Well, something's just changed, because both my box and my friend's connected and started updating at about the same time - different OS, different ISP - so whatever you just did, Turbine: nice work. :)

Well, judging by the amount of players in lotro, I estimate it will be fifty four hours, twenty eight minutes and thirty three seconds until my game actually patches. Oh, and eleven milliseconds. >.>

I have been at it for around 30 minutes and I am at 50% patched. Go Turbine!
If you think about it they probably expect and have service ability for a max load of around 50% of their player base to be online at peak hours. Turbine (and rightly so) is not going to go out and double their current hardware capacity for a one time affair. After everyone gets patched and sees the shiny new stuff all will be normal. There is nothing to see here anymore, move along.
p.s. You should have been around for the EQ release and the first two patches, straight from beta to down for 1 week. First patch, down for 4 days.

Hours of waiting...
Got game patched.
Logged on.
When hitting "Sell all" button at vendor in Lnanuch; game crashed to desktop.
Now I'm stuck in the Connect <-> Retry (00:59) loop once again with the "An update error occurred".
Yay!

WELL....I did not make it to hour number 7 of trying to get connected...just short of that time. But it would appear as though I at least now have a connection and will see how much longer it will take to actually get into the game from this point. I wish you all luck and hope if there is a next time perhaps they provide a pre-release option of DL to the VIP's and other long standing lifer members!!

My launcher hasn't even gotten that far to update the message.....That should be the first thing it does before even trying to log you in. As far as their continued attempts to improve performance as needed, I doubt very much it hasn't been needed, and will continue to be needed, for at least the next 24 hours if not longer, if not needed since they combined the whole planet into one server farm. This is just some really bad planning and lack of foresight. You wait to connect, finally connect and examine and update programs, then sit at examine data for who knows how long, only to finally update the game data, then get to wait for a log in. Three times you get shoved into lines. The thing should give priority to VIPs first and foremost, and continue with you right through to logon. Then it can drop you and move on. That's what priority access means.

Sigh... Connected earlier, patched. Then got stuck at connect. Finally was able to log in 6 hours later... Woohoo!!. Got as far as Bonevales, crash to desktop... back to the waiting game.
I want to know wether others are also crashing out. I've never had any problems with this before, and I've read about the LUA conflicts, so no plugins were active. There was also no noticable cause, I was only arranging my Minstrels skills, whilst standing next to the npc. T'was strange I tells thee...
Oh wells... maybe when I log back in, in another 6 hours, I can see if I can replicate it, or at the very least, endevour to stay on for more than 10 minutes.

Ok just walked to Mordor and back (they have great onion rings there). Let's see if the loading screen is connected yet.

That is all you have to do to get the updater to connect. Simply walk into Mordor.

I do appreciate Turbine are trying their best. I do appreciate that they're a lot more stable than other MMO's I've played, and that as consumers we are nothing but an inpatient bunch of ungratefulness. I also appreciate that they don't make me play their game, etc etc.
But I don't appreciate the sheer lack of communication from their team. The forums are noteably void of anyone official, even simply to poke their heads in here and try and make us smile (I suppose I should be grateful that they have at least given us this thread to complain in). Twitter is noticeably quiet also. They could have rolled the patch out on background download for the last week. They could have calculated how many pre-orders of RoI they've sold, then accounted for how many players they expected to return - because they must have business models for it. But they haven't, so we're all here sharpening our pitchforks.
Well, that's my whine over.
