Torrahomas. Rare EliteMaster has about 12 adds they agro even if over leveled.
QA came over to talk to me about this bug the other day, but I couldn't figure out what was going on. So we sent it over to Engineering for investigation.
I have experienced this on occasion as well -- this has been going on certainly since the level cap was raised to 65..
I don't know if Forochel mobs are unique in some way or if this is related, but I'll throw this out there as another data point. I've noticed that many grey mobs will aggro elsewhere in the world if an on-level player is around and "triggers" the mob. This will occur even if they're not grouped with you.
For example, stand right next to a "threatening" mob that is grey to you. The mob won't threaten. Next, have an on-level character approach the mob until it threatens, then have that on-level character leave the mob's aggro range. The grey mob will now turn and threaten YOU even though it's grey to you. It will attack if you don't move. I've seen this happen with aggressive mobs (that outright attack) as well after they've reset after chasing an on-level character.
It's like the mob has a heightened awareness state that is triggered when an on-level character enters it's aggro range. This heightened state doesn't immediately reset after the on-level character leaves the mob's aggro range. Maybe this state is somehow getting stuck for certain Forochel mobs?
I haven't tested this on every mob in game, but I have tested on several and it seems consistent. I always thought it was working as intended, or at least working within the abilities/parameters of the tech.
The problem in Forochel that I noticed is that the summoned wolves of the Gauradan Seer's will aggro onto you regardless of level triggering everything else around them.
I just noticed this the other day, actually. I was on my level 64 Burg, doing volume 1 book 13 quests up there. I was just riding my pony to a camp, nobody else in sight at all, and I didn't even realize a guaradan was attacking me until it knocked me off my pony. It couldn't have been more than level 47 or 48. WTH? Pretty sure it was a Guaradan Thief.
I've had this happen in Forochel, and I actually had a level 4 (or so) goblin aggro me in Thorin's Hall, with no other players around. And the creepy thing there? Always the same goblins, and the little arch-way leading into the camp west of Thorin's.
This has happened to me as well over the past few weeks as I went back to older areas to work on the volume one questline, with my level 65 burg.
Forochel - Gauradan attacked me as I rode past on my horse. No other players were around.
Once I was out of combat I rode back to the same mob to try and figure out what was going on - and this time he didn't attack me.
Angmar - Same as above, attacked by an evil man around Bail Rova (I think). Did the same ride back and check and this time he didn't attack me.
Misty Mountains - went afk to get a drink. Came back to find my 65 burg almost dead from one of those level 38 bulls which threaten you.
Good luck to engineering in replicating this - I couldn't replicate it even when it had just happened to me!
I've noticed this as well... both in Forochel and in the High Pass (not just wargs there, gobbies too). This has been going on for quite a while actually.... at least 6 months for me.
Was going to post something about this today. A lvl 51 Guaradan Stalker aggroed me as I was riding south of Kuru-Leiri (sp) yesterday. Glad to see its being looked into.
Yep I bugged it on Arkenstone the other day, just as a GM popped into GLFF to talk about pie. I offered her hot apple.
I can tell you there is this one goblin at Thorin's Hall at the start of the camp toward the caverns. It's the one in the middle and when you agro him, he will agro the other 2 that are near him. He has been this way since before the game released. I've bugged that one several times.
He's only level 6, but man it's just funny now.
Yeah, I was running my 65 champ around the Thorin's Hall newbie-zone doing the quests there to see if by any chance any of them grant dwarf rep (they don't, BTW) and got aggroed by like a level 7 goblin. One-shotting him with an autoattack was amusing, but I do have to wonder what he was thinking.
Don't bug this stuff! This is the funny stuff that makes it uniquely Lotro! "OMG, did that level 7 goblin seriously just attack me?"
I think this "bug" should be put in all of the starter areas. We players complain WAY too much about stupid stuff... Devs should get a chance to "give us something to complain about" once in a while.
Definite grey aggro. Go up that hill in Thorin's Gate to the outside goblin camps. There are two goblins that always aggro on you up there.
Turbine's engineering department should be the first ones up against the wall when the revolution comes.
While they're tracking down oddities, how about the warleader bug, as well as creep NPCs spawning inside a freep-controlled keep (say that 5 times fast)? The latter one was kind of funny the other night actually...
Personally, while I like the IDEA that grey mobs don't attack and certainly take advantage of it, a certain level of uncertainty is actually appreciated. If it was a vote, I'd vote to leave it, or fix it but program certain mobs to ignore it anyways here and there.
Lore justification -> Wargs and goblins and such are dangerous, and generally stupid, so it makes sense that at times they would attack even if completely outmatched. Maybe they like a challenge?
It would be irritating if it happened all the time, but here and there on occasion, I think is not only fine but should be encouraged.
Then the only thing concerning here is that the guy in charge of mob design didn't realize his mobs were aggroing inappropriately. So it does make sense to ./bug it. The issue very possibly could be causing other affects as well, that we don't realize are linked.
And it happened again today - this time a MM warg.
Not limited to Forochel.
I got aggroed while AFK in Katub-zahar by a gray and also while running the Volume 2 Book 9 epilogue that makes you kill a goblin or orc in every zone.
I actually thought it was intentional. In both instances I had stopped moving for a long period of time. So I assumed there was a time component in addition to the level difference. I.e. the longer you stand there, the more mad they get.
If it happens again, I'll be sure to /bug it.
