since i don't wanna make a new thread (there's already so many), i see many hunters wear the greater erebor set and not the hytbold set, i for instance keep wearing my hytboldset combination for the bonusses and use the gear from the moors for pvmp, why do i see then still so many hunters with the erebor set, do i miss anything?

Erebor Huntsman makes 5 blue so much better.
2 Erebor Bowmaster improves Burn Hot. I have it for swapping purposes since I don't have Erebor t2 done.
4-GE Bowmaster gives you the chance to instantly use HS. Like, it deals the damage of a crit'd Blood Arrow on a normal hit. That's kinda awesome without the induction getting in the way.

They're better than bonuses like +5% bow critical multiplier, -10% induction, and -cd to SB/BA IMO.
    Also, stats.

    returning hunter

hi everyone, im a returning hunter. i played a lvl 65 hunter on riddermark named odahvwhing. iam new to this since all of the changes have taken place within lotro and as such ill b starting fresh with a new hunter to learn the ropes again so to speak. at the time i stopped playin i was lvl 65 with somewhere around 17k phys mastery and average morale. i would like advice on endgame builds or setups for gear, legacies, traits, etc. my ideal build is a hunter that focuses on overall dps over time while maintaining decent morale. i. e., i dont want to glass cannon it. any advice on building a decent solo hunter would be awesome.

    Try this thread.

Tl;dr: don't bother too much with gear till 85; get Hytbold gear at 85, mix crafted and instance gear, etc.

Don't put your return to campfire skill next to your "build campfire skill" as you will be trying to warm up your fellowship and they'll be saying "where did she go" (facepalms).

As a related note and tip:
Remove all Travel skills from the hotbars.
When needed, press 'K' (default keybinding) and open the Travel Skills section, and double-click from there. It's only about 6 secs more of effort.

Or install the Travel Window plugin and have a nice, tiny little icon you can click on (and move to wherever you want) and have a nice text listing or icon listing of all your travel skills. Select where you want to go and boom skill is executed.

    Pro-tip for new hunters:

    Roll a different class.
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies. And whenever they catch you, they will try to kill you. But first...they must catch you. Be cunning, and full of tricks, and you will never be destroyed...

    Why is that?
I just got back into the game, lvl 48 hunter, mostly soloing to lvl up, and it seems like a fun class so far.

On a comparative basis, Hunter class is miles behind any other class, in terms of survivability and effective utility.

Killing landscape mobs is one thing...and can be loads of fun.

When it's time for challenges (T2, T2c, PvP), Hunter class shortcomings become quite obvious.

Some peeps try to troll and say Hunter is fine...they would say the same about child abuse.

    Wow, hunters are quite talkative.

RK doesn't have df. It doesn't port.
My hunter can switch to light oil quickly when faced with a cargul in Barad dur. woot.

    Actually, I don't know anything about RK's.
    ...
Sig looked hideous so I sent it to its room. It can come back and
show off after it has thought about what it did.

You necroed a thread from 2016... before the broken U19. You know, that times were different then? Hunter was OK then, but RK was too strong. Now Hunter is too strong and tactical runes are a mess, which makes RK too strong like hunters.

Playing my first character as a Hobbit Hunter.

Any tips for new players in 2022?

I've been reviewing resources and links in some of these dated posts, but most of the information leads to broken links or information that has become irrelevant.

Hello there never posted on these forums before, so here goes... I play a level 100 elf hunter (since 2018), on the blue trait. Red trait is the best if you're looking for most dps, but the drawback is that you can't move and shoot things at the same time. Blue trait is great for solo play cause you can move and shoot at the same time. So far I've really enjoyed the blue trait because it lets me try out different combos for longer fight time, and kiting is fun. Yellow trait is really hard to play if you're not part of a fellowship, because it is mainly traps and passives rather than damaging skills like the other trait trees. As you level up though, you'll be able to mix and match trait from different trait trees, but choosing a trait from a different line than your original costs 2 trait points, so keep that in mind! I completely filled my blue line and am working my way through red trait and some yellow...

What i found works for me when initiating fights is to start with the skills that take longest induction time, like swift bow (which btw can be buffed as you level up with legendary items), and then follow up with barrage or penetrating shot (which add some lasting damage on targets). Barrage damage increases the more you use it during the same fight (you can only use it 3(?) Times in a row though before it resets). Using quick shot in between focus-consuming skills helps balance your focus so you're not out of focus in the middle of a fight.

Stances are also important, caus each one has its advantages and disadvantages. For me, the endurance stance worked best because you get a chance at morale regen when using quick shot (which combined with some kiting is amazing in the barrow downs ;D). In the blue line, you also get strength of the earth and onwards skills which help morale and power regen, very handy in a fight.

Cry of the hunter gets less useful moralewise the higher level you get, but it's a great k.o. skill if you're overrun by too many enemies. When the enemies are dazed then you can either use bard arrow on one (which in most cases makes the one hit run away for a while) and fight the rest, or recover morale using onwards, or run away haha.

Follow the path is great (especially in blue line) as it helps you run faster.

Weapons wise, obviously you'll need a bow, but since agility and vitality are most important for you, any weapons that increase those two traits, or add parry chance/reduction in speed/weaken enemies' armour are good - depending on who you're fighting and what your fighting style is.

Oils are really good to have on hand, for times when you might get overrun or when you're raiding a camp by yourself. Fire oil increases damage and causes lasting fire damage on targets. Light oil makes targets miss more often so you are less likely to be hit. Keep in mind though that not all mobs are affected by oils, for some, it's better not to have oils at all. You can get oils from hunter trainers, the auction hall, or you can specialise as a scholar in crafting.

That's all I can think of for now, happy to answer more questions

    Happy hunting!

Edit: this wiki is a good summary of the skills and trait lines: https://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Hunter
