How is Anor holding up these days?

Thinking of returning to play on Anor, how is the server population these days? Also in my recent news I have a new GF which means I will actually have my second lifetime account available for her to play... That leaves me the Question to decide between what would be a good team classes to play, Currently leaning towards Loremaster x2 or the ever coveted duo team of Hunter and Captain. it has been I think since October of 2018 since I played last so any advice or tips would help quite a bit. Thanks!!

Can’t really speak for pop on Anor as just recently rolled a new toon, but it seems more active on the chat channels than Laurelin (which is still pretty active). Someone else can help you better there.

As for duo play, my son and I play a guardian/champion duo. It makes mincemeat of most landscape content. In tougher fights, the fact we don’t have much healing between us makes for a nice challenge, as we have to tactically time our taunt skills right to make sure we shift the aggro off each other if one looks to be in trouble. It’s quite fun :)

Have a Captain in Endgame and some toons around 20.
As many wait for the next update (Mirkwood+Enedwaith)

See still now and then LLF 20/25 Greater Barrows or Fornost.
I join then sometimes with my small one.

As i dislike Hunter in Common, i do not see coveted in Hunters.
Pick a RK they will do the same job, or the other job (heal). it can only do not the mainjob of porting :-) but you get a Rez.

Captains are allways great.

As on the Classic Server, you will find here people that know what the skills and the others.

Neither. Play on a normal server.

Reasons :

1. Don't fund this blatant cash grab/ cash cow milk squeezing attempt by Standing Stone Games. If they had any passion for this, they'd have made it an actual classic server.
2. The population isn't that much higher at lower levels than normal servers. The majority of players are nearing level cap anyways.
3. To reiterate the mechanics are the same from the current game. There is literally nothing different and higher population of any sort won't benefit you since everything can be solo played. In fact you'll only be limiting yourself due to mob or node resource competition.
4. As a result of the above, dungeon content is trivial as well. Think you're going into a dungeon to for a challenge? Nope, current mechanics + talent trees = people soloing raids or two manning raids.
5. You have to be a VIP
6. You already have characters, status and maybe guild on your original server.

I have two toons on Anor, and the server is pretty vibrant.

Okay, I'll give it shot:
1. A company seeing a medium to long term business opportunity is being smart. Cashgrabs are short term ventures.
2. Hard to say but there seem to be a number of lower level characters on Anor. A lot may be alts but I think we also have a number of new or returning players. It is the nature of MMOs that the majority of the population is at the level cap.
3. Maybe by the top one percent of players who are willing to spend thrice the time to make a point or a video. Even they fail occasionally. Group play is alive and well. Easier content at T1 and harder at T2 seems to be quite fair giving everybody a chance to experience the content.
4. I have heard of only a couple of players who have solo'd raid bosses in Moria and they were not only very skilled and geared but also lucky. Ihaven't heard of anybody doing it in BG or OD.
5. And...?
6. Gaining rep with a crafting guild takes a bit of time but it is hardly a massive obstacle.

Why the sour grapes, mack ? The LS is a success, get used to it

From what I have seen, the population has dropped considerably. Back when this server first started & some time after if you pulled up the social panel it would have 900+ entries. Now you are lucky that it lists 300. I just came back recently to see how things were going & was kinda surprised to see this. I guess the new shiny has started to wear off.

I guess it depends how you're defining "medium to long term" in this context, however, I don't see how it can be long term. As I understand it, the server level cap is increasing with expansions which are being released every two or three months. So within a year or so the only unique aspect remaining will be that it's exclusive to VIP.

A certain percent of LS server users are expected to race to level cap with each advance and then go back to playing on the regular servers.

However, the population of players who play there consistently is much higher than projected.

So, yes, they're a success.

Also, LS is a journey, not a destination. I'm not sure what happens when the LSes catch up to present, but this stuff has been done by other MMOs. I think they're expected to go away with free character transfers, be turned into ordinary F2P servers, or start back at the beginning again.

Anor peak averages have gone from
1600 (near launch) to
900 (mid SoA) to
400 (SoA, last month)
800 (moria, first month)
400 (moria, last month)
350 (mirkwood launch)
250 (1 month into mirkwood)

I've not checked Ithil in a couple months but it had tended to be about 60% of Anor. And people aren't just going anonymous more. It getting difficult to find a group for anything anymore and zones, even towns, are dead.

This isn't a success. It's turned into the same de-facto solo experience that the original servers are and we haven't even hit the content dry-spell that is Rohan/Gondor.

On Anor more people go for anonymous, as a known Guardian shows the exploiting kinships owning some stuff in outfitslots that you can get first with Mirkwood or even with Isengard.
The Exploiting groups also use Char titles you get for finish something in areas, that were not open at that point.

You can barter armor pieces for marks and do not need to do the raid. The problem was to get on the other side of the River.
I think that is a big point.


But let it 100 Players.


As the Server starts many thought it would be as in the old days. It was written, that this should not be.
We get the same Softwarebase as the Mainserver and get a Serverwide Levelcap.

For good. I hoped to play the old instances with fellows. That happen. Much was very easy, but i had also fun to play the old stuff.
Morias was great, as i had in mind. Before (LS Server comes out) i did on my Mainserver Moria with 2-3 Toons to prepare a Kinship Project to stay in Moria with turtlestone.
I liked the play the instances and would even stay a bit longer, at least the time we had expected.

I started my Hunterproject on Anor. I works very good.

I finished with my Captain Enedwaith, and that was also nice, as i did not play the area on mainserver.
Only playing the raids.

Now we have BG and OD as raids.
T1 is done and has Farmstatus.
BG T2 has no other loot, so there is less activity for doing that.

OD T2 is for many to hard, and few want to spend a hole game night. So it is seldom done (except Gothereon) for the chance of Baingrist.


We have now a lot of time to do something. Maybe more player start to have fun to work on T2.

Even when not, we get with the next update the great Orthanc Raid.
That will maybe reactivate more player, as that Raid was not scaled.
After Orthanc, i think (not fear) the LS time is over. We know, what will come and then we can also go back to the mainserver again.

An option to travel from LS to Mainserver would be nice with Level 85 release - at least for me.

Gotheron has yet to be completed t2c as far as I know, and only a small set of groups have even attempted it. But I agree with those bottom points about Dunland. Dunland will bring a lot of players back to the LS. And after Orthanc is completed, it'll be game over. Everyone will leave as the Rohans stink. You might find people come back for Osgiliath and Throne, as those are liked a decent amount.

There is nothing to do on Anor currently..T1 and T2 have same loot, and that loot is terrible. The population is insanely low compared to a few months ago.

lol. Barad Guldur and Ost Dunhoth drop their original rewards again. T1 loot is not the same as T2 and teal scaled drops arent as bad as people make them out to be.

Mirkwood got no official announcement. Biggest reason why it’s so quiet. Moria/Angmar had a full fanfare and had 1000+ players. Mirkwood got a ‘maybe’ and a silent whimper of a rollout.

Not an excuse, just a shame.

We're on Anor, and we've seen the huge drop in active players since about three weeks after Mines of Moria content was activated. While our membership has still grown after that time, even if very slowly, our active members online at any one moment has plummeted. We're lucky to see may be 5 characters online at one time these days. That's down from peaks of 20-something at a time, and averages of around 10 during our active times.

And it's all over Anor, from player chat, low number of auctions, to almost no layering of populated areas because not many online anymore. There was a nice spike during the summer festival, then very, very quiet again.

Some of the core of our kinship is still here, and still active sometimes, but a number have stopped playing Anor for weeks at a time.

That may be but the population has dropped considerably. There is a website that monitors the logins & while it might not be 100% accurate it still says something. When the server started & some time after I would check this site often & see over 1000 logins & now you are lucky to see 300 logins at peak. When it comes time to introduce that garbage mounted combat, things are gonna get much worse.

The reason this server failed is that its nothing like it was back in the day.. SSG has failed with all 3 releases.

And regarding the "awesome loot", sorry mate but the loot they brought back in OD is really bad and not scaled right.

I'm pretty sure T1 and T2 have the same loot, in OD I got the "old loot" at T1 which is worse than most scaled gear so yeah I know. Have not seen any gold items drop yet tho, maybe they only drop in T2C(I dunno), but the only good gold item is the sword anyway.

There are so many things wrong with SOM like it was with Moria and Angmar as well, so no surprise the population has dropped.

After wasting 2 hours in SG and LT in T2 and getting the same bad loot as in T1 made me quit these servers.

I also hate how they couldn't scale the raid gear to be really strong(OD is alright but too easy to acquire), and only being able to acquire it as u did back in the day, how hard can it be? (there are T1 and T2 sets, they should be scaled properly for OD)

Ithil is around 200 - 300 logins on a normal weeknight, there is no way Anor has plummeted to that level. It was always way busier than Ithil.

No, thats about accurate. Saturday afternoons Ive seen almost 400 people, but its pretty low.

Well I was in the WoW Classic Bomb, leveled two 60's back during Vanilla gave it a go and realized omg why?!? Again.... Best thing about LOTRO legendary servers are The QOL changes hands down! I cant understand why people want to relive the past in a tortured environment that had and seen its day come and go.

With that being said. I am kind of looking for a partner in LOTRO to hang out with shoot the breeze and either Level by crafting or questing, I have 12+ hours a day. 3 deluxe Gondor homes with two sets of crafting stations. I am not a hard core player though. play slowly cause I am old now, and stuff. Need those Afk's for coffee and cigs!!

Let me know if possible ill be on my character on Anor named Tarris. currently lvl 16 cappy! Thanks in advance!

What QOL changes? Do you mean a more dumbed-down version of the original game?

Turning these MMO's into a browser game is the most stupid thing Blizzard and SSG could have done.

I'm sure classic will be the new Old school Runescape, with 2x more players than the newer versions.

I was looking at the wow Classic servers in comparison it seems now the fad has downed itself a bit. more mid to low population in classic and more high to mid on the retail servers last I checked. so yeah it was fun for a lot of people but truthfully playing since then and now Vanilla WoW was utter garbage when it launched I played on it for two years from its launch coming from a 5 day a week 8+ hour day mandatory guild I raided in EQ with for 5 years, and world of Warcraft ###### dell servers sucked balls. So go on with your elitist attitude of how it was so grand, it wasn't. I really love games these days, you can enjoy them and not be strapped to the chair for over 8 hours raiding. unless that is your thing. anyhow enjoy your miserable attitude on life and gaming.
