So, what do you think Turbine will say once all this is over and everyone is in the game? Spin it into a possitive, and say "there are so many people playing our game some people were waiting 11 hours, just to connect to the patch server!"

Unlike some of the earlier (and probably current) posters, My update did NOT stop at examine game data and is currently blasting through update game data at a pretty good rate. Like 1.8 kb/s.
I am travelling and I paid 5 bucks to get freaking WLAN for 48 hours! Come on, let me in :)
I will assume people are past the initial connecting then. I cant figure out why mine will not connect.
so out of curiosity i decide to try run the patch on another of my systems, within 5 mins i was patching, my main comp and gaming comp have been waiting about 8hrs now, whats up with that Bull####e !!!!!!!!! the worst part is its patching on the wifes comp , gl me trying to play on that :(
That has happened to me exactly..... back to square one...
1 hour and 20 mins on examine game data, seriously Turbine?!
Arrrgh! I feel like I'm getting caught up in this madness! I've been working peacefully all day, until I peeked at this forum and discovered the patch is hitting today. Now all I can do is stare at the clock and aimlessly click through spreadsheets, wishing I could retroactively call in sick, personal day, floating holiday, something.....
I am a patient person and really do appreciate the fact Turbine worked so hard to get the RoI out a day early, however, I pray that I do not have a problem here for I have been trying to connect to the patch sever since 6:30 am and it is now 5:30 pm. If this is to be expected, so be it. The problem is that if I have an issue on my end of this enterprise I do not know it.
Age Of Conan just keeps looking better and better to me at the moment.
I was only trying to tell others that it actually is working, telling players that you are already lvl 70 is probably a lot worse.
Well, it appears the linking to pictures of cats sorted it for me!
So its now 22:30 here in the UK, and still unable to connect to start patching.
Frankly this is disgustingly appalling service.
If I hadn't already paid for the next three months up-front I'd cancel my sub and delete the game.
Not good enough by any standards.
All The Best
Creepy... red X went for hours, I complain here and seconds later I am patching XD
Edit: OK, actually I am stuck on 'Examine data' now :P
I got an official reply from some dude high up in lord of the Rings,
he sent me this webcast.

So when you restart do you have to wait again hours to connect? or it does get connected and goes at game data at once? i am asking this because it took me like 3 h to just get past over that red x and now stuck at game data

Entering Hour Six of the little red connecting X for me. Good times.
It always baffles me that in this day and age, companies can't see things like this coming. I wonder if the Turbine employees go home and think to themselves "man, I did a good job at work today".
I don't understand what's got some peoples panties in a bunch. Have I missed something?
Here's my understanding of it all:
- Most people are either at school/college or work.
- They pre-warned us about downtime possible throughout Monday.
- It's the middle of a Monday.
- The official launch date isn't even until tomorrow.
- Apparently, they're 'ahead of schedule' on RoI actually going live but have some additional downtime due to patch server overload, even though they already told us they'd be down for much of Monday.
Here are some things you an do in the meantime:
- realize that this is par for the course for most MMO launches & upgrades (SWG, WoW, EQ2 have all had this happen)
- start the launcher
- walk away
- read a book
- go outside
- take a hike (er. I mean 'walk')
- make some RL-friends or get together with the one's you haven't called since MoM.
- get a life (if only for one day)
