Scariest thing... The traps in the Haunted Burrow! ;)
Sauron, of course.
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth?
The Black Rider of Budgeford...
Sergio :-)
That Aragorn hasn't heard of 2nd Breakfast and may not know about elevensies, luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner, or supper either (though I have to believe he does actually know about luncheon and dinner [or supper]).
;)
What's the scariest thing in Middle Earth?
The LoTRO GRIND!!!
An angry Dwarf, of course.
Tolkien's description of Shelob:
Quote:
Most like a spider she was, but huger than the great hunting beasts, and more terrible than they because of the evil purpose in her remorseless eyes. Those same eyes that he had thought daunted and defeated, there they were lit with a fell light again, clustering in her out-thrust head. Great horns she had, and behind her short stalk-like neck was her huge swollen body, a vast bloated bag, swaying and sagging between her legs; its great bulk was black, blotched with livid marks, but the belly underneath was pale and luminous and gave forth a stench. Her legs were bent, with great knobbed joints high above her back, and hairs that stuck out like steel spines, and at each leg's end there was a claw.
the scariest thing: a hungry hobbit..
Nothing is spookier than a dwarf in a dress!
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth?
Seeing the quest panel to accept the Sara Oakheart quest Prologue Instance: The Hideout
The scariest thing in LOTRO...for me it’s a toss-up between the very first time you encounter Bogbereth in her lair. It’s like a Shelob redux. Angmar is creepy enough as it is but having that spider drop from her perch and start all that squealing and whatnot gave me an old school B-movie jump. I didn’t know what I had provoked that first time. Thank goodness for Hide in Plain Sight. The other scary part of the game is the first time I went into the tunnel at Cirith Ungol. Without spoiling it for anyone, there is some serious dread on that quest. It was just downright unpleasant (and a part of the game I so very much wanted to experience!). And the best part of that is that you don’t see the end the way the quest wraps up, it just fades to black. Seriously, that quest was just an awesome part of the Epic and put together so wonderfully. But damn that dread just kept me on the edge of my seat!
Oh and lastly the thing that scares me the most about LOTRO is it shutting down. It’s one of the only games I do play that I like as much for its social gaming as I do for its content. That’ll be a day that I won’t want to happen.
The spiders in the old forest
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth?
All of Mirkwood, it is the ultimate setting for Halloween, especially the whole spider area.
/boo emote.
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth?
A Shire free from the forces of Mordor where hobbits are allowed to travel to other lands like a plague of locusts devouring everything in sight.
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth?
The War Of Wrath at the end of the First Age when Beleriand feel into the sea to be lost forever.
The Haunted Burrow....
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth?
Giant spiders.
Bare chested dwarves!!
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth?
I think that would be Morgoth.
Gandalf when he's angered.
I truly hope the drawing is random because I know this one would not get picked but the scariest thing in Middle Earth is.....
LAG
Being in an Eriador area, at level, and walking straight into a roving threat!
Always make me run screaming like a little girl...
(But in reality, I agree that LOTRO ever shutting down is scary).
I'd have to agree that the Roving Threats are pretty darned scary when you're on level in an area and run into one.
Gollum's loincloth and the tenuousness of the threads that hold it up.
I'm also not crazy about the wight hands that crawl around on their own. *shudders*
Shelob
Shutting down Middle-Earth. 10 more years would be very nice, and then we can start Lotro 2.0.
What is the scariest thing in ME?
The developers. :)
The first time I saw a huorn in the Old Forest was pretty scary. I mistook them for normal trees and almost screamed when one uprooted and started to chase me!
the old Old Forest creeped me the heck out. the first time one of those trees started chasing me i nearly jumped out of my chair.
Destroy our rewards stuff from quests because we don't have enough chest space... My precious...
Lag. Biggest badess boss in game would have to be the Lag. Always leads to death.
Keep your thousands of Lotro Points and the week for sale of what you want NEVER comes..
The Balrog statues in Mordor!
The scariest thing is one day you log in, and find out your account has been hacked and you lose everything.
The scariest thing in middle earth is....
The other players.
Just read the rest of this thread, if you ever doubt that for a second ;)
Accidentally poking an RT with an errant arrow can certainly be disconcerting - tho in my case it's usually a short-lived discomfort. :o
Those 1-step-too-far invisible "you're dead now" walls are pretty scary. :/

@wach^^: ...or read /world chat on the weekend. :D
Scariest thing on LOTRO is the price of warsteed cosmetics in the store. Rivendell steed is gorgeous, but no cosmetic is worth that much.
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth?
That mordor/high elf will be availlable for LP during winter when most of us must study for the exams of university/college and there are a lot of festival days to celebrate.
So I guess i'll just have to get used to doing them right in the summer hollidays then,
cheers
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth?
Cliffs. It's more than once that those sneaky so-and-so's ambushed me when distracted.
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth?
The Old Forest!
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth?
The moment you mistakenly destroy an unique item.
Me.
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth?
Lobelia Sackville-Baggins,
for they say her glare could curdle milk and can smite an orc with the swing of her brolley.
The scariest thing....hmmm. Imagine such situation. Late night , playing in dark room, headphones on. When u are in middle of exploring Lingris with all those spiders around you, and personaly u have arachnophobia, and u have that itchy feeling behind head, that u need to scratch yourself all over. Counting in mind one more, and again one more to kill, and then suddently something touching ur feet. U scream at laud and then you realize that this is your doughter that cant sleep came to you. Your's cream wake up ur wife that turns in a pretty pissed of nazgul. And "That" is a scariest thing!.
The scariest thing is this big, orange, eye-thingy that seems to come up from out of nowhere. I try to move away from it, but it actually compels me to cower. It does the same to all my fellows, so at least I know it has nothing to do with the musty cheese or Hornblower pie I ate the night before.
(You know why they call 'em "Hornblower" pies, don't you?)
Lag. Almost always leads to death
What is the scariest thing in ME?
The Nemesis in low level areas.
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth?
./spooky_horn
Alternatively would have to say going through Mirkwood the first time. It's so dark and spooky then you have the spiders popping up out of no-where!
The scariest thing in Middle-earth is this old Dunlending woman, of whom I made this short video clip. Even more intimidating than Sara Oakheart.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORWRSr4YSn8
Laugh at the end of "Trouble of tuckborough" instance :)
I'm not fond of looking down into the depths of Moria (so I usually close my eyes when I jump).
The awfully high prices of things in the auction house.
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth?
The Bugs! ^^
Grishnákh
Easy question.
A hungry hobbit while you are holding a pie at your hand.
that snake that slithers about outside of the forsaken inn while ur turning in tasks
gaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!
The lack of fast travel in many places.
Crafting a 2H LI with the passives you want.
Bilbo asking Frodo for the ring in Rivendell.
The scariest thing?
Walking through an area with DANGEROUS orcs on all sides, carefully.... trying to avoid aggro.... and a BURGLAR popping up right in front of you, dressed in some scary outfit, scaring the %##$@ out of you.....
Yes, I have jumped in my chair when someone did this to me.... :D
A balrog, since Morgoth is locked up for now.
Spiders, never like those long, thin legs they have. Something than I dont like more is the voice of the dead quest qivers, it is terrible.
The scariest thing in Middle-earth is obviously the demon face that Bilbo makes when he sees the One Ring while Frodo is in Rivendell.
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth? At the current time, the future.
I like the new hairstyles of Men, Elves, and High Elves.
Running a chicken up Mount Doom!
Scariest instanced story: We cannot get out
Scariest moment: pulling a white hand orc in Moria somewhere and accidentally face tanking it while on my baby level54 mini in one of my first ever fellowships. In those days heal aggro was serious. I still played with the camera zoomed in pretty close and I'd just got a laptop where I could put graphics on medium. I squealed very loudly. The fellows laughed so much we died.
Scariest place:Old school Moria. The scenery killed me more than the mobs. I suffer vertigo. It was very dark. And where it wasn't dark it was disgusting...carcasses, slime, and those nameless things that still freak me out.
Scariest creep: almost any Warg but Spilo's GBW scares me most. I see him. 1 sec later I am puppy chow.
Scariest music: Da Bugans
the lag, the troll s in world chat the ignorance of some forum posters, and the gambling lootboxes all annoy me but they don't scare me. :P
The scariest thing in Middle Earth?
Not being able to log in, troubleshooting for two days, only to finally discover through a hard disk diagnostic that my disk drive is exploding with bad sectors, too many to even finish the extended test...and realizing I might not have enough to buy a new hard drive this week.
I'm spending this weekend backing up any unsaved data, copying my drivers, and taking other steps before my HDD becomes a paperweight.
Seriously, though, although I've only been playing less than a year, the scariest thing for me so far is joining a PUG at level :eek:in the Great Barrows only to find the others in my group have no idea either what is around the next corner. I love it!
Scariest thing in LOTRO?
World Chat. Hands down.
Scariest thing in Middle Earth?
Many things, but fear must never stop us.
For me Angmar as a whole .... so dreadfull!
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth?
The fact that the Free Peoples are using the resources of Mordor without second-thought or consideration that no good can come from using the devices of The Enemy.
Being a mini and finding out you can't remove a bleed, wound, disease or poison that is rapidly killing your fellow(s).
A Creep randomly getting a map to the Shire. That would be amazing!
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth? Anything that requires walking out over a great height, or going along the edge of a cliff or chasm.. I know we're only pixels, but I hate the potential for a fall/splat.
New faces of women of people after update
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth?
The thought that a Hobnanigans chicken might get fed up and attack you.
...the fact that so many people believe, if they follow the rules set by the evil powers, they'll get away safely. As if the same powers would keep their own rules, and not bend them according to their will, whenever they want.
Just look at what happened to the Dunedain that followed Saruman. One wrong word, and they ended in the iron pit.
Greetings, Polymachos
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth?
Travelling around in Middle-earth and then opening a well hided box...
It is full of spiders!!!!
Seeing a Balrog for the first time
Scariest thing in ME is Sara Oakheart

What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth?
When you accidentally toggle walk instead of run and still manage to move faster than Sara Oakheart!
What is the scariest thing in Middle-earth?
Getting Dale-men's Crams multiple days in a row from Hobbit Presents. Makes me feel like all good luck has run out and the world is ending. :(
The license expiration date.
I'd have to say...the spiders. Not just any old spiders: specifically, the spiders in the Limlight Gorge.
...seriously, those things are the size of HOUSES! And that noise they make...ugh.
The Nameless Things in the depths of Moria are a pretty close second.
Shelob. I can't read about her or see her in a movie or game and not be totally creeped out.
If you're playing a hobbit or a dwarf and you're stacking on any other Big Folk toon against a wall, the screen perspective will zoom in to your head and you'll see half of the faces of those taller toons. Half eyeballs and flesh. Creepy...
Those hobbits will never come out of the burrow ever again!
