there would be locks, ppl will play other istances only after doing 6 man.
As far as i know (but it had to be confirmed by those who finished new instances) stuff won there is better (not much, but still is) then skraid stuff. And it takes (i hope) way less time to get it. For 6 weeks of constant skraiding, sacrificing many, many hours i still have 1/2 needed symbols and about 2/3 jewellery. When i realised it, i just stopped playing skraids (more then 100 skraids done for 1 symbol- that is a joke). How many times can you finish same thing to get something? Its not work, its play, i do it for fun. Its not fun at all to play Dannenglor skraid for 6th or 7th time, most with no other tank to maximise chances to get tanking earings (and you know its really not fun to do this skraid as tank), and for 6th time finding none in chest. And with no symbol and no crystal (so- no loot for you). In most skraids first thing people roll on, is relic. Not a great loot for 30min-1 hour time of boring playing. With 3 man (and scaled mirkwood) there is enough to do for month for only one toon. If you have few toon, you have more then enough to to before IC will be launched.
I really don't know how you people can complain about raids content. Have you seen them? Played them? Have you seen rewards that you already guess will be poor?
Right know we know nothing about 6 man and raids.
Single boss fight really means there will be one turtle and thats all? And what if there will be one turtle, one watcher, and one boss with many mobs coming, different phases, and different tactics needed to complete, running through different rooms/areas?
Also, for casual players, some instances are undoable (to difficult on level, even on t1); with 3 raids to choose they might find something they will find entertaining. And for raiders there might be t2, so they will find it challanging and fun as well (i like when things are fun=challanging, but i understand great many number of players who can't finish something, because it is to difficult).
Content not connected with Rohan? Maybe yes, maybe no. Lets wait for quests starting new instances. Even if no, i don't care as long as it will be in any connection with LotR.
Yes, i want, at least one, mounted raid. Difficult, challanging. But it have to be not very long- mounted combat can't be compared with standard fighting. As it is way more easier. 7 skills to use? No real need for tanking/healing/buffing fellow? So doing something for an hour or more, clicking the same 3-4 skills, killing endless mobs and bosses with more then 1 milion morale will be boring. As it is already with Bugund.
And one more thing, more general. I really like new instances are in way to Erebor, not in Rohan. I like LotR (book); I like movies (watched them to many times). What i like in Lotro is content (regions/questlines/npcs) that are not connected with neither book nor movie. Turbine won't be better then Tolkine, and most likely, then Jacksons crew- whenever game action crosses book, or movie action (Shire; Bree town; Rivandell; part of Moria; Lothlorien; even partially Rohan) i found this about 20% as entertaining as content that is new. I really like misterious Enedwaith questline with Hunt lord- its a masterpice. Very "tolkienish", but do not touching any of Tolkinen's works. Lone Lands with Radagast, Angmar, Evendim instances; dol-dinen part of ND, trollshows (excluding Rivandell), Eregion, Enedwaith, part of Moria (water works with turtle and vile maw, foundations of stone), really great great river. We know from books this regions exist. But it is only up to imagination and creativity of game authors to form this lands, give them shape, but with Tolkien's spirit. And for us to explore them. And enjoy them.
Do you want to do something connetcted with hobbit? (perhaps good marketing idea) great! Do Dale, Erebor- even from book "the hobbit" we know very little about this lands. Make Beorns house, but make it marginal place connected with some hidden questline that not everyone need to find (like with Tom Bomadil's house-we can visit it, but there is not a lot of action happening there). If you will make us follow the same path, speak with same npc that Bilbo spoke (and fellowship, if we will follow path->west rohan->gondor->gates of morodor); it will be boring, bad, repetition of books. Not very entertaining.
And yes- please do not make instance "defence of helm's deep". There is enough action in Rohan, enough other forts, villages or ents to defend, or orc camps to be burned- we don't need to fight shoulder to shoulder with Aragorn. He already won his battles, he don't need our help. Let us fight our own battles.
It's funny how Turbine pushed on us an instance cluster that is not yet done. There is ONE quest that works in all the instances, which is Goblin Throne Challenge. That's it. Now they have a downtime for today, which they already extended twice, and for tomorrow again. This just means they're doing beta test on live. That's it. They're not done with their work yet, and still they pushed it into us.
I haven't played many MMOs, i'll grant you that, but turbine team is ridiculous compared to other teams I've seen. Every time they make new content it's always delayed and defective. Look at mounted combat. Look at these instances. Look at the many updates they've made on systems which were/are a total failure. Radiance was ridiculous. Audacity is bad and required many, many changes to game balance which were, of course, made a long time after audacity was implemented. That to make it even playable, not good or fair. Open tapping generated a big outrage when it was implemented, because it was terrible. Mounted Combat is totally unbalanced, unfinished and defective. The new interrupt system was obiously not given a lot of thought to by the devs. Some classes are totally neglected, some others can solo small fellowship instances. PvMP is always unbalanced to one side or the other, but more than that, it's unbalanced inside each side: some freep classes are amazing, some others are lughable, and you only see them around the moors because some players are stubborn/masochistic. And how come do we only have one pvmp arena in this game? One, since the start, only one. A new one was never made. And everytime they try to make it more interesting and 'revamp' it, it tends to get worse. Every change or new content in this game takes ages to be developed, and when it is, it's always incomplete and has several bugs and side effects. It's like if the dev team never thought of the game as a whole, but as a series of unconnected systems and neglect the impact that every change or system has on the other parts of the game. It's a joke.
I don't play this game because I think it's good, creative, interesting, challenging or any of that. I still play it because I've already put so much effort into it and made friends here, and it would all go to waste if I went to another game. Because honestly, this game has so much potential but turbine puts it all to waste and treats us like fools.
I really like the new Bree design, but..
- the new texture of the houses (that carcass style) isnt as good as the old one.. the new one is way to light .. this also affects the breeland housing zone very badly..
- the first house on the left when you enter bree from the west (just after the stable) is somehow really strangely build into the earth/hill.. you can see it when you go around the building
new instances and their loots just are disgusting. did them countless of times and got only purple at challenge mode. not just me but my fellows also. never see better quality items than purples so its just depends your luck to get a good item. at least one of the members of fellowship got something good at isengard and before but now , man wth is that spending time on a content and cant get anything its just riddiculous.
scaled mirkwood instances are just pure ..... why should we bother to do them? did warg pens , sword hall , dungeons and sammath gul and got only bounties at challenge mode never ever a single item not even a purple loot droped.
is that the way turbine tries to distract his customers because they cant even publish their promised content at given date? phew howmany times I should see this happens. you guys have to sit down and think about how cant lose your customers seriously...
Just canceled my subscription. Way to many games out there that provide better service. Subscribed since release im done. Read patch notes stating 3 mans now and then 3, 12 mans later. What I failed to read was 3, 12 man 1 boss raids. Once I read that I canceled.
Im not paying again 70 bucks for ROR, just to get ripped off ever again. ROR questing was legit, I had fun, but I didnt rush it, I read every quest, took my time, and sorry but im not farming for months!!!!!!!!!!!! to rebuild hytbold. It shouldnt take that long in the first place. Im not farming for months inside skirms for level 75 o, i mean 85 teals. Im not excited to play, I log on to feel heroic, to take on hordes of enemies, to play with others. You give me no reason to upgrade my gear and to even log on. Thats fail on your part.
Turbine, or WB or who ever you are, do you want to make money???? Do you want to stay in business??? Get your *#&@ together and pay some more people to make this game for Casual / and Hardcore gamers. Lord of the Rings is to good for your fail business model.
Why do people keep saying this? RoR did not cost $70. It cost $40 and you voluntarily spend an extra $30 for some fluff. That is all. Just because you paid an extra $30 for fluff does not mean you get more instances than people who were smart and spent only $40 or paid with TP. Everytime someone sayd $70 I know that they're really trying to make it look like an expensive expansion when it was not.
If you made a mistake thinking that $70 bought you more stuff than was listed, then you need to suck it up and admit that it was your mistake instead of implying that Turbine was cheating you.
Actually $70 was the basic edition. I say basic because it was the only real version that included the Instance Cluster. An expac without an IC isn't a real expansion. Now, fanboys like you can say that $40 bought you RoR, but fanboys like you are why Turbine thinks it can use and abuse its customers. Turbine only provided a real expansion at even $70 because they didn't have a legal leg to stand on and were going to be destroyed in court after people bought the expac due to advertising that it included an Instance Cluster.
Instance Cluster is included in all of the versions:
http://rohan.lotro.com/buy.html
IC is shown as last bullet for all three versions.
Absolutely false.
Though I have no doubt this was a rumor that many people believe. Too many players blindly believe any rumor out there. No one should ever buy anything based on rumor, instead look at what the actual product says before you type in a credit card number.
Well, it's a rather moot point as none of the three options for this product, launched on October 15th, included instances, instance clusters or anything of the kind unless you regard solo quests named instances as somehow applying to any game that requires a network connection to play.
Therefore everyone who purchased this, no matter the edition, has every right to feel cheated.
There is a saying among my people: They fight over an empty box.
No, they all include instance clusters as part of the price; the only thing is the instances were late. You do NOT need to purchase them separately if you purchased Rohan expansion (pre-order or post-order or with TP). Currently this means there are 3 three-person instances available today for everyone who purchased Rohan. More are coming later.
