I hope the first fix is the vault. One big vault that you have to scroll down is not an improvement.

I hope the first fix is the vault. One big vault that you have to scroll down is not an improvement.
I didn't really think that it could be a worse layout than what it was but I was wrong. Could you please give players the option for the 'classic look'? This new layout is the worst idea I've seen since starting a land war in Asia.
Agreed.

Try going in against a Sicilian when death is on the line.
It's worse.
Anyway, one thing that is terribly important to learn about the vault is the little drop-down menu at the top that lets you do sorting... it's going to be really, really helpful when trying to find certain important things. Yes, I really wish we still had the classic spaces AND this, but those spaces were a bit unwieldy, too.
I'd be happy if we had an adjustable pull out slider to allow us to change the size of the bank vault.
Also, this new way doesn't allow us to organize items within our bank vault to our liking.
Poor design by people who have different ideas on how they'd like it set up.
I say give the players the option on how they'd like the bank vault layout.
I absolutely hate this new vault. Sure I can sort by chest, but there is no way to see everything a chest contains without scrolling and no way to organize what is in each chest.
I would love to have an option to use the classic vault. Hopefully someone will come up with a lua script to implement classic vault behaviour.
This was already discussed in a huge amount of details. At the moment the classic look is not possible to recreate, however the team was looking at creating something similar whereby folks can see everything on their screen and use tabs as well. Relax, it'll come with a bit of patience! :D The functionality is there, and the features are awesome, just some funky new design UI elements would make it perfect.
I'm not necessarily a fan of how it is right now, but I'm certainly liking the direction it's taking us in. At the moment it needs some adjustments to the UI and an increased ability to see more items at a time. But I think the customization and sorting options have a lot of potential.
Yes, if you were not in beta and did not have access to the beta forums you have no idea how hard Ransroth and company worked trying to improve the new bank. They know what we want. We just have to give them time.
As mentioned above there is a filter drop down menu. That helps a lot. There is also a search field.
If only there had been an avalanche of complaints in both closed and open beta about this new bank..
Oh, wait..
Agreed, the new vault is horrible.
Not going to complain about the new vault -- I love it personally.
What I want to ask...I can't seem to buy any more vault space past the 120 max...and neither can my kin-mates...is this a known issue?
Thal
Yeah, trying to remain positive about the changes, but the vault was very obviously conceptualized by someone who does not play, or at least does not craft. The inability to manage resources with logical groupings is a very significant hindrance. How many TP to get the functional old one back?
I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really dislike the new vault design...
No, that's not quite right...
I really HATE the new vault design with a passion!
Sorry, Turbine, but that is an AWFUL implementation. Managing items in that new vault design is like trying to find things in my wife's purse: first you have to figure out which dang purse she's using this week, then figure out which pocket she might have stuck it in, then sort through tons of **** in the purse trying to find whatever it is you're looking for.
Awful, awful, awful design!!!
I can live with everything else.
I was hoping beta got this changed, it's flat out horrible.
HATE the new vault!!!!!
I have to agree. The new vault is awful.
I'd be happy if I could even SEE the bank right now! The vault NPC in the Shire housing instances are completely not there for the characters on my account. I've tried leaving and re-entering, and even backed all the way out of the LOTRO client and logged back in. No soap. Bugged it.
Return the old vault PLEASE.
New vault is a click and scroll fest and no matter how much irritating clicking and scrolling we do we still can't see our items in meaningful groupings, eg LIs sorted for level and if to grind for relics, or possibles or level up first; xp runes in ascending order, crafting per tier - eg boiled, unboiled, 3 or more components, other craft made components - I had 2 -3 tiers per bag and could see instantly what I had for each tier; gear sorted by damage and mitigation type, cosmetics by outfit. 10 categories can never replicate this as my vault was organized by row into 30 or more categories.
We have also lost the ability to access shared storage from the vault - yet more clicking. Even the chest selection is a drop down menu instead of 2 rows of buttons as our chests were.
Each char will require a list as to what is in each of the 10 chests given it will vary per character.
I'm not a programmer, but seems like identifying a player's item with vault location 1-120 is no more db load than identifying it as chest 1-10. Perhaps loading 30 items when we open the vault is an issue, but against that is the additional database coding and ghastly number of additional clicks each player will be performing.
Why do it??? Imagine someone took your filing cabinet and arranged all your papers alphabetically and said you had to accomodate them into 10 lumps with search features like events held on Sept 22 (the equivalent of daggers and swords imo - too specific to be of use given a chest could be used for weapons). The only way to locate what you need is by making extensive handwritten lists.
Why did you do this to us???
The FILTERS are there for a reason. Use them and your life will get a LOT simpler. I disliked the new design at first until I had to go hunting for some things in various character vaults in Beta. Suddenly I could get an answer with just a glance without wondering if I'd ever accidentally stashed something in a different chest and forgotten.
Those filters are the key, seriously. Obviously you're free to continue in whatever feelings you care to, but give the filters a go at least.
I like the new vault. Once you get used to the dropdowns, you still have items separated into chests but they can be as large as you want now. All crafting mats in one chest is great.
I'd like an option for a list view rather than the current thumbnail view though, to show more items at once without scrolling.
First, your faithful Beta testers pleaded, begged, pouted, and ranted incessantly, vociferously, and eloquently about how horrible the new vault was. What you're seeing is a vast improvement over the first version.
Second, it can never go back because in this format is can be endless expanded. (Now, if ONLY you could actually BUY more vault space, that would be wonderful, right now, expansion past 120 seems either to be 1) bugged; or 2) not in live.)
Third, go ahead and rant, because that's half the fun of gaming, isn't it?
Well, personally I LOVE the new vault. So many icons look alike that having the name there makes it SO so so so so so so so so easy to find what you want. No more hovering over...waiting for the popup....that's not it....hover...wait...no...hove r...no...hover...
Yes it needs some work, but it is WAY better. The design may not be what you like, but that doesn't make it AWFUL, it's just different from what you are used to.
Calm down.
With the LUA scripting and the devs hard at work, you'll be able to line up all your items in whatever manner you like in no time.
Also: you CAN stretch the vault vertically (not horizontally yet) and that makes it easier to see sometimes, but with the filters and such I usually only have 1-20 items on screen at a time now.
I LOVE IT!
You can, assign things to bags, just like myself and probably many others have done.
If you right click on something in the vault, it well give you the option to withdraw, send to Main Chest or send to Chest 1-10. Send it to one of the numbered vaults, along with everything else you want to put in said vault. And you know what's better? There is no SPACE LIMIT ON THE CHESTS. That means you can have 2 chests of 50 spaces and 1 of 20 spaces if you really want to. That's a tonne more useful than the old bank vault.
Not to mention the aforementioned filters, which let you filter out everything you aren't looking for.
Not sure if it was just me but i tried dragging only a few perfect tea leaves from the vault ot my inventory and no matter how i tried the only option was the whole lot came to my inventory... What happened to split in the vault? was so useful taking 5 of one thing by holding the shift key down then dragging to my inventory giving me the option on how many i wanted to transfer....
Bring back the old vault this new one i really do not like and for a crafter its a nightmare if this split drag and drop is not available anymore.
Since they have now been taken over by Warner Bros, I dont' think we are goign to hear much about our complaints that the new bank SUCKS! I was in the beta and posted / complained about the bank there - and I was not alone. People want to organize their possesions the way they want - NOT have the order dictated. I feel that all these posts are going to fall on deaf ears anyhow - they have all that new blood in the game who don't know any better and will spend the money on the game that we won't. I dont' think Turbine / Warner Brother's will care at all - this whole F2P thing is just a way to make a lot more money at the gamer's expense.
**sigh**
I feel better now ... carry on....
no changes from beta ... it still SUCKS !!
i hope something to make it like the old can be done in not too much time
Yea, this new vault is the absolute WORST. I'm seriously considering quitting this game, it's that bad. The ****-tastic vault topic was a much discussed topic during Beta, but Turbine completely ignored us. It's really disappointing that Turbine doesn't even give a **** about the player's opinions.
I'm also having other technical issues that were a problem in Beta that weren't fixed, and right now, the game is practically unplayable for me.
I'm pissed, Turbine... PISSED!!!
Are you kidding me? They not only listened to us but they went to bat for us, convincing their bosses to give them time to work on the vault that was not slated for any improvements.
No, they didn't get all the improvements in that they wanted to (but are working on those now for a future update) but they did get as much in as they could.
Yes, the vault is horrible. As far as the sort and filter menus... that means I have to memorize every item I put in my vault. So should I come across an interesting or useful item and put it away for future use, how will I find it again? I'll have to remember it and go looking for it specifically. And putting all my crit items in a specific chest, does not sort them by tier. I had them all sorted by tier. So far, I've seen comments from two people on these forums that like this new vault system. All the other commentors hate them, as well as everyone I've talked to about them since the servers came back up. Don't get me wrong, there are many other new features with this patch that have taken the fun out of it... but the vault is by far the worst.
I've only seen complaints about it on the forums. In game however, there was a lot of love for it. Oh well, can't please the people that won't be pleased about it?
I'm not a big opponent of the vault, personally. It's one of those things that I can work through - although it's a big pain in the keester to do all this reorganization.
HOWEVER...
It's effectively driven a few key OCD members of my kin away from the game permanently. They just can't deal with the visual layout (or lack thereof) of the vault. They are very meticulous about their setups. Honestly, I can't begrudge that opinion - even though I don't share it. That, along with the dynamic layering, the new looks, and the Store is a bit too much *change for change's sake* for some.
Did you miss the chest dropdowns? Or the ability to sort by type, or type in names, or yeah... My reaction was a shock as well (in beta), but quickly it became more useful than the old layout. An ability to name chests, and possibly the ability to display/pin multiple chest contents and drag them around would be nice, but, well, you guys should have seen vault 1.0 - nothing but a dropdown list of jumbled things.
It really, really, really sounds like everyone in this thread hasn't figured out how to use the vault. You can drag to lengthen it. You can view one chest at a time and sort things into 10 chests (that's a lot, more than I need, and I'm a heavy crafter on many characters), sort out ingredients, sort by type of materials, type in names.... Only thing missing is cute icons for you to drag around to make patterns in a chest.
Exactly, they did. Anyone saying otherwise just wasn't there, didn't pay attention, or is ranting. I doubt they'd change the vault "solely for the sake of changing it" - how would that make sense? Like they don't have other things to do and add, and they have so many people with so much time on their hands that they have nothing better to do. Clearly the vault either 1) takes up less memory or works better and/or 2) enables them to add extra space much more easily (what, you guys don't want more space? :P).
There are more than 2 people in who like it on this thread alone.
One reason you are seeing mostly negative responses is that those of us that gave it a chance and learned to work with it are waiting for the general hysterics to taper off as people learn the new system.
Yes, some will still hate it and some will come to love it and most will come to realize that it's just a vault and not worth throwing a tantrum over.
Personally I started out hating it, then they made some changes and the more I used it in beta the more I missed it when I played live. With the upcoming additions (chest naming for one) this vault will be far superior to the old one IMO.
Fact: There is no going back, it is what we have, they are working on more improvements.
A few tips:
- You can pull the vault down lengthwise to make it longer
- Double clicking will remove an item to your pack or right-click and choose withdraw
- To move an item, right click it and choose the destination.
- For crafter's it's great to sort your crafting into more than one chest (or sort by tier if you want). Putting similar items in the same chests on all your crafter's will help find things (IE all resources in chest 1, components in chest 2, crit items in chest 3 etc...).
- You can put as many or as few items in each chest up to your total slots available. No more bleed over into the next chest.
- Use the search if you're looking for a specific item, you don't have to have the exact name to search for something - even partial words work
- Use the filters if you're looking for a type of item
You can make the vault window bigger (and the wardrobe and shared storage windows as well) just by putting the cursor on the border and dragging it to the size you want it to be - same thing with how you change the size of a window in any version of Windows. I was easily able to make it big enough to see everything in a single chest (since they left the items stored by chest the way we had them before launch).
I like it personally - I do agree that using the filters does make it even better. Some people just don't like change I guess.
I was annoyed with it from the beginning of Beta, and even though the changes they made during Beta made it less bad I still can't stand it compared to the current vault. My main aggravation is that Turbine has dictated how I must organize my stuff -- what good does sorting Blue Balls by name do me? Now I have to memorize which ones have which value? I just went looking for my Badges of Taste, but I had no idea what they were called. I missed them the first time through the vault, and had to go back to the Inn League HQ to find out what Ivy wanted, then go back and do a search to find out where the initial system sort had filed them. No idea which vault it was in, still, but ended up annoyed again that I had to make an extra run to figure out the name. And then having your different suits of gear in a tidy location fails. Yes, there are 10 chests, but if you're got 6 or 8 for crafting and some more for pots and food and different types of weapons and so on, there's not a lot left over. And were legendaries for passive advancement in chest 3 or chest 7?
And some of us who tried to work with it from the beginning are still fighting it rather than using it.
Voicing your objections to losing functionality is not quite the same as throwing a tantrum. Nice loaded rhetoric, though.Quote:

Starting at the top, you can't pull it sideways, and you can't pull it down far enough to show all your stuff: since they have the names in there it takes up a lot more real estate than the old system. "Choose the destination" is annoying because you can't see the contents of the bag you're dropping it into. Using the search works fine if you know the name. What's the name of my radiance pants? I have no clue, and I don't *want* to have to remember it.Quote:

You're welcome to love it, of course, but let's not hear any more "you're having hysterics and throwing tantrums, and if you don't love it you haven't given it a chance."
This new vault just instantly killed the game for me.
I log in my Loremaster to see all the "improvements" that the F2P system was gonna bring and spend some of my points on wardrobe and shared vault space and what do I see when I check my vault...
A jumbled mishmash of **** where my carefully articulated system of organization is scrapped.
This new vault is the pits... I cannot stress how much this has destroyed what little hope I had left of coming back to this game now that all my friends have split thanks to F2P...
It used to take a second or less to locate items in my bank. With the new layout and fancy filtre features it will now take minutes.
Do the people who champion changes like this one actually play this game?
Turbine received the same flood of feedback on the dislike and cumbersomeness of the new vault view in Beta, but pushed it out as it was..........
Yep, add my vote......it's broke......please fix it.
The below should be above every desk in Turbine:
If it's not broke, don't "fix" it.
On the good side, one thing I did like about the new bank was the ability to purchase with gold all of the slots you wanted without the silly level requirement.
Now - for future reference - if they allow us more bag space, simply double the amount of slots each bag can hold. Do NOT make it auto organize. Simple change, grateful players. Try to over think it and many will be irritated.
Good idea but poorly executed. Whereas you do gain some nice features (filtering, search, etc.) with the new system, you also lose some benefits as well. I see 3 fixes that should satisfy most proponents of the "old" style vault, including myself.
First - Add width adjustment capability (similar to the height adjustment)
Second - Allow users to toggle on/off item descriptions (allowing for more than 2 columns of items)
Third - Allow manual sorting by the player (automatic sorting should be an option)
I believe with these few fixes the vault system could be as close to ideal as possible.
Can you tell how many did not read the dev diary or the threads talking about the new vault and what to be prepared for? :D
The new vault is different. It takes some getting used to. But once you get used to it and start playing around with it, you're going to find it far more powerful than the old one. And they've said that there are a lot more changes, fixes, and improvements to come on top of that.
It's impossible to go back to the old. It's not just a visual thing. There were issues with the old one, and it was part of the reason lag was so bad in some areas. It also couldn't be expanded anymore or work with the new tech behind the store. The new gives a huge number of options for expansion and improvement. And you'll notice in places like 21st and the moors that the lag is much lighter. The vault has a good role in that.
Some of us said all along it would be some of the old guard most resistant to change that would have a hard time with this just because it's different in how they keep things, so no surprise there.
Obviously no one was listening to the hundreds of people who disliked this design in beta - so what was the point of people asking for improved functionality or no changes during beta when no one was even listening. For me personally its many more clicks to get to see what I want. I would have prefered an option for it to remain as is. I dont like the auto sort per vault bag its annoying. I like to group this personally - if you can turn off or on the autosort thats one better function but overall its too much clutter sorted in alpha which doesnt make sense when using visuals to find items. Who looks for names to find a pot or crafting item. We should know what they look like and prefer to have these items grouped together.
You listened to a minority of people complaining about the icon rings for quests.. this sort of change dumbs things down for me. Why even spend time to fix this look when it wasnt really causing any problem.
I prefer to be treated like an intelligent being who likes to have an option sorting my inventory. Thanks for not listening during beta and pushing ideas that have a negative impact on this game.
OK, I too really hate it. But - except for one BIG issue - I think I could learn to live with it. Maybe even like it - the sorting is a multi-dimensional organizational capability which, if enhanced to include more dimensions that are less alphabetic, could prove more useful than my prior, 2-dimensional system.
The BIG issue is: I want to see ALL of my stuff at one look. I don't care how much screen space it takes - I'm usually not in a great deal of danger at the vault ;} Scrolling just doesn't work for me in this function. Can you give us a setting that makes each item entry reeeeealllllllly small, so we can see them all at once? I'll even leave my cheater glasses next to the keyboard, if that's what it takes....
This seems to have been a bad idea...folks want to see similar stuff grouped together...not alpha.....and like seeing everything at once.
Judging from my rather large kin's reaction, the new vault is univerally considered a mistake and I have no doubt Turbine is aware that it isn't popular.
Let's just hope it doesn't take them years to correct this mistake as it has with radiance gating or that they take years making tiny corrections around the edges that don't fix anything as they have been doing with the legendary system.
Way to take your own opinion and act like a total condescending ***. I was in beta the entire time and added my input on this change several times. I have tried every aspect of the vault and played with it PLENTY...still hate every part of it. So don't give me some **** about "not knowing how to use it." You can kiss my ***. The filters are totally worthless for people (like me) that are visually oriented searchers who had no trouble distinguishing icons from one another before. It's a totally worthless change with zero benefits for me and my style. Searching for IXP runes is so much fun now...it's awesome having to scroll over every single one to find the one you're looking for! I love it! How fun is this now!!! Before I could order my components and runes and LI items and know exactly where things were when I went to look for them. The only people this vault benefits are the ****** bags that would randomly throw **** into their vault without any organization what-so-ever.
As to all the people saying we just need to give Turbine time to fix what they broke for no good reason...good luck with that. I'll believe it when I see it. They have not followed through with anything since well before Moria. They have lost all credibility and I give them absolutely no "time to fix their mistake." Should have been fixed before this travesty went live or reverted to the old version until it was ready for primetime.
As obvious from the tone of my post, this is the very last straw for Turbine and I'm done until this disaster of a vault is fixed. When they get off their asses and give us back the ability to sort the way WE choose to, then I'll gladly come back and give Turbine some more of my money. Until then, they can shove it.
I have to admit, when I first viewed the vault in beta, it was a shock! However, I've done some working with it and am prepared to accept the changes simply because, as I understand it, it was creating lag. I hate lag so I'll learn to use this new vault and wait for some improvements.
Quit the game over it?? Seriously?? Personally, I can't get over-rot over pixels on a screen. :p
(Thank you for the return of the smilies.);)
This exactly. Turbine seems to want to mess with things that aren't broken or can be overlooked, but big issues seem to always fall by the wayside. It took them a week to fix chair racing (for those who remember it) or running around with the watchers tentacle following you, yet things like swift bow animation and the turtle raid take weeks and months (or years in swiftbow's case) to actually fix. They've known since the early stages of moria that rad gating and the LI system needed major overhauls, yet they chose to do minor tweeks here and there, yet as soon as someone cried OP hunter, boom! broad sword type changes to the class with the first book update. I'm really interested to see how long it takes them to fix the completely laughable TP fiasco. It seems to me they should have worried more about important facets of the game and left the vault alone.
On a positive note, I've noticed that the same named single use recipes now stack and only count as one item in the new vault.
Saved me 20 slots so far :D
Just hope it's not a bug:p
I am just another A.D.D.er that simply cannot utilize this new vault without extraordinary difficulty.
Imagine being in a room having a serious one on one conversation, and just to the side and behind the person you are facing is a huge television that is turned on. The new vault is just like this for me. The item icons are the conversation that I am trying to pay attention to and the HUGE PURPLE letters to the right are the television which is completely disrupting my ability to focus on what I am looking for. It is a damned awful experience, especially when I find that what i am looking for is not in this chest, so I change chests and have to start all over again.
Please fix the bank so we can turn off the words and just use icons, its how we have been identifying items in the game since before it went live. I don't even like to use vendors for that reason but at least the text isn't an awful color.
I'm not reading through 4 pages of "new vault" chat...but I wanted to add my 2 cents...
I hate this new vault with every bone in my body...I would spend 5000 turbine points for "the old vault" in a heartbeat...I really don't understand how anybody considers this an improvement...it's a total disaster in my opinion...I can't stand it on so many levels
I got used to the vault after playing around with it for like 5 mins. It's actually kind of handy. The filters are great (especially if you have a lot of patterns - my bank alts thank you!).
I would like to see some wider category filters, like 'show all ore' or 'show all cosmetic' or 'show all potions'.
Also, being able to open 2 vaults, or having side-by-side listings could help those that want to sort into bags (via the bags drop-down). So, you could have the main bag in 1 window and the another in the other (both selectable with drop-downs).
If the lua has hooks into this code, I suspect we'll be seeing some nifty stuff with sorting and such very soon.
Make the freaking thing at least expand horizontally as well plz.
Personally, I like the new vault. I actually hope they take it one step further and expand it to the inventory as a whole.
Having middle aged eyes and a 19" Widescreen monitor at a fixed resolution, I would always have to lean close to it to see what the heck I was looking at.
I mean, seriously, the icons are the size of well, not even a postage stamp. I can't read a postage stamp from 3 feet away.
This way you can read what things are without having to scroll over each one with the mouse.
I kicked my dog this morning because of this new vault design.
I guess that sums up how I feel.
I wasn't sure whether I'd like or loathe the new vault. Now that I've had a couple of days to play with it, I'm a convert. There are a few minor changes I'd love to see but they're all things that have already been mentioned elsewhere as in the works and coming in some future patch, so meh - I can live with a few annoyances until then.
What I've found works for me is to organize my stuff into chests so the chest order is the same from character to character. I've done it like this:
Main chest - crafting materials and components, both raw and processed
Chest 1 - special crafting ingredients; journals, crafting guild scrolls/crests/patterns/etc., crit ingredients, crafting lore, recipes, etc.
Chest 2 - clothing
Chest 3 - anything to do with LIs
Chest 4 - barter items and any rep items I haven't got around to sticking into one of my house chests yet
Chest 5 - potions, food, drink, situational jewellery, festival foods and drinks, dyes, etc. - basically "misc junk"
Chest 6 - character-bound housing items
Makes it easy to find everything, and while I'm still grumpy over things like my neat apprentice-to-supreme arrangements of items within the old-style vaults being a thing of the past, I am adoring being able to unlock vault space as long as I have the gold for it, and being able to stuff all of everything in any given category into a single bag instead of it getting split between two (or more!) bags.
heh, that's exactly what I miss! .. and what I love as well.
The devs did a nice job of responding to the issues brought up in beta, and they told us at the time that they couldn't get all the changes that they had in mind rolled into the release, and added that they'd be continuing to work on it. Based on how much the new vault improved in that short time, and how responsive they were to our concerns, I have every confidence that soon enough the vault will be flexible enough to meet all sorts of organization styles. Not like they don't have other issues to fix atm .. :p
It needs the ability to name the chests, and the ability to stretch horizontally so you can have more columns but aside from that the new vault is heads and shoulders above the old. Way more functional, and has expandability the old vault system just didn't have.
That new search bar has spoiled me, I want it on all vendors as well.
I don't understand the complaints about the new vault. I simply don't get them. Except those from people who just don't like change in any form; those I at least understand.
To me, grouping items in the vault by their type is great. I can put all my consumables in one chest, all my barter items in another, all my metalsmith items in a third, tailor in a 4th, housing items in a 5th, etc etc ad nauseum. This exactly mirrors the way I had my vault organized to begin with.
How is this not easier? And they're even ordered alphabetically, or reverse-alphabetically, if I was needing that for some reason.
Okay, let's assume for the moment that I don't want to organize my vault as above. Let's assume that I want to put all my recipes together, regardless of profession. So all recipes go into my 1st chest, ingredients into the 2nd, and so on.
Again, how is this not easier?
Wait, wait, I know. Maybe I just want to view all my items at one time in one big list, but I don't like scrolling through them to find the one item I want... let's say, a 4th tier metalworking recipe that I can't quite remember the name of.
Oh look, a nifty little drop-down that allows me to select by Type of item... and one of those types is "Recipe: Metalworking Tier 4". So I can instantly see all of the recipes of my 4th tier, and find them super quickly.
Of course, I can always view all my items in one big window if I want, simply by clicking the "All" button on the "Viewing" (or whatever the label says) drop-down, no matter what chest they're in.
[sarcasm]
But that damned idea of allowing me to auto-stack items when I drag them into the vault (in any window or view) and then auto-switching to that chest so I can see how many I have? Insane. Just craziness.
And forget that Search feature in case I'm just too lazy to bother with the two clicks it takes to go to my consumables chest. I can just type in "Edhelharn" and see all my tokens at once. That's not efficient or easy at all.
Let's not talk about how much the auto-stacking and ability to add things to a full shared storage helps, either.
Definitely a horrible implementation of a new system for the vault. Can't stand it. Just awful, awful, awful.
[/sarcasm]
 :D
Good job, devs. This was one of the most helpful parts of the update for me (well, that and the increased shared storage space... once my TP total is fixed, anyway).
first, I must say I do dislike the current version of the vault as a whole. some feature manage improvements; filtering, text descriptions of objects and search capability are all cool.
however, i don't remember what bags i left my **** in AND i don't know what items get tagged to lotro's filtering system. for example: crafting mats: ingredient, resource, etc. I HAVE NO FREAKING CLUE WHICH IS WHICH.
my hope is this will be fixed in the near future as they promised in the dev diaries about this very change: http://www.lotro.com/gameinfo/devdiaries/799-developer-diary-vault-changes
Add me to the list of people that hate the new vault. Almost as much as the new forums.
FTFY
For people who organize visually, that could open their vaults and immediately see everything and identify what they were looking for and get it in under 5 seconds, this is a nightmare.
Drop down boxes, alphabetical sorting, search boxes, and filters don't help when you're looking for an icon. You cant search or filter by what an icon looks like.
We have already sorted things into chests based on their use. And seeing the grouping allows us to quickly narrow our visual search and pinpoint the item we're looking for. We don't just throw everything in the fault hap-hazard like. Yes, the auto stacking is great, until you throw a stack of something in that doesnt already have a partial stack, and it goes into whichever vault chest you were looking at at the time.
Just wanted to throw my vote in for "not game breaking for me but disappointed in the current vault system".
I like the new vault system. So far it has been very easy to use. The biggest improvement though would be to allow us to rename the chests so I can remember what I put into each chest. I figure over time I will start to learn it from memory, but it just would be nice to be able to rename the chests.
As you might imagine, this week has been rather crazy for me, but finally made it through this thread.
First an update on the new features - I've been able to get most of what everyone has been asking for implemented. QA has yet to take a pass through it, so it's possible that something will be found to be terribly broken and will need to be pulled, but so far so good.
You will be able to resize the vault (and shared storage) horizontally, rename chests, and turn off item name display.
The major piece we weren't able to get to is manual sort. I'm sure we'll catch a lot of flak over it, but it just didn't fit in the schedule. Instead, there will be a new kind of sort that automatically sorts some items within the vault for you (for example IXP runes by value). Over time, this automatic sort can be extended to become smarter and smarter.
Manual sort is still on the list of possible improvements, but now looks like it probably won't make it to the next major update.
There are also other improvements that you haven't asked for, but I think will like a lot :).
Agreed. Imagine having a file cabinet in your office where instead of custom labels they just had numbers on them and than having to remember bills are in folder 1, invoices in folder 2, tax papers in folder 3, accounts receivables in folder 4, employee records in folder 5, insurance records in folder 6, etc. Extremely inefficient, I don't know anyone who would you such a system.
With that being said, I'll amend my earlier suggestions to include custom chest names:
First - Add width adjustment capability (similar to the height adjustment)
Second - Allow toggling on/off item descriptions (allowing for more than 2 columns of items)
Third - Allow manual sorting of items (automatic sorting should be an option)
Fourth - Allow renaming of chests (making it easier to recall where items are stored)
Inconceivable!
Your post is just a bit arrogant and condescending.
Some people are visual learners, in fact many are. Your post only proves that certain fluff changes were made that really don't do all that much to change the core functionality of the vault. Searching, being able to just dump into the vault and have it stack for you, alphabetizing everything for you so that it is now in some sort (no pun intended) of order. If those fluff changes were added to the old vault's core functionality then that would be fine. You would not see me here making sarcastic posts about those of you who needed to have the game sort things for you.
The problem is that the core functionality has been changed. I had everything in each of my characters' vaults organized, along with everything in my house chest, and along with everything in my shared storage - I actually keep certain things in there all the time. I knew which character had which type of items, such as crafting, rep items, class quest items, etc. and I knew that I could open all of my chests at once by pressing the "i" key and easily find something.
I knew that if I wanted a master tier crit item it would be one to the left of the supreme tier crit item. I knew that if I wanted an ixp rune they were all sorted from 1000 up in increasing order. The names of each type were not important, and I did not have to memorize them. I could simply go to my champ's vault and hit the "i" key and easily find what I wanted. Now, I still go to my champ's vault, but the heck if I know which ixp rune is which and they are now sorted alphabetically. That is a change in core functionality. Being able to just dump things into the vault and have the computer stack for you it is not a change in core functionality, it is a fluff change.
I won't go through all of your points because this post is already too long, but taking just one of them in order to drive home my point, let's look at this one:
So previously you had your vault organized the same way the game now organizes it. And you want to know how that is not easier? How is that not exactly the same? And if it is exactly the same (by the way, there is no question, it is exactly the same) then what is your point? Maybe you mean that the game does this for you? If so, and if you already had it that way, then how is it easier? Well, maybe you meant that the game adds new items to that chest automatically?
O.K., that might make it easier, but that's just fluff. I never had to worry because as I said, just hit the "i" key, see all the chests, see the one with the crit items, drop the blue one on top of the blue stack. Done. I traded that for not being able to have things sorted the way I want them sorted? And you come in here, belittle my issues with the new vault in an attempt to trivialize and invalidate them, and sarcastically say that I just don't like change?
Do you see how arrogant and condescending that is?
Having said all that, I agree with many others posting before me that there are good reasons for this change, and I agree also that I can adapt to it if certain modifications are made. In any event, I certainly don't think the devs work tirelessly to just make things harder for us, quite the opposite. Sometimes it just takes a few iterations.
Sounds like you're working hard at improving the vault. Keep up the good work. :)
Since we're short of a manual sort, I'm glad you're doing something about things like the IXP runes. (Suggestion: If you could please group them by type and then sort by value. For example, keep all the older IXP runes that can't be used on 61+ LI's grouped together and sort by value within that group.)
Hopefully the sorts will get better and smarter. Of course, everyone will likely have different ideas for sorting stuff, so I do hope a manual option makes it in at some point. Things can get crazy currently. Right now my Fem set is sprinkled all over among my cosmetic clothing since everything is sorted alphabetically. The set used to be neatly grouped on the same row in their bag.
Btw, do you have any idea why the option to purchase additional Vault storage was removed? The Get More Space button still shows up if I already have 120 slots, but the Store won't allow purchases beyond those 120 slots.
The new vault is not a improvement, at least give us back the option to have the classic system.
That's very good news. Cookies and gold stars to all who are working on it. Turning off item names and horizontal scaling is fantastic, naming chests is nice too. Two things I would love to see. Open all chests at once (that have items in them) and intentional blank spaces. Heck, if I could have intentional blank spaces, I wouldn't even have need for separate chests, named or otherwise.
That's exactly the plan for sorting IXP runes. It will also automatically sort LIs by class, rarity, and level. I'm hopeful that we can extend it to automatically sort crafting materials as well for the initial release, but someone else is handling it and I'm not sure what his timeline is like.
So we get horizontal (and vertical) resizing of the vault panel, the ability to toggle text descriptions, and the ability to rename the individual chest tabs.
Nice to see this confirmed by someone. I'd love to have the manual sorting back, but if we can't have it, the other management options go a long way to making up for it. Thanks for the good news :)
Great! I'm looking forward to more and better sort options. The ideal model is the classic Final Fantasy (single-player) games, which had a single Sort option that put together armor, weapons, items of similar types, and sorted each by power, rather than by name.
Crafting materials need to fall under this sort and get sorted by Tier, please push on that.
Manual sorting is not necessary. More and better sort options are, and I'm looking forward to them.
I have really started to like working with the new vault. I don't miss the old one a bit.
For those of you who hate the new vault, I hear you, but since we're not going back, the best thing to do is take a deep breath, work off your negative emotional reaction somehow, put your best foot forward and give the new system a try.
I work in support, so I know (and understand) the reaction end users have to massive change (the Office "ribbon" for some folks was a nightmare to re-learn for instance).
When people get over their seething hatred of change, take a more positive attitude and give the new thing a legitimate shot, good things can happen. I know that doesn't work for everyone, but hey, like others have said, there's no going back.
I do hope you continue working on manual sorting. Without it, turning off item names is much less useful.
I'm also a little worried by the term manual "sorting". I don't want to re-order items in a (contiguous) list; I want to be able to arrange items on a 2D grid, like you can with inventory bags or the old vault. I'd rather have manual "arranging".
While I think that more & better sorting options will make things acceptable for the vast vast majority of users, I wouldn't go so far as to say that manual sorting is unnecessary. There are many folks who would still like and use manual sorting on occasion (myself being one of them.) If we never get it, I"ll be able to live with sorting by tier and level, but I'd like to see Ransroth keep working towards it.
I wonder if it could be possible to "unhook" one or two bags at a time from the new vault, if we could even just do one or two at a time so we could trade back and forth between those that would be great!
right now, th e issue of lack of inventory space makes organizing and getting things out of the vault really hard. I had to mule out three empty bag spaces, unload half of my bank vault at a time to organize them into bags, it was a pain.
So I'd love to have just even a couple bags we could unhook from that main space for item trading like we used to do between our own bags.
This is good news, thank you for confirming this.
I've gone ahead and made a mock up of what these updates could look like.
** Disclaimer **
This is my personal concept of what it might look like and in no way reflects Turbine's design or actual future implementation, it's merely how I picture it could be.

I know this won't be a popular post, but I actually like the new vault over the old one.
There is more to life than being popular... I actually like the new vault too.
And am looking forward to the future changes mentioned.
You aren’t alone.
Disclaimer: I like the new vault MUCH more than the old one. Kudos to ransroth for the planned updates and improvements, which I know many of us are glad to see.
Two things I'd like to see implemented would be:
- Drag-and-drop functionality between chests
- Multiple-selection of items
Drag and drop would be a great improvement. The right-click context menu is handy, but when you're organizing over a hundred items, like I did last night, it can swiftly become onerous.
Which brings me to the second item: being able to select five or ten or whatever items, then right-click to send them ALL to a particular chest would've shortened that same organization last night by half or more. Even if it's a "Shift-click" sort of thing, that would be super-handy.
I also reallyliked the suggestion from another poster earlier on the 'break-out' chests.
The new vault is, imho, a HUGE step forward in vault functionality. It's not where it could be, and there's definitely room for improvement in implementation, but the devs have said that most of the biggest things we asked for (naming chests, increased sorting options, width adjustment) are all on the way.
Again, well done, devs. Just keep listening to those of us with concrete suggestions (even those I personally disagree with) and we'll end up with something that makes the CDO-sufferers among us happy.
Yes, CDO: alphabetical, like it should be. :P
Figured I'd sort crafting stuff into individual chest, gems in one, ingots in another etc. but... unless you're willing to write down what you put into which chest (for every toon) you have no idea what's where. With 7 crafting toons that's not only very time comsuming but a royal pain.
And yes, the classic spaces could be a bit unwieldy but at least you could SEE EVERYTHING at one time.
And why does everything have to be so large, has someone at Turbine gone blind?
All the hype that's gone into this release and so many of the changes that were made are useless.
