Naked Adventuring on The Legendary servers

Naked Adventuring; What is that?

Several folks have mentioned this in various threads, mostly in the "Lotro has become too easy" threads.
A few of us noted our experiences and someone (Echoweaver) suggested that we get a thread going to more thoroughly discuss it.

So what is it?

It is playing the game from the start with a character that uses no armor or jewelery.

Why would you do that?

I have found that it greatly increases the challenge so that it feels somewhat like it did back when the game launched. The game is not such a cake-walk when one is equipped this way.

Why on the Legendary servers?
Three things (maybe more) are different about the Legendary Servers.
1. The experience gain rate is reduced by 40% so you have more time to explore/adventure in any region before you out-level the mobs/quests.
2. Some of the old long-since removed quests have been revived specially for the Legendary Servers (Marsh Flies, etc).
3. At least in the short term, no one has a stable of crafters and high-level characters to pass down goodies to your new characters, so you have to get this stuff on your own.

OK, I said above that I would report back on my progress as a Naked Adventurer (play from scratch with no gear) but after completing the Intro, I just have to report early.

I died in the Intro.

Yes, I admit it.
I was paying attention.
I was trying to kill a group of mobs for a quest.
I was not AFK, I was not lagged out.

My wife (Reaboj on the Forums) was actually laughing out loud at me. "You died in the Intro? YOU ARE SUCH A LOSER! How can you die in the Intro?!?"

They have revived some of the old Intro quests specially for the Legendary Servers. One of them involves killing 8 Marsh Flies.
Now, you may not believe this but the Marsh Flies are the toughest mobs in the Intro.
But I was doing fine, had 3 down and 5 to go and they were hurting me, but not greatly. Maybe knocking my morale down by 50%, but not a problem.
So, I just jumped at every bug I saw, trying to get out of the intro with a few extra XP.
I took on the Queen. She had a friend join her.
I was killed by a GD pair of flies!

I did not re-roll. Pressing on with Biggly, the indomitable hobbit Burglar.

I made it over to Needle Hole and acquired the 3-man Troll-in-a-cage quest. I was (still am) at level 8. This is a level 10 small fellowship instance.
I was feeling bold and strong and ready to take on a puny troll that let itself become caged.

That was a mistake. I don't think a Burg at L8 has enough crowd control (red line and I'm stickin' to it) to keep the 4 or 5 dwarves off my tail.
Died again.
I will come back at L9 and give it another try.

Reminded me of doing this quest in "the old days".

I have to say, Onyi, I am enjoying this.

Now I have achieved level 10. I went back to Needlehole to re-try the Troll-in-a-cage quest.
They still beat me.
I really miss not having HIPS....
But, I think I can take those dwarves out!
I will not give up....I have a plan.

Well, my plan worked and I'll keep quiet about it to avoid spoilers.

It worked in the sense that I killed the Troll, but unfortunately, that doesn't complete the instance. His captors kicked my tail.
I was revived outside the instance and have to now start it again and;
1. Kill the Troll
2. Get out of the instance alive.

I have more plans.
I am getting close to L11 and I am hoping I can get this done before I level, but it's not looking good.

I tried to get a fellowship together (Naked adventures only) but no takers.

I shall endeavor to persevere.....

We started a Kinship of Naked Adventurers: Victory's Secret

The only rule is No Armour and No Jewellery.
2 members so far, Hobbit Burg and Beorning.
Crafts: Explorer (sticks and stones for gold and the Tailor will come in handy for Burglar Tools and Satchels, etc) and Weaponsmith (Weapons obviously).

If you play on Anor and want to join up just look for Biggly or Ursanna.

Gonna be fun to see what we can accomplish as nude-but-not-rude.

but you could have done this on a general world and included everybody..... As it is only us lifers or vips can join you in your endeavours...

Unless of course it was the -40% xp rate that you wanted?

I never considered Naked Adventuring until maybe a week ago. I first heard of it in one of the threads in the Legendary Server forum. We did try to create a sort of Hard-mode a few years back, by gimping ourselves with only dropped gear and no legacy gifts and other things like that, but that never worked quite as well as this.

And I agree, this would work on the normal servers. In fact I may convert one of my lower-level alts on Crick.


Concerning Tales Of The Ancient Naturistaner:
Up to L14 and holding.
Running around prospecting and paying my respects to the various foreign horse-renters, while waiting for my kinmates to catch up.
Finally soloed a 3-man quest but not without significant, repeated recovery costs. The hobbit-in-a-cage quest over near Woodhall.
I am finding consumables to be quite important. They make the difference between success and run-away, run-away, run-away.
I'm trying to stay at level or below except when it comes to the Epic stuff. That's a bit easier in general and I like to share it in a duo or group anyway, just for the camaraderie.

Our kin is growing slowly. We have a good assortment so far; hobbit, beorning, dwarf, high elf. Diverse crafting also; explorer, historian, woodsman and tinker.
We are learning the Virtues are a nudist's best friend.

And now it's quite late and I need my rest before the Seahawks game.

The -40% is a big factor. As Boraxxe said, we tried to come up with a "hard-mode" on the general servers but no one was interested because leveling was the only goal (for many, if not most) and we would still level too quickly for the quest lines to remain challenging. It seemed more likely we would find like-minded individuals on the legendary server since a lot of the players are really here to find a challenge again, even (especially?) at the lower levels. We lifers are just looking to have fun :D

Tell me about your alt on Crickhollow!

I am not on the legendary servers. I have been resisting it because I'm only reaching halfway through the content on Crick, and I want to see the other areas of the game rather than playing through content I've already explored pretty thoroughly. However, there's nothing keeping me from stripping an existing alt down to her skivvies, especially if there are other players I might find to group with.

(I'm pondering creating a character on a Legendary server, zipping through the content like a munchkin, and the parking it until the servers advance. BUT that would still take a lot of time I could spend exploring new stuff on Crick. Alternately, perhaps it would be reasonable to use a Gift of the Valar to jump in when the servers advance. I spend a lot of time playing at low levels with my kid and have the content at levels 1-30 practically memorized. I really want to spend time playing *something else*.)

Update at L15 (on the edge of 16):
Waiting for some of the kin to complete their respective Prologue adventures and catch up and then we plan to do the Epic content as a group until it goes Red.
Then we will go back to solo adventuring and help each other as needed.

I am proud to announce that our newest member completed the Troll-in-a-cage instance at L10, without assistance! Gratz Axemojo!
A dwarf Champion.
He did have some visits to those accursed rock-circled spaces, but as a Champion, he had to take out every dwarf in the camp and then the respawns on the way back out.
Biggly just snuck by all those beard-boys and only had to deal with the cage guardians (oh, and the caged Troll, but the Troll was a piece of cake compared to the 5 dwarves guarding him) and Biggly needed the help of the great one, Ursanna.

I did some of the 3-man and a 6-man quests while leveling up to where I am, but they were Blue-quests by this time and even nekkid, they were quite easy.
It may not get too tricky until we get to Book 2 (Uzorr and Weathertop), I have done Weathertop in a group as a fully geared LM, and as I stated in some thread, somewhere...the only challenge was trying to get a shot off before all the mobs in each grouping were dead.

I am wondering how effective a tank will be with no armor. We shall see. I have a feeling we are going to need a Minnie. I hope we can entice a few more naked adventurers to join us.

Oh, yeah, one important thing to report.
We have decided that there is at least one piece of gear that will be allowed.
Axemojo needed to equip the Stone of the Tortoise to avoid leveling beyond 10 while de-caging the Troll. That piece of gear provides no buffs or protections so it's cool to use that.
I only wish that it also halted exp from crafting as well as mobs and quests.
Yeah, we are still leveling too fast...crafting...

Now, it's back to sleep, er, work.

I stripped all the jewelry off my Burg in Moria and watched most of my stats cut by more than half. I tested that out against on-level foes, and it still wasn't that challenging.

This is what Onyi has already explored, but hey, I'm doing it again.

I guess it all comes off next time I play.

What level is the burg on Crick? If it gets tricky for you (pun intended- get it? burg= tricky? :p ) and I have an alt around that level maybe I can hop back onto Crick and get nekkid and we can duo something. (As I read this I can only imagine the inferred double-entendres but I have no time to refine my choice of words- lunch time) :o

ETA: OK, I have stripped off all my armor except chest and leg. Fighting yellow foes, this is starting to feel like it takes some effort. I'm using healing potions and food again, and having an extra foe join the fight unexpectedly has led to some close calls.

I will probably get up the nerve to take off another article of clothing soon. It's strip roleplaying!

Also, the waterworks have HALLUCINATORY TOADS.

Well, I have a level 50 Beorning, a level 53 mini and a 55 burg on Crick. Looks like you are on the other side of the USA from us though so we might have timing issues. Let me know when you usually play so we can shed these duds and mess up some dudes ;)

Update: Logged onto my level 53 mini, Oomabel and took it all off! Even threw on a Stone of the Tortoise so I wouldn't level yet. Then I panicked! I decided to start slowly by trying to finish a few quests that were light blue and working on some deeds to improve my virtues. But, even so, it wasn't nearly as scary as I expected. I thought a mini with only ~2100 morale (down from ~5500) and losing ~800 will was going to be a blob of squishiness but I was okay at least with mobs a couple of levels below me. Tomorrow I try on level.

Well, Biggs has reached L17 and is patrolling in the northern Breeland area.
Biggly has an alternative-type compadre that is L23 and has been hanging out in the Lonelands, I think he said he was named Boraxxe.

Biggly is a red-burg.
Boraxxe is a yellow-burg.

Biggly has decided to work very hard at being the best naked red-burg he can be. He will work, and study, and toil (grind) his way to exxcellence.

Boraxxe has decided that he will race to Mordor, find the one who constructed it, and rip the soul right out of him!

I am finding that the red-burg has a tougher time dealing with above-level mobs than the yellow-burg does.
And that is a bit weird, because this is the first yellow-line burg I have ever played. I have played many red-line burgs.

Crowd control seems to favor Naked Adventuring. "If yer not gettin' hit, yer not dyin!"
The redline burg, at least at these lower levels, has trouble with severe morale loss when more than one tough mob challenges him.
Two, he seems to be able to deal with, when more team up on him, "Green is slip-sliding away".

Must get more DPS.
Must hit faster.
Must not nod off.....

Our next Epic adventure involves Tom Bombadil and his merry band of wights.

It looks like it might be closer to 9-11pm ET tonight. Would you believe it's the night of my company holiday social?

I might be ahead of you or not. I have been incredibly random in my exploration of Moria. Right now, I'm actually pursuing a couple more pages of Bingo's journal in an attempt to help him regain his memory. I'm in the Waterworks because I fell down a well and thought the place was pretty.

I was playing on pocket tortoise, trying to get to a challenging quest difficulty. Then I found naked adventuring!

ETA: I done got myself killed! By accident! I got ambushed by a water salamander and just barely survived, and then a spider found me before I could heal. Legitimately overpowered.

I'm not totally nekkid. I seem to be able to keep a decent challenge soloing with no jewelry and two pieces of armor. It's nice to have SOME armor. I haven't gotten any slotted armor yet, but it would be nice to mess with it.

Alternately, one could choose a single item of jewelry and a single item of armor, thus getting a little bit of thrill out of gear -- one can pick whatever single thing is best from the spoils of questing and crafting.

I'm fighting a lot of yellow foes, though. I'll have to see if I actually get on-level, if it's still interesting this way.

I'm also equipping the pocket tortoise for tasks and crafting.

L18 and advancing.
I have been questing in The Old Forest.
All of the quests so far are L15 (3 levels below me) and seem like on-level quests (based on my recent experience running same class (clothed) on Anor).

Our crazy Go-for-the-gusto group has been running around in Nan Wathren, dying, and having a good time in general.
We tend to just go for it, when a conservative, group-engaged approach would be smarter, but we make no claim of intelligence in this crowd.

2 new members (if we ever manage to be on-line at the same time).

Our courageous Beorning just slaughtered Baugrach (elite warg wandering in The Chetwood) declothed and on-level! Grats Ursanna.

We have decided that a right of passage in our Kin will be attempting the Troll-in-a-cage instance solo and on level. There is no penalty for failing, but we all have to try.
My red-line burglar couldn't do it.

When I finally get on-level with where I'm playing, I shall attempt to once again feel the breeze on my behind.

For soloing, I think I like the strategy of one item of armor and one item of jewelry. That retains the excitement of getting better STUFF, and it does well for keeping challenge. With one item of jewelry and two items of armor, the yellow instance was just right. I died twice and had to pull out all my burglar strategy to isolate my enemies and pick them off by ones and twos. Very satisfying.

That is one of the drawbacks to naked adventuring. You keep getting that thrill when you see some really cool piece of gear as a reward for a quest...and then you remember, "I can't use it anyway...rats!".

But I am getting used to it and hoping every new quest will have some kind of weapon as a reward.

Well, the payoff is big. I was having a good time playing before this, but now I am obsessed. I'm rediscovering skills I never had a use for before and building more complex strategy and tactics. I'm eating food and crafting up a stockpile of healing potions (Wenslydale's a Historian). So much fun!

I am having a lovely time in the Moria Waterworks, which is yellow for me at level 52. I am about to level up, and I'll take off another article of gear when my quests get to on-level.

If, as you indicated, blue is more appropriately on-level for completely naked play, then that also helps slow down leveling on the normal servers. Right now, with equipping the Tortoise for crafting/tasks and then forgetting to unequip it, I'm advancing at a pretty comfortable pace :). But sheesh, I wish I could turn off the XP bonus for VIP.

You are certainly welcome to join us. So far all of our members hail from the western US so we are usually on in the evenings Pacific Time, but anyone from any timezone is welcome.

Rules: Only one really; No armor and No Jewelry (one exception listed below*). That in effect means that on your character sheet, the left and right columns must remain empty.

Any cosmetic gear is allowed, and any weapons, tools, etc are allowed (bottom row of the character sheet). So shields that slot down there are cool.

* The exception is The Stone of the Tortoise (Pocket Item, experience disabler). This provides no buffs or protections, so it's OK.

We have one group sort of holding around L20 (give or take a couple) and another at around L25. And no one is in a hurry (except when we run-away, run-away, run-away).

We have a new kinsman and he hails from the EU!
Welcome Nibble (we just call him Nibbs) a Hobbit Warden.
He seems to be a completionist which fits with Biggly (we just call him Biggs) but Biggs is not quite as fanatical as Nibbs.

Today I died a glorious death.
Working on the Spiders-in-Breeland deed (Honor Virtue) and they were a few levels higher than me. (Need practice as it makes perfect.)
I moved up to 23 of 30 for the first stage of the deed and was feeling like I was learning a lot.
I went from dropping to about 10% morale on the first few to keeping up to about 80% on the last few.
(activated Battle and Warding scrolls, a Hope token, Food, and a Morale/Power scroll)
Then kismet introduced itself.

Valuable lessons learned:
1. L20 Poison pots ain't worth a damn VS L23 Spiders.
2. Burglar skill "Cure Poison" (L22) also ain't worth a damn VS L23 Spiders.

Sometimes you are the windscreen, and sometimes you are the bug.

I've read the change list, but I won't appreciate the effect is has until I play for a while. The complaining forum thread isn't terribly useful for figuring out what this'll do for game challenge :).

I'm down to one article of armor on lvl 53. Spent like two hours yesterday crafting with my Cook alt so that I would be better equipped with food for my step into full nakedness.

OK, now that I have a couple of hours experience with low level Anor Burgs, one thing I can state that those guys like is the change to Touch & Go.
It's protection was reduced, but now it has an impressive healing aspect: 50% of Max Morale.

That is very helpful to these lower level Burgs, particularly the red-line Burg.

Also finding Fellowship Maneuvers have moved their way back into the rotation. "GO GREEN" is the mantra for our small 3-man group.
We have been hitting green even when it doesn't do any good (when we are all at near full health) because it helps develop that "muscle memory" so that in the heat of battle, we don't slip into that "red" habit.
When we are getting overwhelmed and the Minnie can't keep up, the FMs are helping quite a bit.

The Knife Throwing skill is interesting even if not really much use. Something to click when you are waiting for cool-downs on other skills. Considering the damage it does, it must be that the knife is consistently hitting the target in the forehead with the handle instead of the point.

That's about all I have experienced so far.
I will check out the CAP burg tonight. Looks like there is some new content to explore.

I finally succumbed. My new naked character on Anor is a Woman Captain named Ardith. She's level 7 and just got killed in Frostbluff.

We have had a growth spurt.
Our Naked kin is growing by leaps and bounds.

Echoweaver joined us with Ardith. She bring us much joy. She is always ready with anything and everything.

A Champ joined; Shivering has joined with a flair.
She completed the Troll-in-a-cage instance at L9 (solo).
This is quite an accomplishment.
Our previous "BEST" was Axemojo (a Champ at L10 who completed this solo).

This instance has been declared our right-of-passage quest for the Kinship.
You don't need to achieve success, but you must try to get it done at L10 or lower.

No one until today has been able to complete it below L10.

Question for the group...

Since we don't have the armor protection provided by...um...armor, we have to think about how to mitigate that. It's not that important under level 20 or so, but it starts to become an issue in later content.

So I'm wondering:

Is the way to go for me (Champ) and others who live off of hand-to-hand, close combat to think about the Blue line traits that would help someone tank? I would think we're looking for damage mitigation, block, evade, higher healing, etc.

But an alternative route would be to kill things so fast that they can't scratch your bare nekkid flesh for long. Again, in higher level content, you don't get to kill big mobs in a few well-placed shots, you gotta wear them down. If you're naked and taking damage, you might not last long.

We have traits, specialization, virtues, food, and pots that can keep us alive. Should I work on a Blue Champ or instead go Yellow (for that AoE on multiple targets)? Or go Red and use virtues/traits, etc to mitigate damage?

Yes, I can still one-shot on-level mobs.
No, it is not fun.
I killed 7 of the 20 required.
I collected 6 of the 10 items required.
I died about 6 times before I couldn't stand it any more.

Elite mobs are almost impossible to take out.
I know that if I kept at it, I would have eventually killed the elite that was blocking my progress to get the rest of the items I needed.
But, dying that often takes the spirit right out of ya.
It could be that changes in Virtues and significant buffing consumables would help, but end-game is not for the Naked.

(Interesting fact, with or without clothes Wink's Power level did not change at all. Must be the choices I have made in Virtues and gear.)

I'd sort of assumed that I'd have to restart the instance from scratch when I died, but apparently not. I and my trusty Gerald the Herald could just whittle away the Dwarves. The Troll itself wasn't bad at all.

I used every buff item in my inventory and had almost two full rows of buff icons :).

Hey. Maybe 1/3 of the Dwarves respawned each time? So some did, but not all. Since I'm in a brave new world where I die a whole lot more than I used to, I am now not sure what normal instance behavior is.

I got to the Troll on the first try but then screwed up and got nailed after killing almost none of the last Dwarf cluster. Upon return, I killed most of the Dwarf cluster. On the third return, I was more than equal to the remainder.

It occurs to me that when one is wearing no gear, the penalty for dying is pretty minimal too :).

Hmm. If we're looking for another good rite of passage, may I suggest the seasonal instance.

Shivering and I took it on yesterday. And, admittedly we were a duo going into a trio instance. But, dang.

I think I died about 20 times and ate most of my food.

It would probably have been good if my Cap had more than one healing skill. I will investigate other lines, but I think it was just that I'm level 12.

It was a blast. Would totally do it again.

It's not impossible.
In fact, now that I think about it a bit more, with a group it might actually be fun (like we are having fun now with our naked groups).

It would not be much fun solo.
One would need to be selective when choosing legacies for the Legendaries. Obviously, I didn't create new Legendaries for my experiment.
It looks like what Echo pointed out, that Onyi was onto something about needing armor beginning with Mordor, has some truth in it.
But, that would be trying to play solo. Mordor (I think) would be close to impossible to complete as a solo player.

But grouped...maybe that could work.
It would mean grouping for even the so-called "solo" quests, because the elites are very tough to defeat solo. Well, they were difficult for me to defeat during my experiment.
Definitely completing small-fellowship quests solo is perhaps out of the question.

Burglars have somewhat of an advantage in Mordor, at least I felt like I did. Sneaking (and disguised on a warsteed) almost seems like cheating in Mordor.

We have a tentative (almost definite) date for the level 20 group to eradicate the big bad meanies on Weathertop. This Saturday, 12/22/18 at 4pm PST, 7pm EST. We will meet at Candaith's camp and warm up at his firepit before braving the icy cold winds and heights of Weathertop. Please make sure you are up to the Weathertop quest in your Epic quest line. I would tell you to dress warmly but, really, who needs clothes? :cool:

Well, I think we are making great strides for all nudists- our level 20 group conquered Weathertop with ease. Then we cleared out the GB with a few minor casualties along the way but took on Sambrog at level 22. We are a little weak on healing which becomes something of an issue undressed but we continue to endeavor to persevere! Our 3 man efforts in The Inn of the Forsaken weren't as glorious but that was more a series of strategical errors than actual massacres. In the end though, Shivering and Nibble two-manned the final giant so we praise them with great praise!

I did it (I think it's the first L10 with no fails, but I could be wrong).
I think what made the most difference is just the general % increase you get on almost everything when you increase in level.
There were some battle strategies involved though, and I'll keep still about those to avoid spoilers.

The class disparity at launch made it seem normal for the time on say a champion, to annoyingly frustrating on say a minstrel. Class balance for simple levelling was really bad and it was made easier quite a few times along with class buffs or changes

Three of us took on the Great Barrow and won -- Warden, Burglar, and Captain.

It rocked. Naked is the way to go.

A cappy's herald is OK in our naked world (also LM pet). Anything that slots on the bottom bar is allowable. The only thing on the two sidebars allowed is the Stone of the Tortoise which I see you have :cool:

I am curious, did you redo any of your virtues? That is one area I have been much more selective about. I've been going more for the armour, resistances and morale than I do when clothed on the same kind of character.


I have also learned to take the death of my character more in stride playing naked. Used to drive me nuts if I died, now, as you say, it is inevitable :eek:

You definitely die some, but that's the excitement. I have to track morale and damage a lot more closely and pick my fights. But so far I'm surprised at how much on-level foes feel appropriately challenging rather than smearing the ground with me. I'm playing a Cappy and using my Herald.

I've been thinking of trying to see if there's interest in a naked adventuring group on Crick. I'm digging the legendary server now that I caved and created a character on Anor, but other than Victory's Secret here, none of the folks I usually play with are there. One doesn't have to create a special character, as you notice, just strip down and run around with fellow nudists when need strikes.

My Crick characters are committed to other Kins, so if I could attract enough interest, maybe a chat channel and corresponding forum thread? Maybe?

It took me several tries at the last boss, but I managed to solo Inn of the Forsaken on my naked level 25 Champion.

For all I know, you did start it.

This group grew directly out of a thread Onyi started about game difficulty in which s/he described experimenting with this technique up to level 60. I don't know whether Onyi came up with the idea independently or not.

I don't know if it's EVERYWHERE, though, just really enthusiastic :). Our Anor kin is still pretty small. I would love to see if I could get a group going on Crickhollow, but the more I think of it, the more I probably don't want to split much attention. Right now I'm really doing all my playing on Anor except some excursions playing with my kid.

I would love to see some more recruitment for the Anor kin. It's a good group with great community, but we're sparse.

I am shocked at how naked gaming has multiplied my enthusiasm for LOTRO. I read the endless complaining about how character classes are not strong enough, but it turns out that what I really needed was for my characters to be a lot *weaker* :).

Ye Onyi got the idea from my vids. hes a sub. i gave up on the series at 34 coz i got super bored of how easy it was. solo'ing GA/Nan Wathren/Dol Dinen quests, and coz i was bored of leveling tbh, my priorities were on my 50kin

You do need to make exceptions though, gearless can only go so far, you need to do like Rift boss solo's wearing very very basic stuff.

Though tbf, most rift bosses are solo'able without ever being hit. due to poor anti-kite mechanics


Keep up the good work! and keep uploading the vids, theyre great to watch xD nothing brings me more joy than watching solo's or solo'ing myself ;)

was my first episode of the series (with onyi in the comments who got interested in the idea), and (the quality improved after that episode), i had messed with my standard obs settings and it messed it badly, that and the recent addition of the damn flipping lone-lands weeds

It got boring very fast, i was hoping for some level of challenge but there was not 1, so abandoned the series at hmmm episode 15-16 i think. U23 had destroyed my will to live, and the subsequent patches severely messed me over, being able to auto-attack the turtle to death on a level 60 cappy while reading a book sat on my bed..

i should have really continued the series on tbh.

but at least the legacy lives on through onyi and through yourselves :)

now i just challenge myself through other means, like tonights 6man t3 thaurlach attempt, or our under 2hour speed run t3 rift run in 3 weeks xD

I haven't gotten bored yet, though my flagship nudist is level 24. Right now, I'm quite pleased with the difficulty level with no gear. I've never had a huge problem with the rate of damage-dealing. But, like many of the need-a-challenge player set, I found that increased monster level just made the fights *longer*, not more difficult. I just kept pounding away without my morale decreasing. I got so that I tried to aggro larger and larger groups of monsters to fight at the same time... with my blue-line burglar, which seemed pretty much the opposite of the point of that class.

I'm currently experimenting with her keeping one jewelry item and one armor item, which makes quest rewards more interesting. Yeh, as u said, it just makes fights longer, not harder. and half the classes kill things too darn fast for the 0 armour to mean anything like that champ for example, could burn 4k mobs in like 4skills.

Solo'ing instances while gearless though is/would be a fantastic accomplishment for sure so I take my hat off to you folks and your nakedness :)
Just please make sure you have the best of foot-care :) nothing worse than the thorns and sharp stones ;(

OK, two deaths into the troll-in-a-cage instance at Level 10 was just embarrassing. I have too many long inductions.

That instance is tough at L10. Especially with a class (at L10) that has no stealth, crowd control, AOE, heavy armor, or pets/soldiers.

I have my level 50-something mini nekkid on Crick but have been spending most of the time on Anor. But- with that XP bonus on the legendary, it's either put that stone back in my pocket or just run some lower level deeds so maybe a few runs in Moria on Crick would be just the ticket :) Let me know if anything sounds like something we can tackle. (I think it is Sunberry that stripped on Crick but I have alt-amnesia at this point)

You said it. RK's a really limited at level 10. Perseverance is one word.

I technically have a RK on Crickhollow, but it's to play with my kid, and we haven't done much with it. Rumor has it the class gets more formidable later?

Biggest downside of playing on Anor is missing my Burg in Moria. Truth.

Sounds fantastic. Just started a human Warden Ardentia on Anor and will be following your rules. I will add a few of my own:
1. Quest weapons and shields only.
2. No purchasing of consumables except for non-combat food.

Yay! Another nekkid warrior! Generally speaking, we don't purchase much of anything but we do have crafters and share what we can make. If you choose not to use crafted weapons/shields/food it's all good but it is available within the kin. Let us know when you get to the Troll quest and how you do (see earlier "rite of passage" comments in this thread). I think a warden should have fun with that :D We also have a warden in the kin now and he is thinking of fighting with one hand tied behind his back (or something like that :) )

So as you know I took down the troll quest at level 7 last night. I actually want to do this with all classes to see what the difficulty range is (I'm an engineer IRL so that's how I swing). Sorry for not thinking to invite anyone else along.

Anyway, so far Warden is not really that much more difficult. I have to watch my health a bit more and use a bit more range gambits, but that's it. I think the real fun will be on champ, captain, and burg. Hunters also definitely become more "glass-cannony" which will force me to be more cautious as well.

So far it is a blast. I can't wait to try GB as a group with you guys.

I think one thing this experiment clearly shows is how major a factor your character level relative to the target is as to how well you do.

I am a high elf warden, Gildaran, recently started the naked adventuring of Middle-Earth. I would be interested in joining fellow nakers to do stuff together. However, I never encountered any caged trolls and have now achieved lvl 20. Additionally I am stationed in Europe, but I hope we could get something happening, if people are still interested!

Timing for grouping will be challenging, but we're enthusiastic, and there are weekends.

I had to ask how to find the troll-in-a-cage quest. It's out of Needlehole, at the end of a quest chain that starts with looking for a missing cow. No problem that you didn't find it. We've talked about setting some other "official" rites of passage.

Just finished reading through the whole thing, what a fun idea. I've done something similar in the past just individually, either restricting myself to quest rewards or dropped gear, or equipping waaay underlevel basic gear to make the game "hard" again.

Would happily join this fine nekkid initiative for challenge and nostalgia of the good old days when landscape content took grit and guts. I can offer you my services in several stripped-down guises of alts scattered across a broad level range (mostly midlevel range, my xp-disabled main is 89 after 6 years).

Willing to bet there's more Crickhollowers who would be interested but simply don't know about it. Server activity is a bit down since Yule but folks show up regularly to weekly concerts and I've been pleasantly surprised at how many other exp-disabled mid-level alts I've been coming across in landscape adventures.

I would love to get something rolling on Crick. My highest-level char is a lvl 53 Hobbit Burg in Moria. I also have a 40-something Woman Hunter just entering Angmar, a 30something Elf LM in Evendim, and a lvl 17 Beorning doing whatever it is that you do that early (just got to Bree I think)

We could create a thread on the Crickhollow subforum if you think enough people read that for it to grab some attention. I can't really tell with the server-specific forums. I agree that activity has been fine when I've been there in spite of the bleed onto the legendary servers. I ran into another player in Sarnur last night and fought with them for almost an hour.

I was thinking of creating a public chat channel #nudist on Crick for naked adventuring hookups :). If we have enough interest, I would be up for creating a Victory's Secret kin on Crick.

I know Reaboj has characters across the range of advancement on Crick and has talked about meeting up. Possibly Boraxxe too.

Nibble (Warden) and I (Captain) plowed through The Red Pass on fellowship, just the two of us and slightly under-level.

Behold the power of nakedness.

I managed to solo the Red Pass (Fellowship) last night on shivering at level 31. The mobs are kite-able and Radagast heals you, so whenever I was low I just ran around in circles and got healed. The hardest part was in the middle when you have to kill the named mob without Radagast. He is a signature with 2 elites guarding him, but you can kill him fast and then die and you respawn inside the instance. No need to kill the elites.

I have progressed halfway through L31.
Forbearance is begged for the delay in reporting.
I have been busy organizing our kin, Victory's Secret.
And, I am proud to report that after achieving Lifespan rank 7, we are about as organized and focused and productive as the US Congress.

We do have a kinhouse.
It has a tree.
Oh, and some other stuff.

We have been a bit inactive lately. I think mostly because we have all been soloing the heck out of the late L20s and early L30s with various alts, trying to find the "one" that works for us as Naked Adventurers. There is so much to learn.
The big lesson in this experiment is that our preconceived notions about how to play various classes do not necessarily pan out.

We have been looking for that ultimate challenging quest that needs a full group to succeed.

The action is about to pick up.

Not clear what you mean by that. I have been regularly questing (on my burg) orange and yellow mobs/ quests lately including some intended for small fellowships (although 2 man is better for those.) We are, most of us, trying Drukarh (Meluinen Uruk for book) without using inspiration either solo or in a small group while the quest is at or above level. I soloed the Iron Crown Captain in Frith-vaile in Angmar which is a level 42 small fellowship at level 39. Even red mobs are killable but they take forever since you miss an awful lot :D Mostly depends on your class whether you need to stay on level with the mobs or you can seek out the higher levels. It's fun to push the limits :p

You doing that with your naked char? Not bad.

I have done some punching up with my Captain, but I'm pretty happy at white and yellow when naked. It feels like the perfect game balance to me.

But woo, that downtime really broke my stride. Got on today for the first time all week.
