What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
Ok this topic is about the background of your characters. So tell us all about your character and the imagination you put into them for a cool background story. I will go first.
My characters I am trying to make it kind of like a family with each character representing a Characteristic of my favorite artist Tarja.
First I will start with my Warden. His name is "Tarjadan Turunen". He is the first hand soldier of Lady Tarja. He protects her lands from shadow. He is to represent Tarja's bravery and might being able to take on many foes at one time. He is the Brother of all my other toons.
Next is my Hunter Tarjmoth Turunen. Brother of Tarjadan. He represents her will to take you by surprise with a swift piercing strike to the heart. He is the scout the one who goes ahead and sees what the enemy is up to.
Next is one of my personal favorites my runes-keeper Tarjwen Turunen. She is sister to Tarjadan and Tarjmoth. She represents the ladies ability to heal the soul. As she heals the fellowships keeping everyone alive at all costs. She also holds all the money which is kind of funny if you think about it. All my toons have like 20 gold except her having close to 100.. :P
Last but not least my up and coming toon Tarjanor Turunen my Lore-master. Sister of Tarjwen, Tarjadan and Tarjmoth. What I like about this one is I feel the Lore-Master truly represents her kindness. A lore-master IN MY opinion is one who is wise yet kind to all. Going out of their way to help living creatures no matter how small. I see I have my lm wearing all white to represent her being pure. Sounds silly but :)
Anyhow thats what I got so far I wanted to put alot more but I wanted to sum it up as much as I can so people actually read it lol Lets hear some others :P

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
I have 3 characters currently. I used to have more, but I deleted them due to impatience with the game's grind. Having a story for each character does make playing them more fun, I think. All three girls have backgrounds, histories, and stories. My hunter is from Mirkwood and grew up in the elven court. She is a friend/apprentice (sort of) of Legolas and was in a party of elves that traveled with him to Rivendell. Her adventures begin with that trip.
My rune-keeper's history was more difficult since it's kind of hard to see RKs in Middle Earth, but I like the class so much that I made the effort to give her a story. Basically, she's gifted with words (runes) and has an adventurous spirit. With the need of heroes in dark times, Galadriel gave power to her words that is unusual among elves. Thus her ability to use words to translate into forces that can be used for fighting or healing.
My captain is from Gondor and comes from a military background there. She's a woman, so that is unusual but understandable given her family history. Like my hunter, she comes from the upper crust of society and is well-educated. She was childhood friends with Boromir and Faramir. Kind of a "one of the guys" sort of relationship. She traveled north some time after Boromir had left Minas Tirith and their paths have occasionally crossed since.
I like including the Fellowship members into the histories of my characters. Makes the original story seem more present for me besides being just plain fun. Occasionally, I meet someone in-game that role-plays and one of my girls' stories intersects briefly with theirs. It's nice.

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
When I first created my main, Nymphonic 5 years ago, the only story I put into her was having a scar on her face because she is a warrior. Other than that, she was nothing more than a bunch of pixels to me.
But as I got involved in Volume 1, going through Bree Land and Staddle, and finding out that I was helping the Fellowship she grew on me. I think she stopped being a toon and became an actual character in October 2007, when I got my gaming rig that could play at Ultra High. I remember it well, I went to the top of Weathertop and looked over the Lone Lands to check out my new graphics card and it was that day that she became Nymphonic, Guardian.
Now I think of her as a weathered veteran that has fought her way from Thorin's Hall to the Great River.
I love this game.

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
My "Main" is the leader of the family and clan. While that sounds powerful and controlling, like any "man of the house" it's a glorified way of saying long hours of grinding to provide for the "family". The wife (real life) is busy and plays less, needs new "stuff" and since I play more often, well, here's your new mount! Our son enjoys action. No sense in wasting time farming or in vocations. The alternates are all "in school" and certainly can't be expected to provide for themselves while leveling!
Honestly though, I would not trade a single moment of it since we all have fun together! (Although at times "Married with Children" seems to be my bio with me being Al).

Those of us who have known you for sometime know that the scar was from pointing the weapon the wrong way in the tutorial <winks> your secret is safe :)

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
Eukwen left the goldenwood and the world she knew for new music and culture. She ended up finding love with her husband Estellost and the culture of the mortal world. This lead her to want to fight to protect it. Eukwen is kind and giving and wants to be part of the solution and never part of the problem.
When ever I play as Eukwen I try to play positive. My goal is to help make the game fun for everyone around me. I try to avoid negativity and actions that could bring frustration and anger to my fellow players.

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
My main character is Elendiril Lindonathir, 75 Hunter on Brandywine: Here is my Bio and is based on actual Tolkien Lore.
"Great Grandson of Elurin and Grand Nephew of Elured, twin sons of Nimloth and Dior, who were thought to have perished when abandoned and left to die after being taken during the "SacK of Menegroth by the sons of Feonor, Curufin and Celegorm The Dark. But legend has it that the twins were helped by the animals and taken to the safety of the Woodland Realm. There, Elured later died from the ordeal. But Elurin survived and, as a young man, fell in love with an Elf maiden, were joined and gave birth to a daughter. The daughter, Elendarill, wed an Elvish prince of Lothlorien. She in turn gave birth to a son who, during his travels, met and fell in love with and married an Elvish maiden of Rivendell. The two left Rivendell for Lindon and after establishing their home there, gave birth to their only child, a boy they named Elendiril."

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
Baralur, my main character in this game, is the son of a captain and a noble lady from Gondor. His name comes from both his father's name (Baranir) and the name of the great elven ancestor from his mother's side (Gandelur), who had a romance with a woman of Numenor way back in the Second Age. After some unfortunate events that led to him getting exiled from Gondor (which I'm still trying to hammer out), he journeyed north into Rohan, where he met Denenthera (my other main character), and the two banded together for mutual protection.
Baralur's main "quest," other than defending the good folk of Bree-land from the evil of Angmar, is to recover and reforge the swords wielded by Gandelur and Naruphel, the two lovers from the Second Age.

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
My little hobbit girl is from Hobbingen and a neighbor of Frodo. She knows him from childhood and forever had a secret crush on him, but he never really seemed to notice her. When he disappeared after Bilbos leaving party, she got worried about him and after a while decided to pack a bag and a shield and to find out what happened and if he is in trouble and she can help him.
Not sure if this is very lore appropriate or what it will lead to in the end, but I like it. She is even asking around for him in the Prancing Pony on a RP server and people seem to enjoy and play along with it.

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
When I originally created Falibrand, I wanted to play a hobbit who wasn't quite as smart as Samwise. From that seed, the rest of his story grew. I had been playing Filidor for nearly 2 years before Falibrand came long, over on Vilya, and grafted the very small elements of his backstory I had onto Falibrand, so Filidor became Falibrand's uncle. Fal's parents disappeared while tending to their berry patch near the mouth of the Withwindle just outside Haysend, Buckland, leaving him to be raised by his grandparents over in Pincup (so yes, Falibrand grew up in places not on the game map yet!). He took up music as a tie to his father, who was a musician--the lute Falibrand plays was his father's. Joining the Bounders of the Shire has helped ground him and helped him grow a bit wiser, although not much smarter.

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
Wow you really are sort of obsessed with Tarja, eh? Woman belongs on Broadway, I'll admit.
I never really developed a backstory to my main beyond the initial idea that she had to disguise herself as male in order to fight alongside Legolas (hence the extremely short hair and bosom hiding outfits).
Reading some of these replies, I think I'm going to have to come up with more of a story for her.

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
When I first started playing LOTRO in Nov 2008, i wanted to create a dwarf guardian - my Main character to this day
Here is his story:
Montis was born in Noglond, a dwarf stronghold in Ered Luin in TA 2950, he is of Durin’s line and his grandfather was Morim. Morim escaped from Erebor when Smaug (the dragon) attacked the kingdom in TA 2770, and settled in Ered Luin. Morim was later slain by Orcs at the Battle of Azanulbizar, during the War between Orcs and Dwarves.
Montis has no parents alive, as the tale told in Noglond, recounts that they were slain by an Orc raiding party whilst mining within the Blue Mountains. Montis childhood was spent in the wilds around Noglond and Gondamon and later he moved to Thorin’s Gate and joined the dwarf garrison there. He excelled at skills with shield and axe, leading many raids against Orcs within Ered Luin, so much so, he was known as Montis Orcbane , even acting as personal Guardian to Dwalin himself, on many occasions.
The evil stirrings within Ered Luin, increasing raids by Orcs and Goblins and the nasty business with the dourhands, have made Montis rethink his role within the dwarf community (which is always very reluctant to help any other race) and due to the fate of his grandfather and parents, he has embarked on a campaign of revenge to rid the world of the the Orc menace. He is determined to find the place where his grandfather died, so his journey to Moria is a priority on this journey of redemption.
He has joined forces with a small group of travellers, each with their own goals and ambitions, but his mission is clear.
If along the way, other creatures get in his way, his shield shall be strong and his axe shall be sharp!
Baruk Khazâd! Khazâd ai-mênu!

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
I suffer from an affliction called fanfictionitis... My main's story is made up, based off inspiration here and there. My main alt has no written story, but is a Hobbit who went to sea to become a pirate minstrel *cough* I have no explanation for WHY she went to sea, but there you have it. I have alts who have detailed stories allowing me to put other peoples characters into this world - Rhibranyhud, or correctly, Rhi Bran y Hud - King Raven of the Wood, is essentially Robin Hood, Hiccuphaddock is essentially Hiccup from "How to Train Your Dragon", and Kaitoukid is essentially the Kaitou KID from Gosho Aoyama's Magic Kaito & Detective Conan manga. *cough* I'm sad, I know. The stories are all in my profile somewhere, if you care to look.

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
I have tons of characters, and they all have their own stories whether they are solo, duo, trio, or group characters. I guess my "main" main is on Silverlode. Her name is Eodyn. She is a shieldmaiden who was betrothed to one of the Riders of the Mark (Arik) who was killed by a band of orcs who were invading the Westfold. She found him on the battlefield, with his horse Warrior (Warrior's Heart in game since I couldn't have Warrior by itself) standing guard over him to protect him from the Orc scavengers. The horse was gravely wounded in the battle, and is now recovered but still suffers some of the effects and is slow because of it (read Bree horse). The two of them have vowed to kill every orc in Middle Earth if it lies within their power. I may have to give up on poor old Warrior at some point, but so far (Eodyn is level 44 now) he is still fighting right along beside her. Maybe when we get home to Rohan she will put him out to pasture and find a new warhorse to continue her fight. Until then, Orcs beware! ;)
Since I have so many characters, it takes me FOREVER to level them up. :D My husband and I just hit level 60 on our Main Duo team, and we have been playing since Alpha testing.
Not all of my characters have their stories in their bios, but I know them all. Some of them have evolved and changed over the years, but most stay true to their backstory. That is one reason I have so many characters to begin with. I just play whoever I "feel" like being right then.

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
Name: Eärrandir (Seawanderer) class: Loremaster
From Silmarilion, Akallabêth
Among the Exiles many believed that the summit of the Meneltarma, the Pillar of Heaven, was not drowned for ever, but rose again above the waves, a lonely island lost in the great waters; for it had been a hallowed place, and even in the days of Sauron none has efiled it. And some there were of the seed of Eärendil that afterwards sought for it, because ot was said among the loremasters that farsighted men of old could see from the Meneltarma a glimmer of the Deathless Land.
Eärrandir is one of those Loremaster and he spent much af the third age helping the Númenorean exiles trying to find this remnant of their former home.
Towards the end og the third age he has ventured inlands. Realising that the time of the elves is almost over, he travels the lands gathering what lore about the free people the he can in order to preserve it, so that the stories of the struggles against the shadow in middle-earth not be forgotten.

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
Ivrenneth comes from a military-scholarly Noldorin family - her great-grandfather was one of the followers of Finrod during the Exile, subsequently became a captain of Nargothrond, and all later generations were involved in Gil-galad's army in some form or another. She is the youngest child of Ivrendir (a scholar and tactician) and Galathel (a retired soldier of Lindon who nearly lost her arm on Dagorlad and settled in Imladris after the war). Unlike her siblings, Ivrenneth decided to break with family tradition and become a minstrel, so she trained with Lindir and then with Talagan in Edhelion. When the Dourhands attacked, she high-tailed out there, mourned her master and went on with her life, but when rumors of Skorgrim's resurrection surfaced, she went back with Elladan and Elrohir's party to set out on her roaring rampage of revenge. Girl holds a grudge. And now that she's started fighting, she actually rather enjoys it.
The only downside: Whenever she returns to Rivendell, the door to her family's apartments appears just like it's painted on the wall... :P

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
I have a hobbit guardian with a heart of gold. Really, he would be Samwise if there weren't already a Samwise. He's always had somewhat of a Tookish side in that he craved adventure and exploring new lands. Somehow he got wrapped up into helping out the fellowship and has transformed himself from an adventure seeking hobbit to a full fledged hero. He always stops to help NPCs in need and generally makes the morally "right" choice.
He has an outfit that he uses when he's on official hero business. Although he sometimes he changes when he heads back to town so as not to alert the forces of Saruman of his true identity. Often in battle (in my head) he makes pronouncements of the various titles he has earned to let the enemy know just who they're dealing with.
He wields legendary weapons that bear the names of those from the elven kings of the first age...but i'm not sure if they ARE those weapons or just named so. Maybe one day he'll tell me :D

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
Tuckley Secondglance is the second son of a farmer from Staddle, Emmit Secondglance. Tuckley's only goal in life was to get rich being a merchant in Bree. He thought his father was just a backwards hobbit hick, with no sense of ambition.
One day, his brother Moribrand returned from his travels in distant lands. Mori and Dad disappeared into a back room at The Pony one night. Tuckley was furious. His father never so much as raised an eyebrow when he told him about his plans to be a big shot merchant. Now Mori comes home and they run off to some secret meeting without him? Bollocks! He crept to the outside window and listened in.
What he heard changed his life forever...
(the rest happened in character and is not background, but you can guess. He came from a family of Burglars and got tangled up in the War of the Ring)

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
I like characters who are at the bottom of the food chain in Middle-Earth. I'm talking about ordinary farmers, hunters, shy maids and silly youngsters who are always left behind when the real heroes run screaming into the battlefield. My elf runekeeper (main) is a pacifist who gets nervous while holding a butter knife. She is a scribe at the service of Lord Celeborn and her excellent command of languages leads her to become a translator ("interpreter" might be a better word here) and be somehow (and rather unwillingly) thrown out into the world outside of Lorien. My hobbit lass is too fat to be married off to a decent hobbit lad and too rebellious to be put to service in her father's farm. She runs away and becomes a minstrel who insists on following travelling merchant parties until they pay her to stop singing. After digging a fair amount of latrines at campsites, she realizes what paradise she had back home but it's too late to go back. The roads have become too treacherous. My elf hunter is a vain fool who spends his days looking at himself in the mirror (I could not help it, not with the way male elves look in Lotro :p).
So if you ever see me running around electrocuting orcs or pew-pewing boars, just pretend I'm not there. :p

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
Imnoto Crook is the brother of an only child. His career in burglary commenced when he stole his brother's birthmark. After that, he was hooked. He considered a career in politics, but decided that being a burglar was the more honorable path through life.
Since he was very different than most other hobbits, Imnoto decided to adventure outside the Shire at a very early age. Dodging the two-feathered shiriffs, he snuck across the Brandywine Bridge and made his way toward Bree, trying to pick the pockets of (and being chased by) various brigands, bears and pigs along the road. He learned the hard way that most bears and pigs don’t have pockets.
He arrived at a seemingly-friendly camp on the road to Bree, but had the life scared out of him by grocer Graham Larkspur, who thundered at him (for no apparent reason), "WHY ARE YOU BOTHERING ME?!!!" He felt a little better after picking Larkspur’s pocket and proceeding on his way to the town of Bree.
Thus began his career as a wandering hobbit burglar. He moves quickly through all parts of Middle Earth, though for some reason he tends to move more slowly and jerkily in Galtrev than in most other parts. When not burglaring, he can usually be found in the corner of a tavern with both hands full of food, drink and/or splintered shields.

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
My Hunter has something in his biography that I wrote up years ago. I think I made him an Elvish Prince from Mirkwood if I remember correctly. Nothing too fancy. Doesn't really have a story. He he. My Warden does not have a story at all... he just magically appeared one day. :p I don't really do much role playing so it matters little to me.

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
Lonia is a hobbit lass who was raised in the Shire by her mother. Her father died when she was eleven years old, which left her mother to take care of Lonia and her brother. As a child, she was somewhat curious about the lands outside the Shire. She made a promise to make herself some sort of adventurer, wanting to just explore and discover new places, and people. She is still naive in some ways, and wants to find the good in almost every situation. So far, the only sort of adventure she had, was when she went with a company to travel to Forochel. Other than that, she mostly sticks to Bree and the Shire still. She enjoys hearing tales from others about their travels, riding her pony, and listening to music from minstrels and bards.
(I usually play her in character in Bree, and the Shire. If I am off doing quests in other lands, I do those outside of character. That seems to work. :) )

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
Lilka is from Forochel. Lothrandir told her the stories of the southern lands and, as he expressed his concerns about the Angmarim encroaching on the Lossoth land, she felt she had to do more than simply wait for the war to come to Forochel's door. With her father's blessing, she travelled south into Evendim with the next convoy of traders. From there she made her way to the Rangers of Tinnudir, and stayed for 2-3 years as a scout, then a warden.
When she heard a ranger named Amdir was to travel further still, into Bree-land, she jumped at the chance to see more of the world.
The rest is game-canon.
Consequently I feel an affinity between Lilka and the rangers as well as with her kin. She has spent almost as much time in Dunedain-company as she has her own kin, learning some of their customs and Sindarin. She finds elves do not treat her well (viewing her as a lesser, cruder kind of man) but then, while she forms close friendships with the Dunedain, they see her as a child, not just because of her short stature and her youth - around 22 now - but because of her limited lifespan. Even if she survives the war, Lossoth life is harsh and she would not reach the age of an old southerner. Yet, as the Grey Company march, she is experiencing what she never thought she'd see; the death of her companions while she remains.
Working for the Rohirrim does not sit easily with her. She misses the rangers deeply.

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
Halmojo is quite the strange young hobbit, and quite the strange minstrel as well. He'd rather hunt warg and orc than eat a pie in the shade of a tree. He prefers smacking brigands upside the head with his lute over playing a ballad for some boring shire-girl. Not to say he doesn't like shire-girls, he just doesn't like them for long. He is the minstrel hobbit fathers tell their daughters to stay away from. This is the main reason he is single, he loves hobbit lasses, but has yet to find one with his passion for battle. It's also why he's mostly snubbed in the shire, laughed at by "normal" hobbits. Hence he finds most of his time is spent exploring dangerous places he knows he shouldn't step foot in, but just can't resist.
He hails from the Southfarthing, his father a pipe-weed farmer, his mother a seamstress. He left home at the ripe old age of 14, spent several terrifying days and nights making his way through the Old Forest and the Barrow-Downs(he was woefully unaware that there was a road) before making his way into the marvel of Bree-town. Here he learned of the struggles, battle and adventures to be had in world, and hasn't looked back.
He is no stranger to defeat, and has been captured a few times. He fancies himself to be much mightier than he actually is. He has recently ventured into Moria, rather unprepared, but also undaunted. Will he see another defeat in the long dark of the mines? Almost certainly, but with defeats come knowledge, and with knowledge come great victories. At the very least the headstrong little hobbit is a lesson in learning from your experiences, and perseverance.

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
Some cool (and amusing) backstories here!
Lenira Ashleaf, my main, is a hunter (literally) and farmgirl from just outside Archet who had a big interest in the Rangers, mostly due to her parents' interactions with them. As an added bonus, there is a family legend of Dunedain blood (I'm still not sure if she actually is of Dunedain descent or not, though her family is unusually long-lived). Long story short, she was hunting in the woods when she was snagged by Blackwolds and rescued by Aragorn and Amdir (and she gained a scar on her cheek; she'll remember to duck next time). The following adventures came naturally, despite her initial shyness (especially around elves). This has eased due to her membership in the Darkwood Marauders, which has a lot of elves. She's also been thrilled to be able to help out the Rangers in Esteldin and Annuminas, and is even more thrilled that they have come to consider her one of their own.
My most-played alt is Romana Longhole, known as Fred to some of the Bounders: Mungo Bolger, during introductions the day she joined the Bounders, commented that she didn't look like a Romana, she looked like a Fred, and the nickname stuck. Her mother was a Took, and that Tookish blood has certainly had its effect; not only is she a Bounder, but she has been to Bree twice (and a little farther!), traveled into the Old Forest three times (goodness!), and even been to Ered Luin! It's only a matter of time before she runs off into the wild blue.
I have others, and they have backstories as well, but I haven't played them often enough or long enough to feel it's worth posting them. That, and I have serious altitis. It's an accomplishment that I can keep playing Lenira and Romana!

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
(I have thoroughly enjoyed reading these--what a creative community we have!)
In the shelter of the Golden Wood was born Tuiliel, Daughter of Spring, to a family of scholars who spent their days seeking lost wisdom. She grew strong and beautiful under the trees, but as the West began whispering to her people from across the sea she felt a different call: to save a world that was no longer her own. And so she ventured into the cold dark winter of a Middle Earth at war, learning to hunt evil and strike it down with growing strength and fury. Each step of her path has brought not only victory, but also great suffering and loss. Though she carries always the small spark of hope that ties her to these shores, her wounds run deep and those who see her often say her beauty is veiled by doubt and sadness. Her betrothed, the Malledhrim archer Eluridan, is one of the few who truly understand the impact of the growing darkness upon her soul, and he does what he can to bring her back towards the light. With the small circle of friends that she can put her trust in, the huntress does what she must to ensure a better future for those who will come after she is gone.
(For those interested in the full history and ongoing adventures of Tuiliel, see Called by the Sea: A Hunter's Journey at http:/my.lotro.com/user-1027520 :) )

I usually base my characters off of Greek Mythology (except Bryter and Mad... I forget where I came up with that, haha). I don't really use lots of Lore or anything. I read the comments above, and dang guys, you are really creative! Very nice!

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
I used to be an adventurer like you but then i took.......a club to the head.
I woke up jailed in a small courtyard by faint whispers. Seems like the waylayers had more stored for me than just robbing my belongings. I wonder if my old used leathershirt would have been worth the trouble if they knew it was the best part they could steal from me. Yes it was originated from gondor but by no means master craftmanship, maybe worth 1 silver and a second rusty knife.
A hooded figure claimed to help me and put an old used bow and a carved sword into my hands. "quickly, let us ambush the robbers and free ourselfs".
I barely dare to remember everything that happened since that day. So much sadness and especially madness. When pitet against a Balrog in the deep ashen wasteland of Angmar, facing Mordirith seemed like a faint pleasant dream. Reclaiming the sunken City of Annuminas seemed like a fools erand, but nothing compared to sit half frozen to death in Forochel for two months. But who am i to complain, i've also seen the beauty of Elfes, oh Glorfindel how faire you are.
Undead Dragons haunting old dwarven ruins, listening to the downfall of Durin's folk in Moria by a dark deep pool. Facing aborminations deep hidden in stone and mountain just to be blinded by the golden leaves of Dwimordene.
A hidden purpose, a hidden path deep into a dark forrest. Of fell beast and orc my bowstrings sang, just to be unexpectedly calmed by the wild winds of the barren lands north of rohan. Old friends united again and bitter tears are not everything left behind on a dwindling path.
Of iron towers and menacing trees i now could tell, but i remain calm for my adventures are not over until an arrow find his way to my knee. ;)

That's a really touching story, I enjoyed reading it.
Some of my characters have lore-bound backstories, some don't. My warden, for example: he spent his youth in and around Dale, living realtively free of sorrows until a tragic accident - which he was partly responsible for - resulted into the death of one of his best friends. Riddled with guilt he fled to the west, over the Hithaeglir, and took on the name "Heorteleas", or "heart-less" in the tongue of his People.
My minstrel, Barimac, was an ordinary yet musically very talented Hobbit, who decided to travel to Bree one day to compete in a musical contest. Even though he didn't win, he received much praise from bystanders. Encouraged by this, his pride blinded his down-to-earth Hobbit nature and he decided to bring his musical talents to all the corners of Middle-Earth.
I'd rather not talk too much about my Burglar (a psychopathic hobbit lass who above all else desires to stab people with pointy things), RK (a dwarf sith-lord) and LM (I asked my sister to create one for me). Maybe I should invent some backstories for these as well.

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
Finduilwe came from Lorien, where through family connections moreso than actual merit, he was assigned to Celebrian's personal guard for her frequent trips between Rivendell and Lorien. However, the party soon tired of his conversation -- he had a fondness for knock-knock jokes, but he knew only three -- so assigned him as forward scout. This suited him fine, for he was inveterately lazy: he would ride on ahead just out of sight, whereupon he would turn aside and spend the rest of the day in leisure drinking and smoking on the mountain passes. When they caught him up, he'd simply claim the road ahead was clear.
This scheme worked well for some centuries, where one day over the Redhorn pass, Finduilwe claimed the road was clear, but that day it just so happened there was an Orc ambush. Celebrian was captured, and Finduilwe was the sole survivor of the guard (by dint of having fled at the first sign of trouble). Though she was recovered, it was in a ruined state, and she was soon sent to the uttermost west. Finduilwe was in disgrace (no one bought his "I fought with such valor the orcs decided to let me go in deference to my greatness" lie), and he was exiled from Lorien.
As it happened, Finduilwe soon found refuge in, of all places, Rivendell. Though, he soon found Elrond's taking him in was less out of forgiveness, and more for the satisfaction of a scheme of the most complete and terrible revenge: for his was immediately assigned to the choir that heralds visitors to Imladris. You know, the "O! tra-la-la-lally here down in the valley!" nonsense. It was miserable work. Imagine someone approaches Rivendell. You have to drop whatever it is you're doing, research the subject, devise lyrics, set them to music, rehearse, and perform, in the space of a few minutes. A few centuries of that nearly drove our poor elf mad -- surely Elrond's intention.
However, one day Finduilwe cracked, and he composed some obscene and naughty lyrics for the benefit of Gilraen to herald her arrival (which, under other circumstances, she may have appreciated, but she did not that day). The resulting scandal forced Elrond to abandon his schemes for revenge, and turn Finduilwe out again. Yet, the benefit of the lyric research, miserable and pointless as it had been over the course of centuries, did teach Finduilwe the art of quick study and deep lore. Combined with his pyromaniacal tendencies, his love of hitting things with big sticks, and his habit of bossing cats around, he soon donned his bathrobe and strode out into the world, a lore-master.

I like to steal things and stab Orcs in the back. :)

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
I play an angmarian spy who pretends to be a stern mercenary from Dale (which isn't even completely false statement). Hiding in lies and half-truth I try to find the trace of the Ring and sway Free People into service of Angmar.
If game-Angmar is used as a filler in addition to existing scarce lore, it actually works pretty well as a backstory.
-
Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?
The only lore currently associated with my character has to do with his unusual name. Family legend has it that an ancestor was kidnapped by orcs as a young child and raised as a slave. "Imirak" is the name given to him by the orcs; his true given name was lost to memory.
He was rescued and eventually spent much of his adult life killing orcs to avenge both his family and the treatment he suffered at their hands. This was generations ago and much detail is lost, but "Imirak" has since been passed down as a family name, often skipping generations, to serve as a reminder of the perserverance of the human will.
My character grew up hearing fanciful tales of wizards and decided to become one himself, immersing himself in their lore and techniques. He is unaware that Gandalf is not actually human, but understands the history behind his name.

It's a shame this thread got buried; thankfully sometimes the search function does work :p
My first two mains have bits of lore still in shaping; but my fresh Captain is lucky to have a full biography in earnest. Maybe I should have made him "white". Anyway, here is Aglahil Urwendil's bio:
Not every strain of Westernesse blood went extinct in the realm of Cardolan; neither did every single body therewith went wandering into the wild.
Aglahil... The meaning of the word is no more remembered, A forefather of my mother's in a time long forgotten was named thus. She raised me to withhold the legacy of her people, never to let it fade away till the King returns to claim his realm.
Urwen, the Sun Maiden... Thus I named her when we last met that evening in Spring-time, when the shadows were lengthening. Urwendil am I called, lover of the gleam of the setting sun on her hair, lover of the mirth of her singing and laughter.... Forever lover of everything about her, my Urwen, my Sun...

My hunter, Mirkir, is from Lake-Town, where his father and his father and so on, back to the time of Smaug, were woodworkers who helped build and maintain the piers and docks of the city, hence the family name Quaywright. (Quay, pronounced "key", is another word for "pier".) Against his father's wishes, Mirkir volunteered to train as a defender of Lake-Town, but while in training, fell in naive, youthful "puppy love" with a young woman also in the same training. Unfortunately, she was a bit of schemer, used him to get out of work and to advance in her training, then when she got one of the lieutenants around her finger, set Mirkir up in a conflict with the lieutenant to help cement her position. Mirkir ended up being banished, and would likely have died in Mirkwood, had he not once been (as a child) able to travel to King Thranduil's court in the company of his father, who was trading woodworking knowledge with some of the elven craftsmen. Mirkir was able to get enough help to make his way west with traders, in hopes of starting a new life in Bree-Land.
My ideas for my other two characters are far less developed. My second character, Lindelorien, is a champion who was sent from her home in Lothlorien because Lady Galadriel saw a destiny ahead for her, and she's just been trying to stay brave about her mission despite being desperately homesick. (She's only just recently managed to get back to Caras Galadhon.)
My hobbit scholar, Sageblossom, has the simplest background. What is best in life is to have some warm tea, a plate of cakes, and a book you've never read before. One day, when she'd read all the books in her family's house, and in her village, and Michel Delving, and in the whole Shire, she decided... she was going to need more cakes. And some kind of travelling basket to carry them in. (She's actually one of three sisters in the kinship, the others being her twin sister Pennyblossom and their younger, brattier sister Kimberlite.)
-
I like their diversity HunterGreen! :)
-
Only one of my characters really has much of a story behind her.
She's a young elf out of Rivendell who wants to sample the cuisines of Middle Earth. She was a cook of some success back home, but grew weary of cooking the same dishes day in and day out. One day, as she was searching through some of her family's cookbooks, she found some recipes her father had picked up during his travels during ages past. They were an inspiration! Though a little crude compared to the fare she was used to preparing, they were refreshing in their boldness of flavours and hearty character.
Once she had exhausted the supply of her father's recipes, she decided to leave Rivendell in search of new ones! Ever since then she's been sampling foods from every corner of Middle Earth, documenting every bite. Most recently, she's found herself in Rohan, where she's encountered a most curious dish called a "pot pie."
... and now I'm hungry >_>
-
I am sorry that I'm not going to reveal my characters' backgrounds here and now* ... just wanted to say that i like your enthusiasm over Tarja Turunen :D I like Nightwish & Tarja's solo performances also!
*) But I might tell you the lore of my main character sometime... It's not complete; only a sketch of what it really is. I'll get back to this when the story is ready.
-
My main is a sailor from Pelargir. He was crew on a ship that brought an emissary from Gondor to Ered Luin (don't ask why, he was a traitor anyway). The ship was lost on the Lhûn to a Dourhand attack and so he is stranded in Eriador. As a simple sailor grown up in the streets he has no need nor use (and never owned) swords or greatswords. He might be the only champion around fighting with two daggers...

Umm, oh yes they did, they all died in the Great Plague about fourteen hundred years before the time the game is set. That was several centuries before the final fall of the North-kingdom, so they weren't even around when the remaining Northern Dunedain took to the wilds and became the Rangers.
Now that's lore.

Aglahil's mother apparently disagrees :p
Note that this alternate lore should be received and regarded within the scope of the game, where we have a revamped Angmar, giant/oversized spiders in every other corner of Middle-earth, goblins virtually at the backyard of Hobbiton and above all a hero of Eriador to fit into the story somehow. So relax and enjoy if you can ;)
-
Theres always dodgy records in history. Though it might be recorded everyone from a race is wiped out the odds of one or two surviving are quite high. :) even the Elves get it wrong some times.

Oh, I allowed for that already. Your 'alternate lore' doesn't fit within the scope of the game, either, because Cardolan's shown as being long-gone there, too. As far as the game goes, the only Dunedain of Cardolan walking around would be the ones the Barrow-wights had reanimated :p

My character is a little hobbit minstrel and here is her story:
She was born in Starfield, Southfarthing in the Shire, Eriador. One day she wanted to eat an Apple Pie which was her favourite dessert. She asked one of her friends, a cook, to make an Apple Pie for her but her friend was out of apples. Therefore she went to collect apples but she had no idea what was going to happen in the following hours. She heard a noise behind herself and turned to see what that was. "Oh! It's just a tiny turtle!" she said and picked the tiny turtle up. She always found them cute. She caressed the shell of the turtle and then let it walk away. While wandering deeper into the forest and searching for the best apples of the Shire, she stumbled upon a chest. After seeing noone around, she approached to the chest to see what was inside. As she came closer, she could feel the foul and filthy smell coming out of the chest. She was feeling uneasy but opened the chest anyway and was immediately shocked with what was lying in front of her. There was a head of a creature covered in blood! This portrayal of violance was overwhelming for the little hobbit. She started running, horrified in terror. She suddenly felt something hitting on her head and fell down with its impact. It was the last the thing she was remembering, when she opened her eyes just to find out that she was captured by a group of brigands and put in a cage. The cage was moving and so was she, with each feet going away further and further from the Shire... She was really scared and very hungry...
To be continued...

Well, I disagree. Enjoy if you can, leave it be if you don't like it. This is not something you have to read or anything related to your gameplay experience.
As for teaching me my lore, sorry, you're not allowed to. Good luck!

Now I like this little thing of mine much more. Noticed a structural error which may lead to confusion or misunderstanding: no! Urwen is not her mother of course. I'll keep working on this
Please keep posting your own bios/lore people, they are great so far :)

This is for my Hobbit guardian, Polyanthes Sweetmelons.
A very long time ago there was a Hobbit lass named Dhoria who was a member of a family of great farmers. Dhoria was quite the explorer and befriended an Elven maiden according to the tales. The Elf maiden named Polyanthes and her friends used to visit Dhoria and her family.
Dhoria and her family didn't speak Elven, but managed to pick up a few words and phrases and one word and phrase the Elves seemed to say a lot had to do with melons, which was understandable as Dhoria's family was renowned for the quality, size, juiciness and sweet taste of their melons. The Elves would say something like sweet like melon and often used the word melon a lot.
It didn't take long for the local Hobbits to start using the phrase, sweet like melons, to mean something was good. Dhoria's family even took to calling themselves the Sweetmelons.
To honor Dhoria's Elven friend, the first born female of each generation is named Polyanthes.

I am Luvatar, the Mighty Bow, son of Curumacar and Indilaica. I was conceived under a moonless night in a valley not far from Rivendell where I spent my childhood. While my father insisted I carry and learn the way of the bows, I threw aside these devices and instead took up music. Inspiring others I became a noteworthy minstrel of the land. My father, disappointed, begged me to reconsider, but I could not be deterred from my path. Growing up I was taken with my father on many hunting parties, where I learned that through the power of song and my voice I could eliminate just as many orcs as my peers with bows. As I grew older and the wilderness became more dangerous I began to stay home at Rivendell while the hunting parties went out. I healed the hurts of those who returned, but I was shunned by those who believed I should have been there. One day, I was confronted by a group of Elves who had returned from an unsuccessful orc hunt, where one of their numbers had fallen. They blamed me, and I became angry. I got in one little fight and my mom got scared, she said, "You're moving with your auntie and uncle to Belair." I whistled for a mount and when it came near the bun-bag said fresh and it had dice in the saddle. If anything I can say that this mount was rare but I thought, "Eru forget it - Yo homes to Belair!" I pulled up to the house about seven or eight and I yelled to the horsie, "Yo homes smell ya later." I looked to my kingdom I was finally there, to sit on my thrown as the Prince of Belair.

I don't really have one for my first three characters. But with my new hobbit warden, I sort of have a basic story. She grew up in Bree, so feels very at home around humans and has taken on many of their characteristics. For example, she knows how to use a weapon, she wears boots and is comfortable riding a horse. As a child she would go on adventures around Bree-land, hence the scar across her face. But now she is starting to go further afield =)
(I'm sure that's a very common back story though...)
-
I have created a backstory for my main, all my alts are relatives or key people he has met in his travels.
I tend to write out a back story, then write up what my characters do (A day in the life) started doing many years ago when I started PnP roleplaying, and find it great for maintaining character etc. The purpose in the first page is to define the origins and motivations of the character - you probably wouldn't be surprised from reading the below that my main is a Champion.
In the case of my main, he started out as a fairly sheltered teenager with some very strong views on right and wrong, he may only be months older now (currently resting in Hytbold) he has been very tempered by his experiences if I ever stick the writings (about 200 pages now).
Anyway heres the first few paragraphs of my main's history, which he wrote in Stangard looking towards Rohan while the bridge was being repaired.
I was born 19 years ago in dale to a crafting family. My parents are Ederwulf Smith (an Armourer) and Lin (a master jeweller) who gave me the glorious name of Argbert. I have 1 brother, Barwerd ( a tailor), the only other family I have is my Aunt Cynthbur who spends her life studying trees and animals and my uncle Halathelion who is an army captain or some such– my Dad hasn’t let him come and visit since I was 7, felt he was too likely to give me ideas.
Neither of my parents wanted me to have anything to do with weaponsmithing – but I think children can be more stubborn than their parents – especially when rebelling against parental restrictions. we do not make weapons of war they would say, but it came in quite handy when I was thrown out of school.
I am the smallest of the four of us, but am by far the quickest, and reasonably bright – though my teachers despaired of me ever stopping to think first.
School was OK, I usually managed to stay out of serious trouble once I’d sorted the bullies out – most bullies don’t complain about being beaten up by smaller kids, it was my reaction to the teachers who picked on the slower children that got me banned from school. Though to be fair, I still got lessons from the headmaster after this, who disagreed with my methods – but not my motives.
So from the age of 15 I spent the day’s in my fathers forge, until just after my 17th birthday, when he finally bowed to the inevitable and took me to the Weapon Smiths in Thorins Hall who after the usual tests inducted me into the guild.
That kept me out of visible trouble for a while – though there wasn’t a live Orc within 10 miles of Dale - but by the time I hit 19 I was bored, bored and bored again – I must have been awful to live with. My dad called in a favour and sent me to his friend in the bree craft hall> to see what he could teach me about dwarf metal, and off I went in a small caravan, there were 17 of us plus a couple of rangers as guides and organisers.
Things were great, they let me help out, and one of them started teaching me how to (properly) use the swords I had snuck along with me, until near Coombe we were ambushed, I did my bit well, stood over the hobbits in the caravan with my blades out as Aragorn told me.
None of them came near us, so during the fight the hobbits and I were suddenly rooted to the spot with the most awful feeling of fear I had ever experienced up to that point in my life. When the feeling broke, only 6 of the 9 who had gone out returned – and 3 of those were injured one of who was <name> but his wound was not like the others – I know why now, but didn’t then. We stumbled into Archet gone midnight and collapsed into the <Badger> inn.
Overnight I decided I’d found my calling in life – stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves, knowing my family would never agree I decided Argbert had died in the caravan raid, and took on the name Swanwic and I was never going to the Bree craft hall.
The next morning I woke up in Archet and ...

Majority of my toons have connections with each other character-lore-wise.
Main Toons. Lightner (rk) and Lionheart (hunter)
Lightner and Lionheart, sisters of the woods. Lightner, hidden daughter of Galadriel, was raised in secret and Lionheart lived alone as a young elf maiden until she was adopted by Lord Celeborn while he ventured in Mirkwood. The two grew up with each other for most of their lives, until it was the time for the elves to go west. Lionheart chose to stay and watch over the woodland realm, but Lightner had no choice for the elven rings cannot grant her protection anymore. The two shall never be the same again. 200 years into the Fourth age, Lightner returns. In search for her sister, she return to Lothlorien in hopes that her sister is still there. When she arrived there, she only saw a barren wasteland and a bow laying down on a rock. She recognize the bow, it was her sister's. She believe that she is not dead, Lightner began to travel around Middle-Earth but does not find her sister. Lightner vowed an oath to find her sister whether she's dead or alive and that she well not rest until she finds her.
Alts' lore.............. Kriegerin (ward, name is german so google translate to find the meaning) and Arealia (lm)
Kriegerin is a banished shield-maiden of Gondor with parts of her blood being Dúnadan. Under Denethor's power, she cannot enroll as a Guardsmen. In great anger, she kills a Gondorian guardsmen in action to prove her strength. Denethor saw this as a rebellion and banished her away. Kriegerin decides to leave for Rohan as she not only banished from the White City but from the entire realm of Gondor. Having lost her way from the Dunharrow and the Paths of the Dead, it took Kriegerin 10 years into the Fourth age to find her way into Rohan. Upon her arrival into Rohan, she was greeted by a loremaster under the name of Arealia, who was the herder of the meras. Kriegerin asked if Rohan had shield-maidens and Arealia said yes. After Arealia lead Kriegerin into Edoras, King Eomer assigned her as a member of his riders. After her positioning was given to her, Kriegerin thanks Arealia for making her life meaningful again. The two forever became friends.

Scorp Madness
My first toon was not named Scorpio, my wife named my champion Aliwynn after our first daughter. I renamed all my toons after I transferred and came with the theme Scorpio after my sign. After I renamed all my toons, I still kept the name Aliwynn, but I became know as Scorp.

Aelinmir-Hunter
Slight lore braking he is a Peredhil born into slavery in the far east near the sea of Rhun and knows only his mother, a mortal taken when Esgroth was destroyed by the dragon. He does not know his sire. A wondering band of Noldor exiles rescued him at the age of 25. Stopping for trade and rest in Mirkwood, the Elven king Thranduil decided to take him into his household. At the age of 50 he travels to Rivendale with his minstrial friend Quellepaur. Under the tutoring of Lindir Quellepaur wishes to see more of Middle-Earth and Aelinmir travels with him further into the Western lands ending in Celondim.
-
My number 2 character is not interested in his past. The dirty dog has no feeling at all for family lineage, much to the chagrin of his father. You will most likely find him down at the local tavern, drinking and wenching; and avoiding combat as much as possible.

Westernesse is the Westron name for Numenor, not specifically Cardolan. All Dunedain are descended from the people of Numenor.
The Dunedain are referred to as both "The Men of the West" and "The Men of Westernesse" in Tolkien's writings. Elendil's people (Men of Numenor) settled in Arnor and Gondor. The Dunedain of Cardolan were just one portion of the Dunedain in Middle-earth. Aragorn and the Grey Company were Dunedain. The people of Gondor were descendents of Numenoreans.
Gandalf said of Denethor:
"He is not as other men of this time, Pippin, and whatever be his descent from father to son, by some chance the blood of Westernesse runs nearly true in him; as it does in his other son, Faramir, and yet did not in Boromir whom he loved best...."
If a LOTRO player chooses to play a character in whom the blood of Numenor (Westernesse) runs stronger than most, that is not outside the realm of possibility from a lore standpoint. Any character from Gondor could potentially make that claim.

Great Post!
I loved reading everyone's Bio's - great creative community we have here...
Urwendil - I just wanted to acknowledge your efforts in keeping this thread alive - and to add my endorsement in your personal back story - It is not a stretch for me to think that not all of the Numenorean blood was spent in the fall of Cardolan - what little lore we have on it says that the royal line was spent and the people who gathered at Tryn Gorthad were overcome by the plague and then finally the haunting of the barrow-wights, but it is not hard to imagine that there were survivors or others - in fact I suspect that many of the Men of Bree and Tharbad have Cardolan blood in their veins.
So don't mind Rad - he is our self appoint lore guardian that would probably argue lore with JRRT himself.
I have a sub creation of lore and mythology of my characters origins and back stories that is intertwined with JRRT Lore, Turbine Lore and my own additions that connect in very complicated and amusing ways.
I have hopes of sharing them with this community as soon as I get them the way I want them... through a series of graphic novels - some of them I have shared already - or at least introduced some of the characters... in the comics I have posted... But there is more... much more to come.
In the meantime i will post this little tease here illustrating some of the logic trees and time-lines that I have worked out detailing my back stories...
http://imageshack.us/a/img9/7392/logictree.png
This is not meant to be readable - but only to illustrate the amount of work and thought I have put into the intricate weaving of some of my characters backgrounds and how they interact with each other - this game - and the lore of JRRT.
So until I get it sorted out and ready for other eyes - I leave you all with a quote from JRRT:
"But once upon a time (my crest has long since fallen) I had a mind to make a body of more or less connected legend, ranging from the large and cosmogonic, to the level of romantic fairy-story....I would draw some of the great tales in fullness, and leave many only placed in the scheme, and sketched. The cycles should be linked to a majestic whole, and yet leave scope for other minds and hands, wielding paint and music and drama."
JRRT letter to Milton Waldman of Collins
Note: my interpretation of "(my crest has long since fallen)" is due to JRRT believing that no one would be interested in his tales - something he was told by his publishers often - and not that he changed his mind of a "leave(ing) scope for other minds and hands, wielding paint and music and drama."
Take care
And please keep the sub creations coming - JRRT IMHO would approve.
If you doubt it read "Leaf By Niggle" and consider the allegory.
The only Allegory story Tolkien wrote that I am aware of.
Ok Rad - let me have it...

Of my characters that have stories, my favorite is Statiq. Elf runkeeper. For one reason or another, I got her good and drunk soon after creating her. And instantly I knew this was her lot in life. She's a "drunken fist", basically. Always drunk, especially while fighting. She murmurs and slurs out her enchantments that bring forth the lightning n' such. And of course has very fluid, loose, somewhat wobbly martial arts melee combat skill. She drinks also because she's angry at her race for leaving middle earth instead of standing and fighting. She's a bit of an angry drunk. I have her carrying around a big Skein and riding around on keg'd goats and horse all the time, with a keg on her back as well.

Thanks for your support Dwarendele! I may also point that Aglahil's Númenórean connection comes from his mother's side and probably hers as well. Most of the time we hardly hear about the female members and their fates of even the highest class families, not only in the stories of Arda but in whole history. That and your thinking have been the basis of my extension of the lore... As for Radruin, the more lore-guardians the better ;) I catch myself arguing with Tolkien himself in my head and not too seldom :D
Thank each of you for your wonderful stories. I haven't finished reading them all but I certainly will. Please keep up the flow.
The interrelated characters have been both an inspiration but also confirmation for my thinking. As a matter of fact, we may hear bits of "Urwen"s story soon...

My main, Narlinde, is an Elf Minstrel. She was born in Gondolin to minor members of the House of the Golden Flower, and lost both her parents in the Battle of Unnumbered Tears. She fled with the other Gondolindrim to the Land of the Willows, where she grew to adulthood and learned her craft singing laments for all those who had been lost. In the Second Age, she rallied to the standard of Gil-galad and became a minstrel-messenger and aide to Lindir, Elrond's house minstrel. Narlinde was devoted to her friend, Araniel, a Noldorin princess, until Araniel journeyed into the West. Now, Narlinde lives to drive back the darkness and to renew the prosperity of Middle-earth.
I have a couple of alts, all of whom have stories, but the one I play the most is my Loremaster, Mirhiril Moonblossom. Mirhiril's mother is a Captain of Gondor and Mirhiril was mostly raised in Gondor, but her father was a trader dealing in gems and precious metals from Far Harad. There was no love between her parents, but no real animosity between them other than political conflicts, and she even spent a year of her childhood with her father learning the jewelling tradecraft. Mirhiril has always felt split -- belonging to neither the world of her mother or of her father. She devoted herself to learning and lore, and much preferred the companionship of animals over those of her peers, because those peers teased her for being different. Mirhiril was an oddity, like a flower which only blooms by moonlight, thus she took to the moniker Moonblossom (really, Mirhiril is based on another character of mine by the name of Moonblossom Jones -- call her Jonsey -- who is a police detective with an unfortunate hippie name). She also has a bit of moon-madness in her, a wanderlust that calls her off to adventure, particularly in the far north because there she is considered exotic for her southern heritage, not feared and reviled.
My other characters are: Cloudberry Rainysong, an elderly Hobbit Burglar who is completely bewildered by her two Minstrel daughters (Cloudberry believes in the virtues of silence. Her daughters... do not.); Honeymilk Bramblefoot, a very young Hobbit Warden who wishes she were a Loremaster; Arodwyn Amarricsdottir, the Guardian daughter of an infamous Rohirrim Burglar, who has an amazing way with insults and taunts and an incredibly foul mouth; Helkalinde of Lorien, a rather young Elf Runekeeper of that realm who has a fascination with dwarves (which is rather creepy and inappropriate for the dwarves, too, not to mention other elves); Lanthiril of Mirkwood, a solitary Elf Hunter of somewhat mercenary bent, although she would never do anything too disreputable; and Tenacity, a Captain of Bree, who is a stubborn young woman very bent on getting her own way, a natural and charismatic leader, if somewhat prone to getting in over her head with trouble (everyone calls her Tenacity because it fits her much better than her given name, which is Prudence, because prudence is not a virtue which Tenacity has ever embraced).
I also have a few characters who have "died" (I no longer play them): Mavi, a Captain of Dale and her sister, Vidu, a Minstrel of Dale, both good-hearted mercenaries; Talara, a Champion of Rohan who had a rather standard &&&&-and-revenge backstory; and a few others that are scattered about.

'Not a stretch'? Sorry, mate, but when you're directly contradicting something then a 'stretch' is exactly what it is at a minimum. And here you're just making stuff up, same as usual: back then, the Dunedain didn't intermarry with the locals, which was why they'd grown steadily fewer in number. The Bree-folk were just ordinary folk, sharing ancestry with the Dunlendings. That's why 'Strider' stood out among them, because he looked different to the locals.
As for this idea of there still being Dunedain 'of Cardolan': it might help to remember that the plague had taken place fourteen hundred years before. Let's say there were a couple of survivors then you'd have a 'last of the Mohicans' sort of deal, fourteen hundred years in the past. Whatever they did then, they didn't stick around because we're told that there were no Dunedain left living in Cardolan. And the idea of a viable population after all that time (meaning that there'd have had to be dozens of survivors of the plague, something which could hardly have escaped notice) is both lore-breaking and silly as they were in deep trouble, pretty much on their last legs, even before the plague came. It just finished them off.

I leave you all with a quote from JRRT:
"But once upon a time (my crest has long since fallen) I had a mind to make a body of more or less connected legend, ranging from the large and cosmogonic, to the level of romantic fairy-story....I would draw some of the great tales in fullness, and leave many only placed in the scheme, and sketched. Have you actually read the letter, or just that one bit? In context, JRRT had evidently long since realised that such a vision was 'absurd', which is what he says immediately after, and that was why he'd become crestfallen. This is the entire paragraph from the letter:
Do not laugh! But once upon a time (my crest has long since fallen) I had a mind to make a body of more or less connected legend, ranging from the large and cosmogonic, to the level of romantic fairy-story-the larger founded on the lesser in contact with the earth, the lesser drawing splendour from the vast backcloths – which I could dedicate simply to: to England; to my country. It should possess the tone and quality that I desired, somewhat cool and clear, be redolent of our 'air' (the clime and soil of the North West, meaning Britain and the hither parts of Europe: not Italy or the Aegean, still less the East), and, while possessing (if I could achieve it) the fair elusive beauty that some call Celtic (though it is rarely found in genuine ancient Celtic things), it should be 'high', purged of the gross, and fit for the more adult mind of a land long now steeped in poetry. I would draw some of the great tales in fullness, and leave many only placed in the scheme, and sketched. The cycles should be linked to a majestic whole, and yet leave scope for other minds and hands, wielding paint and music and drama. Absurd.
People always leave off the 'Do not laugh' and 'Absurd' when they abuse that quote.

My 2 mains the dwarf Bruagnor and his adopted human daughter Cattybree were based on chars from another story.
Bruagnor was once a king among dwarfs that grew tired of the duties and monotonous life of a king. He craved for adventure and had a pulling to find the lost kingdom of his ancestors.....MORIA! He knowing he could never leave his position as leader faked his own death even to his closest of allies (so he thought). After the potent potion he used to stop his heart and fake his death wore off he snuck out from his crypt of kings only to find his loyal group of adventurous friends waiting for him. The group of 5 said there was no way they were letting him hog his greatest adventure and glory all to himself no matter how pig headed the dwarf could be in his refusal of help. So the band of adventurers including King Bruagnor Battlerager's daughter Cattybree sent off to answer the now former kings calling ....MORIA!

It's generally bad form to quote one's self, I know, but I feel the need to correct myself on closer reading of the thread.
I keyed in on the concept of the blood of Westernesse, not on the heritage of Cardolan specifically. I understand the position of the poster I was responding to and thank Rad for not taking me to task on it. :)
I might still tend to be a little more flexible in my interpretation for the sake of the players, but I fully understand Rad's position.

The full quote does not change my interpretation of the quote - thanks for playing.
And something you guys ought to remember... we are talking about personal fanfiction here - role playing...
No one is suggesting that our back stories ought to be included in the canon.
Its all just a bit of fun to amuse ourselves and each other - its like armature musicians playing well known songs - people will recognize the songs even if they are played out of key, simplified or arranged differently.
Lore is important - I get that - I would expect any license holding enterprise to pay strict attention to the lore details and to not make too many bold claims or lore breaking additions... if they are packaging something and selling it under the Tolkien name.
But we are just a bunch of silly people playing make believe with our little virtual dolls - I think some levity can be applied and we should be allowed to just enjoy our folly without someone smacking us with the lore stick every time we have a tea party.
And that's where I always bang heads with Rad and other lore guardians - when they come into a thread that is obviously complete whimsy and going to be full of non canon, lore breaking, made up, fanfiction nonsense ( which is kind of the point)- and tries to get all serious... and authoritative and point out the errors of our ways. Thank you captain buzz-kill, but i believe the title of the thread is "What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?" not "nit-pick my bio and tell me how ridiculous I am."
In short you are no fun - and I'm not playing with you anymore - Nah! (sticking my tongue out)
So in the context of a game based on Tolkien lore that has stretched the boundaries of believably for the sake of fun game play - I can accept and enjoy a characters back story and add it to my own little lore breaking universe and have a much richer experience for it - for the sake of fun game play.

For all practical purposes, take this background with a grain of salt...
Acasta’s Lineage:
Thingol (Elf) = Melian (Maia)
Luthien (Maia: 50%, Elf: 50%) = Beren (Human)
Dior (Maia: 25%, Elf: 25%, Human: 50%) = Nimloth (Elf)
Elured, Elurin, Elwing (Maia: 12.50%, Elf: 62.50%, Human: 25.00%)
Elured (Maia: 12.50%, Elf: 62.50%, Human: 25.00%) = Ellisiane (Maia)
Acasta (Maia: 56.25%, Elf: 31.25, Human: 12.50%)
In Tolkien Elured, Elurin, Elwing where children of King Dior at the time the city was destroyed by the children of Feanor. According to Tolkien both Elured and Elurin were left in the woods to die, while Elwing was spared by one of the repentant children from their deed and eventually married Earendil the mariner, and went on to procreate Elrond and Elros, with Elros being the grandfather of Aragorn. Where I differ from Tolkien is that I claim that Elured did not perish at the woods as believed, and instead was “adopted” by a woodland creature, likely a wolf, and grew up in the wild all of his life and traveled the lands in search of food while avoiding civilization, since the instincts of his adoptive wolf mother taught him that people were dangerous and all together bad. It was during his travels he stumbled on Ellisiane, a Maia woodland bound entity who was also a benefactor of a nearby village. Somehow Elured sensed the goodness in Ellisiane and allowed contact with her, from Ellisiane’s side; she felt compassion for the unfortunate Elured and befriended him and eventually love among the two grew as she began to teach him the ways of civilization. Ellisiane became pregnant with Acasta as a result of her love for Elured, but their makeshift camp/home was destroyed by a band of marauding Orcs, and Elured in rage of the Orcish attack went mad and attacked the band of Orcs and was slain in the process. Ellisiane pregnant and seeing her husband slain by superior numbers, had no alternative but to return to the village she had helped so many years. Unfortunately the villagers saw that Ellisiane had become pregnant outside of wedlock and rejected her, yet was allowed to live alone in a small hut. Ellisiane was alone, broken hearted from Elured’s death, and weak from sickness and poor nourishment; died while giving birth to Acasta. Acasta would have been left to die, had it not been for the timely intervention of a wandering priest who rebutted the locals and insisted they took care of her. Acasta was reluctantly taken care of, and grew not knowing the identities of her parents. She was later rescued from her squalor by a kind Elf by the name of Illendil.
With that background, Illendil taught Acasta the ways of the Elven culture, exploration and the Hunting profession; which defined her basic skills, or at least where they originated from.
Now Illendil was in search of a mystical artifact that would one day help fight off the minions of Sauron, which had been lost sometime after Sauron’s first fall from grace. The artifact itself is only a rumor, but to an archeologist such Illendil its one of those things that must be found, such as today’s archeologist still looking for the Arc of the Covenant. In time Illendil and Acasta were ambushed by Orcs near Fornost and Acasta was forced to run away as her mentor sacrificed his life to give her a chance to escape. Among her most valued possessions was her mentor’s notes on his research, which she intends to continue. Unfortunately during her escape, her mentor’s notes were lost to her pursuers (a lucky arrow shot, cut the strap of the satchel carrying the notes); and she spend years roaming around the country side looking for the band of Orcs that had taken the satchel as a price. Eventually despondent from her failure, she went to Barrow Downs to die, but by reflex instead of allowing the barrow Wight to kill her, she fought and destroyed the evil creature; to her great surprise among the treasure of the Wight was her mentor’s satchel. Acasta knew her mentor originated from Rivendell and wanted to return the satchel to her mentor’s kin and letting them know of her mentor’s fate.
In her way to Rivendell, she stopped at Bree, where the local Hobbit Burglar guild, stole her satchel. Thanks to her Hunter skills, she was able to track the thieves and as a result of the struggle to regain possession of her satchel, the Hobbits were slain. Today the Hobbits have a bounty to avenge their fallen comrades, and Acasta looks at any Hobbit with distrust and dislike as she makes her way to Rivendell.

i dont have one for ella sadly , hard for me to come up with a good story for her
but for my dwarf champ who spends his days farming and drinking - Aleguzzler Thedrunken
found in a vat of Ale as a baby, Aleguzzler was taken in by the family of a dwarven tavern owner. They were astounded by the amount of ale the boy could put away. As soon as he was old enough he was apprenticed to a farmer since the family could no longer support his drinking habit. He can be seen often in hobbiton surrounded by kegs and crops.
but when he travels........
His horse is so cool its from lossoth....
the phermones he secretes have been know to drive moose wild for miles around...
When he speaks, it has been said to be the most wonderful sound in the world.....
Orcs, goblins and wargs tell cautionary tales to their children of him....
When it rains, it is because he is thinking of watering his crops....
His teeth are so white , when he smiles it lights up moria....
Fellowing with him gives you 9000xp just for joining him...
His biography is so long, it had to be shortened to fit in this window..
he is the most interesting dwarf in his kin....

As a Tolkien lore fan myself, I agree with you to a certain extent.
Holding Turbine accountable for their handling of the lore (with the understanding that lore devs don't necessarily have the final say) is a good thing, depending on how it's done (constructively). Unfortunately, not all who profess to be lore experts agree on all aspects of Tolkien's work, so one may come in and declare something totally lorebreaking, another may come in and argue that it can fit the lore just fine, and never the twain shall meet. But of course each will consider him/herself in the right and believe the other to be addlepated.
How players choose to set up their characters and immerse themselves in the game is another matter altogether. There can be differing opinions/interpretations of lore, there will be players who are casual Tolkien fans and not cognizant of all "lore" aspects, and those who are just fantasy fans who are following their own paths (perhaps influenced by the game world, perhaps not). If they are having fun, that's really all that counts. :)

The young Tolkien had a naive dream which he later dismissed as 'absurd' (while enjoining his correspondent not to laugh at him) but you take it seriously anyway as if he'd retained that vision? Rubbish. You might have noticed how the Tolkien Estate isn't at all keen on letting others get their hands on any more of his work; that would be rather odd if he'd genuinely wished it to be openly shared.
As for the rest, you might care to ponder why I picked on that particular one and left all the others alone. I'll tell you: it's the only one that combines aping Tolkien's style with casually mangling the story, which is two-faced posing. Now subtle stuff I don't mind so much, but having a people still extant when they were supposed to have tragically perished in a plague fourteen hundred years before is hardly that. Even the game takes that bit of lore as a given. It is part of the back-story of the Rangers, after all. You know, just a teensy bit significant.
And please, don't try to pretend the game is 'strict' about lore. You know full well it's not.

A reasonable suspicion. Not all bloodlines are passed on through marriage alone. There is such a thing as children born out of wedlock. Who knows how many people might have acquired such bloodlines throughout the millenniums and where they might have migrated to, exponentially passing on the bloodlines to subsequent generations.

My name is Lumfoman McGorbadoc. I am a hobbit Minstrel, the child of the elf hunter Luminiborn, and obsessed with freeing the dead(I always use titles obtained from killing the dead. I think I am currently an "Enemy of the Dead." )
This is copied directly from my bio:
I was born in the Marish as one of the dependents of the Brandybucks. I found a great interest in music as a child and began training myself in it, but then disaster struck. I fell into the Brandywine and floated down away from the Shire. I managed to not drown but lost consciousness and only survived because I was fished out of the river by a Elf out hunting. He brought me back to his home in the Ered Lune.
I was taught how to fight by him and how to use my music to devestating effect. Soon after I began wandering and wandered right into the barrow fields of Hauth Lin where I nearly died again. I escaped but decided to devote my life to fighting the enemy and especially the dead that he raised. I headed to Bree to begin my work and while passing through the Shire encountered Bounder Boffin who started me on my journey.

I guess we will never know if Tolkien truly gave up on his "naive" ambitions or just conceded to the nay sayers, and the Tolkien estate is not JRR Tolkien - so their actions serve their purpose only while trying to uphold their interpretation of what Tolkien truly intended. My interpretation serves my purpose - I can take it anyway I choose, rubbish or not.
My assessment of the game (or Turbine) concerning lore is: "a game based on Tolkien lore that has stretched the boundaries of believably for the sake of fun game play."
My expectation is: "any license holding enterprise (should) pay strict attention to the lore details and to not make too many bold claims or lore breaking additions... if they are packaging something and selling it under the Tolkien name."
I never claimed they met my expectations - but my assessment of their treatment is generally favorable - in the context of a game.
I don't care if a person claims their character is the twin brother of Aragorn and his motivation in Middle-earth is to claim Isildur’s Bane (since his brother gave up on the claim) and now he follows the footstamps of the fellowship trying to gain the ring from Frodo before it gets destroyed - If it works for them - and they are having fun - then go for it.
It doesn't change one word of the books - the lore is safe. The Tolkien estate can rest at night and the world keeps spinning.
What I do mind is somebody coming along and saying - "Hey you - with your little imagination and your make believe - you're doing it wrong!"
Your (or any other persons) opinion of my stories and their viability is not going to stop me from playing doll house or posting my whimsy or continuing with my personal folly - but it might stifle other people, who are trying to use their imagination and be creative - that is rubbish - and IMO amounts to bullying.
I don't see what you get out of it - other than to insert your superior knowledge and grasp on the subject.
That is a questionable motive.
Listen Rad - I respect you and your knowledge of Tolkien lore - I have asked serious question concerning lore and have always valued your insight and input. But... when it comes to role play and fanfiction - which is certainly lore breaking and non canon by definition - I don't think your "literary elitism" attitude is justifiable and instead of beating down people who dare to insult your sensibilities with their "rubbish" it might be better if you just passed or lightened up a bit and added constructive input - or just try to enjoy it, if you can.
I would be interested in hearing any of your sub creations and back stories... i think it would only be fair of you - to make your self vulnerable by putting something out there that came from your mind and heart - before you single in on others.

Finmicthalion
I like this thread. I took this from the bio of my main character.
Born of Feynallion in Lothlorien.
Finmicthallion was An elf who studied the ancient lore and was known as a scholar.. He fought in the first war of Edhelion and only returned some 500 years later.
His adventures did not truly begin until the year that Frodo took the ring. He learned of the One Rings current situation and be friended two beings. A hobbit named Bobben and another Elf named Glolach. Their adventures are listed here.
Finmicthallion is also a member of the Kinship "Forged By Fury"
From Loriens' golden leaves of fall,
was 'Thallion of the ancient lore,
Who aided Frodo in his quest.
At noble Elronds great behest,
rebuilt Edhellions timbers tall,
And found where Dourhands did lay,
West 'ere Angmars shadow lay.
He drank of lifes sweet bitter taste,
Then sent himself in quickened haste,
To face the shadow come what may.
Though many foes they faced in throngs,
worthy of the legends songs,
His power and strength he fought to lend,
in hope that Mordor they would end.
Hope you like it:)

Oh, please. The man said it was absurd himself; anyone with a grain of sense would take that as a hint. And yes, it's plain you're hell-bent on making it serve your purpose regardless of what the bloke actually said. That's what selective quotation is all about, ignoring context. I mentioned the Tolkien Estate because I have a hard time imagining that if it had been Tolkien's wish for his work to be 'open sourced' (as we'd nowadays call what that passage implies) that they'd instead have kept such strict control over it, barring the works which Tolkien had already sold the rights to.

Fair enough, but hardly relevant when we're talking about going even further than the game does.

LOTRO is in no way 'strict' about lore. It'd be a very different game if it were, niche rather than mass-market. Yes, they pay attention to lore details but more as a source of 'colour' or plot hooks to hang content on.

I look forward to the continuation, what a neat way to start it all!

Not really A bio – but this is a brief glimpse of how I introduce one of my main characters in one of my fan fiction follies. Also I included a family tree outline that illustrates how Bako and another of my other characters (Mercivale Maker (and Merci's black sheep brother Percivale)) are related.

Bako Bongo was stuffed...
He had came to The Prancing Pony to treat himself to a big bowl of Barliman Butterburs famous Dirty Drake Tongue soup.
Something he did quite often.
For Bako would always joke that his favorite meal was "The one that someone else cooks and serves."
And it was mostly true.
Not that he couldn't cook! No-sir, Bako came from a long line of bakers on his fathers side... mostly pies and pastries... but...
He just didn't really enjoy cooking. He had taken on his mothers family trade of farming for that very reason.
"Why deprive others from doing that which they love to do?" he would say.
And there was little doubt that old Barliman loved to serve.
So Bako would come to dine at The Pony to get his favorite meal, while simultaneously allowing Butterbur to do what he loved.
"It's a win-win." Bako thought.
And now that he had ate... It was time for a nice pipe full by the fire and to hear the latest news - if any.
For that was another reason Bako came to The Pony as often as he did...
To hear the news and travelers tales of the coming and going of the folk in Bree-land - To catch up on the town gossip and to gather any tid-bits of information that he could use.
Bako was always looking for an “angle” as he would call it.
Any odd job or errand to run, a trading opportunity. Anything to supplement his income. - For if the truth be told: Bako wasn't too keen on farming either and he has found that hearing the right piece of information, at the right time, could earn him a months worth of farmer wages...
Sadly, tonight’s prospects didn't look too promising...

Wonderful! I'd love to hear more about Bako :)

Out of all of Tolkein's work that I have read, I am most inspired by the Silmarillion and the 'day before days' when the Noldor rebelled against the Valar.
I think that the House of Finwe (the elven house of the Noldor) have some of the most fascinating characters in Tolkein lore - and non moreso than Feanor and his sons, and his brothers, who show the qualities of Noldor elves in the elder days as being powerful, fierce, passionate and proud warriors and the greatest craftsmen. Their deeds in the Elder Days are unsurpassed in Tolkein's lore and their story is one of the most tragic in Tolkein. The seeds they sowed resonate through the history of Arda.
The elves of the House of Finwe are the inspiration for my main, who is an Elf Guardian from Lorien - which is the last bastion in Middle Earth for the Noldor (Galadriel was Feanor's niece).
I rolled a Guardian to challenge misconceptions about elves that exist. I once saw a picture of Fingolfin challenging Melkor / Morgoth to single combat at the doors of Angband - surely the greatest Guardian to ever walk Middle Earth, and an Elf!!!!
My character is a tribute to Feanor, Maidhros, Fingolfin and those other courageous and fatally flawed Noldor who left Valinor for Beleriand in the Elder Days.

Great! And that picture of Fingolfin challenging Morgoth is the best I've seen :)
Nevertheless, my favourite character is Finrod Felagund, son of Finarfin and elder brother of Galadriel, not only for his prowess, steadfastness and loyalty but also for his unmatched wisdom ("Athrabeth Finrod ah Andreth").

Thanks man :) I'm glad you like the pic....it really sums up why I like tanking.
Finrod was an absolute legend and one of the good guys. He was the first to take on Sauron when he was a servant of Morgoth iirc.

Yes, at Eithel Sirion. Luthien showed up later to rescue Beren. Then the two of them took on Melkor Morgoth and retrieved one of the Silmarils. Fingolfin was pretty tough, himself, as was Turgon and Idril his daughter, wife of Earendil.

The elves of Lorien are, in the main, Sindarin elves, not Noldorin, with Galadriel being the only notable exception. The last bastion of the Noldorin elves in Middle-Earth would probably be Rivendell.

I am surprised that with all the freedom we have to RP however we like, no one has come up with an awesome story like mine:
My name is Aranorn, long-lost brother of Aragorn. I also have claim to the throne. When we were young, we were fleeing to Rivendell and we were attacked by a band of orcs. Aragorn and my father were the only ones who were able to get to Rivendell. I was captured by the orcs. Some of the orcs wanted to kill me, while one compassionate and loving orc named Kollach wanted to protect me. He raised me and taught me how to fight, while protecting me from the other orcs. When I was older, the chieftain of the orc band wanted to challenge me to a duel to the death. I killed him, and they named me the leader of their warband.
On my journey's, we raided a traveling group and captured some of the women. I fell in love with one of the women and we had a child, who eventually moved south to Bree to open up his own business. He opened up an Inn which would be none other than the Prancing Pony. My son is Barliman Butterbur.
In the Trollshaws one night, I found my brother Aragorn. I was going to kill him, and as I was sneaking up behind him, I saw the most beautiful Elf-Maiden I had ever seen. Her name was none other than Arwen. I was instantly captivated by her beauty and I fell in love with her. I could not kill my brother at this time, because she would see me as a monster. I had to flee and wait to try.
Over the years I sent many orcs after Aragorn and he fought them all off. He had no idea they were being led by his long-lost brother. I also assisted the black-riders in their journey from Mordor to the Shire. I had received word that the ring was in the hands of a hobbit.
I finally had a chance to ambush the Fellowship later on, at a location known as Amon Hen. The only casualty they suffered was the one they called Boromir. I was not present at the fight, but a lot of my warband was. I ordered them to take the hobbits that they captured to Isengard.
Now, I am in Rohan waiting for the right time to strike at Aragorn yet again.
That is all I have right now for my story, I will write more as they continue to open up more to the game. But I intend on having my character be apart of the gathering of the orcs that attack Helm's Deep. I also plan on my character being inside Helm's Deep pretending to defend against the orcs but actually assassinating other men and sabotaging Helm's Deep from inside and without anyone knowing.
Let me know what you guys think...........

There's a difference between trolling, and having a tongue-in-cheek RP story.
The whole point was for people to read it, think its preposterous, find it funny because of how preposterous it is, then realize it's just a friendly joke.

If that's the case - then I apologize.

While I appreciate the apology, and gladly accept it, I feel there's no need for you to be sorry. I should be sorry for having not made it abundantly clear at the end of my post it was a joke.
I had originally typed it out, and had a ;) at the end of it, but when I went to submit, there was an error and it didn't post. So I had to type it out again, and this time I forgot the wink haha.

No, that is not correct. The Elves of Lothlórien are predominantly Silvan. Tolkien wrote in Appendix F of The Lord of the Rings:
Quote:
The Elves far back in the Elder Days became divided into two main branches: the West-Elves (the Eldar) and the East-Elves. Of the latter kind were most of the elven-folk of Mirkwood and Lórien; but their languages do not appear in this history, in which all the Elvish names and words are of Eldarin form.
The footnote to this paragraph states, in part:
Quote:
In Lórien at this period Sindarin was spoken, though with an ‘accent’, since most of its folk were of Silvan origin.

Well, mine don't have the, my parents are dead, and i'm all alone in middle earth, and learning to make my way on my own. lol. i've heard that one a few times. my toons are just that, toons. no lore, nothing. just toons.

Yes - YES - you got it
