Dude! Dooood! You were in the 101st? Which Regiment/brigade? Most of my heroes, bosses and brethren were members of the "Chokin' Chickens". Two of my buddies were Rakkasans. Never wore the patch myself, but as legacy goes, it seems to be the best combat division I've ever run across.

Well the screaming chickens are a good bunch of guys they really aren't airborne. They're air mobile. But they're one of the better units in the active duty component.

I am proud to say I am a 1st Cav soldier of the 1st brigade combat team. Now the 1st team really handles our business. Cavalry paves the way.

LOL good to see the old Airborne/Air Mobile debate. To quote a friend "once we hit the ground we are all grunts" Of course if we compare the amout of Airborne ops as opposed to Air Mobile we can see which is more popular in todays battlefield.

Not sure which is more "fun". Knees in the breeze or being forced to ride with some psychotic Blackhawk pilot in moutainous terrain. Miss it

The history of the 101st is very deep. Thats one of the reasons they will never take the Airborne tab from them. Speaking of Rakkasans I had abuddy who was "fortunate" to serve under CSM Purdy when he was with them before he retired.

And btw CSM Purdy was BN CSM when I was there along with (at that time LTC) now Gen. Petreus.

I did time through the 82nd as well so I can debate both sides of the Air Assault vs Airborne. Both have tactical pro's and cons.

Yea life had a huge suck factor as a lower enlisted back then, but it set the pace for the rest of my life. If things get rough I always remember that it could ALWAYS suck more!!!

Remember the chow hall incident??? CSM Purdy scared the living **** outta me (and incidentally the memories give me shivers), but he was an outstanding CSM. Oh btw I was on range 42 when the "Petraeus" incident occured.

Both my Rakkasan buddies served under CSM Purdy. The stories they tell. He is one of those sergeants that I tried to emulate. I take great pride in some of my boys accomplishments which they credit to my example.
