Greetings, from Strayhold
I am Blackhawk, the Leader of Strayhold. I wish to inform you about our guild, and perhaps, chat in game if you like.
Strayhold is a guild here on Silverlode... You may have seen some of our members in game: Sheherazade, Andring, Rahne and Glasja, among others. I hope your encounters with them have been as enjoyable in passing as mine are daily.
On the old forums, you may have known me as Imzakhor, and I was espousing running a permadeath guild named Elder Servitor. Well, with the introduction of "nobody ever dies" idea, there was no real reason to continue this train of thought. Even so, we decided to create a guild, and Strayhold is it.
Aside from our friendships and adventures, we are a guild that shuns the auction hall as a method for gearing up our players. Purchasing ore in the AH is encouraged; purchasing Awesome_Axe_01 is severely discouraged.
*31May2009 Edit: due to some changes in LotRO, usage of the Auction Hall to purchase gear is now officially sanctioned in Strayhold, and actively encouraged. Please visit our site for a more detailed explanation of this change to Strayhold Policy.*
That is all for now, thank you for reading. I am not really looking to 'recruit' members here, just inform those of you on our server who we are, and what we are about. We will always remain a smallish guild, hoping to eventually retain a core of 30-35 players is a goal.
More than that, I hope to enjoy LotRO as much as I have always enjoyed Middle-earth, in all its forms.
Please, visit our website at http://kinship.strayhold.com, where we have forums dedicated to this wonderful game.
Namarie!

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
I'm interested in the rationale for not purchasing better equipment in the Auction House. My first assumption is that you want your guild members to work hard on specific quests that give specific items. My second assumption is that your guild members are very lucky on drops or burgles and that you encourage them to share with their fellow guild members.
But I could be wrong with both assumptions so I'm asking.. why?
Thanks,
-
Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
Thank you for asking.
We as a guild adhere to two rules regarding gear:
Wear what we loot.
Wear what we make.
We do not wish to be outfitted in the result of simple purchases, where grinding for hours for silver pieces could become a goal.
We wish to be known inside our guild as promoters of advancement, which includes crafting, questing, and fellowing.
Being expected to 'hand over' gear for guildmates will never be required. I imagine kinship-auctions in Strayhold will eventually be highly utilized. Since being in Strayhold means that you agree to these terms, getting good crafted armor means that you will necessarily support others in guild performing crafts that you cannot.
Interdependence, and closer camaraderie, is sure to follow from that.
Thanks for reading... Maybe I see you in Middle-earth!
Visit our forums at http://kinship.strayhold.com if you are still curious.

Mostly true, except for intent. I would not require certain members to try for certain quests, just for the loot. In fact, in voice chat, I can usually be found asking for ideas, suggestions and requests for objectives nightly.
As guild leader, my only real job is taking that information, and deciding a nightly course of action... Or courses!
I generally lead the melee aspects of our fellowraids, as well. We have leaders better versed in other areas than I, as well.

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
That's an interesting philosophy, I hope it works out for you, if it does it should really promote crafting in your kinship. Good luck.
Surely, your members will be able to sell on the open AH, though, right?

Actually It's not all that rare. I stick to this policy as well. To date I have not purchased a thing from AH and am not likely to ever do it unless the game changes. Everything I have was either quested, dropped to me or crafted by a friend. Gear turns over so fast buying at the AH seems to be pointless anyway. Anything my main can't use I mail to my alternates that are now swimming in gear they can't use for 10-15 more levels.
It's a personal choice but it works for me and I am sure it will for them.
-
Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
Yes, selling on the open market is quite alright.
I might point out that purchasing items is not disallowed. Anything we have looted/crafted in the past, is open for purchasing from the AH. Purchasing things like ore, ingredients, etc. is encouraged, and is in fact the purpose, in Strayhold, for gold/silver/copper.
-
Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
Strayhold is now actively recruiting.
We want good, strong players, with good, strong opinions. You will find we have some very knowledgeable players, who are willing to help you.
Our Kinship is about half full right now. We are looking for about 15-20 more solid people. If you aren't good at playing, that's OK, if you are willing to learn. If you are good at playing, I hope you are willing to teach. :)
Please head to our forum for more information.
Thanks for reading!

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold

The fact that we have not forced Angmar's unconditional surrender means I have not been recruiting effectively.
So, get in mah BELLAH! I mean guild. I mean kinship. ;)

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
-
Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
GL. that is a pretty cool philosophy. i hope it works out for you guys.
if your core members pick diff professions and you send each other mats it's very easy to steer clear of the ah for quite a while.
however, the artisan tier is rough because the gear isn't good enough considering the required mats. by the time your crafters hit master artisan, you'll already be 42 and ready for tier 5. =/
the only way around that is either to buy copious amounts of ore/hide/wood or to have a bunch of explorers farming mats for 1 person of each profession. although should your main crafters decide to quit the game/guild, you are pretty much screwed from that point on.
i won't even get into legendary books/pages. if you guys can manage to get all of your legendary traits without getting bent over on the AH, you'll have my utmost respect.
-
Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
I appreciate the sentiments! I haven't had much success getting acquainted with other guilds in game... Been doing too much just in guild or solo. Even so, look me up. :) If only to ask me "You guys have a Champion free?"
Strayhold is solo-friendly, for whatever reasons you choose. If you just want to be alone for the night/weekend/week, it's totally cool. You will still get guildies asking "wanna come to Garth Agarwen?" But they are simply requests, not veiled threats to come Help The Guild Or Else.
As we have shown to ourselves, getting together is when Strayhold really shines. We have good, experienced players, with good senses of humor in guild. Virtually all of our current roster were in closed and open beta.
Please, do send a tell in game. We would love to add 15-20 more players that share our ideals.
-
Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
I don't think I have received one in-game tell regarding this thread, or post on our message board regarding joining our guild. I find this strange, considering the recruiting success I had in my previous guild, in EQ1. Even so, I enjoy spouting off, so here I go again. :)
We have quite a few players from 20-43. Our minimum level is 15, but you will move up fast from there, especially since our craftsmen can make some serious critical-gear for you to slay Evil faster, regardless of your level. :) We are quite knowledgeable about the game as well, and are definitely not a "click RRRRRR" during FMs group. Wings of the Windlord... Good times, gooood times.
To Guildleaders: a Cabal of Leaders would make for a great experience. Smaller guilds, like ours and yours, would do well to find each other in game, to increase familiarity with other players, and perhaps increase the chances that we all can play with people that KNOW HOW TO PLAY, and be a pleasure doing so as well. :)Please post something regarding this on our messageboard. With enough interest, I will make a new section dedicated to Guild Leaders, where we can discuss issues, plan attacks, etc.
And yes I know, LotRO has kinships, not "guilds". I just like the word "guild" better. :)
Thanks for reading!

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
Given your hilarious "Level ... and I hate this game" threads... I'm surprised you aren't getting more response. I'd be tempted, but I'm VERY happy where I'm at and don't intend to leave. :)

That's good to hear :)
But I agree with what HDiver said, considering your guild philosophy and those '...and I hate this game' posts, I am surprised you haven't had more interest.
I posted on your forums, maybe we can help each other out with fellowship quests from time to time :)

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
I just wanted to give respect to Blackhawk for taking time out last night to travel to Combe to supply arms and encouragement to those of not quite as far along the path.
I also very much support and love the Wear what we loot, Wear what we make mentality and think that it gives a whole new dynamic and life to the experience.
I am thinking that I will try that.

I appreciate the sentiments. I am an RP'er at heart, so the occasional "trip for RP" won't be avoided by me.
Aurora/HDiver, look for me in game, or look for thurbrand/sheherazade/colthorn, glasja, rahne/athran, who are officers. Let's get it going. :) I have some good ideas.

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
Changed our recruitment thread on our own board.
Come join us, soon... We are going to live in Evendim, starting on launch night!
-
Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
The "don't buy gear on the AH" rule hasn't been an obstacle really. Folks are good about helping each other out, even with loot drops. My prime bow for a few levels was provided by a fellow member who looted it and thought "I bet Rahne could use this."
We provide each other with a lot of help with crafting resources and recipes, to the point that even secondaries are well provided for. But I've never been asked to give stuff away. It's just the spirit of camaraderie that has grown among the members.
I'm hoping we can bring more folks in, so that there's always people of various levels that can find others to team up with.
-
Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
If you don't have a kinship, well you've come to the right thread. ;)

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
Well, we finally have our "Token Loremaster" so we are going to have to find another reason to recruit more. :)
I think we need more girls in guild. Or guys. Whatever. :)

Thanks for the offer, but I am more interested in growing our own guild. We have a loose alliance with Carpe Jugulum, and for now, that works for us.
We are small, skilled, determined, and willing. Anyone likeminded would do well to visit our message board, and see what we are about. If not to join, then to see what it would be like just to fellow together.

I sent someone your way last night. Seemed like a real nice guy, but we had to turn him down cause we're closed and if I recruit any more my kinnies will kill me :)

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
I swear, this thread will entice someone to inspect/fellow with/join Strayhold, if it kills me.
Don't nobody get any smart ideas, either.
http://kinship.strayhold.com
What is MOST annoying, though, is our header image looks perfect on Firefox... But horrible on IE. I hope you people didn't just look at the header image and run away laughing. :(
-
Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
I have not given up in my quest to entice someone to join our guild through the official forums. Eventually, someone worthy will fall prey to my uber techniques of enticement.
I really find it strange how difficult it is to find people to join the guild. Hm.
-
Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
If you are registered at our forums, you have a PM waiting for you.
Be careful, it's going to sting a little. But, you can take it if you are Top Shelf. Some of you aren't, though. I'm looking at you Josy! Oh, and Hannah! Also Aurora, and everyone in Carpe Testiculum! And Cnapa, you don't call, you don't write...
Sorry about the Testiculum thing. I foresee pain in my near future...

I did! i just joined your site for fun. we have a very small guild, kept fragmenting after the fall of SWG, but have found our home here in LOTRO on silverlode. Personally I would love to merge with another guild, but I know my kin are not up for that.
We are an adult kinship, though thats not a hard and fast rule, like I said, small, I would rather have a small kinship of good people than a large kin of not so wonderful people whom i dont know, but at the same time I would like to meet new people and grow our guild slowly.
We range in levels from 48 ( our great and wonderful leader) ( dont tell him i said that ) to under 10 with most of us in the mid 20 range. I would probably be higher if i could settle on a main character :) Havent tried Monster play yet, though am open to it. well.. i DID make a spider named webigail just for fun..hmm what else,
well, our core players play daily( sometimes for hours ) and we have a few who play more casually.
well i think i have rambled on long enough.. i hope this has made sense as I have NOt had a cup of coffee yet today!

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
Well, this recruitment thread has still not found a single new member. I shall soldier on!
It occurred to me that in our Application Requirements thread, I did not spell out the Strayhold Loot Rules. Silly me! That's why we don't have applicants in droves!
I'm going to live in my own fantasy world where that statement is true.
Anyway, please inspect not only our application requirements, but our Strayhold Loot Rules in the same forum on our website. To sum up: we are an anti-NBG guild.
-
Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
We are still alive, we are still recruiting new players, we are still questing together, and we are still having fun together.
Recruiting here has claimed Strayhold's first victi--- er, MEMBER. Yeah that's right, member. Gratz Dolfindel. :)
Might YOU be the next? (Here I am pointing at the screen, through the Internets, at YOU)

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
Well, just wanted to say I joined up. And let me tell ya, I was very impressed. Everyone was so very laid back...and helpful...I finished bk1 thanks to them and got a bad *** armour set (including some very sexah new flip flops ;) ) and a nice shiny new sword *pokepoke* for my lil elf guard. And I totally agree with their AH philosphy...I've always been that way myself.
Anyway, I'm a newb to Silverlode but have been trolling your boards for a while now. Hope to see some of you in-game. :)

Welcome aboard pookiegrl75. I, too, have been very pleased with how cool everyone is in Strayhold. Several players have gone out of their way to give me resources and craft me cool gear. Hopefully, we'll get to play together soon.

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
Hey, it's been about a week, and I know you are all DYING to read something that's not PvMP drama.
So, given that...
We have grown significantly in the past week. Generally now, we have 9-12 people on during core night hours. This means that we are just slightly less than 1/2 full. Our guild is going to be small and tight. I am *SO* pleased with some of the new people in the guild. Very active, funny, and so willing to help.
Shout out to Carpe Jugulum (Beregond especially!) for coming out to help defeat Book 5 Chapter 5. Chapter 8 is a go tonight, thanks to you guys!

Hi, I'm Isil. My main char on Silverlode is Isiliel,a lvl 34 Loremaster, and I was honored with joining Strayhold a couple of weeks ago. I just want to tell all newcomers who might be interested in joining us that the people I've had the pleasure of interacting with in Strayhold so far have been helpful and funny as all get out. I have been made to feel very welcome and a part of this kinship and I recommend it to anyone who would like to check it out.
Happy hunting to all!

Yup yup....I mean, what other kin has a flip-flop wearing Court Jester in their ranks? That alone is recommendation enough! *nods sagely* Btw, great finally getting to meet you and anar the other night....'twas fun! And Boon too. :)
-
Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
Yeah, I really enjoyed it, too. And Anar is still laughing about it. He takes getting picked on well, don't you think? We do it a lot and he gives as good as he gets. We're both competitive in some areas and we have a great time with it.
Btw, I wear flip-flops, too, since I live in the deep South. They're a necessity most of the time. My favs are brown leather Earth Shoes and they are very comfortable.
Hope to see you again in-game real soon.

Since I joined Strayhold I have found this to be a great group of people.
They have an excelent sense of humor, are willing to help any way and how ever they can and we always have fun. They encourage improvement in all of a characters aspects and will help you do just that.
So why not check us out on our web site. I think you would enjoy being a part of our band of misfits.

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
Actually I don't mind if people know... People in Strayhold are considered people, not Tanks or DPS.
Yeah, I care, and my purpose as guildleader is to facilitate fun for everyone, in whatever form that may take each particular evening. I take great pride in doing just that.
We are just over half full of main characters (though our players' alts are welcome to join as well). We will have no more than 30-35 active members at any given time. We are, and will remain, a small, tightly knit, group of adventurers looking for fun together. You don't have forever to join, since we will turn away even the most worthy applicant once our ranks are filled.
Plus we have an offline roster! oooooo. And, we have a cool header graphic. ahhhhhhh. And some wear flipflops. Duuhhhhhh......
;)
-
Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
It's nice to see a kin leader who cares so much about his kinship and the people in it, and realise that they ARE people, not just a class, or a number. You all seem a great bunch and a boon to Silverlode.

Very kind of you, and a good way to make up for the threatened GROINTHWACK from earlier.
I will take exception with Hobbits though. I'm still trying to determine if they should be shaved and THEN broiled, or simply boiled, and scoop the hair out as it floats to the surface. Time, and practice, will tell.
You might wanna check your own website... ;)
-
Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
As you can see from our Offline Roster, we have grown just a bit. We are just slightly over half full, so we are looking for about another 15 players or so to join us.
We will be tackling the end-game content, just not tomorrow. Soon though!
Good group of players here, knowledgeable, willing to teach. And we don't let our recruits walk around with subpar gear, either. :)
-
Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
With the Book 10 patch, our level requirement has changed significantly.
Main Characters of ANY LEVEL may join Strayhold as a recruit. Recruits that attain level 25 will be attributed the rank of 'Member'.
Please see our message board section "Applications & All About Strayhold" for more information. :)

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
It's alive... ALIIIIVE!
Strayhorde is our Monster Tribe, led by Rahne / Ozfang. It is open for business. It is perfectly fine to join the Tribe without being a member of Strayhold! So join up and give me a new target in the Moors. :)

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
We have a few new members in Strayhold, and as such, our desired core membership requirements have changed significantly.
Core Application Requirements
If you would like to see exactly who and what is in our guild (and tribe!) See this link:
Strayhold Offline Roster
It's kinda fun to click the headers and see 'em sort. Well at least for me anyway.

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
Update from Strayhold!
We are about one half full at the moment, and are looking to complete our roster as soon as possible.
Here are some interesting links!
Our Offline Roster: http://kinship.strayhold.com/roster.php
Here you can see our classes, levels and vocations... See just how you might fit in.
(You need to be registered at our message board for the rest of the links)
Application Requirements: http://kinship.strayhold.com/index.php?topic=5.0
Loot Rules (basically, non-NBG): http://kinship.strayhold.com/index.php?topic=64.0
Leaders and Officers List: http://kinship.strayhold.com/index.php?topic=113.0
Our offline roster now shows only vocations that are higher than Apprentice. OooooOOOoo.... AhhhHHHHhhh.....
If you would like to join, or at least take a visit, come to our forums, or find me (or any other officer!) in game, I would be happy to chat with you. We have a few forum trolls (me included!) so you would probably have fun just taking a peek, even if you aren't looking.
Thanks for reading!

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
We are still looking for those special few... Those 6-10 more members. Are you one... And you just don't know it yet?
Check out our roster... It's sortable. You can see exactly how you might fit in.
http://kinship.strayhold.com/roster.php
The roster is replete with levels, classes, and vocations... And a select few have even used it to upload images of their characters. Highlight my character (Blackhawk) to see what I mean. :) Yes, I'm a programmer too.
Or you can check out our (very active!) Message Board:
http://kinship.strayhold.com
Lots of fun on the messageboard.
You can also visit us in our kinship house: 5 Waterbank Road, Bruniach.

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
The time that I have been with StrayholD has been nothing but great experiences. I've became very good friends with many of our members and it seems as there is always someone on that can lend a hand when need is true. A very mature player base, most of us married, kids, real lives (yes, for real!) mortgages, car payments, etc.. Anyway, just wanting to share a view from someone recently new to StrayholD.
There's my $.02

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
Ha! You're poisoned in your picture!
Seriously though, I just joined recently (two weeks? three weeks? feels like yesterday, 'time flies when you're having fun,') and I love these guys, even the couple hobbits in the kin. Everyone's helpful, and my sense of humor fits right in. Awesome Kin. 9.5/10 (lost .5 because nobody's found a hobbit for the Castle's doormat yet.)

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
I've been a part of Strayhold now for about a month and a half, and I have to say, it is a very active kinship with excellent members, a living forum base, and a leader that is second to none.
We are all very excited about the growth of the kinship, but more importantly the quality of the players. It amazes me that we continue to pull in people of good character. If you get a chance, please take a minute to visit the forums and sign up. It's a great community not only to those within the walls of the kinship, but also those outside.

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
The Poison on my picture is symbolic in the daily struggles that the race of Men, Elves, Dwarves, and Hobbitses endure daily in their fight against evil. It incorporates the battle stance that proves no matter how something may try to bring Strayhold down, we refuse to be defeated and through our own perseverance we will be victorious.
Wow... That's deep. I wrote that all by myself without help or anything. I are smirt.

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
Reposted from our forums:
Class needs (None, Low, Medium, High)
Burglar Medium (2)
Captain Low (1)
Champion Low (1-2)
Guardian Low (0-1)
Hunter None (0)
Loremaster Medium (2)
Minstrel High (2-3)
Once we get to a maximum of ~35 highly active and involved members, our recruitment will close.
We do not want a huge, impersonal guild. No no. I can't even imagine being in a guild with 100+ members! We want a smallish group, that can accomplish great things together, and know each other implicitly.
If that sounds like something you want, and don't have... Come take a look. We are about 75% full.
Either way, come to our forums if you want... It's highly active, and some of the threads are hysterical.

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
Well, after playing, ah, er, I mean "testing" in closed beta from a year ago, and coming back recently from taking a 2-month break, I finally decided it was time to join a Kinship....I just wasn't "Top Shelf" enough to solo Book 1 Chapter 11 in the Great Barrow.... * sigh *
I joined Straylode 1 week ago, and have had a great time since!
My first night, Hawk and Lwar and others decided I needed better weaponry....and "POOF!" I received a new UBAH-Axe....and as a Guardian, I was even given an UBAH-Bow....I didn't know a Guardian could put the hurts on a baddie with a bow, until I got that one!
The Kinfolks have been helpful and funny, and I am now working on Book 2 Chapter 6 or 7....in one night!
If a closer-knit Kin is what you like, this is a good one to be a part of!
Good times, good times :)

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
As of last night, as Thurbrand Grandmastered Metalsmithing... Strayhold has at least one GM of every profession.
Check http://kinship.strayhold.com/roster.php to see the full list! (Click the vocations button).
We craft for people outside of the guild too, contact anyone in Strayhold to get directed to the right person!

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
We are still looking for those select few who wish to join a Guild... BEFORE they have done everything.
We have started working on the Rift, and are looking elsewhere to explore.
Check http://kinship.strayhold.com/roster.php to see the full list of people in our kinship... Check out our levels, classes and vocations, and see exactly where you might fit in. It's fun to sort the columns. ;) Click an Avatar's Name, and you can see their stats, including their traits! Ingame pics of Avatars are there too, and biographies.
Class needs (None, Low, Medium, High)
Class Need
Burglar Medium (2-3)
Captain Low (1-2)
Champion Low (1-2)
Guardian Low (1)
Hunter Low (1)
Loremaster Medium (2-3)
Minstrel Medium (2-3)
Any class/level may apply. Check out our application requirements to see if you might fit in.
Or just come to the boards and read some threads. Most will make you laugh, or at least smile. OKOK, prolly just roll your eyes. But it's not vomiting, right?
Choose Strayhold: at least it's not vomit.

Re: Greetings, from Strayhold
Now we have a Chat server too... No need to register to use it!
I am working on improvements, as well. Regarding colors, seeing who is online, etc.
