Re: Band of Hope Family friendly christian guild.
Not one flame in this entire thread. that is truly a credit to this server's population. I want everybody on Landroval to have my babies, because I love you all!
:D
I'd be cool with joining a christian kinship if I didn't already have a ship of kin :( but good luck and you can call upon Ovain Frostbeard, the racist dwarf anytime!

Re: Band of Hope Family friendly christian guild.
Firstly -- welcome to Landroval, Band of Hope! I think you'll find that, with a few exceptions, the community here is pretty darned good. Good luck with your kinship.
Secondly -- some of the "contributors" to this discussion should seriously check on the status of their transparent housing units before chucking the proverbial rocks. I'm no Christian -- a fervent deist as a matter of fact. But I find it interesting that the first controversial comments were not posted by the original poster, who was simply trying to recruit like-minded folks for their kinship.

Re: Band of Hope Family friendly christian guild.
There was a time years ago when I would have seen something like this and went "Wow, that is so stupid." Of course, I also stuck my finger in a light bulb socket once(only once...though I did take a second jolt from a car battery later). Getting back to the point, though, I was raised in a church-going atmosphere(heck, my roommate's my old preacher's son), and was no stranger to doing things Christian-style. Just...I couldn't imagine actually joining an all-Christian guild or clan.
I dunno, maybe it had that stigma of "lesser" quality, kinda like Christian rock(totally a personal opinion, don't beat me). Something about it just made me think it'd be watered down somehow.
Then, one day, I actually sat down and gamed with "official" Christian gamers, just out of curosity. It was Battlefield 2, if I remember right. Man, those guys were pretty good. It was a little weird playing a violent FPS without being allowed to curse, but after a few rounds, I realized I didn't even notice. In fact, the fact that the atmosphere lacked constant cries of "lol pwnd juu!" and such was more than a little refreshing. I've been back to that server a few times since.
Now, that all needs a disclaimer. I'm a hard-drinking chain-smoking foul-mouthed individual. There's NO way I'd ever be(rightfully) allowed into a guild like this, and I would never be able to handle it. That said, I wish you guys all the luck in the world and hope people give you the respect you deserve.

Re: Band of Hope Family friendly christian guild.
Haven't heard a single one of them(at least, that I remember off-hand), but just since you can admit that 90% of them are bad, I can trust that they're the better ones. ;D
Still, the point stands that there's a definite "watered down" stigma about Christian-oriented stuff. But I can't say I've EVER had Christian gamers come off as anything but pleasant to be around. Even if they keep shooting me in the head in FPSes.

We'll still group with ya'. Just realize that most of us have the profanity filters turned on. If you did start cussing away, we wouldn't be able to understand you. =)
I don't think any of us claim to be perfect individuals. In real life I tend to be pretty foul-mouthed when I'm by myself, unfortunately. To the best of my ability I shield the guild from my anger and other personal issues (which arise externally to the game but often bleed over into the game if I'm not careful). Being around such... well, "kind" is the only word I can use to describe it... people tends to have an ameliorating and analgesic effect on me.
In life I find that if you hang around with a group of people for long enough, you tend to assume some of their attributes. My guildmates are kind and generous, and it's having a positive effect on me.

Re: Band of Hope Family friendly christian guild.
Okay,
As much as I would also like to sit here and have discussions, debates on Theology, Ideology, and all atrocities that have happened on this planet since the dawn of time whether they had anything to do with any religion or not.
The Mod's have told us this is not the place for that. So I for one am going to refrain from doing this. So can we let this go back to a recruitment thread?

Re: Band of Hope Family friendly christian guild.
Ok, Tal. Sign me up! I'll join! ;)

Re: Band of Hope Family friendly christian guild.
I wish you all luck, and I think you have the right idea on what you expect of your members.
If there is a group of people who want to form a kinship with similar values, what's the problem with it? Isn't that what fellowships ARE FOR? I'm sure that A) They won't exclude people (Well unless they are just total jerks but I mean anyone would do that) B) Conduct themselves in a quality manner.
Now if they ran around preaching to random people about Christ(Which is not specifically mentioned in the lore, and therefore has no place within the game in a roleplay point of view) then there would be issues. But I would assume that they themselves would not wish to bring that kind of flak onto themselves either.
Leave em be and let them enjoy themselves.

Re: Band of Hope Family friendly christian guild.
Just stumbled upon this thread and honestly happy to see more players showing up and forming kinships, personal beliefs are just that no matter what they believe as long as it's not harming another. I'm glad though to read nearly right off they are taking a good stance at saying this is for like minded people are aren't going to be door knocking in game seeking converts. That alone should have stopped alot of peoples worries and knee jerk reactions.
Hope your enjoying the game and don't sweat the trolls there will always be trolls around. :)

Re: Band of Hope Family friendly christian guild.
My only encounters with Band of Hope people in game have been in passing but they've been fine. Helpful on occasion, always have returned a bow, and never once brought up religion as an issue. As far as I'm concerned they're good neighbors on Landroval. And I could say the very same thing about The Knights of The White Lady.

Re: Band of Hope Family friendly christian guild.
Okay, I've cleaned up this recruitment thread.
Like so many other kinship threads I've had to chime in on...this one is no different.
Please remember that we allow all kinships to post recruitment threads on our forums (as long as they operate under the in-game policy). This includes, religious, athiest, vegetarian, gay/lesbian-friendly groups.
For more information about these policies, please check out this thread.
Remember that actually discussing religion and politics is against the rules.
Please, let's keep this thread back on topic, which is recruitment. Just as you would in any other kinship recruitment thread: If you're not interested in joining, or sending your well-wishes, there really is no need for you to respond.

Re: Band of Hope Family friendly christian guild.
So, there's been some new interest in the kinship, and I figure this thing hasn't been bumped in a while.
So, here's the ol' heave-ho!
For the glory of the Band!

Who did we lack in allowing into the guild?
We have a few people who are in the guild who do not profess a faith. They are there because they were looking for an guild that was active in the game.
So again who are we discriminating against?
Show me?
If you can't then stop being an antagonist on things you have no clue about.
About Hijacking the thread? What the heck are you talking about? Have you complained in other recruitment threads from othe guilds like Army of Darkslayers, or Shadow Company?
Both of them have been on the front page in the past week, or is it you just want to stir trouble in two kinships threads, namely us, and KWL's thread.
We (as in kinships) bump threads to let players out there that might be searching for kins with similar interest as their own.

Re: Band of Hope Family friendly christian guild.
Yes, most trolls start out their posts by depreciating themelves. I'm shocked that such an over the top satire went over both of your heads. Since you completely misread my intent I'll just delete it.
